Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the greatest people watching experience in America! Be aware that some of the animals that you will see on this tour can kill you and will not hesitate to rob you of your wallet. We will be looking for the ever present old white man who complains about his oatmeal, the construction worker who cannot stay off his two-way, the foreigner, the old gay couple, and the elusive fat backed whore. You may be surprised to know that the time of day you take this tour of the lowest dregs of society makes a difference on what you will see. If you attempt this tour at night, in the wee hours of the morning and drunk, you may be taking your life into your own hands. A more safe and fun time is on a weekday morning when most people are on their way to a real job. I love taking this tour on a cold Monday morning in December just a few days before Christmas. My patience in eating my meal was rewarded with the appearance of the fat backed whore, and I even witnessed a heated exchange with her alleged PIMP! Moons Over My Hammy indeed. I don't think I should be looked down upon for loving Denny's. They do American breakfast well, and at a cheap price. Make It Your Own Slam with Pancakes, Eggs, Sausage, and Hash Browns for $6? I'm there. Throw in a Hot Cocoa to warm my hands on a December morning and things are right in the world. Let me be the latest in a long line of people to admit that I love Denny's. I know that living in the North Park area its more "cool" to visit another restaurant and disparage the mighty breakfast chain, but I love it. read more

A friend of mine called me yesterday morning, saying she'd just read Japanese author Haruki Murakami's latest novel, "After Dark," a short novel that describes the goings on and adventures of various people in the wild and changing nightlife of Tokyo. The story begins at midnight at a Denny's in a trendy neighborhood. It seemed entirely appropriate to grab my iPod and slide into a booth around midnight and read the entire Murakami novel in one late night sitting. The staff was friendly and courteous as I leafed faster and faster through the novel, which feverishly described nightlife, crazed people, and wandering nighttime visions from Denny's to convenience stores. The mediocre Denny's coffee and warm food kept me company as the pages flew by. Occasionally, however, I had to look up and take in the very motley group of people that populate this Denny's late at night. A lot of LGBT folk, people coming back from clubs, the odd family, someone I'm sure was a prostitute, and a few homeless people streamed in and out, while I read. Eventually, the people got odder and odder, and louder and louder, as I kept reading Murakami's story of people growing increasingly bizarre. Needless to say, over the hubub and craziness, it was quite the way to spend two hours on a Wednesday night. Well worth the read. And the food was okay. read more

Came in with a group of 3 on a Thursday morning. Immediately upon walking in, we were seated and handed menus and were told who our waiter was. Maybe 5 minutes in, we got our orders taken and our drinks, and proceeded to receive our drinks. The waitress overheard that my friend was wondering if they carried hot sauce, and brought it out for us. Service has been great so far. I've been asked maybe 5 min from when I received my coffee if I wanted more. Received the food in good time and it was delicious, I had gotten the Grandslam Sandwich and it was something else. I cant believe we went here. As we were walking in I was verbally assaulting myself for even parking and yet, we still ended up taking a booth by the entryway to the john. What the Hell did I order? Four little burgers with fries and a water. I will say that it wasnt bad but at the point I just needed food in my system. The waitress/ cashier lady had a hard time ringing me up and a manager had to help out. The bill was $11.28 and I had put a grand total of $14.00 and it took 2 people to figure out what the exact tip amount was. Hilarity ensued. In all likelihood, I will not return. read more

