Stumbled upon this cute Donut shop in Little Italy & wanted to try one of their donuts! I ordered the Matcha Blueberry and grabbed a Seasonal Latte Iced with Oatmilk (I forgot the name.. but definitely It had a hint of an orange flavor). The latte had great taste & still presented itself nicely as a coffee. The donut on the other hand, lacked a bit with the blueberry and matcha flavor sadly. The donut had a nice consistency and bite, so I would definitely love to give it another try with a different flavor.
Been coming to this place for years and somehow just now writing this! Shame on me! I love it because it's limited. Not the normal overabundance in life now. Artisan stuff that ya feel fortunate to be early enough to get. Every flavor combo is super smart and despite my skepticism to some they always go together amazingly. The staff are always so nice...and, they're BUSY. The busy part never gets in the way of that niceness. So, I haven't been here since they put tables out front. I sat out there...feels almost like real city living. Nice touch. The upstairs is really nice too. Song lyrics going up the stairs that fill perfectly!
Relaxed window service donut shop on Kettner in Little Italy. The donut we had was solid, honestly I liked the donut more than the brown butter topping, however that's just personal preference due to the limited options they had left when I showed up. Would definitely try again!
Amazingly soft and perfectly sweet. GET THERE EARLY, because before I knew it the line got long. I got the Mexican Mocha with three donuts: chocolate glaze, old fashion chocolate glaze and vanilla bean. They WILL see me order again since I ate my husbands donut "on accident"
This place has always been on my list of go to's and scrolling past the reviews, I saw they received a lot of negativity from their service and one person mentioned krispy kream tops them.... Krispy kream is for you if you like artificial tasting donuts, but Devil's Dozen tastes incredibly FRESH and DELICIOUS! As I was ordering, I can physically see someone preparing the dough for the donuts. Customer service was fine, but I'm here to order donuts and then go upstairs to their incredible patio to eat them. Upstairs would be a fantastic study spot too, I'm not sure if they have wifi but hotspot will do the trick. Devil's dozen and the store next door, kettner exchange is owned by the same person, although I've never been to exchange. This place would easily be five stars if parking wasn't a nightmare, if I'm not able to find something right away, I'd skip it rather than driving around. Donuts: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Parking: 3/5
I came here with the lady for a pop up event with free coffee and donuts on a Saturday morning a few months back. We had planned to go the little Italy mercato after a quick stop. So we checked in at the window with the QR code and were sent upstairs where there music was bumping. Upstairs they had a DJ and even a Aperol spritz cart girl! Coffee was good and so were the donuts! I will definitely come back for these donuts. Many people were just ordering at the window to take them to go. Unaware of the event it appeared. There was a younger, beautiful crowd here but, to be honest at this stage of my life I'm totally unfazed.. I enjoyed the gorgeous rooftop view along with the other views, even if I did get elbowed by the wife.. Music was a house type electro-pop style. It was for the CRSSD spring event I believe. So the lady didn't want another coffee, but she did want an Aperol spritz. Suddenly the elbowing stopped, and we left happy.
We wanted to try this donut place after seeing it on youtube and we were close by so we stopped by. Well it is downtown, so parking is a huge factor but luckily it was early and we were able to park in a mini parking lot in the back that they share with Kettner exchange restaurant after we had already went around the blocks once already. Its a cute little small window to order and they have an upstairs that had a dj playing music with a sitting area. They actually have a lot of sitting area too. Menu is basic and donuts are very different and unique and creative. I went ahead and got a chocolate old fashioned and my husband a chocolate glaze, we didn't go fancy on it just traditional. First bite the chocolate just tastes different but the breading is good! Maybe we are use to Yumyum donuts that this wasn't as tasteful to us. Now service was fantastic! Everyone very nice from ordering to just showing me where the bathroom was and making sure to tell us there is a DJ upstairs. I don't think we would be back but worth a try once especially if you want to try a fancy creative unique donut.
This place has been on my list for quite some time and I'm happy that I finally got to try it! A 2 story building where the bottom is the order window and donut making. The top floor has seating for plenty of people with booths, tables, and glass walls/fencing for a view The donuts themselves are incredibly soft and have a great mouth-feel. The maple donut has the slightest hint of maple which is a stark, and welcome, contrast to what most shops do. Plain glaze is just perfect in texture and flavor. Strawberry lemonade was mostly citrus and the devil's chocolate left a lot to be desired in terms of chocolate flavor. Coffee is good and served hot! Definitely be careful Overall I had a pleasant time, the donuts are good and I would go back!
Unfortunately these were some of the not so best donuts I've had. They were chewy as it felt like I was chewing on mochi. Not sure if I'm coming back for more but it was worth a try. It's a tiny spot in the outskirts of Little Italy. I only came here because of TooGoodToGo and paid $10 for 6 donuts (it said it was worth $30 so I'm assuming $5 a donut). Can't say they're good just based on first bite but I was hungry and ate the entire donut and gave the rest to my coworkers. I thought you really couldn't go wrong with donuts but I guess you can. Perhaps it wasn't a good batch, who knows.
San Diego has no shortage of great donut spots. I have never been able to get my hands on Devil's Dozen Donuts because they usually sell out before I get to Little Italy. But lately, we've been frequenting the Little Italy Farmer's Market at opening, so it was finally time to give it a try. We arrived at 8:25am and there was a short line. It moved slowly, but gave some time to be able to check out the selection. They have a smattering of classics along with unique flavors including some filled ones. We were boring and went with an old fashion and a Devil's vanilla. Both donuts were good, but Little Italy is always a trek, so I don't think I'd go out of my way to get them. Service was very friendly though and I appreciated that they clearly knew their regulars.
Small donut area. Service was quick. Not too busy with people. They have a variety of delicious donuts. Lemon Poppy was my favorite. Fresh coffee as well to go along with the donuts.
Was in town for comic con and as a huge donut fan I was really excited to try this place as I passed it on the way back from the gym Thursday morning. So Friday I went right after class and got there at 6:58am right before they "open" at 7am per their sign. Emphasis on "open". Pros: Seems to be very popular, the line was 9 deep when I ordered. The donuts are aesthetically pleasing and good variety. The Homer donut was tasty and always fun as a Simpsons fan to see. Cons: Ok, here we go. As I said I got there 6:58am. 7am came and passed. I hear voices but the window shade is still down. At 7:05am I kinda just say politely through the shade "hello?" since I would like to order and get back to my hotel since I have things to do it being comic con. I got a terse "we're not open yet". So I stood there and people started showing up. 7:08am the shade goes up and I'm first in line and the employee says "It'll be another couple minutes guys". So I stood there just staring at the display of donuts to kill time as she repeatedly clicked on the screen. 7:10am I'm just kind of lost in my own thoughts as I'm waiting and I look and the employee is just staring at me. I asked "Can i order now?" and she gave me a sarcastic response of yes. She never indicated she was ready. She didn't give a polite "Thanks for the wait, I can take your order now". Nothing. She gave off the vibe that she was just annoyed at me now. I ordered my two donuts - vanilla bean and Homer. She packaged it and handed it to me. No last chance to comment on the wait. No shade of politeness. Nothing. I can understand not being ready at opening but when there are people waiting, you can't just ignore it and not acknowledge that people waited. That's poor customer service and that ruins everything. The donuts were fine - albeit expensive - but the experience is all I'm taking from this.
Came in Saturday at about 11 so most of the inventory was sold out but we were able to snag a devils vanilla It was pretty good but nothing crazy, they have other flavors i would love to try and maybe even order ahead since the wait was pretty extensive
During this Covid pandemic, I've been eating more things that make me happy, Ice cream, alcohol, chips, ect. So today i stopped by and got a dozen donuts from my favorite donut shop. Yes Devils Dozen is still open! When i pulled up i though it was hilarious that one of the devils on the wall was wearing gloves and a mask! LOL, thats just the kind of humor that this establishment has! I forget all the flavors i had i think i got a few vanilla, dark chocolate, old fashioned, coconut chai and pistachio horchata? Something like that. They were all outstanding! They were a hit at the office, i know because they were gone in less than hours, usually if someone brings in a dozen, there are still leftovers after lunch. I really liked the old fashioned, the vanilla and the one with the pistachio, but most of all its just the consistency and density of the donuts, they are light but doughy. The dark chocolate was too dark for me. That sounds weird, i know, but you have to be a real dark chocolate lover to like this one, i guess i prefer milk chocolate. Overall still my favorite donut shop in SD or anywhere, i like their whimsical design, its so fitting because they are Devilishly good! I also found out that they are owned by the group that runs Kettner Exchange, The Grass Skirt, Good Time Poke shop, Firehouse, Vin De Syrah, and The Waverly. So Devils Dozen makes my favorite donuts, Good time Poke makes my favorite poke.... Guess i need to try these other restaurants! One little hiccup, my friend bought me a gift card because they knew it was my favorite donut shop, somehow it didn't register. So i had to pay out of pocket. The employee took a pic and said they would show it to the manager when they got in, and that other people have had problems recently too.. I hope it works next time, maybe they should keep a written record or after someone purchases it, swipe it to see if it works and if theres cash on it. Or maybe the cards just demagnetize IDK.. It was a beautiful Sunday morning for donuts! My husband and I woke up early from the time change and thought we'd finally try this place out. We walked by at 7:40 expecting a line, but it was empty so we grabbed a coffee down the street. Came back five minutes to 8 and were the first ones in line. A few people quickly built up behind us before the doors opened. We ordered an assortment to try out: Butter Pecan, Chocolate Glaze, Vanilla Glaze, Chocolate old fashioned, Homer, Apple Cider Glaze and some salted caramel donut holes. Butter Pecan was the star of the show for me. I've never had a donut like it. The yeast on the donut was so tall that I couldn't gracefully bite into it and the glaze was so fresh that it hadn't fully hardened yet, so had to savagely rip this donut apart to actually eat it. It was not pretty, but maybe my husband was turned on by it. They do a really great job on their yeast raised donuts. I can understand why they sell out. I had a couple bites of the old fashioned. It has that perfect crunch you want with the outside of an old fashioned. My only wish is that the cake had more nutmeg spice to it. The chocolate glaze on the outside had a really nice richness to it. Apple cider glaze donut wasn't my favorite, but it was fun for the season. We sat upstairs where you get an incredible view of the bay. The seating is really well designed and there are lush plants everywhere. The trash cans were full upstairs and we couldn't find napkins anywhere so it makes me think they weren't prepared to open this morning, but those are my only critiques. Overall a fun and upscale twist on the classic donut shop. read more

