We stay in Redding often on our way north. We have generally grabbed our dinner from Dill's Deli and enjoyed it immensely. As Shasta County grapples with rising COVID cases and remains in the Purple Tier, I was appalled when I went to pick up our take out order and find that they were serving dine in against orders, and that NONE OF THEIR EMPLOYEES WERE WEARING MASKS! None of the staff was wearing masks, and when I asked the cashier to wear one she said she didn't have a mask and couldn't wear one for "medical reasons." Well, we hopped off I5 to grab lunch. My sister ran in to grab a menu and they were full up, even though there's not supposed to be inside dining. Since we had my mother in the car, and she's in fragile health, she backpedalled out of there quickly. Most of the diners were without masks, as was everyone behind the counter. And the customers. I guess this is a haven for the Law and Order rebels, who just happen to obey all laws except the ones they don't like. Too bad, because I liked their food. Won't be back. Ever. Passing thru and husband remembered there was a deli here he used to go to when living in town. Names changed, but would recommend the food. Small, open place with enough tables to sit and eat. I was up in Redding for a class and decided to get dinner at Dills. I got the three meat combo with pulled pork, tri-tip, and ribs. The tri-tip was ok, but lacked a good crispy edge and was mediocre. After enjoying TX bbq in the past, I was hoping that their baked beans would have some variety - as in not just plain old beans - alas, they were not too adventurous in terms of originality. The cashier prepared and our salads with his bare hands without even sanitizing first. I came in at 7:30 p.m. and they only had pulled Pork and tri tip left, no chicken or ribs to be found.... the cashier suggested that the tri tip is the best anyway so I got a 2 meat combo and was looking forward to my meal. In my to meat combo I got pulled pork tri tip and 2 sides which were coleslaw and potato salad. The tri tip was dry, flavorless, and tough to chew or to cut with the steak knife. The pulled pork was juicy, tender, and too fatty. The potato salad lacked any seasoning that makes it stand out from any other grocery store deli. The coleslaw was chopped up fine, and was still crunchy, but the vinegar drowned out any hope for this side to my combo. I hope to try to visit again, but to try other items on their menu. read more

The food here really is great, but the service at the front counter is bad enough to warrant such a low score. The lady they have there is obviously super unhappy to be there taking your order, and it always makes it a very uncomfortable and awkward experience. I've tried to get past it, but it's just so consistent every time that it starts to get old. I'm starting to understand why most people opt to just fill out the custom sandwich cards, as it enables you to avoid the uncomfortable experience of ordering at the counter. Again, great food! We were really looking forward to this BBQ spot as it was a parking lot away from the Fairfield. 2 stars because the sides were EXCELLENT! Slaw, mac salad, beans and garden salad! The BBQ couldn't of been more MEH!!! And the BBQ sauce is a joke, straight ketchup, tasteless ribs and most importantly was the portion difference between my husbands meal and my own meal....See pictures! His tri tip meal- $15.99 My meal that I shared with my son- $18.99....first off, pricey for a deli, but good portions on the sides. Oh and check out the "garlic bread".....little bigger than a cracker and tasteless! If your going to eat here, do the 3 meat and nothing else or better yet save some $$$ and do the free social hour at the Fairfield and save the $$$! I've been coming here for years. My father used to come every week to meet with his retired buddies from work. They make great sandwiches! The bread is crusty, but not hard and their ingredients are always fresh. No brown lettuce here! The staff has always been great over the last 15 years I've been coming here. If you are a rabid vaxxer who fears for their life every time you don't have a mask covering your face when people are about, this might not be the place for you. We are frequent and forever Dill's locals. However we have encountered on more than one occasion some misses. This afternoon we ordered two orders of their two meat combo. They were already sold out of ribs and chicken, which is sometimes the case due to popularity, so it was two orders of the 2 meat combo of pulled pork and tri-tip; one with beans and slaw, the other with beans and potato salad. Upon arrival it turned out to be two orders of tritip and no pulled pork. Instead of the sides ordered it was two coleslaw. We toyed with the idea of just letting it go, but since we live a short distance away we gave them a call. They were most apologetic. Upon returning we were met at the door with the pulled pork and two more orders of slaw. We never did get the potato salad but that can just pass. They also completed our frequent customer card which was much appreciated. The whole gist of my review is that Dill's is a popular place and it is not uncommon for them to get slammed. But attention is needed on both sides of the counter. The order needs to be double checked going out and it's a good idea for you to make sure you're getting what you ordered. That's better than finding out when you open it in Mount Shasta. DIll's is still our number on choice. read more
