    Roasted duck
    Tiffany P.

We came for the famous roasted duck - you know, the one that earned them a Michelin Bib Gourmand - so of course we went all in. Tip: you have to pre-order it a day ahead, because it takes 4 hours to prep! When it arrived, it definitely made an impression: a whole roasted duck stuffed with rice, mung bean, nuts, and seeds. Looks amazing, but it didn't quite deliver on taste. The duck leaned very lean. Not much richness or depth of flavor. Some bites were tender, others a bit dry. Overall, it just felt like it was missing that bold, crave-worthy "mmph," especially for a $125 centerpiece. They do serve it with sauces and ban chan on the side, which help, but we found ourselves wishing the duck could stand stronger on its own. Highlight of the night? Sharing some with the curious table next to us who had been eyeing it the whole time. Their verdict: "Wow, that tastes healthy." That pretty much nailed it. Looking back, I think we would've enjoyed the smoked duck more. It looked fattier, juicier, and indulgent. Plus, cooking it on a tabletop grill sounds like a much more fun and interactive experience. That said, service was excellent. Super warm and welcoming. Our server went above and beyond, breaking down the duck and plating perfect little bites for us so we could try everything. The space itself looked unassuming from the outside, but inside it felt like a solid spot for group dinners, family gatherings, or just kicking back with drinks and friends. Bonus points for valet parking in the back. Would I come back? Yes, but next time, I'm skipping the roasted duck.

My friend placed a reservation for the roasted duck a day in advance. The day came, and we arrived around 5pm for dinner when the restaurant had an ample amount of seating. The ladies in charge were full of energy and provided the hospitality of serving each plate, dividing up the portions with speed and fervor while sometimes making a mess. The roasted duck was unwrapped and revealed to be cooked with wild purple rice, sweet potato, and edible seeds (pumpkin?). Mildly flavored with mostly a smokiness to it, the meat is succulent with the fats adding a hit of richness. Otherwise, yes it does taste lacking something. Nothing sprinkling a generous portion of salt won't fix I guess, which is true of other Korean spots serving soups where you'd season to taste. Other dishes we ordered included the yukhoe (beef tartare) which had slices of pear, raw egg, sesame seeds, and spring onions. Refreshing, but definitely not for everyone. The rib soup was rich and tasty, worth trying and sharing with the table. Overall, not sure if it's worth the price but we had a good time and were stuffed.

On our last visit to Los Angeles we got to try the Michelin recommended Dha Rae Ok in Koreantown. Dha Rae Ok specializes in Korean style duck. We had a party of 9 so we got to try all thee of the duck preparations. You n ed to order in advance for the Roasted Duck. The other two was the smoked duck and the sliced duck barbecued on the grill. Out of the three styles the smoked duck was excellent much like a Taiwanese style. The Roast Duck had a rice stuffing and was just ok. The sliced on the grill was good. The other Korean dishes were excellent including their raw beef tartare and beef tripe casserole. Beers and soju are available. Service was excellent with staff helping you grill your meats. The meal itself was good 4.5 stars. The interior decor is out of the 80's KBBQ and needs some updating. Good that they have valet parking in the rear since street parking is impossible.

Came here for dinner w 4 friends and everything was so good. The duck is high quality, I've honestly never had duck like this before! We got 2 portions of the sliced duck and the fried rice came as complimentary. We also ordered the smoked duck and the large intestines. My favorite was the sliced duck. It smells amazing and tastes best when it's cooked just right, don't let it get too crispy. The smoked duck was great too, especially when the skin gets a little crispy. Same with the intestines, super clean, no bad smell at all, and so good when it's slightly crispy. Service was attentive and they checked on us and helped cook. It is a bit pricey tho but definitely worth it for the quality. Would come back for sure.

We celebrated my cousins graduation from music school here at Dha rae ok. It is just a few minutes' walk from the Galleria in K-Town, and while parking can be tough in the area, they offer valet parking for a small fee, which is a huge plus. Inside, you get a diner-like vibe with seating, and the staff was kind. The menu centers around duck, and we pre-ordered their signature 4-hour roasted duck--tender, cooked with sticky purple rice inside, and absolutely worth it. I did wish for a bit more flavor from the duck itself, though the tenderness was perfect. We also had a ribeye for our group of four. The meat quality was great, but there was confusion on timing--once the waitress flipped it, we didn't know if we should handle it or wait, and it ended up slightly overcooked. Overall, though, the food was good, and the experience was enjoyable, especially for duck lovers!"

