We just left Dickies in Elk Grove-- food was great as always. We usually get our order to go but today, we decided to eat in the restaurant. I had a rib plate- husband had brisket plate. Our sides were baked beans, fried okra, and waffle fries. The ribs were so tender meat fell off the bone. The sides were hot and freshly made and restaurant was cool and clean. But what impressed us most was the friendly crew who was working. We received a greeting as soon as we walked in by the friendly young man chopping the brisket. The manager on staff was a young Hispanic man who attended to all the restaurant guests. He is outstanding! A Disabled person came in the restaurant and he took the time to come from around the counter to open the door for her, assist her and help her get the soft serve ice cream, even though restaurant was busy. My husband who is s chef said Dickies is lucky to have such a great crew representing the positive experience you expect to receive at their restaurant. read more

Dear dickeys bbq, Barbeque is probably one of my most favorites kinds of food and if done right can melt my heart. I had s today a beef brisket sandwich, that had onion and pickle on it. It was so damn dry I had to cover it in sauce, which didn't even make up for how dry it was. Secondly it was COLD. I think for $8 you can do better. These kids do not know how to work the line. When we went in there were about 5 people ahead of us. By the time it was our turn, there were 7 people behind us. All in all, it took 40 minutes to get our damn food. I don't know if I should be irritated because I allowed myself to wait that long or how nonchalant these kids acted. It's a damn job, please act like you care! One of the worker's rolled her eyes at a customer because she didn't get out of her way fast enough. $40 dollars to feed 3 people. Free ice cream? I stopped in for lunch two weeks ago and boy am I glad I did. The two guys working were personable and knowledgeable. I had the Wednesday special, "the westerner" and it was delicious. Sides of jalapeño beans and potato salad solidified a great meal. Friday night I took my family out and we met friends for dinner. I ordered 2 2 meat plates. One with chicken breast and beef brisket, and the other with pulled pork and beef brisket. Sides were potato salad, coleslaw and mac and cheese. I also ordered their brownie as well. Meats were a little dry for me. The taste was all there, but just a little dry. I wish they gave a side of bbq sauce or something to moistened the meat up, but I wasn't sure as I had this meap delivered via door dash. We threw a big house retirement party, I mean 40 people, maybe the order was too big, not sure, ... we ordered the full boat menu for 4:30 a full day ahead of time and paid ahead in full​, but the order was an hour late, the chicken and pork were both very dry like they were left in the warming oven too long, the coleslaw​ was watery and mediocre, the BBQ sauces were thin and the very hot​ spicy sauce, which was pretty good, was not easily found as provided in unmarked paper drink cups. The spud salad was not​ special and can be found in any supermarket​ deli section and worst of all whoever​ made the creamed spinach​ never saw a salt shaker he didn't love. If you decided to order from Dickies, I suggest you taste the stuff before you take it out of the store. read more

For those who have never been to a Dickey's, you can order a range of meats (sausage, chicken, brisket, pulled pork) and a wide selection of sides (cannot even describe all of the amazing options). Prices are reasonable (around $10-$15), service was great (staff was very friendly) and we were in and out in under 30 minutes. You get a lot of food for your money and the food is delicious. Sliced brisket was juicy and fall apart tender, coleslaw was great on the pulled pork which was a little dry and not something I'll order again. I mixed the Spicy BBQ sauce and the Original that seemed to be the right formula for some tasty sauce. Baked beans were meh, but not bad. What i did LOVE, LOVE, LOVE was the ice. Food wasn't bad, but this restaurant suffers from new restaurant syndrome which in turn makes the customer suffer. The staff is pretty lost, clueless, and disorganized... my wife and I were lucky to get the food that we did. I can understand the long lines since it's new, but there should really be some sort of a manager or whip cracker to keep the kids behind the counter focused and attentive. They had run out of half of the meats and items we wanted to order, but they had no clue they were out till they ran around like chickens with their heads cut off searching and asking each other. We got our food to go, but the cashier failed to give us any sauce, condiments, or napkins and utensils, and failed to tell us that we needed to get our own. Not a good first experience, but I'm chalking it up to new restaurant syndrome and we'll probably give them another shot in 6 months if they're around... For the time being I'll stick to JR's, Rib Shack, or any of the other BBQ places in the greater EG area. read more