Capital D for Deliciousness! As you take the first bite and this is my first time tasting a DD and as you sink your mouth into the deep fried dough, it's like a fluffy pillow of yumminess. It's so good that you don't feel guilty because I tasted the quality of the dough and the sugar. One doesn't taste the oil. There are many donuts and often leaves a film of old oil in your tongue. Not these donuts. Great anytime of the day and I ate mine as dessert after dinner with tea. What a great find. Worth paying a little extra money. Guiltless pleasure. read more
I'm rarely in Little Italy before this place sells out of its daily quota of donuts. Since we had just finished eating breakfast across the street, it was the perfect opportunity to make a visit. As a bonus, the curbside parking was free because it was so early in the morning, and the meters were not awake yet. My friend mentioned that you can park in the spaces behind the building which are normally reserved for valet use at Kettner Exchange in the evening hours. They have a pretty simple set up with a service window to order donuts and/or coffee, tea if you don't want to go inside and sit on the upstairs deck. There were about seven different varieties of donuts and a few types of donut holes for sale. Pricing for the basics was quite reasonable (Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Glazed - $2 each; Old Fashioned - $3). I picked two of their fancier styles, Caramel Crunch ($3) and Guava Cream Cheese ($3.50). I would have to say the quality of the dough was one of the best in town. I don't know if it's the kind of yeast they use, but the donuts were so light and flavorful. My one nitpick is that I wish they offered a larger selection, maybe at least a dozen choices to match the word 'dozen' in their business name. Other than that, I gave this place a 4.5 star rating for quality and price. read more