What We Ordered - Roasted Duck $130 - Sliced Duck $46 - Kimchi Fried Rice $19 My friend and I saw videos of their roasted duck. It looked appetizing but felt a bit bland for our taste (and the price). Their sliced duck was very good! We wished there was more of that than the 1 plate. Kimchi Fried Rice was very tasty as well but it came out last so we were already half way done with the sticky rice inside the roasted duck. Will come back to try the Smoked Duck when we feel like splurging.

We enjoyed the smoked duck a lot. The roasted duck however was rather bland, the meat was too tender for my taste, the stuffing was good but not amazing. The noodle soup that came with it counteracted a bit of the blandness. So for the price, you can skip it. The kimchi fried rice was made with the purple rice and was amazing. The bonchon was rather tasty especially the fresh salad.

Service is 10/10 as the staff is really attentive and also cooks the meat for you. Keep in mind you need to call in advance for the roasted duck/stuffed duck. For the grilled duck, my group thought it was just ok. It's really high quality for sure but doesn't have much flavor but the good thing is, a serving can be shared across multiple people. It also comes with a noodle soup after! Worth trying once.

I came here on a Tuesday evening. There is a private lot to park, but it costs $4 because it's valet. The place is casual and has booths to sit at with a stove at each table. We were seated quickly and ordered right away. We had smoked duck which came with many small side dishes and a spicy duck noodle soup. They also served is a special cold tea in lieu of water which was refreshing. The server cooked our food for us and told us how to eat it. I wonder if this would happen during a busy time because I was thankful for the help. Overall, I enjoyed the service and the food. I would go back and try something different next time.

I am a super fan of duck, but somehow I missed this restaurant until now. At $130, the yellow clay roasted duck (황토오리구이) is more of a one time experience in the US, but it did make me want to fly to Korea and eat it at a bunch of different restaurants to compare. It's still an indulgence there, but at least it's way less expensive ($50 total). If you are looking for a rich, intensely flavored French style duck, consider trying the pressed duck prepared 3 ways at Pasjoli - which I deeply regret not eating again back when it was $80 and not $350. *This* duck is designed for health nuts like me, with medicinal herbs, nutrient packed ingredients, and minimal seasoning. The meat is extremely tender and falls off the bone. Because it's wrapped in a cloth before being placed in the clay pot, the oil has drained out so it's light and has a gentle roasted flavor, blending easily with the stuffing of glutinous rice, pepinos, gingko nuts, sweet potato, etc. It's served with two salads (lettuce, seasoned chives) and various banchan. You can also eat the duck with the chives salad or the mildly spicy dipping sauce. I'll be back to try the smoked duck and the regular grilled duck slices. Call to make a reservation a day in advance, since it takes 4h to cook so it can't be ordered the day of. You can order up to 10 at once (if you are feeling baller). Overall the restaurant has a relaxed homey vibe. There are comfortable wide booths in the restaurant along with the requisite ventilation for the table grills and the servers are pleasant. Parking in the lot behind the restaurant is $5 at dinner, free at lunch.

This is a ducking good time if you haven't been before. Apparently a Michelin guide restaurant (though not advertised), you come here for duck. Plain and simple. Whatever kind of duck you want is up to you but certain duck orders require ordering ahead of time. Anyway, they will grill the duck and you just eat it all up. It's seasoned well, it's juicy, and it's delicious. Anyway, that's all there is to it, good duck, not much else to it!

