Kale salad, roast carrots and chicken
    Jennifer R.

We happened to pass this restaurant while looking for a place to grab lunch. It wasn't busy at all but I find it surprising because the food is good, healthy and fairly priced. It also has indoor and outdoor seating. For $10 plus tax I got a meal with chicken, kale salad and roasted carrots. It was the perfect meal after days of unhealthy eating while traveling.

Dirty table. Had to ask staff to clean it.

I'd never heard of this place before, but my family had been here and wanted to go. It's one of those build-your-own bowl spots, good if you're looking for something quick and on the healthier side. The place was completely empty when we walked in. I picked a few items, and overall it was just okay. Everything is already cooked and kept under heat lamps, but the food wasn't very warm. The glazed carrots were probably the best thing, they had good flavor. The BBQ pork, though, was dry and definitely needed more sauce (which they just drizzled on top). The tables were dirty, which didn't make sense since we were literally the only ones dining in. We ended up having to ask someone to clean ours because it was pretty gross. The staff just seemed kind of idle and uninterested. When I asked for a side of BBQ sauce to-go, the girl told me they didn't have cups for it even though I saw another worker filling hot sauce cups the entire time we were there. After I mentioned it, she finally gave me one. Overall, the staff wasn't friendly or welcoming, and everyone seemed like they didn't want to be there. I wouldn't come back. There's other dining establishments next door like Chipotle and Chick Fil A

DIG Family Dinner - Build Your Own

Oh man, Dig brings back memories! I used to come here all the time whenever I would go into the city to do some shopping. I enjoy getting their build your own bowl option! What I typically order: BASE: couscous PROTEIN: charred chicken SIDES: cheesy cauliflower, jasper hill Mac & cheese, avocado (occasionally), roasted mushrooms (if they have it), sheet tray carrots, & garlic aioli on the side. It's a very filling meal & tasty! Can be a bit bland but salt does the trick. I'd rather it be lacking salt than overly salted. Definitely one of my favorite places to go to in the area that is quick & not Chipotle, Sweetgreen's, or CAVA. Everything is locally sourced & seasonal, which I thought was pretty cool. My bowls usually end up being around $14-16, depending on what I get. Great spot to hit up if you're looking for casual healthy-ish comfort food ;)

Chicken dig plate with broccoli and sweet potato

A fast casual spot where you can make your own grain or salad bowl. The selection isn't numerous but does its job. We enjoyed the chicken dig bowl (chicken not too dry) though the sweet potato was a bit burned and the broccoli was cut in huge pieces, and the veggie bowl with Brussels sprouts (bit spicy), broccoli and avocado hit the spot. I wasn't impressed by the freshness of the ingredients but it was fine. It was very quiet on a Saturday early afternoon, with no other customers at the time of ordering. I think this is a solid choice if you're in that area (about a half mile from the convention center).

I love DIG and wish they had locations in California! It's the perfect quick lunch spot and there really isn't another chain like them. I like the Chipotle/Cava style ordering process but with protein, veggies and other healthy sides. When I lived in Boston this place was in my weekly lunchtime rotation. I typically would get the chicken, sweet potato and some sort of veggie, but I've tried most of their sides and protein options and have never disliked anything. Their mac and cheese is also really good if you're looking for a savory treat. The Boylston location is very clean with enough seating inside and on the front patio. Even if it's busy the line always moves quickly too. A bowl with 2 sides will run you around $15 so neither insanely cheap nor expensive. Definitely recommend for lunch.

    Kale Caesar salad with salmon

I was looking for a place to get a healthy lunch. I saw the pictures of the kale Caesar salad in the reviews, and that sold me. My salad was really tasty! Very colorful, flavorful, and reasonably priced. I left with an empty bowl, feeling full but comfortable. As for the employees, the one who took my order didn't return my smile or hello. I told her I had a few questions because I hadn't been there before. No one was behind me in line. Her flat expression said it all. She didn't appear to want to be bothered with questions. On top of that, the music was so loud both of us had to ask the other to repeat a few times. There were 4 employees just kind of pacing behind the counter, and not one of them looked like they wanted to be there. The employee who added my protein was about as personable as the first. No response to my thank yous. No "have a good day." I'm not sure why I even left a tip, to be honest. A few times while I ate, I didn't see the staff smile at one another, chat, or otherwise interact unless they had to. They were all quiet, expressionless zombies. And it wasn't even busy. It wasn't UNTIL I saw who was looked like a supervisor walk through (tall, bald man with tattoos) that the staff all livened up, and I saw a few smiles. I'd definitely come here again for the healthy choices, but I hope the employees will be a little more friendly next time. It's not asking too much to expect the most basic of customer service skills when you're being a polite, friendly customer.

