I doordashed DIG yesterday, wanting food asap but not wanting to feel icky after eating the usual heavy comfort junk, and it arrived a little earlier than estimated, warm, and good!! I got a custom bowl with herb chicken, garlic broccoli, and the pan roasted carrots. (I can't remember the exact names for these items, so if they're a bit off from the ones on the menu, that's why.) Okay, fine, if I must admit it, I couldn't go completely without my beloved comfort junk, and I also ordered a separate side of the jalapeño honey (I think that was what it's called? maybe habanero) mac and cheese, since I opted to forego a carb base in the bowl), and it was yummy, though I ate it with sriracha instead of the sauce it came with. (The sauce was a bit sweet for me.) It was good, though! I ate about half of everything and have leftovers for today. DIG's menu is inspiring. Now if only I could harness the willpower to meal prep these dishes myself! Until then, thankfully, there's DIG. read more

I love Dig and especially appreciate that they stay open during the pandemic. I don't cook so I get all my meals take out or delivered. Dig is just around the corner and I can eat healthy vegan food whenever I want. The staff are super nice, whenever I bring my dog inside to pick up my take out they say hi to my dog too! read more

They make veggies taste good. I was able to score mealpal here 3 times this week (it's always sold out). I've actually never had it before, but what I tried was all very good. They make the bowl fresh on the spot for you. It never takes long. Staff all very friendly. I was able to try over three days, the roasted vegetable bowl, chicken Caesar bowl, and classic chicken bowls. Each bowl had either rice or farro, two or three veggies and a protein and a sauce. Every veggie I tried was steamed and seasoned to perfection. I think the sweet potato also had some nice cinnamon sugar on it. The chicken Caesar bowl was the best. The chicken was extremely moist and tender and the sauce was spectacular. On one day I bought an extra roasted veggie bowl and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was super cheesy and they put just the right amount of extra breadcrumbs to get some in every bite. Nicely done. I am a little sad I couldn't nail down a meatball bowl for Friday, but I will be back to try more bowl combinations. read more

This location is one of the bigger ones I've been to and wanted to come here after a great food experience with the Tribeca location. Arrived fairly early and the lines weren't that long for lunch yet. I got a brown rice bowl with herb roasted chicken, carrots and kale salad. I asked for charred chicken and got herb roasted instead but that's okay because I like both and it's always so hard to pick. The carrots were good but some pieces were completely charred and burnt. The kale salad is one of my favorites so you can't go wrong with it. The dressing is delightful. I feel good every time I eat at Dig Inn. read more

I went to Dig Inn on 23rd street tonight for dinner. I wanted to give it a higher rating but my meal tonight didn't warrant more stars. I arrived around 5:30 and it wasn't busy, there was just one other person in line behind me, but I felt rushed throughout the entire experience. The man behind the counter was annoyed when I asked about the ingredients in the cauliflower because I was holding up the one person behind me. I even offered for them to go ahead of me but he ignored this. I think the assembly line setup is a good idea in principle, but I always feel pressured to order quickly when I go to Dig Inn and that negatively impacts my experience. Ordered: Farmer's favorite market bowl ($9.19) with- Farm greens with mint- fresh mesclun mix with herbs and a light dressing. I like choosing this option instead of a grain. Sautéed broccoli with lemon- to be honest, I couldn't detect the lemon at all but the broccoli was nicely charred and well seasoned otherwise (olive oil, salt, pepper). My one complaint was that the broccoli wasn't cooked through, but I realize this may have been intentional. This was still my favorite veggie option tonight. Midnight cauliflower- this roasted cauliflower was served cold and apparently had a charred onion vinaigrette but I couldn't taste it. Jasper hill mac and cheese- I like how Dig Inn used whole wheat pasta in the mac and cheese. This added a nice nutty taste and made me feel less guilty about eating something so indulgent. It was creamy and had a nice crunch of breadcrumbs on top, however, the cheese flavor was too mellow for my liking. Like others have noted in their reviews, I preferred the containers Dig Inn used previously. They had compartments for each item. I may give Dig Inn another try sometime but it likely will not be my first choice because of my experience there. read more

