The happy hour pricing is really good but the food is kinda bland for Mexican food. The vibe was pretty happening. However, the service wasn't great. The server took a while to take our order and would forget to refill our waters. At the end the server presented an electronic kiosk to swipe our cards to pay the bill and held the kiosk and glared at us as we chose which option to tip. The tipping options were 20%, 22%, and 25%. Sounds like a popsicle place, but it's Mexican food! Tacos, bowls, and burritos. I loove pineapple, so I got the braised pineapple pork bowl. Someone in the group got a side of plantains and they're soo good! We went on a Tuesday night and it looked pretty busy but we only had to wait about 15 min. They have a Taco Monday special and regular happy hour specials. There's also plenty of parking around, either on the street or in a nearby garage. They have plantains here! That's game over for me. My mom used to cook them for me when I was growing up, so they've always been a comfort food for me, so when I saw it on the menu, I was immediately excited, enthralled, and jumping up and down in jubilation. (However, if you are not into plantains or bananas, I guess that could be your nightmare, but to each their own, right?) Happy hour is what drew us in. $4 margaritas are an excellent deal especially when drinks are triple or quadruple that when we go to Vegas. The tacos had quite the variety. You could get flour or corn tortillas and if you got flour, you could also get it fried. That's what I did when I ordered pork and pineapple taco. I also got two other ones to try.. the carne asada taco and the fried battered cod taco. I had them with a side of coconut rice and black beans. The sides were smaller when served with the tacos, but that's okay, because these tacos were definitely larger than street tacos. I probably would've been fine with just two. They were really tasty! We were full from drinking and eating dinner, but there's always room for dessert. I've found it to be true that there's an extra separate tummy for dessert. The sweetness of choice that won me over was the churro with soft serve ice cream. Amazeballs. The restaurant itself is a treat for the eyes, full of color and vibrance in every direction. Came here off of a recommendation and it was a great spot for groups! We came here as a table of 7 and got seated right away (it was a weekday around lunch time). Every doubt you have in your head needs to be erased because these are some of the BEST nachos I've ever had in my entire life and I would consider myself a nacho connoisseur. I also have a passion for sauce which makes me love this place even more because they bring out a whole sauce holder with several different sauce options. The best part? They put a fried egg on top. So sad to leave this review - the Roasted brussel sprout nachos have always been one of my favorites in Old Town, but today's visit was a huge disappointment. The brussel sprouts were practically raw - definitely not roasted. Cheese on the nachos and the quesadilla was barely melted. Guacamole was ok, but not as good as it used to be. Giving this place a three because it was very mediocre. All hype no delivery. The only positive experience were the bartenders and the drinks they made. When we walked in the bouncer was extremely rude. I asked if the bar was open seating and he kept saying it doesn't matter you're not going to find a spot so you're gonna have to wait either way. He wouldn't answer my question with a clear yes or no so had to ask the bartender. After we put our name down a couple left so we fortunately were able to sit at the bar with no wait. Ordered tacos and Brussels sprout nachos. The Brussels sprouts tasted awful. They were over roasted so all you tasted was the burn. There also wasn't much cheese on them for as many chips that were there. We fortunately were able to eat around them. The server also acted annoyed when I asked if we could have one of all the salsas. If it wasn't for our amazing bartender and great drinks they made this place would have been a bust. read more

CONS: *Hostesses (both) were rude and acted like they had better things to do than answer questions about seating...which is pretty much their only job (this was the evening of 3/10). We were a group of four adults ages 35-60...not some 20-something trying to buy one beer and bar hop. *Service was pretty slow, which was OK for us. But, it could be problematic if you're in a hurry. I've been coming to Diego Pops for years and can never get enough. It has been one of my top 10 restaurants in Arizona consistently and I have taken just about everybody I know to this restaurant. The ambience is fire, the bar has a good vibe and is always poppin, and the patio serves as a great spot to hang out even during the dead of summer! Whether you come at 3pm or 10pm, the food is always consistent and soooo delicious. I will say, as much as I love Diego Pops, the service can be a hit or a miss. This place was so cute! When we arrived, there was about a 30 minute wait. The staff was very nice and friendly. We waited in the front of the restaurant where they have a small outdoor bar and tables and chairs underneath a tent. There was music and the drinks were great! I tried the pear margarita - sooooo good. We were sat and ordered our food. We went with tacos of course. My boyfriend got the crispy and grilled shrimp tacos. He said they were delicious! I had high hopes for this place based on how it looked, reviews, and recommendations. However, I wasn't as impressed as I wish I was! The food was good, don't get me wrong, but it came out luke warm. They were a little busy so unsure if it was just sitting there for awhile but I think if the food came out hot and fresh, it could've been amazing.