= L O C A T I O N = What a clever concept for a donut shop! I love the occult-y theming and visuals. This is also undeniably the best view I've had while eating donuts...you can see all the way until the ocean from their cute balcony. The balcony is adorned with macabre...I mean, macramé...and there are enough plants up there to make any plant parent jealous. = S E R V I C E = There is a single window downstairs to take orders. We were lucky that it wasn't busy at all. The person taking my order was pleasant. = D O N U T S = The donuts are hit or miss. One of the ones we got had glaze that was far too sweet, and the dough was oily. Devil's Dozen had mastered the donut craft. Don't be deterred by the long line and even longer wait times, it's definitely worth it for that bite. They could definitely increase efficiency as the person ringing up orders is also preparing the donuts and coffee (if someone in front of you orders a coffee, add a few minutes to that wait time) but we still went way too many times during our time in Little Italy. I've tried a variety of their special flavors but ultimately, it doesn't get any better than their vanilla bean glazed (except for the vanilla glazed donut holes). They do have an upstairs area that is occasionally open for eating and has a nice view of the bay. read more

Honestly, it's a must. Every time I get a little donut craving, I drive over here because 1. The donuts leave me speechless (literally clouds of heaven. They fluff back up after a bite). 2. The drinks always hit the spot (matcha and coffee, both amazing. Get the house made cinnamon syrup). 3. THE SERVICE. Everyone is so kind and I honestly always leave with a little smile on my face. Definitely deserve more than 3.5 stars. I found this place on accident and I refuse to go anywhere else. read more

