Ok hear me out I know what to expect when I go to Denny's .. It's not a five star restaurant and everyone knows that ; however, this is the worst Denny's I've been to in San Diego. Let me start with saying I came here a couple mornings in a row after the gym. They always have that special ( seasonal) menu well that menu had chicken Apple sausage on it .. I want to add that to my plate but she came out with regular sausage patties .. Now we all know them chicken sausage never comes in patty form. So I told her this is not sausage so she took it back and bring back to me real sausage ( still not chicken ) at this point I'm like w/e for get it. Next day I come I order the same add that chicken sausage to my meal. She brings regular sausage and I repeat first process as last time but finally she did give me a chicken sausage . Now finally I go back and give this place a last chance. Order same thing like ok they should have this right now .. Boy was I wrong this waiter tells me she don't know how to ring it up for me to get the chicken sausage .. If I want that I have to give her my bacon and she will give me that I'm like no I want this bacon and sausage what do you mean you can't ring it up .. I than ask for manager who fixed the problem .. However there was a broccoli in my scramble eggs and potato .. So disappointed I never even mention nothing else to them .. The staff at this location are extremely friendly and their customer service is amazing. The food arrived at the the table at the same time, our group got to enjoy our food together. Honestly there are no words to actually express how satisfied I am with the staff here. Everyone we encountered especially our server Susan G. She was AWESOME. I came to this Denny's for the first time a few months ago after a night out with some friends and this is no ordinary Denny's. Before I explain what my friends and I encountered, I'm assuming that on nights after seven pm and especially on Friday and Saturday nights are when it gets interesting. Ok, I changed my mined, I'm going to keep this short. In the span of about an hour, we seen and interacted with about three homeless people at the bar, two black trany's at the bar, three forty-year old prostitutes and about 95% of the people who were dinning were gay or bi. I love Denny's, what can I say. If you read my previous reviews you will remember we had such a terrible experience in Niagara Falls at the local Denny's up there but you can not blame my high expectations when this Denny's around the corner does such a great job. As usual I got the Belgium Waffle slam. It arrived within 10 minutes of placing the order hot and slightly crispy with no hint of stale to it. The butter melted perfectly and the eggs and sausage links were cooked well too. As a note there are various times during the day if you want to get in and out so keep that in mind. Night times can be a little crazy because of patrons who have imbibed and early mornings during the weekend are busy too. If you don't mind the counter its the easiest and fastest way to get in and out. Servers at this location also understand how to earn their tips and are constantly checking on your beverages and your general well being while you eat. So if you need a good breakfast without too much hassle and easy to understand menu, this is it. read more

I've been here quit a few times with my family and have yet to be disappointed. Every time we come, the food is great and so is the service. No, it's not a fancy restaurant, but you know what you're doing when you're going to Denny's. They're breakfast is great and I like their burgers too! My group of friends and I pull up to the parking lot and we're playing our music obnoxiously loud. Pretty sure the windows shook the restaurant. Forgive me, as I was so excited to fill my belly to end a Saturday night. To be frank, only order breakfast. I've never been impressed or liked any lunch/dinner option at any dennys. Came here for breakfast the waiter was great, very friendly and attentive . The area around the Denny's is very sketchy especially early in the morning hours. Food was good a little to heavy on the cheese in the ham & cheese omelette, but it was good. Denny's... A staple in late night breakfasts. This Denny's is a smaller one so if they are full you will be waiting. I enjoyed my omelet and my date had the all you can eat pancakes. Service was really good and our food came out fast. They were very good about keeping my coffee cup full. I think this is probably one of the best Denny's I have ever been too. Waitress asked how many then walked behind counter and did not come back! Another waitress asked how many and then seated us. Two grandkids grabbed the kids menus and looked for crayons. None given. After several minutes I had to ask waitress for crayons or pencils.....she returned minutes later w one crayon. She asked if we needed another one! Yes, the other grandchild would want a crayon. I eat at this Denny's frequently since it is just down the street from my place and I've always found the service to be exceptional and the food to be hot and tasty. I was craving burger so I went there on Friday 9/28/18 and ordered the bourbon/bacon burger and fries. The waitress was awesome, (wish I could remember her name so I could give her props) and the burger was delicious. Why 3 stars? I went to the restroom when I was finished and while washing my hands one of the cooks came in, did his business and walked out without washing his hands. GROSS!! This is a pretty small Denny's and it's usually crowded but the service is always great here... for the breakfast crowd. Service isn't always on point at night, but they do have to deal with some pretty obnoxious people that are just leaving the bars. Even with the crazies that can wander into this location I prefer this Denny's over many others. People watching is fun, the food is delivered fast, service is courteous and better than what you might expect in an El Cajon Blvd Denny's. read more

Great deals... just like all the denny's. As people mentioned -- the late night people watching is great here. I've overheard convos by crazy people, drunk people and touring rap artists. The staff is usually a mess, but they almost always have a manager there to save the day and pick up the slack. Some things to look out for is that the menu doesn't always include the items listed (oatmeal is suppose to come with fruit, soup mealis suppose to come with bread), the waitstaff often makes crappy drinks (Smoothies, milkshakes, etc) and the kitchen often makes mistakes. read more

