I travel to Spokane annually, and I had to try this place to compare it to the unaffiliated Dick's Drive In in Seattle. I went with family and we had a pretty big order. I opted for the #2 (cheeseburger) with fries. The burger was everything you'd hope for in a $2 cheeseburger... gooey, greasy, cheesy, salty, and delicious. I hate to admit, but I think these burgers have the Dick's in Seattle beat. The fries were quite good too. So, why the three star review? The service was, frankly, horrendous. While the workers seem to pride themselves on memorizing orders, the gal helping us absolutely butchered it. She must have attempted to repeat our order back to us five times, and each time, she had something wrong. When we finally received our order, items were incorrect and some were outright missing. We ended up having to sit there for about 20 minutes for everything to be remedied. The gal was completely unapologetic. Their customer service is a lot to be desired, bringing this review down to three stars. Since I was a kid, Dick's has been an obligatory stop for burgers, fries, and shakes when visiting Spokane. This was a place my dad used to frequent as a young man in the 60's, and apparently the burgers haven't changed a bit since then (well, except for the prices where they were like 65 cents a piece). It's a classic greasy fast-food joint. I think they still use the same original menu design behind the window, and that panda character on the big sign is still the original from 1964. Dick's was definitely an experience. Wanna start off w/ a shout out to the ladies taking orders. These ladies are spot on when it comes to taking orders. No need to write anything down, shoot I couldn't even remember my own order cause we were ordering so many items. They got it spot on though. So it's a lil Mom and Pop place, prices are SUPER reasonable, outdoor seating, lots of people feeding the annoying seagulls. We basically tried everything on the menu. Whammy burger, corn dog, fries, onion rings, ice cream sammies, pinnapple Dole whip (lactose free). All were delicious. Being fm Cali we are used to our mayo and ranch dressing however on the burgers you get ketchup, mustard and for onion rings tartar sauce. All and all so glad we came here. read more

Dick's is a great local place. This place is more on the dive side of hamburger places, but come on, you can see that from the outside. If you don't like what you see don't complain about it when you get out of your car and eat there. That being said, the outside is certainly not nice, I just don't care that much. I strongly believe they should put walls off the front for the winter, I feel like their heating bill is off the charts because of the open area. (Im from Seattle so i will try my best to not be bias) I came here on a Saturday evening and got a whammy, fries, and a root beer shake. When I arrived, I stood there for maybe 5 minutes because I had no idea where the line was, as it was my first time. There was a crowd and I guess they were all waiting for their orders. Lesson learned: just go to the front. The whammy was pretty average for me. It was just a regular cheeseburger, except two patties. I think next time I'll get a regular cheeseburger and choose one of the options for toppings instead. The fries were also pretty average. Someone in the reviews said they're like McDonald's fries and that was spot on. The root beer shake however was PHENOMENAL. Best shake ive ever had and I cant wait to try more flavors. If you are in Spokane and don't eat at Dicks you have issues. This is not the same as the Seattle chain. It is a one off that started in Spokane. Everything here is dirt cheap and considering the price, amazing beyond belief. They have damn good burgers as well as fish & chips and chicken strips and milkshakes and malts. Even during the pandemic, this place was open late at night and quite busy. Dick's is an old fashioned no frills hamburger stand, no drive through, no indoor seating. There are some (not particularly clean) wooden tables and benches in the parking lot. Since ordering and eating is outside, it's pretty easy to stay socially distanced and we felt safe eating here. We didn't discover until later that this is a long established local institution, but I'm not surprised. There was a stack of free local papers to take, which was a nice touch. Burgers and fries were fine, not the greatest I have had but not bad. The Huckleberry shake was outstanding, I would highly recommend trying their shakes and malts. The prices were outstanding also, very cheap. So overall a great value. Staff was friendly and there was very little wait for the food. We were a little confused about where to order. Apparently the way they do it is for people to walk up to any window that has a staff member open, there is no designated line. That staff member then completes that order before taking the next customer. Definitely not the cleanest part of town, but we didn't feel particularly unsafe. We could see our car at all times and coming from the San Francisco Bay area, we are used to seeing homeless camps. (bring your Lipitor) Not an issue for me but if you are a vegetarian you can even order a cheeseburger without meat (not on the menu). Try doing that at Dicks Seattle and they will laugh at you. Some critique the crowd at Dicks Spokane. I think it is great. Here is what you get anytime of the day. Homeless guys, 3-piece suit business men, blue collar workers, soccer moms, old folks, highschool kids and more. I have never had any problems there and have actually been pleasantly suprised with how friendly everyone is. Now don't get me wrong I am a fan of Dicks Seattle too. And if I am looking for a cheap cheeseburger in Seattle it is my #1 choice over the other big chains. In Spokane Dicks is my #1 choice for the same. Keep in mind that this place is not related to Dick's in Seattle--even though they are both drive-in's that serve burgers and shakes on the cheap. A big difference is that Dick's in Spokane has a much bigger menu, with fish and pizza and other yummy things. One weird thing is how you order. You order, then stand around waiting for your order, then pay when you pick up. Well, when you actually have dreams of craving good fast food,and visulize actually going there ,then you know its a great place. In 2008, I flew up to Wash from Utah for a family reunion. We went to Dicks one time during the five day visit, and I ended up going back myself three more times during our stay.