This place only does duck, and you definitely need to try it at least once. I reserved the special a day in advance, the baked duck with rice inside, and the rice was honestly hella good. So many textures going on with different grains, seeds, and spices, and it all worked together really well. The duck itself was solid, but that rice was something else. The staff was super friendly and made the experience even better. Portion-wise, it's a lot for two people. Three feels like the right number. A lot of tables around us were barbequing, so that's next on my list. Service: Super friendly and welcoming Food/Drinks: Excellent duck, unbelievable rice with complex textures, large portions Ambiance: Casual Korean restaurant setting 9/10 Unique duck-focused spot with standout rice that's worth planning ahead for

If you're looking for a KBBQ experience that goes beyond the usual brisket-and-pork-belly lineup, this spot is an absolute gem. Specializing in duck, they've turned what could be a niche protein into the star of the show. The duck arrives sizzling on the grill with just the right amount of seasoning -- smoky, tender, and rich without being heavy. Each cut has its own character, from the crispy skin that crackles with flavor to the lean slices that soak up the marinades perfectly. And the banchan? Bright, plentiful, and constantly refreshed, balancing the richness of the meat with tangy, spicy, and crunchy bites. Service is attentive in that classic K-Town way: efficient, quick with grill changes, and genuinely eager to make sure you're having the best experience. The staff gave us great tips on how to wrap the duck in perilla leaves with garlic, ssamjang, and a touch of kimchi -- absolute perfection in one bite. The atmosphere is lively, with the buzz of conversations and the comforting aroma of grills firing at every table. It's exactly the kind of place you bring friends when you want a memorable night out with food that feels both indulgent and unique. Pro tip: order the duck three ways if they offer it -- marinated, smoked, and plain. It's the best way to appreciate the full spectrum of flavors. Koreatown is full of great BBQ, but this place stands out by making duck the main character. If you think you've "done" KBBQ already, come here and let them change your mind.

The ambiance was lovely and perfect for a date night. The dining room felt dark, intimate, and cozy, and I especially loved the little candle on the table. It was a small touch, but it made the experience feel warm and special. We ordered the perilla oil noodle, scallop pancake, pork jowl, and hwaechae milk to share. The perilla oil noodle had a strong perilla aroma which I loved, but beyond that it didn't really taste like much. It wasn't bad but it's probably the one dish I'd skip next time. The scallop pancake was great. It was crispy, packed with scallops, and the dipping sauce complemented it really well. The pork jowl was easily our favorite dish of the night. It was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with all of the accompanying condiments. Every bite felt balanced and well thought out. The hwaechae milk was also delicious and refreshing. It was a fun drink to share and a nice contrast to the richer dishes. While the food was good overall, the portions felt pretty small for the price point. Everything tasted good but it was hard not to notice how quickly the dishes disappeared given what we paid. Maybe it was just the specific dishes we ordered but considering Danbi is on the Michelin Guide, I was expecting bolder and more memorable flavors. Korean cuisine is known for being vibrant and packed with flavor so I left feeling a little underwhelmed. Nothing we had was bad but aside from the pork jowl there wasn't a dish that really wowed me. To end the meal, the staff brought us a yuzu popsicle topped with a birthday candle, which ended up being my favorite part of the entire night. The popsicle was perfectly tangy, refreshing, and honestly more memorable than any of the dishes we ordered. It made the celebration feel thoughtful without being over the top. Overall, we had a great experience. The atmosphere was beautiful, the service was attentive, and it was a lovely place to celebrate a special occasion even though it was a bit overhyped given the small portions, high prices, and flavors that didn't quite live up to my expectations. I'd still come back to try the steak tartare, uni bibimbap, and the zabuton!

They raved about how good the spare ribs were and even insisted that their last meal before LA should be at Ham Ji Park.  Here's my belated review of what I consider the best spare ribs in LA. From the moment the Korean-style spare ribs arrived at the table, it was clear this was a dish worth savoring. Each rib bore a beautifully charred exterior--deeply caramelized without a hint of bitterness--offering that irresistible smoky aroma the moment it was placed before us. The glaze was nothing short of spectacular. A perfect balance of sweet and spicy, it clung to the meat with a glossy sheen that promised flavor in every bite. There was just enough heat to make your taste buds sit up and pay attention, but it never overwhelmed the deeper, richer notes of the sweet components. But what truly set these ribs apart was the texture. Beneath the charred surface lay meat so tender it practically fell off the bone with the gentlest tug of a fork. Each bite was juicy and succulent, the result of careful cooking and a respect for quality ingredients. Ham Ji Park, you will be missed. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for the food.

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies.
