    Diego's Crack Fries
    Heather R.

This place is awesome! There is a great view of the marina area, the drinks were amazing and there is even a gluten-free menu as well as a vegan menu. The Silver Fox drink was soooo good - you would think it would be tart but it was so smooth. Very strong drinks too wowza. The food was incredible. Try Diego's Crack Fries - they were very tasty. My buffalo cauliflower burrito and his cali burrito were flavorful and made us full for sure. Prices very reasonable, even more so for a waterfront restaurant. The service was very good as well. If you're in Newport RI, this is the spot!

Best Mexican menu and food in all of Newport! OK maybe an exaggeration but this spot is the ultimate restaurant! Service was absolutely perfect, friendly, relaxed and soooooo professional and yet no pressure and great chill zone. Cute booths either a nice and attentive bartender, Christian! Beautiful view of Newport Harbor. Visit for the sheet nachos stay for the margaritas and beers.

Diego's totally blew us away. The menu is packed with fun, flavorful options and everything we ordered was seriously delicious. You can tell the kitchen puts a lot of love into the food. And the drinks? So good. Their cocktails are creative and super refreshing, we could've stayed just for those. The service was awesome too. Everyone was super friendly, quick, and made us feel really welcome. It's the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable. Bonus points for the bathrooms being super clean, which isn't always the case at busy spots like this. If you're in Newport and looking for a fun place with great food, drinks, and good vibes, Diego's is it. We'll definitely be back! Great view of the wharf as well. Friendly staff at the check-in staff, makes you feel welcomed for sure.

While this may seem like the perfect tourist trap - the place has so much to offer and I would come here every week if I would live closer. It's got the perfect location, amazing interior, friendly service and of course an amazing menu that includes a separate full vegan menu. The food was very well prepared and tasted authentic and, despite being full, the service was very prompt. We are definitely coming back!

Love the food. People are great. Clean atmosphere. The cold quickie ( adult chocolate milk). Is a must

Made a reservation to eat upstairs with a water view (indoors because it's December) and absolutely loved our view. I really recommend making a reservation for this area of the restaurant in the winter. We had some queso and we all enjoyed our meals. Our service was super friendly and attentive.

The four stars are only because we had drinks and did not eat when we visited. Our first stop in Newport was to Diego's. The restaurant had outdoor, indoor and an upper level seating. My party and I decided to sit at the upstairs bar and it was so fun. It gave the vibe of being in a treehouse. The staff were very friendly and their positive attitudes added to the pleasant experience here. The drinks were delicious I ordered the pop mi cerveza and it was just what I needed on a summer day. So refreshing! Make sure to add this to your list of stops while in Newport!

Really enjoyed my visit to Diego's while in Newport! The food was solid. We split the cauliflower tacos and crispy Brussels sprouts, both full of flavor and nicely done. The real standout here is the atmosphere: fun, upbeat, and welcoming without feeling too busy or loud. Service was excellent and our server was friendly, helpful, and kept things moving without rushing us. Overall, a great spot to grab a bite and enjoy the vibe. I'd definitely come back next time I'm in town!

Diego's was an excellent visit. The restaurant is located in touristy Bowens Wharf, very close to the water, and encompasses two floors. As we we were being led to the second floor, I noticed that the first floor, and even the ceiling, had hundreds of Polaroid pictures. I'm assuming they're from prior customers, but it looked really cool. Our booth, on the second floor, was very comfortable and had a beautiful view of the ships at Bowens Wharf. Our server, Daniel, was exceptional. He was attentive, helpful with recommendations, and made the entire meal very pleasant. I ordered a Standard Margarita and it was S.T.R.O.N.G. Thank goodness, that we walked for another hour through Bowens Wharf or else someone else would have driven back to NJ. TRY IT! All of the orders were on point. Each was flavorful, well seasoned, and at the perfect temperature to enjoy immediately: Chicken Tortilla Soup and Cali Burrito (Chicken tinga, crispy potatoes, pico de gallo, guacamole, slaw, Baja cheese, black beans, wrapped in a grilled flour tortilla). The sides were delicious and thoroughly enjoyed: Street Corn, Spanish rice & beans, Crispy Brussel Sprouts with Ponzu (Japanese citrus-based vinaigrette that's salty, sweet, and tangy) & Garlic. If you're in the area, don't hesitate to dine at Diego's, all while enjoying the delicious food and phenomenal views.