What is this sorcery??!! These donuts are absolutely insane! The flavors are incredibly unique, & specialty donuts vary daily. Examples of flavors include Berry Creamsicle*, Mango Orange*, Strawberry Matcha*, Salted Caramel Latte*, Brown Butter, Vanilla Bean, Devil's Chocolate, Devil's Vanilla, & more! Love this gem!! Their aesthetic is really unique and is different than any other donut shop I've been to. Every time I come, they always have really good flavors on display and their menu isn't overwhelming. Their dough is suuuuper fluffy! If you have the time, enjoy your donuts and coffee upstairs in their really cute and very open seating area. I wouldn't recommend studying here because there are a lot of loud noise from planes passing by and there's no public restroom. Definitely visit this spot!! read more
During the covid19 pandemic we have tried to explore all the open donut shops in San Diego. This one is a favorite of ours. Located in little Italy Devils dozen is just a storefront offering walk up service. During normal times this place sells out on a regular basis and you have to get there before the donuts are gone. Donuts re high quality. Like the sugar coated donut holes. Also the vanilla bean is one of the best I've had in san diego. The fruit donuts are okay (blueberry is my favorite). The chocolate donuts are nice as well. The tres leche is just weird. Coffee here is okay as well. Not the best I've had, but better than starbucks. Overall, a nice place for donuts when you have a craving for the basics. read more

I've been coming here for a year now and their donuts do not disappoint! The best part is their cute rooftop above the donut shop that is so peaceful in the mornings. The lines can get super long on weekends but if you can swing by on a weekday you'll be in and out pretty quickly. read more

Fabulous Doughnuts! The Amazing Kat helped me decide on my order by recommending this delicious Strawberry Chocolate Whipped Cream Doughnut....it was Devine!! 10/10 would definitely go back, it is a small space (you order at a little window). Visited Devil's Dozen on a Sunday morning and enjoyed it. The shop opens at 8am on Sundays and we arrived about 15 minutes early, joining a line of about 5 other groups ahead of us. They only had one person working the register/boxing the donuts/making the drinks, so you have to be prepared to wait. I'm not the most patient, so it was admittedly a struggle. I would say it was about 40 minutes total from the time we got in line to the time was walked away with our donuts. A really long line had accumulated behind us in that time. They had a lot of fun options to choose from and everything looked SO good in the window display. I'm typically a maple/caramel girl so I went with a browned butter donut (yum) and snagged some of the lemon poppyseeds because they were gorgeous. All in all I would say yummy donuts and so beautiful but I don't know if I'd wait like 40mins again for them. If you're having a slow moving morning and have som time on your hands, go for it! Great donut spot! They have classic old fashioned donuts and classic regular donuts (chocolate, maple, glaze etc.). Then they have the creative ones! Today they had caramel apple, tres leches and lemon poppyseed just to name a few. One tip is to get there early and with a cushion on whatever time you need for where you're going after. The line is long and slow. There was one person working and she was doing great, but when someone ahead of you orders 6 different kinds of lattes and two dozen donuts, it takes a while for one person to fulfill that order. read more

The dough was pretty light and fluffy but unfortunately a bit oily. The icing was incredibly sweet and didn't taste like Nutella. I arrived just past 7 am on a Tuesday and more than half of their selection was already gone. I got a chocolate old fashion and some cinnamon sugar doughnut holes. Everything was delicious and Ghoul D's customer service was perfection. They were kind, responsive and quick. This was a nice little experience while visiting San Diego. read more
Stopped off here for a quick pick me up. Ordered... Chai = Meh. A bit on the weak side and not enough of the wonderful chai spices. Mexican chocolate latte = Was better than the chai but could have used a little heat to balance the chocolate. Nutella donut = Very good. Light fluffy and not to sweet. I couldn't help myself but I took a bite of the gluten free tangerine donut first. So so good! They asked to box it separately but I'm not allergic and just wanted to try it. The maple bacon is delicious as well! I'm saving the other two for later. I also got an iced lavender lemon tyme oat milk latte and it did not disappoint! Perfectly sweet but not too sweet, the herbs not overpowering the coffee and a great compliment to the donuts. They have a cute little seating area up top with a view of the wafer front in the distance. The cashier was so kind and sweet. It's always a wait but always worth it! I always crave it on weekdays and it's becoming my favorite weekend treat. A must try! read more

We stopped in to try something while at the nearby Farmer's Market. It is just a window where you order right off the street. Ordered the Samoa donut - very light and fluffy and my girlfriend enjoyed it. At $3.50 it's a bit pricey but they had a nice selection and I'd try other kinds in the future just didn't think it compared to other spots I've had similar donuts for less. read more

Definitely not the best donuts I've ever had, but they are really good quality. I was waiting in line 10 minutes before it opened (that's right, the line starts early) and got a dozen donuts. The staff was very friendly, but it took a very long time to get all of my donuts and coffee. My biggest complaint is the chocolate frosting. It's super heavy, almost dark chocolate tasting and it wasn't super sweet at all. The donut itself was great quality but the frosting left a lot to be desired. Honestly the vanilla frosting was so much better!! read more