WARNING!!! THIS DENNYS AND IT"S FRANCHISE HAS DISHONEST BUSINESS PRACTICES! I used to frequent this Denny's every Saturday morning by placing an order for pick up early in the morning and weekly I would get used to them forgetting something or cooking something wrong... I would order Grits instead of hash browns and get neither... I would play a betting game with my roommate... we would bet on the over under of what they got right and what was missing.... but it was usually not so bad that I would wasted my time to call and complain... or have to drive all the way back. Then on Saturday... complete Disaster... I did not get one completed order when I picked up our breakfast... every single order was incomplete and to top it off they over charged me for food that I did not order and did not receive. I called the manger back Tanya and asked that she refund my card... as I was over charged and did not get anything I ordered... after going through a interrogation like that of a tea party member with the IRS ... she finally found a bag of missing food that was never brought to the counter and never given to us. She first implied it was my fault for not checking but I pointed out that the bags were tied in double knots and we were told the food would be ready in 10 and when we got there we waited another 20. She offered store credit but I did not want store credit I wanted the money she took from be back because I was over charged for food I did not order or receive.. Apparently they have policy that they do not refund even when they over charge and grossly under deliver... they have a policy. This policy was explained to me several times by Tanya the manager and then by Cynthia the Regional manager who also could not help me. I called Fred Nelson the VICE PRESIDENT of the Franchise and never got a response. DO NOT EAT HERE. Really bad service, Really rude waiter. I was innitially going The one at fairmont but decided to go to this location after I called asking if the appetizers were still half off, a really nice guy answered saying "yes! You have 25 more minutes".. Cool. We get there at like 5:50 and asked the guy if the appetizers were still 50% off, he first said the special ended last month, then that it ended an hour ago, I proceed to letting him I know I had called in advance, to what he replied to with a "oh well you had to pay before 6", really? So I was supposed to eat in 20 minutes and leave after the initial phone call? At this point he was done with me and brought the manager over, who honored the 50% off and wrote down the appetizers we wanted... From a distance... And that was about all the service we got.. No one came to ask us what we wanted for our entrees, additional drinks, desert, napkins.. Maybe a fork? Nope.., we must have had some sort of contagious desease I even had to get up and ask for the check... read more

I can't help but love this denny's. When sober, when with pancoast and drunk off jack, It's amazing. I love the cheese sticks no matter what anyone has to say about it. Always great service, great people watching, and with great friends. (Except that one time when Bitter Chris threw a chair. But I wasn't there that night, so it doesn't really count. ) I always enjoy myself at this Denny's. read more

Ok. Dont come here for the food, come for the entertainment! lmao This Dennys is like an Iceberg Slim Pimp novel in real life. I have NEVER seen so many pimps and hos outside of Vegas. Get some coffee and pie at the counter and watch the action go down...priceless!!! read more

I have gone into this sad excuse for a restaurant and have been insulted twice by being ignored at the counter both times. That's right. Walk in, sit down at the counter, and get ignored. I don't give a crap if the place is independently owned, service is absolutely unacceptable. Denny's is the loser because I now take my business to Rudford's for breakfast. read more

Don't go to this Denny they will sit you down And never attend you. We were a party of 4 and sat for at least 15 minutes waiting for someone to come and give us menus or offer us drinks. They never came. I made eye contact, a couple of times with the waiters but nothing. People came in after us and they got helped. Don't go there, they are useless. We had to get up and start leaving for them to try and help us. We left no point in staying. I wish I could give them 0 stars waste of time read more

Umm ok wtf What restaurant sorry what BREAKFAST restaurant doesn't have blueberry pancakes Like really I think when the waiter told me that I was stunned for literally 20 seconds 1st strike Umm why is the food I ordered cold even when no one else is in here but me and my family 2nd strike Lastly the table had a smell of being wiped down with a old dirty cloth, service was horrible, and the floor was dirty Strike 3 4 5 I guess if you come here often then your used to it but I'll sum up this location with one word GROSS read more