Turns out nobody else was able to place the last minute lunch order for Wednesday. No problem, I can take care of it (so I thought). Went on the user-friendly website, punched in address, picked the size of what we needed (about 12, more than 10, less than 18, you're kinda stuck in the middle for "catering", probably a good pricing strategy, I digress). Picked some things that looked delicious, checked out, and we're good.... Welllll, not really. Tip: You can't order for day-of online, even though I was putting in an order for almost two hours before when I needed it for that day. Ended up calling the restaurant, they apologized they couldn't accommodate that days request, and we ended up finding a different time that worked for all. This all was the fifth star. Please think about ordering at least a day in advance for any group orders! What earned them four starts was the INCREDIBLE food. We had the roasted chicken bowl and the meat ball bowl. The chicken d1sh pictured on the site had about 12 slices of chicken but the bowl delivered had about 3 or 4 pieces. While the chicken bowl could survive with the cold side dishes the meatball bowl suffered. I had a tiny half of a Haas avocado and a decent portion of cold roasted beets with horseradish. The meatballs were not too bad and the beets were the best part of the dish. As I said, the hot meatballs were not a good pairing with the chilled sides. I had thought that the sides would have been in separate containers since they were cold. With a dish with hot meatballs with hot marinara sauce there should have been some hot sides if they were to be put in the same bowl. . read more

Used to love coming here, but looks like it's gone downhill. The "slaw" had no dressing and was wilted, it was inedible. It looked like "slaw" but was really just dry, wilted cabbage. I've been digging Dig Inn for a while now.. my colleagues were raving about this place. Now I'm hooked. I decided to stop in rather than order online. Really cool inside and was lucky the place wasn't mobbed. Very nice establishment with plenty of seats, airy and soft lighting. It looks like a very cool cafeteria. You simply stand in line and happy personnel take your order. You start off with the base of your bowl like faro or spring greens with mint. Then add a protein: my favorite charred chicken or meatballs if you like and then add two sides. I always get sweet potato and string beans. I loved their roasted carrots with harissa but sad to see not on menu. There are other delectable like sweet treats and such. Then you pay and get your meal packed in a pink bag. If you order online there is a pick up station. All in all a very pleasant and organized establishment. I will definitely make time to dine in in the future. read more

The vast amount of choices you can mix into your bowl are very enticing and leave you wanting to try them all. I have to admit, their Jasper Hill Mac & Cheese is a weakness of mine because of the perfectly baked cheesy goodness with a bread crumb crust. If you ever have an issue choosing a side, opt for the Mac & Cheese. Every bite is heavenly. The Salmon has always been perfectly cooked and when paired with their House Made Sriracha, the flavor intensifies. I almost always opt for the Sautéed Broccoli where the lemon brings out a light citrusy flavor and makes the side highly addictive. Recently, the marketbowls have had price adjustments but the quality that you are paying for is still second to none. Not sure why it's taken me a year of living in NYC to finally try Dig but I finally did and I sure am glad I did! I stopped in on Saturday night to pick up something quick but also wanted something kinda/sorta healthy and filling. So I thought this would do the trick. It was so quick to order my food. I got the build your own bowl with a base of greens, meatballs, cashew kale Caesar and Mac and cheese. It was all so delicious. The meatballs were cooked perfectly. Not dried out and very flavorful. The cashew kale was absolutely perfect! So fresh and I love the addition of the cashews. The Mac and cheese (although not healthy) is delectable. So cheesy, just creamy enough and topped with the perfect amount of breadcrumbs. I could have made this into two meals, but I was so hungry I ate all of it. I would come back just for a bowl of the Mac if anything. There are so many other options that looked amazing as well (sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts). I'll be stopping back here no doubt. I've got to admit, I wasn't into Dig Inn the first time I had it. Perhaps the 17th St location isn't as well-run as this one. Perhaps they had an off day. Perhaps, in the three years that've passed since that first fateful day, I've gained an appreciation for healthier meals. Perhaps I've said perhaps too many times. All I know is that now, when my co-workers offer up Dig Inn as a lunch option, I'm down. They've got large portions of real food, and they serve them up quickly for an affordable price. I've had the steak. I've had the chicken. I've had the salmon. And they are all pretty solid. But believe me when I tell you that the balls are the best. I really wanted to try this place for a long time, my coworker ordered lunch for the staff. I was eating it and enjoying it but when I was halfway through I identified some sort of large bug in the food. I was shocked that a bug that large could have ended up in the food unnoticed. I would never eat from here again. My coworker did get refunded for the order but if a bug that size got in there unnoticed, who knows what else could be in there. read more