    BYO Bowl, Grilled Chicken

I've considered trying DIG for a while now as I'm a huge fan of the "walk the line" kinds of places. Overall, it's not horrible, but I'd recommend going to CAVA down Boylston St instead. Very overpriced for a bowl with limited toppings and a seltzer water-- $18. Also, not many veggie toppings aside from the base selection, which I didn't know until I passed it and it was too late to go back :/ much better bang for your buck at CAVA, and a much bigger selection. I got a bowl with grilled chicken, salad, brown rice, and mac. I would've loved having more veggie options, but there is a very limited amount of toppings allowed here and I wasn't aware of that until I passed the vegetables. The bulk of the vegetables are the bases, which I didn't realize you could get and the staff didn't make that clear. There is a lot of potential here, but it's just not getting there. Flavor wise: the rice was probably the best part and cooked well. The mac was okay, I see the potential, but it honestly reminded me of cafeteria macaroni and cheese from my elementary school. The pasta wasn't great quality, but the breeding was tasty. The chicken was flavorful, but it had some fatty parts that I had to disregard. The salad was so-so, the ingredients didn't seem the freshest, and the dressing that came with it was bland. The hot honey was a good complement to the dish, though. The service was so-so. The crew was welcoming in the beginning of the line, especially when I told them I was new to DIG, but grew frustrated when I didn't know what ingredients were offered and they didn't care much to explain the process to me. Noteworthy, it was not very crowded when I came in. I also had no idea what the sauces were, and the sauce containers are tiny! All of this for $18? Plainly not worth it.

tofu, broccoli, cannellini beans, kale cashew caesar
    Grace X.

Food is absolutely delicious. Tons of vegan options to choose from! The seasonal sides are not allergen labelled in the restaurant, but are clearly labelled on the website. I had a bowl with tofu, kale cashew caesar, broccoli, and cannelini beans. Everything was really tasty, ESPECIALLY the kale cashew caesar salad, highly highly recommend. I also noticed as I walked out that students get 10% off by showing their ID! Missed my chance this time but will definitely take advantage of this in the future. Also love that they do seasonal sides instead of a static menu- can't wait to see what they have planned for the rest of the year!

    Chicken bowl with grilled asparagus

It was a healthy choice for lunch. This place feels like a cross between Chipotle and Urban Plate. The hot protein and hot vegetable options are nice. The portion size could be a little larger compared to Chipotle or Cava but overall it was a good experience.

Custom bowl: brown rice, sweet potatoes, broccoli, charred chicken, garlic aioli
    Erin O.

I came here thinking this would be another CAVA or Sweetgreen and this was not the case. DIG definitely puts themselves on a different pedestal with the emphasis of their custom bowl creations and menu items. It feels almost like a Whole Foods open-bar situation, which I'm not opposed to. After looking through the menu for awhile, I decided to order a custom bowl with brown rice, sweet potatoes and broccoli (which were HUGE), charred chicken, and garlic aioli. The portions were pretty good for the price of $11, and it was perfect on-the-go. My biggest complaint, and the reason I didn't rate my experience higher, was the service. We were the only customers in line but the 2-3 staff members paid us no attention for several minutes as they were attending online orders. Once we were being served, it felt like they were trying to get us out of there as soon as possible.

Salty Pig Pizza: A pizza with the same name as the restaurant! Who was the genius who came up with the idea of salted pig and beer caramel? It's brilliant! The salted pork appears to include Prosciutto di Parma from Langirano, Prosciutto Cotto, and Salcissia. Baking rendered the prosciutto's fat, which blends with the caramel to create a beautiful golden syrup that flows across the pizza's surface. The prosciutto was savory, oily, and tender; the minced salcissia retains its coarse texture and rich meaty aroma; the caramel was sweet and mellow with a honey-like sweetness, forming the top, middle, and base notes respectively. The arugula was slightly warmed, losing its astringent and raw taste while maintaining its crisp texture, helped to cut through the richness together with the Parmesan cheese powder. The crust was crispy, while the inside the dough was soft and chewy. The cooking time and seasoning were all just right, and the restaurant's proud wooden oven added a charming smoky flavor. Affogato: I had high expectations, but it was just okay. The espresso was too sour, and the vanilla ice cream couldn't balance it out. The almond biscuits had an overpowering almond flavor, and the flavor of plant-based protein was terrible! (Oh, this should have been a plus...)
