We were so disappointed the food was cold and stale...but the shake was warm. Fries were cold and greasy.. The bun was so hard we couldn't even eat it and the burger was not at all edible...As busy as the place is I thought the food might be pretty good.. This place is a "FAUX" of the real Dicks in Seattle. To call it the trailer trash cousin would be a compliment. The sign may look like Dicks in Seattle but that's the only similarity. I'm not sure how to review this place. The food was basic but in an good way. The menu was old school and didn't offer all kinds of "extras". The seating is all outdoors on picnic tables and there isn't much shade around lunch time. The weirdest part was the ordering. No line to get into. Just stand around until a window opens and you make your way up to order. They don't write down your order yet they have to ask you numerous times what you ordered. You pay once you get your food not when you order. They can spot an out of town person () in an instant and aren't super welcoming. In a nutshell...check it out if you need a quick bite or snack. I stopped by this location when I came to Spokane for work. I've had a burger at dicks in Seattle and it's a really good burger. The burger at the Spokane location wasn't as pleasant compared to seattle. Don't get me wrong, it reminded me of a dicks burger... but also a McDouble. Dick's Hamburgers is an iconic Spokane business. Founded in 1954 by Elmer Miller, it was originally called "Kirk's Drive-in." In the 1960s, the restaurant changed its name to "Panda Self-Service Drive-In." This explains the panda that remains on the neon sign today. In 1967, the name was changed one last time to "Dick's." I originally thought that Spokane's Dick's is affiliated with the ones in Seattle. But I was wrong. Shout-out to Brandi and Toni for explaining to me that the one in Spokane is not in any way affiliated with Dick's Drive-in that has 7 locations in Seattle. The two ladies (who were incredibly hilarious!) also explained that they don't serve lettuce and tomatoes in their burgers, as opposed to the Dick's in Seattle. I ordered the Whammy burger (quarter-pound burger with two slices of cheese), fries, and peppermint shake for a whopping $8.02! Such a good deal! Maybe I was just too hungry at the time, but I really liked their burger. Surprisingly, it wasn't too greasy. Fries were decent. I think I still prefer the Seattle fries better, though. What invites people to keep coming to Dick's is its fast service and cheap food. Their regular hamburgers may be $1.49 today rather than the 21 cents they were in 1969, but they are still a steal. Dick's is one of those businesses that has stayed true to its roots. The style hardly changed since 1954. The building and signage have remained virtually untouched in the last fifty or so years. Other notes: - They accept debit/credit cards. - Outdoor seating only. - Neighborhood is a little sketchy. - There are overhead heaters to keep you warm while waiting for your order. I read a bunch of travel blogs that said to check this place out when in Spokane. So, I took a walk. The sign is hilarious, and it is well worth an Instagram post. I ordered a cheeseburger, small fries, and a small shake. It cost me a little under $7, so the prices are still stuck in the good old days. Food was quick. I appreciate that there was no grease. Burger was plain, and it actually reminded me of McDonalds. The fries were the best part of the entire meal. Why only 3 stars? I grew up in Spokane and recently moved back after 12 years with a couple visits in the winter here and there. I've always gotten a burger and fries but recently seen someone talking about someone important that showed up and ALWAYS gets the fish and chips. One of my favorite meals. So for the first time I decided to order fish and chips yesterday and when I say it was so sub par, I was SO disappointed for this being one of my all time favorite places. The fish batter had no flavor whatsoever and the fish was soooo dry. Plus it looked like fish sticks instead of just battered fish. The fries just didn't hit the same either. A couple were burned and the meal itself didn't come with any lemons... I still give it 4 stars though because I've never had bad customer service there. I don't like how close it is to the folks that are on the streets out there but ultimately I don't not feel safe. I'd say it's more of a family place during the day though when it's nice and sunny! The window ordering takes you back to the ages of social interaction when we used to talk to people while we wait for our food. Great stop for kids. Average burgers and fries. We git two whammy burgers, a plain cheeseburger, chicken tenders with fries, onion rings and a large fry. We aldo got milkshakes; huckleberry, chocolate, and peanut butter. Food was good not anything spectacular, prices are fair, location is lacking. Service wasn't awful but not great either. They forgot our onion rings, didn't make the cheeseburger plain, and were supposed to make the lb shake half chocolate/half peanut butter. Staff was short when we took food back to get corrected. Dick's . . . wow . . . how many decades have passed since I have been to Dicks? Oy! Lunch time, so the parking lot was packed. For those of you who don't know, Dick's is an old school place that prolly had car-hops back in the day; no inside, just a huge covered area and four windows to order from. Simple stuff here, burgers and fries and onion rings and chicken and . . . fish & chips (yes, that is how I rate a place). - The fish has a very thin corn breading and was good, although a couple of pieces were a little tough on the outside . . . a tip for ya, Dick's! Thicken that coating a little . . . the fish will cook better! (trust me, I've cooked more fish in a fryer than most fry cooks!) - The fries were very good . . . not the thin fast food variety, but medium sized and nearly perfect. Outstanding! - Onion Rings were good, real onion, although not crispy enough for my taste. With the meal right around just under 11.00 (no drink purchased), I'd say that it was a successful outing. read more

This was a tough review for me. Dick's will always be 5 Stars in my heart. I used to live in Spokane in the late 90's. My friends and I would frequent Dick's often. Since then, I've been to Dick's three times. It hasn't changed a bit! Which is both a good and bad thing. The food at Dick's is vintage and classic fast-food. Shakes, simple burgers, and greasy, salty fries. It's all prertty good! It was dirt cheap in the 90's and it's still fairly cheap today. However, part of the cost savings comes from the fact they don't sell a deluxe $7 bacon, blue cheese, mushroom, jalapeno burger, for example. The problem with Dick's is also that it has NOT changed since it's inception in the 1960's. Keep the food and menu, but please update the facilities, pave the pot-holed parking lot, and make it look less scetchy. For those who are concerned about the homeless problem in and around Dick's, that has always been an issue...it's not just a new problem as part of the more recent "homeless explosion". As for seagulls...I didn't see any on this last visit. I can deal with seagulls. Lastly, and the reason my review dropped from 4 to 3 stars is the lack of restrooms! I really needed to go after hours on the road. I walked to the back of the building where the restrooms used to be and they were closed with a sign stating they were sorry, but they had closed their restrooms and placed two porta-Johns in the back of the parking lot. They didn't offer a reason, but I can only assume they closed the restrooms for security reasons. I have deployed three times overseas and have experienced some pretty nasty living conditions, but these were some of the most disgusting porta-Johns I have ever experienced. read more

I went before dropping someone off at the Spokane airport. Wasn't expecting anything one way or another, I just heard of Dick's so we stopped in. The burger was good! Better than more popular chains whose buns are bigger than their meat!!! With Dick's, you CAN see the burger in the bun, which I definitely approve of. Nothing unique, but good burger flavor.
