We discovered this deli a year ago- on our way up the 5 to Oregon. The sandwiches and service was amazing. However, when we went there yesterday (in 2020), NOBODY working there was wearing a mask or gloves and they were ~3 inches from each other. It was a bit surreal. Additionally, they had a Recall Newsom signature table by the bathrooms along with a support the thin blue line table to donate- so the no mask wearing quickly became a political stance- vs the REALITY of being in a global pandemic. The cashier was super friendly, and the sandwiches were so good- but I will not be returning with NO employee wearing a mask and standing 2 inches from each other sweating it up while making the food. read more

My hotel is next door and I noticed smoke coming out of an outdoor bbq and decided to stop by. I had the tri-tip Ortega melt. Sourdough roll was fresh, melted pepper jack cheese, and some delicious green chilles. The spicy ranch was too watery and they overdid it. Get the ranch on the side! I used to eat here at least 3 times a week. The company I work for would order 350-400$ worth of food for our lunches every other month or so. We ordered 30+ sandwiches and I found a bug in mine. When Dills was notified they offered to replace one sandwich out of the entire order, or give us a free one next time. I feel like that was downright disrespectful considering how much, I personally, and the company I work for, used to spend there. One sandwich? That's it? I almost ate that bug. Arrived around 1 pm and was promptly waited on at cash register. During this time I saw the employees gathered around chatting. My order was taken for a basic turkey sandwich. 3 employees were at the sandwich bar. I saw them immediately start making sandwiches that I thought one was mine. The 3 sandwiches they were making were walked into the back room. This left no one at the sandwich bar. I heard chatter and Xmas Carol singing in the back. I realized now that 3- 5 minutes and no sandwich. One employee came out and started making a sandwich. I thought this one is mine. Nope, went to the back room. I'm now getting frustrated as I see employees eating in the back. Another employee came out and looked at the order still waiting. She emeadiatly started making a sandwich. She was definitely taking a very slow pace at the process. Yes, it was my sandwich. Frustrating that this was taking place and took 15 minutes + for a sandwich. We stopped here on our way up to Oregon from the Bay Area, and I'm very glad we did. We hadn't eaten all day and were looking for something filling for the drive, and we found it! I had the Dirty Pig and my girlfriend had the French Dip. The French Dip was nothing too special, but still delicious. The Dirty Pig on the other hand was amazing. The bacon was some of the best I've ever had, and the name really does this sandwich justice - I felt like a dirty pig eating it, and that's a compliment! It was hard not to make a mess, but it was worth it. Both sandwiches came with an excellent pickle - cold, crisp, and salty. I've seen some reviews mention feeling uncomfortable in this deli due to being a minority. I won't deny that I felt some stares, but this says nothing about the deli itself. Please don't let this stop you from trying their great sandwiches! I'm looking forward to my next visit, and I'll definitely make sure to stop by on my next roadtrip north. read more

Although customers stared like they had never seen a non-white person before when we entered, the service was fine but the customers continued to leer like we disrupted their lunch. As Leanne M's Yelp review on 6/19/2017 also states, minorities might want to avoid this place. Perhaps it would have been appropriate to have ordered their "Dirty Bird" sandwich. Instead, we ordered a pulled pork sandwich and "The Kidd" sandwich. The pulled pork sandwich came with a generous amount of meat. My girlfriend found the white BBQ sauce lacking tang or spice and desired a traditional sauce, but I didn't share her issue. With Ortega chilis and melted pepper jack cheese, "The Kidd" wasn't too spicy and combined nicely with the smoked beef tri-tip. This sandwich has less meat than the pork sub but still had plenty of meat. They have plenty of different types of sandwiches on the menu including salads and different BBQ combo plates. As far as the macaroni salad is concerned, it's good! I wouldn't say fantastic but definitely good, and you get plenty of it. Now for the sandwich... EXCELLENT!!! This was a very well made sandwich. Comes with smoked pork loin, bacon, cheddar, this dirty mayo that is "out of bounds" and I scratched the pickles but kept the onions. All of this goodness on a true sourdough roll. Let me start by saying I'm sure they are great people that own and run this place. I had zero issue with anything Other than the food itself and particularly the sides. The star of my meal was the tri-tip, which on its own I'd provide a 4 stars. I was staying at the hotel I was staying across the way and a 400ft walk so it was way too convenient for me to go elsewhere for dinner while out of town for a work trip. They offer online ordering and so I placed the order and walked over to pick it up. As Fast courteous and easy as the process was I'd hoped for a bit better of a meal. I ordered a two meat combo dinner for 20$ very fair price and the proportions were quite generous. The two meats were pulled pork, and tri-tip. As stated above the TriTip was great juicy tender and I enjoyed it very much. The pulled pork was just meh... not much of a flavor profile and the included sauce didn't seem to have much flavor either. After smothering the pork it was only somewhat enjoyable. Again the portions were large and I had enough pulled pork in my meal for 2-3 people. Maybe I should not have had as high of expectations for the two sides that were included in the combo. I chose Cole slaw and potato salad. While I'm not a mustard based potato salad fan it can be fine from time to time. I'm addition to the mustard it also included an exorbitant amount of black olives. Pretty sure this was bought in bulk and not made in house. One big reason for the low score is my disapproval of the sides. The coleslaw was simply uneatable. Basic cabbage mix with the worst sauce/dressing I've ever had. I'm not sure how to explain how terrible the coleslaw was. Think store brand salad dressing I guess that is as close as I can describe. The roll which I believe there was supposed to be two not just one... was stale. Overall it being a deli I'd get a triTip sandwich there for sure or another sandwich but I'd forgo getting sides . read more