I had a truly excellent meal as well as excellent service. My group sat upstairs at the outdoor bar, with fans going and a beautiful sunset, it was the perfect setting. The spicy marg was actually spicy, not sweet and syrupy and I enjoyed the salted rim. A Tajin rim would be the only improvement to be made. The bartender assisted me in deciding what I wanted to eat and our food came out quickly and with fresh ingredients and flavorful sauces. The service we received was top notch, I will be returning very soon to explore the menu more!

IMO- Diego's is a must visit restaurant in Newport if you like Mexican cuisine with fresh ingredients and unique twists! Tucked in the hub of the shops- with so many neat seating options from heated igloos, to upstairs and downstairs dining as well as bar seating- there is a spot for all! Open for lunch and dinner as well :) Tons of cool specialty cocktails to try but we opted for more typical ones with margaritas and sangria. Next time, we will be more adventurous with the cocktails we pick! However, we did love the ones we got! For food- we started with their special guacamole for the day which added pork belly- YUM-o! And the duck empanadas with duck gravy. I don't typically like empanadas (it's more my husband's thing) but he said I had to try these and I did- so good, so much flavor, a little heat, and the gravy- divine! We also got the fried chicken tacos- so many flavors, balanced well, chicken was juicy, just a real winner! It might sound funny but a place can easily get a taco wrong- Diego's does not and knows how to put equal parts of all the ingredients so you get each with a bite. No small feat! The barbacoa burrito was equally delicious it came with a side of house made lime pickles and a jalapeño puree dipping sauce- both so fresh and such a cool twist to add. Service was wonderful as well- our waiter, Danny, was friendly and let us drink and dine at our leisure. When we are back in Newport, we will be for sure stopping by!

Every time we come here the service is excellent and the food is amazing. This is what we come for right? Outstanding food and service! This year was no different than the other years and I love how the menu continues to evolve and change and everything that comes to life from the menu to the table is well thought out and bursting with harmonious blends of flavor. The presentation is gorgeous too! Plating is also important and they nail it! Okay let's gooooo! Come join our dining experience! We tried a bit of everything! We loved every bit of it. I'll mention my faves but that doesn't take away how hard it was to choose a fave! Everything was DELICIOUS ! Raw bar: Jamestown oysters . We had 10. We can't get enough east coast oysters. We live in the west side and I cannot say enough how much better oysters are on east coast! Slurp ! Mmm! Snacks: 1. Shartner's Farm Carrots: pea green pesto, pine nut, n'duja . If you're a meat, potato and pasta person and try to avoid your veggies, don't do that here. GET IT! It's such a great melody of textures and flavors that pair well. It doesn't feel like you are eating carrots and regardless it's a very dressed up bougie delicious carrot plate ! Mmmm . One of my faves out of the snacks. 2. Narragansett Creamery Burrata: green strawberry, speck, basil. Creamy, vibrant and just delicious Pasta: only had room in our tummies for 1 but every year we try different pastas and never disappoints. This year no exception. Maltagliati- hopkins southdowns lamb sugo, swiss chard, harissa, umbrian chickpea. Excellent! Pasta was perfect texture and consistency!! Little touch of spice from harissa which I loved (not overpowering). The Swiss chard was cooked to a crispy texture which I loved. I was a bit nervous about the lamb because it really can vary from place to place. However, I should have known better being from here they cooked/braised it to perfection: melt in your mouth type of soft and no weird or gamey taste. Definitely delicious pasta I recommend. Plates: 1. Duck Leg Confit- japanese turnip, spigariello kale, huckleberry conserva, duck jus. Personally my faves of the two plates but both delicious. The crispy skin from the duck and tender flavorful duck meat was just to die for. Loooooved. Plus the turnips and the amazing huckleberry conserva! Thinking about it makes my mouth water. So so good. 2. Beef Short Rib-swiss chard erbazzone, sunchoke, hazelnut. Loved it. Tasty as expected. Great flavor and tender. Dessert: 1. Olive Oil Cake- strawberry, rosé, lime curd, basil gelato. Wow! Oh wow! I'm so happy this time around they have some cake options. I love olive oil cake and now to pair with a basil gelato sounds insane right? Holy cow! Soooo good! Not what I was expecting. Strawberry, rose, lime and basil gelato flavor all work well together in this dessert. My fave dessert of the night! TRY IT! 2. Cookies N' cream: narragansett creamery ricotta, chocolate biscotti- yummy! Tasted like an elevated cookies and cream ! We loved our experience! Hopefully when you visit here, you can enjoy it as much as we do year after year. I absolutely love this place. Food is beyond excellent and is a place you have to stop by and visit while in Newport.

