They have a sign directing traffic off Highway 16 that advertises one thing about all else: They are open 365 days a year. While it's nice that you can get their food at any time, the question was now whether I want their food any and every day of the year. After a quick stop by this week, the answer is a resounding "NO". Dexter's does one thing right. They use some nice quality beef and you can taste the freshness. No freezer patties here. I will now commence the complaints. Meat was very underseasoned, if seasoned at all. Meat was cooked at so low a temperature that there wasn't any crust at all. Bacon was limp and boring. The bun added nothing. The cheese wasn't melted enough. Their sauce (relish and mayo) had little flavor and they used too much of it. The burgers are always really good. Best Milkshakes around by far. We like to order ahead and pick it up to go.

From the reviews I thought this would blow my mind. What I soon realized that this is probably more about nostalgia than food. I had the Dexter cheeseburger (. 50 more for cheese) and the combo doesn't include drink. The cheeseburger did taste fresh and moderate size. Fries were crispy but a bit too salty. Overall its nothing to write home about. My wife had the chicken strips and said they weren't that good but took a bite of my hamburger and said that was tastier. Not sure if it was just the time i was there but all but one table was dirty. Though the bathroom was suprisingly clean. If I could I would rate this 3.5 stars. read more

Meh. We had to wait a long time for the burgers (and chipotle chicken burger) and the food wasn't good. Won't go back. Would just go to Burger King down the street next time we're in the area. The meat just didn't taste fresh. Chicken was chewy. I did appreciate the cucumber on the chipotle chicken burger though! read more

Yeah, the service sucks. Consistently bad every time. I only know because I keep going back. Not the best burger ever but it is good. Fries are closer to 5 stars, but make sure they do not forget your fry sauce. 1/2 the time they do. Shakes are also very good. Fresh made with ice cream. The way they should be made. read more

Was not great. Very greasy pre-made hamburger patties. Lettuce looked a little sketchy, so I pulled it off. Fries were Grease soaked as well meaning fryer wasn't hot enough. This stop was a 1 and done for me. read more

I don't know if these people have no taste buds or used to a McDonald's cheap happy meal. This place was my favorite in high school and still I will still drive from north east Tacoma where I live out to here to get a great tasting meal. Mind you I have lots to choose from where I live. If you truly are a foodie you will enjoy a burger here. Just to name a few places I like JP's tavern aka get there chicken sliders, Hans burgers, Vinny's pizza get there Harlem shake pizza and the list goes on. I support local businesses and for reviews on here don't don't worry mom and pop shops will go away and you'll have a McDonald's around every corner like a Starbucks if you don't support your local businesses. Just like Starbucks is the coffee good? No it's burnt? Do I go there yes only to see my lady in my QFC that works hard and knows great customer service. If you are looking for any type of service , this was not the place today . I stopped in after getting haircut to get burger and the girl at counter opens the window as I'm standing there and does not give me one word of acknowledgement! Just stood there . What happened to common courtesy? With that I left and figure I can spend my money on a business that at least can say "hi " "can I help you ". ANYTHING! I called and asked to speak to manager or owner and female came on the line and when I told her about all I got was "OK" I don't believe that the customer is always right as some think , but I do think if you are in business with public you can at least fake that you welcome the business .i won't be going back . read more

My boyfriend and I didn't feel like driving far from his place and we saw Dexter's and decided to give it a try. They have burgers, desserts, and pizza, among other things. It was our first time and we just wanted something quick and simple so decided to go with the pizza. We were given the option of for there or take & bake. We went with the take & bake and their instructions led to perfect cooking. The crust of the pizza left a bit to be lacking, but for a quick fix for dinner it was better than a frozen one. The toppings were surprisingly good. We had a garlic chicken with Alfredo sauce. The sauce was actually delicious and the chicken was just the right amount of flavor. They were out of artichoke hearts, but that wasn't the end of the world to me and they did offer to substitute something else. I foresee us coming back here in the future for quick dinner fixes. Nothing like being a paying customer and being told that the lobby was closing soon (it was 8:15pm and they close at 9:00 p.m.). The young man in charge, was telling the other, young timid boy to kick us out at 8:20 pm, while we still eating. The timid boy didn't do it, maybe he had a bad feeling about doing something like that. Talk about uncomfortable. Old style fast food place with a really nice family that operates it, Great fries. Very good burgers. I love the shrimp burger with a side of chili! They are a little slow in production but worth the wait. Always fresh. If you are looking for snooty upscale... not it. This place was good on my first visit and was thinking to myself ah it's nice to have a place we can just run to that's close to get some food but the second time we went here food wasn't very good. The food was OKAY. Nothing special about the burger, tasted like a backyard burger to me. The fries were obviously straight from a bag, and we asked for them to be extra crispy, which didn't happen. There wasn't an abundance of flavor in anything. The strawberry shake was amazing, otherwise I would've given 1 or 2 stars! The workers were net very personal. We used to really love this place but I just can't give them my business anymore. I've noticed the quality is questionable shift to shift. Delivery from there is always a disaster. I wanted to place an order and noticed it was close to closing, only 17 minutes left. I wanted to know if it was too late to get an order in so I called down. When I called I got the busy signal for a few minutes, then it started to ring! The phone clicked and made a beep like a message machine, so I hung up and called back. It rang for over a minute, then the same beep. Repeat both scenarios. I decide to just leave a message and after a few clicks I am suddenly hung up on. Call back and it rings for ages. It's now 5 minutes to close. I understand if you have a time cut off for orders, but you were just on the phone with someone else. You guys were still open for ten minutes, so I'm not sure why you stopped answering the phone. I just can't bring myself to order an overpriced burger from here again. Fun fact: when I was a baby my mom would visit this place and tuck my little seat in the booth. Dexter's is a hole in the wall, but the service is great and so is the food. I go to the high school next door and come down almost everyday for a shake, (which they make in under two minutes) as they are absolutely amazing and cheap, a XL 32oz shake is 4.99. They also have some interesting flavors that I have not seen elsewhere, Oreo is still my favorite though. The inside isn't at all modern and the walls are a bright yellow but other they keep the place clean and the table tops never have a crumb on them. read more

I like giving small businesses a hand, I do, but this joint is a step-up from going to a school cafeteria. I like the idea of a drive-in but that's not the concept I got. This little burger joint has been there for as long as I've been alive! It has the very best burgers in the world (or at least that I've eaten so far). I've been eating there since childhood and although the name has changed, the burgers never have. The same cook has worked there for as long as I remember. The milkshakes are awesome! It's totally worth the ten minute wait for your food. There's no other place like it! But I guess my feelings are a little bit bias since this place is "home" to me and gives me that warm feeling of childhood. It brings back a lot of memories. Truly a tiny gem in my opinion.
