Omg. So today I went to my dentist appointment near Rockefeller Center so naturally I stopped to see the tree after my appointment. On my way back to walking to my boyfriend's restaurant I wanted to pick him something up for lunch to eat. Saw this place from across the street and loved the name because we're obsessed with any Mediterranean food. Wasn't really expecting anything superb from a QSR spot but boy was I wrong. Ordered the chicken orzo soup for my boyfriend and he said it was SUPER FLAVORFUL! And then I got warm pita with hummus and they added this incredible green zhoug oil sauce over it which was flippin delectable. Spread it all over my body and call it a day! Don't confuse this place with a bleehhhhh spot like Panera Bread -- it's not the same! It's on another level for a quick service casual spot. Service was great. Chatted 6 feet apart with the cashier who was a very sweet girl. Everyone was wearing gloves and masks (over the nose too, much appreciated). Pricing is decent as well. Dill & Parsley "natural Mediterranean" has opened a small lunch spot on the northeast corner of 49th and Madison. The entrance is on 49th, after the Starbucks, NOT on Madison, and its a tiny little clean space. This makes it ideal for grab and go versus staying in. There are seats for about 15, but the line is so overwhelming for the space that it doesn't feel comfortable eating in during prime lunch hour. This location is brand new and would be nice to eat in if you're very early or very late. The line at 12:30 pm looked very long, but took less than 10 minutes. There are plenty of Mediterranean options in the area, such as Naya, GRK, Roti, and Mimi's Hummus, not to mention the prolific Rafiqi's carts if you count halal as a similar option. Similar to Naya and Roti, the set up is Chipotle style, where you select your vehicle for deliciousness and pick and choose add on's as you go down the steam table. In this case, you select your bowl size (which determines how many bases or salads you can have), and your protein, then add a sauce. The options are very vegetable friendly and there's a lot of variety, most similar to a Roti. The menu is clearly labeled for nut allergies, vegan options, and gluten sensitivities. I went with a half beef tawa half doner classic basebowl (the medium size) and added eggplant, shepherds salad (tomato, onion, cucumber), hummus, and kale salad. I forgot to add a pita (Why is bread not included as a default? Do Midtown people not like carbs? Who are you people??). The menu is definitely a little confusing, as its unclear what you can add to your bowl to count to your bases/sides/salads. I liked the beef doner and tawa although both were a bit dry. I would try the chicken next. The hummus is solid and the kale/beet salad is crisp and refreshing. The shepherd salad and eggplant were good, but very wet. I really wish I had bread. Price point to portion size is excellent. A base bowl cost me $11 and change as of fall 2017 and there was definitely enough food. The vegetables are not cheap or skimpy, so you do feel like you're getting a good quality lunch, plenty of protein and fiber, and very tasty options. Minus one star for the packaging and liquid resistance. The basebowl is a compostable clamshell. Yay for being green. Nay for the half cup of liquid that decided to spill out on my dry clean dress and shoes while i was trying to juggle my building pass and my lunch. I guess they could make the shepards salad and eggplant less watery and it would help, but now I smell like onion for the rest of the day. Boo. read more

I had the Beef tava and portobello bowl complete with shepard, red lentil and superfood salad. Everything was earthy, sweet and sour, and crisp. The spicy marash sauce was so strong, like a jolt to the senses- a wake up that I welcomed. My favorite was the red lentil salad which was like a yellow creamy tapioca pudding. Aside from all the dressings mixing and creating a very wet slurry, I enjoyed it all. The pillowy wheat pita and springy, marinaded portobellos not unlike perfectly cooked squid are a close second. Guys, learn from my mistakes. Don't order the superfood salad ($8). Unless you reaaaaally like cabbage and raw brussels sprouts. I thought maybe there would be lettuce involved? In all seriousness though, Dill & Parsley is a solid Midtown lunch concept. They just really need to work on the execution. I'm not a mushroom person, but their grilled portobellos are tender and flavorful. I just don't order them often because the portion is so small. On the contrary, they've given a huge amount whenever I've opted for meat. When the pitas are fresh they're soft and fluffy, but more often than not they arrive stale. Also not a fan of how they pile everything on top since a) the rice ends up soggy b) the flavors don't mesh well. On the plus side, delivery is always on time which makes them a reliable option during the lunch rush. They're very generous with the amount of chicken given, the very hot pickled peppers are amazing, the light yogurt sauce is great, and all of their sides are solid, especially the hummus and the mashed lentils, which look and taste very similar to squash. I was very impressed and satisfied with my first visit to Dill & Parsley. It is a block up from my job and was a solid alternative to the usual lunch options. It is basically Mediterranean Chipotle. I went with a rice bowl with lamb, lentils, eggplant, hummus, kale and beets, and a few other things. It was fresh, tasty, and best of all, healthy. Good place for a lunch in midtown Manhattan. Fresh ingredients, large selection of food, but you gotta be careful with what you ask for! For instance, me, I had the shredded beef with hummus, tomatoes, zucchinis, and small potatoes. It cost me about $11, which I find a good deal for this size, quality, and location. My girlfriend, however, ordered the mini-bowl, which we both find kind of ridiculous: it is very small, they only put a very small share of the ingredients you asked for--make no mistakes, we are no cheap but she had to ask them at least three separate times for a normal portion otherwise the mini-bowl would have ended into a mini-mini-bowl! The "pita pocket" (a shawarma sandwich) is better than the bowl and 2 or 3 dollars cheaper. You get a choice of meat (I like chicken), spread and sauce. They toast the pita so it is warm and toasty. You can get a shawarma for cheaper at a cart around the block but this is better. The pita is also very big. The only issue with ordering the pita is that it's always busy there for lunch and everyone else orders the bowl so they only have one guy doing the pitas and it takes much longer. I love the other location on 3rd but was highly disappointed with this one due to horrible service. I tried to grab lunch right at the opening bell but was told many line items still had to be prepared and it "would take some more time" and this was said dismissively as if the attendant would rather not be there. I decided to wait a "few minutes" and a couple arrived behind me and the estimate was revised to "30 minutes". All three people, the couple and myself left to eat elsewhere - a direct loss of revenue attributable to the unprepared staff. Came here twice already for lunch as it's the next closest place around my work, it's always so painful to walk out and get lunch when it's freezing outside. First time here... the line moved very fast, the staff was efficient and friendly. My lunch was delicious!

I stop in here twice a week. The food is really really good, but what's equally impressive is that the people there know about the food they serve. When it's not rush hour, I've seen the employees spend a significant amount of time explaining what the different foods were and even try to explain what it tastes like (especially the guy with the bandana). Everyone who works there has been noticeably friendly. I get a mini bowl and an iced tea for under 10 bucks, and it's plenty for lunch. Highly recommend. read more

You really get a nice-sized serving in a large bowl, with lots of what they call "base" items to choose from, including egg plant and veggies.