This Denny's is so good at not asking and not telling, you'll think it's Clinton's first term. The food? I mean, it's Denny's. It gets the job done, the job being to fill you up with grease or sugar soaked carbohydrates and many re-fills of coffee. I always end up ordering something with the word "slam" in it, and it's quite satisfying as long as I fall asleep before I really start digesting. And I must say that Denny's is a marketing genius, having figured out that their late night clientele is likely to respond impulsively and enthusiastically to glossy pictures (you know you've ordered Moons Over My Hammy for this exact reason). In any case, this place sees so much local color that you'd have to come in bleeding profusely and wailing in tongues to make anyone bat an eye, and as such it provides some of the best people watching on El Cajon Blvd. My roommate and I are pretty sure that we once spent a meal here eavesdropping on a gentleman getting to know a new lady friend he had just made on the corner around 30th street. Whether he was taking her out to eat before, after, or during, I say that's pure class. Speaking of, I once took my beat-my-food-to-bed strategy a little too far and fell asleep in a booth here before actually ordering. My dear friends just went ahead and ate their meal, determined to ignore me completely until the check was paid, and so did our waitress. I woke up to a re-filled cup of coffee. Day after Christmas, and we just moved into the neighborhood. I had to wait for the Cox Cable Guy to come hook up our service. Friends came by to take us out to breakfast (and later be coerced into helping us move a few of the last larger items from the old house). Since I couldn't go "out" - they headed over to Denny's to pick up some breakfast to go. The eggs were cold. The hash browns were barely cooked and slimy. The bacon was half crispy, half chewy. The biscuit was cold and mushy, yet the slab of butter they put with it was melted all over the thing! How that happens, I don't know. Still a sub-par Denny's. But I was tired from moving, sick from moving in the pouring rain, and grateful for friends that helped out and brought me some grub. read more

Military Grand Slammed For Veterans Day Well I arrived for the grand slam breakfast offered 'free' to veterans on11/11....advertised on line without limitations-since I arrived at 12:25 I learned that it was only offered until noon! Others there were also turned down!!! Notice may have been on tables but some of us use internet and then take buses to get there! You should be ashamed! Note we went to yardhouse which provided free appetizers to our party of three( chicken nachos, coconut shrimp and 4 sliders!! Military should be aware of this grand slam of its veterans!!! read more

What the heck happened to Denny's? I remember spending ages studying the menu, trying to pick exactly the right thing. It took forever, because the menu was huge. It had everything, too. Everything and anything. I went for lunch the other day, another solo dining experience at a place Steven won't set foot in. I was thinking chicken strips, fries, milkshake, pie, sandwich, wrap, something, anything! what did i see on the menu? nothing! nothing at all. there were about 4 lunch options, 4 sandwiches, and a bunch of burgers. tons of breakfasts, of course, but for lunch? i couldn't even get soup and a salad, or soup and sandwich. i couldn't even get chicken strips without getting the full dinner platter. i didn't even see strips on the appetizer menu. what is up with that? i ordered chicken noodle soup. it came with some rather untasty garlic bread, and the soup itself was salty and thick in a gelatinous sort of way. i didn't mind the soup so much; it was what i expected it to taste like. it's just that i wish i didn't have to have the soup to begin with. nothing else on the menu was remotely appealing. one star for the menu and food. two stars for the attentive and nice waitress and hostess. i'd give it an overall 1.5 rating, but of course am rounding up. oh, denny's what happened to you? are your glory days over for good? i am afraid so.... read more