Soooooo delicious! I had a great experience at Dig Inn today. I didn't really understand their concept, probably due to my own stupidity, but the employees were so helpful and patient. A very glib definition of DI would be a high end per the pound hot buffet but instead of gross customers slobbering all of the food, it's served to you by lovely staff. They offer salmon, steak, chicken and tofu as proteins and a bunch of fancy sides. Everything is prepared is a unique shee-shee way. Like the cauliflower for instance, has raisins. But it's delicious raisin-cauliflower. They charge $1 for tap water, but it's ginger infused. I mean.... I guess. Today, my flagship visit, I opted for flank steak, farro, sautéed kale and sweet potatoes with aioli. Everything was sooooo delicious! It was so much food - total gourmet style, for $13 measly dollars. The seating was ample, the restrooms were clean, the service was warm and the food was excellent. I've heard so many good things about this place, but I really did not like this order. The chicken was a tiny bit under cooked with hard pieces of I guess tendon in it. The rice has some hard rice pieces and the broccoli was charred but over cooked and taste was super bitter. It's hard to get sweat potato wrong but the char was a bit much on mine. The char on the cauliflower was too much too. Just all around not great experience. Now I have to order dinner some where else and my appetite is not fully there. Oh well. Now I know. Only gave it a 1 because I was still able to consume it. Have to be grateful in this world for food. Plus the delivery man was nice and it came warm. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Digg Inn before now, I've been coming here for a few years. I don't go all the time but I'm always pleased when I do. I love how they have seasonal ingredients and you can mix and match them! The flavors are always great. The only downside is that you don't know what they will have so if there aren't many choices you like you might be unhappy. I'm a pretty flexible eater so I'm usually fine with whatever. I always go for the small veggie option here because at 6.50 it's such a good deal! You get a base and 3 large sides. Today I got the farro/barley blend and some greens, then Mac and cheese, roasted sweet potatoes, and carrots for the sides. The aioli on the potatoes was so good!! Mac and cheese is delicious too. My only complaint today was the lack of vegetarian proteins. Usually it seems like they have some kind of lentil or bean side, but not today. I almost got the tofu but it wouldn't have been the cheap veggie order because they include that under the meats/proteins I guess. Anyways, there was so much food that I got filled up quickly and couldn't even finish it. A bit carb heavy but the flavors were awesome. After gaining "I don't want to know" lbs since my wedding (eating the same portion as your husband is a big no no), I decided to start off the new year with new eating approach - no meats, no sweets for 30 days. Instead of the usual carb heavy brunch I had been overindulging in the city, I stopped in for their market veggie plate (small for only $6!) which came with one base plus three sides. I opted for their Farro with butternut squash as my base, curried kale and chickpeas, tahini squash salad, and roasted Brussels sprouts as my sides. Although I went with the small - I found the portion to be just right! Not only was it filling, it was soooo satisfying to my tastebuds! Every component of my veggie plate was spot on! I'm a fanatic for anything butternut squash/Brussels sprouts - it felt as if all of the veggie options were created just for me! So in my original review I mentioned that I love getting their market plate, but they've made some changes to their options since then so I thought it was worth an update. Now you pretty much only have the option to put everything in one bowl. Not a huge deal, but keep in mind that everything will be just in there together instead of separated in sections, so it may affect the sides you want to choose. For example, I just don't think it sounds tasty to have a salad, rice, and mac and cheese all mixed together in one bowl. My usual combo is the salmon, roasted sweet potatoes, and the vegan kale Caesar (love the cashews in lieu of regular croutons). I like the pesto sauce on top of the salmon and I ask for a side of the tofu aioli as well, which is wonderful for the sweet potatoes. I have noticed that they've started cooking the salmon a lot more than they used to (health dept rules maybe?), and I typically like a pinker, rarer salmon so that's a downgrade for me. I think the move to just bowls has made the line go quicker, though, which is probably why they made this change in the first place, which is a bonus. It's still definitely one of my more frequently visited lunch spots in the area as it's relatively healthy, under $15 for a big hearty lunch, and nice and warm on a cold day when a salad just won't do. read more