We sat in the Conservatory and I loved being surrounded by lush foliage and clean black and white stripe decor. On to the food--- This is not a drill. Do not skip the raw oysters. The mignonette - excellent! They were the best of the weekend (and we have had quite a bit) Our server Tiffany was attentive and made excellent suggestions. We ordered crab toast as well and it was very very good. Then followed with a Caesar salad and clam chowder to share. I couldn't decide between little neck clams and the rabbit tagliatelle and she brought the clams as a surprise. They were HANDS DOWN the best I've ever had. She really made my night. The pasta was also incredible. My selections were favorites of the table. A dinner companion ordered a steak but it was a little over cooked but the manager Rory went above and beyond taking care of us. I'm not sure what they do to make the most perfect French fries but hands down I've never had one like this. Figure out a way to order them. The Can't Elope cocktail was the best I had in Newport. It was balanced, refreshing and all around perfection. We also loved the Paper Tiger! Finished with a sticky toffee pudding that was a star of the meal. Nestled in the Wharf, it was a cute little place with both an up and downstairs. We reserved a spot for around 5:30 (in April) and it was pretty open. There weren't too customers yet, and it was nice and quiet. If you're looking for a ton of space for the seating area, I will say that there isn't too much room/it's pretty nice and cozy! At Wharf Southern Kitchen and Whiskey Bar, they've got a line of booths along the wall, a bar area right in the center and at the actual bar, a high top, another bar at one of the entrances, and a table that seats six. Now let's chat about the service. Our waitress was wonderful, patient, and was extremely helpful when asked questions and also gave SUCH wonderful suggestions. There were MANY fantastic choices on their menu and I was having a pretty difficult time narrowing down which one I really wanted, but with our waitress's help, I was able to choose pretty quickly (and they were AMAZING choices!) Now the food! The wait for the food honestly wasn't that long, and when we got it, we ABSOLUTELY CHOWED... -The Crispy Chicken Bites were AMAZING! I ended up upgrading to the Buffalo Style, and it DID NOT disappoint at all! The Bleu Cheese crumbles were just the perfect amount, and the Buffalo sauce was JUST enough to still enjoy the crispiness of the chicken. I DID ask for ranch on the side, and that just was *chef's kiss*! -I've never had fried pickles before, but I certainly have never seen a restaurant do it with whole pickles. Though it was my first time trying fried pickles, it tasted great! I wouldn't say it's anything special, but it's a great, and lighter on the fried side, appetizer! -I was having a hard time choosing what entree to enjoy, but I'M SOOOO glad that I went with the Smoked Brisket Chopped Cheese! I'm not a big brisket girl, but I will say that this was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! At first when it came out on the bun, I was a little skeptical of how it would taste, but it definitely didn't disappoint! The brisket was cooked SO well with the perfect amount of seasoning, and it all just melted so perfectly together as I was eating it. And the tater tots were SO AMAZING (though on the saltier side) and SO perfectly crispy. I've only got great things to say about Wharf Southern Kitchen & Whiskey Bar & I WILL be back here/will suggest it to my friends visiting Newport one day!