This Dennys has got the be the worst one ever! The service is slow and the old Manager lady.. I'm guessing her name is Tanya from what I've seen in previous posts. I was here with my bf and our family eating and I speficially asked for the regular size BLT and not the bacon lovers which I have gotten form other dennys and this one plenty of times. The guy who was taking our order said ok, then as we were placing our other orders I heard him mention he was new. I was like ok well then we can't be too mad at this guy for the mistakes. But when I got the bill it was surley the more expensive BLT which I speficially asked for it to be the regular size BLT and the sandwhich itself was not full of bacon so I thought nothing of it plus I added avacado and there was like a little sliver on each half, that's it. The old lady came over adn asked us how everything was and I told her I had an issue with my bill. Told her I speficially ordered a regular size BLT with avacado and she told me well that's not possible we only have the one sieze. I told her I have been to multiple dennys and this one which I ordered the regular size blt for 6.49 with no problems. She then said I'm sorry but that's not true. I told her yes it is and she refused to change it and I told her well I'll be sure to NEVER eat here agin since you false advertise and todl her the waiter should have told me that when I ORDERED! I don't care if he's new plus that should have been a reason to change the bill in itself. This olf lady need to get off her fat butt and do her job. So many losers who work in hospitlaity shouldn't be there and this jerk is one of them. Haven't you ever heard the CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!! An I wasn't even lying!! This lady needs to be stripped of her job and have some other person run this show because the service is slow the waiters don;'t know the menu and it's super tiny. When we first came she tried to give a half booth and we have 3 teenage boys with us my man, his mother and I.. Are you kidding me then when I said that table doesn't look big enough she gave me a dirty look as if I was an idiot for asking. Unfortunately, I will only provide 1 Star (because it is required to post review), due to feelings and disappointment!! My most recent visit today on father's day, inspired me to remove this past review and mention how this location has totally changed their emphasis on pricing and making money with total disregard to the customers who keep this Dennys in business, especially to me as a customer for over 27 years at this same Dennys location 2445 El Cajon Blvd. San Diego, CA 92104. They totally removed the 55+ (Seniors) Selection on the menu, while we Seniors have limited incomes and spending privileges! They also, abolished the 2,4,6,8 Dollar menu, which again, is most favorable for low income folks, young and old!! I have been told by employees there on several occasions during my visits, these changes are mandated by Dennys Corporate! So, I contacted Dennys Corporate via emails and found their statements not to be fully substantiated! So, to be fair, I informed at least three (3), of the employees today, that know me, that I will frequent the other San Diego Dennys, that I can count on to provide fair pricing that customers look forward to receive!! We stopped at this Denny's late at night after returning from Los Angeles, expecting a quick and reliable meal. Unfortunately, our experience was not what we hoped for. Our party of four was initially seated at a booth clearly designed for two people. When we requested a larger booth, the response from staff felt less than welcoming. We then ordered drinks, including shakes for the children. However, the shakes contained small particles that resembled sesame seeds or oatmeal. This was concerning, and the children refused to drink them. While the manager did remove the shakes from our bill, our appetite was already gone. Another concern was that our server, who was otherwise polite, had visible open wounds on his hands with partially covered bandages. This raised significant food safety and hygiene concerns. So, went there, ordered fries because they sounded good, and fries are always a safe choice when people tell you Denny's make not american people sick. So, got the fries. They tasted good enough for fries and was happy to proceded to go back to the hotel to have a great night sleep in my opinion. Well well well, hell to the no! Last night, 40 of my daughter's theater group descended upon this location unannounced after opening night of their show. The staff could have panicked or turned us away. Instead they welcomed us, pushed tables, got everyone seated, and started taking orders! It was a delicious comfort food! Our waitress was fantastic! She's upbeat and attentive. She checked in on us and refilled our drinks. Overall, a nice meal enjoyed with friends. We enjoyed all the antiques. It's street parking so it might be tough.

Our server, Ivan, greeted us immediately and provided outstanding service despite the crowd. We also noticed another staff member carrying a large tray of dishes, moving quickly in and out of the kitchen. He remained polite and considerate of his coworkers, even while handling what looked like a heavy load. Curious, we asked his name--Anton. His enthusiasm and dedication were clear, and it's easy to see that both he and Ivan have bright futures ahead. Both Ivan and Anton served us with genuine smiles and positive energy, clearly taking pride in their work. We hope the Broken Yolk restaurant recognizes and rewards them for their excellent service. We also had the chance to speak with their manager, Juan, who was friendly and very involved--refilling customers' drinks, checking in at tables, and making sure everyone was satisfied. They are young so I understand to a point but whoever is the manager is obviously failing at training them. You need to greet customers, how hard is that?
