Every city needs a little place like this. Handmade food, good price and nice people behind the counter. You are lucky to have this, it is a rare thing nowadays. We travel all 5 time zones of North America, 250-300 random city's every single year. I'm finding only 10-15% of cities have any decent, lasting local food. I had a garden salad and it was SO GOOD, especially with a scoop of buffalo chicken salad on it. The salads are HUGE and it was more than enough for two portions. I got dinner out of it afterwards. The white bean soup was also amazing. read more

My first New Bedford review. . . new to working in this area. My colleagues all recommended this spot for lunch, and it was really good. I actually hate lentils, but I loved the lentil and vegetable soup -- it was curry flavored, and it was delicious. I also ordered the caprese salad -- also really delicious. In addition to the tomato and mozz slices, they had like a tomato salsa in there -- it brought it all together. And it came with a huge hunk of bread. So filling because I work late, and I need a meal that will span lunch and dinner. Definitely will return. read more

Destination Soups, I don't even know what to say. The food is fresh, delicious, and so freakin affordable. The Portucheese grilled cheese is better than any linguica cheese roll from any breakfast place in the area. The grilled, pulled chicken in wraps, salads and sandwiches is so juicy and flavorful. The Chicken Vegetable soup is rich and hearty, almost like a pot pie filling. The Clam Chowder is creamy, with just the right amount of clams, potatoes and herbs. The salads always look deliciously huge, although I never order them because I can't stop eating the awesome grilled cheeses and soup - but the salads do seem to be popular from what I've observed. A good tip: call ahead at lunch time, because this place has lines out the door for good reason. Oh, also it's byob so bring a bottle of wine and some friends for a delicious dinner on a Friday or Saturday night, the vibe is really relaxed at night there. read more

Destination Soups is a treasure in Downtown NB. With Daily specials ever changing and new items being added from time to time, its a great option for groups of fussy eaters. (unless you dislike Dill, they use it in a lot of their soups). I am partial to the Wunderkind Salad as well as the Smoked Salmon Sandwich. Both are excellent. (The Wunderkind Salad has Quinoa on it, and is my go too when I'm trying to be more careful of what I eat). They also have the BEST (and I mean the Best) grilled Cheese sandwiches ever. They're open for dinner a couple nights a week now, and I haven't made it in, but seems like they have some delicious specials. Its next to Wings Court, and they have some outdoor seating. Its a great stop for lunch as they are generally quick with the food, and can get you in and out if you have to get back to the office. My only complaint has ever been that they put cilantro in their "cool as a cucumber" salad. yick. read more

This is my GO-TO lunch place. The staff is sweet and kind, super welcoming. The grilled chicken on sour dough is to die for. They have this sweet system set up where you can purchase extra meals for the less fortunate/homeless -- and they write it on a post-it and then it goes on a big board -- then someone in need can come in, pick what they want from whats been paid for already -- and get a free delcious meal. Vegan review. Grabbed dinner here with my friend and his family. The guy who took our order seemed to be either put off by kids or by talking to people in general, it was hard to tell. The guy who made out sandwiches was awesome and super nice. I ordered "the veggie" with no cheese. It was just ok, it kind of lacked flavor. Everyone loved their sandwiches though. I wanted to like my sandwich but it just seemed uninspired, like I could make it at home. If they up their vegan game, I will change my review to 4 stars. read more

This place is amazing since the move from down the street. The new cafe features some more sandwich options then before but still delivering the amazing grilled cheeses as before. Be sure to check the website since they keep their soups on a weekly schedule and only offer some of their featured recipes on certain days. The southwestern Chicken wrap is very good. I had to add some hot sauce to it since the chipotle sauce was lacking in flavor but the ingredients were fresh and tasty. I also got the tomato basil soup. It tasted very watery and the basil was a little over powering. This soup in theory is hard to perfect, and I have had it before (the old location) and it was fine. I am sure the soup will be back to it's former glory from down the street. I did enjoy the bread bowl and of course the Cape Cod chips that came with my sandwich. This will most likely be a great place to dine in during the cold winter months as well as place to pick up a nice sandwich for the beach! read more

I absolutely love this place! The Rick Cheese is probably the best sandwich I've ever had. With crisp bacon, slightly sweet apples, tangy balsamic and melty cheese... I think about it all the time. This is my new favorite lunch spot. I always get a cup of soup while I'm there and it is always fresh, hot and delicious. The ingredients are always fresh and the soup varieties consistently have great depth of flavor. I always come here when I'm looking for a warm healthy meal that is filling but offer low fat, high fiber, nutritious options. The carrot ginger, sweet potato chipotle, and lentil soups are fantastic. And they do a chickpea, peanut curry soup that is to die for. The tuna salad is also my favorite because they use just a touch of mayo and add lemon juice giving a bright, fresh flavor. Also try the hummus plate for a no-guilt, yummy lunch or snack. If you are feeling a little more decadent, try one of the many grilled cheese sandwiches like the Green Monster with fresh spinach and cheddar; the Buffalo with blue cheese, hot sauce and chicken; or the Portucheese stuffed with cheddar and provolone, ground chourico, and sautéed peppers and onions. Come early for lunch because the small place fills up fast. Unfortunately, my office is 2 blocks outside the delivery area. But it's better that I walk down and take a break at lunchtime anyway. I had a super long Wednesday class at BCC and one day the craving for Mac and cheese hit me so hard during lecture I searched menus from every restaurant in the vicinity and some how couldn't find anywhere that had it. I settled on DS because they were close by with great reviews and lo and behold I walk in and see that not only do they have home made Mac and cheese on the menu, it was $1 off on Wednesdays, AND it was soooo good.