Went there today and ordered 2 Rib platters which came with mac n' cheese and fries. It ended up costing $27 out the door without drinks. The ribs are just reheated and sort of nasty. The mac n' cheese was bland and honestly, really gross. The fries were waffle style fries and completely flavorless and unseasoned. I honestly do not understand how the people of Elk Grove gave this place 4 stars! It's sad that I've had better ribs at the Safeway deli than this BBQ Pit. Save your money and go somewhere else. The other night, we ordered two 2-meat plates from Dickey's with delivery from Doordash. I really wanted 2 servings of Turkey, but since you have to order two different meat selections, I chose Turkey & Pulled Pork (my wife did the same). When our meals arrived, both contained all pulled pork & "Out of Turkey" was written on each food container. Dickey's never contacted us prior to filling our orders, offering to cancel or substitute another meat. Had we known they were out of turkey we likely wouldn't have ordered & certainly wouldn't have ordered all pulled pork. We tried calling the store but got no answer so we proceeded to eat the food we received. The mac & cheese side and roll were good, however I found the pork to be quite dry & overcooked and half way through her meal, my wife found a hair in her meal, at which point we tossed it all. I called the store again & left a message this time explaining our experience & my wife did the same via e-mail, however Dickey's never responded to either of us. Thus the 1 star review. First this was a Door Dash delivery but from the time I placed my order, we were getting our order delivered. But when I received the food, it was NOT hot or even warm. Went here for dinner tonight (pick up) ordered online. Had a horrible experience with food. We were charged for 6 dinner rolls, which were ordered but not received. Ordered medium Mac & cheese, were charged, but received individual. Order of 12 ribs were burnt, 6 were fine. Sweet barbecue wings, no sauce on them at all. One word could possibly describe my experience at this establishment: disappointed. I ordered the pulled pork meat plate with some French fries and baked beans. My pulled pork was lukewarm, and not up to par. My beans and fries were mediocre, not at all what is expected. I finally had some of the "free" soft serve. ( it is free with purchase). Runny, bland. But a good thing is if you bring back the signature "big yellow cup" you could pay refill price(which is still more than most places for any drink). Ordered for delivery via the Dickey's Barbecue website. Order was scheduled for delivery at 7:45, gave a little extra time because it was a Saturday night and maybe they're busy. I called at 8:15 to inquire why there had been no updates on the order tracking in the website and was told they don't do delivery so I have to call The service I used. Was passed to the manager Luis who explained that my order had been ready but they do not provide delivery but rather partner with a service with no way to contact said service. So ok fine, I'll pick it up the overheard Luis make a statement about "these stupid customers" (me) when he must have thought the phone was unable to pick up his voice. I called him out at which time there was no apology. I then asked for a refund due to his statement. Luis should not be a manager of a customer facing business if he does not have the skill set or at least he should go through retraining. read more

We ordered the family pack bbq pork ribs and the beef brisket, potato casserole, green beans, and coleslaw. The meats were very tender and juicy. We also got a kids meal chicken nuggets and that meal was FREE! Sundays with purchase. We didn't know but it was a nice surprise. This was our first time. The staff were so nice and helpful. Especially the guy that was clean tables. I wish we got his name. He was so nice and my family and I had a pleasant conversation! We were there today about 5-6. Over all we loved it and will be back! My boyfriend had the westerner ($7) choose two meat and onion and pickle. he got the polish sausage and pulled pork. The two sides that I got was Mac n cheese and potato salad . The sides were not good at all. The ribs were tender and just right! The westerner was perfect! I love their big yellow cup! It's plastic and reuseable! Also they have free ice cream! Awesome! I'm usually pleased with the food but today (3/17/21) the ribs were dry and the spinach was cold. The last time I was there there was an older gentleman who waited on me and every time he's there the ribs are on point. Today was some young women and the food was awful and unfortunately I couldn't return because of my work schedule. So this store has only been open since March 20, however, WOW! We came in around 4pm and they were not that busy yet the staff was sooo lost! They really need more training. Oh this place is good. I come here whenever I'm in the area and want some great BBQ w/o the sit-down restaurant wait. You'll probably still wait though, as this place does get really busy. That's okay though, since they have free soft-serve available while you wait (very effective at calming any little ones you might have with you). I also like the way that they're very open about the way they cook/grill their meats. It's cool to see them pull out a fresh block of meat and start trimming it before slicing out the choice parts that will be going in your sandwich. The place is small and the line works like Chipotle or Panda Express, but it can get crowded. Employees here are always maintaining it after customers leave, which is a big deal for me. Worst service ever! In this time restaurants should have no mistakes in to-go orders! It's not like they are super busy with a full lobby. I order a western plate and a western sandwich the meat on the sandwich was wrong it had pork and I can't eat pork! The western plate was never put in the bag so when I got home I was missing an entree. For the kids meals the cookie that they charge extra for was also missing!