I really would normally skip reviewing a Dennys, but this one sucked so bad I felt I should register my disgust to others. Let me start by saying I only ended up here because my regular breakfast spot was packed because of a chargers game. On a last minute whim we ended up at this fine establishment. We brought 5 people with us but for some reason they smashed us back into the smallest cramped corner they could find. The wait staff consisted of one 90 year old woman who could barely see and a younger inattentive waitress. We waited 30 minutes for our food, all the while the waitress never returned to refill coffees or any other beverages. The food was generic and very small portions. We all ordered off the 2, 4, 6, menu, but regardless we all felt over charged. I'm not sure which was worse, the hookers and half dead homeless people sleeping out front of this place, or the meal I had. I guess I'll flip a coin. If I could give it zero stars I would. My wife and I ate lunch here recently. She ordered the Create-your-own-slam, and I the Create-your-own-skillet. We're the DIY type, apparently. Aside from a small hair (perhaps eyebrow?) my wife discovered in her turkey bacon and the noticeable soap/cleaning solution taste in the fountain soda, this visit to Denny's was unextrodinary. The skillet I ordered raised several questions for me, not least of which being, why would someone want a skillet in the first place? I was not sure what I was going to get before I ordered it, but I'll describe what I received. I ordered by way of a paper checklist and golf pencil at my table. I prefer this method (similar to Whichwich), as it leaves less room for error. I selected chicken fried steak as my protein, scrambled eggs, hash browns, grilled onions, and country gravy. When it came out, everything was pretty much as you'd expect it, however it was extremely hot (temperature). This was a result of the entire meal being on a fajita style skillet. This consists of a blazing hot metal skillet in a non-metal base. The hash browns, onions, and eggs were somewhat mixed underneath the steak, with the gravy on top. I couldn't get anywhere near it for a good 10 minutes, then burned my mouth anyway. Thanks to the near-molton iron skillet, the food never cooled. I am confident that I could have sat there for over an hour without touching my food, and it would still be warm. If that is the purpose of the skillet gimmick, then bravo - goal achieved. Another benefit to the skillet was that if there were any hairs (eyebrows or otherwise) in my food, the surface-of-the-sun-like skillet would have burned it away, sterilizing everything in the process. Additionally, by the time I could eat it, several of the ingredients had cooked on the skillet. That resulted in blackened hash browns, rubbery eggs, and baked gravy (?). I understand this with fajitas, as the ingredients actually cook together in the skillet, but nothing was cooked in the skillet in which my meal was served. This was basically a breakfast scramble on a small, hot grill. We were there for 45 minutes and the plate was still too hot to touch when we left. Why is this an option? Can someone out there tell me the purpose of this? read more

Wow, it seems that most people see whores and homeless people here. I actually went on a regular Saturday morning and had a wonderful meal. Dennys' breakfast menu keeps getting better and better. The service was great and so was the food. Our waiter had a douche bag skip out on their meal, which sucked for him. But he was still very pleasant and professional about the situation. Good for him. I would've been all bent out of shape. I would recommend this place (on a Saturday morning). read more

I am not from around the area, but I have come here a few different times. Never can I say I had a great experience. But the last time I came was awful. My friends and I came here around midnight. Our waitress looked annoyed at everything we ordered, and never once smiled or showed us any courtesy. My friends ordered milkshakes which took about 20 minutes to make, and once they were done, the lady dropped them and had to make them again. I actually just felt bad for her; she was not the same lady as our waitress. Our food took ages to come out, and the waitress never refilled my empty water glass. Then when we left, the cashier came running out to get us to come back because he had charged us for the wrong table. So yeah, not a fan of this Denny's. read more

Me and my friends come here often after a night out at live wire or any bar in general. I have to say the service has always been great at this location. The restaurant is always clean & food comes out looking good & tasting good. The only problem I have with most Denny's I have gone to is the time in between appetizers and lunch/dinner. Yesterday we got our appetizers & our food came with it. I would like to enjoy my appetizers before my main meal. Other than that one situation, it's always good here. read more

If I could give zero stars I would I waited an hour to get everything we ordered cold. I ordered a burger with fries all cold. My wife orders a skillet came out cold. We eat here once and a while when I don't feel like cooking and it's a few blocks from our place. The food isn't bad but it's always FREEZING inside. Why is the thermostat set so low? I have to make sure everyone has a sweatshirt/jacket or else we freeze our asses off eating. I swear it gets colder each time we go. I called and placed an order over the phone. I asked the lady a question about the thots after I said I didn't want the thots she just clicked on me and didn't let me finish talking. I called back right away and they didn't answer. Then after the third time calling a younger girl answered and I told her what happened she acted like she had no idea what happened when I told her they clicked on me. She was helpful. The food was ok. Except the hash brown was cold by the time I got home. They didn't have my food ready when I got to the location, so my bf had to wait for the soup to be ready.
