Came here to pick up dim sum after attending an appointment nearby. I was randomly craving for Char Siu Bao & conveniently found this place on yelp. While I was there, I decided to pick up dim sum for lunch & ended up ordering over $40 worth of food. Char Siu buns (OG & pineapple specialty) their specialty bun was so good and was the star of the show. I got both the specialty and the OG, and specialty wins by a mile. It was nice and crunchy while fluffy in the inside. I wished they added more fillings b/c it felt very minimal. Unfortunately, this was the only hi-light of our meal. Chicken Feet - tasteless & tough. Made the mistake of ordering 2 orders, and had to eat this for days. Pork Sui Mai - extremely fatty bc all your get is 20% "meat" and 80% pork fat - in chunks. I felt disgusted. My body felt disgusted. Deep fried meat balls - little to barely any fillings but as expected from everything else. Shrimp Rice Rolls - they didn't give us any sauce to go with this so... yeah, it was also tasteless and dry. Fried tofu w shrimp : I think they also forget to drizzle sauce on top bc everywhere else does it. It was tasty but dry. Stinky rice wrapped in lotus leaves: this was fine. If you're desperate for a cheaper dim sum meal, then I'd say sure, go for it. Otherwise, Sunnyvale has better dim sum restaurants that I most likely would not go back unless it's only for their pineapple specialty char shiu bun. read more

Really not the best quality dim sum out there but I like that it's a fast food/to-go dim sum place and you buy the items by piece instead of in threes or fours. Came by here during Sunday lunch and it was surprisingly packed! You have options to choose from in the window, lots of fried foods and your usual dim sum dishes like egg rolls, chive dumplings, shrimp dumplings. Prices for each piece is like $1.something. I ordered 8 pieces and my total came out to a little over $9. It's a little pricey for dim sum considering it's priced by the piece but I can't eat that much by myself and this place lets you try all the items you want without having a bunch of food left over. I definitely recommend the chive dumpling, it's super pungent so if you don't want to walk around with smelly breath, eat a mint! Cheap solid dim sum when you're having a craving! I ordered a variety of dim sum through DoorDash, and it did not disappoint. Although the shrimp dumplings are small, they are still pretty good! The skin is not too thick. My favorites are the shrimp and spinach (these are so plump!) and the veggie-taki dumplings. All of the dumpling skins were soft and chewy; yum! The radish cake is solid, as was the sticky rice in lotus leaf. They're not the best, but I think they're good for the prices. I would get this again -fried turnip cake: a pass on this one, this is usually one of my favorite dishes but this one was bland and far too heavy on the flour. Needed more radish for sure. -fried taro w/ pork: this one was ok! Really crunchy exterior and flavorful meat but bland taro -chive and shrimp dumpling: loved the filling. I tried Dim Sum King's hot and sour soup recently -- and am giving them 5 stars on that basis alone. As background, I love hot and sour soup -- so much that I used to make big pots of it, and give quarts away to friends and family for Christmas. I also keep white pepper and black vinegar around all year, and often add it to the hot and sour soup I get for take out -- because I frequently find the soup from Chinese restaurants is too mild and/or has only a slight hint of sourness. But Dim Sun King gets it right -- with great blend of spiciness, sourness and saltiness, and a good ratio of broth to other traditional ingredients (tofu, bamboo shoots, ginger, mushrooms, etc.) At least, they got it right when we tried it. (I've sadly known other restaurants to be inconsistent with their hot and sour soup recipes from night to night.) I'll definitely be back to Dim Sum King again -- hoping for a similarly good experience with the soup. read more

Tofu skin bean curd roll w oyster sauce - 4/5 better than some of the dim sum restaurants around the bay. Flavorful, packed with veggies that provided good textures at every bite. Shu Mai - 3.5/5 generous sized shumai, lots of shrimp and porky bits inside. Would order again. Ha gao - 1/5 this is the main reason why I took stars off. The shrimp filling was mushy inside, doesn't taste fresh due to the texture of the fillings. Won't order again even if I craved it real bad :( Pan fried turnip cake - 3/5 starchier than normal texture. Tasted like they used more rice flour than actual turnip. Fulfills one's cravings tho. Food was very tasty, in the steamed and baked BBQ buns the meat filling are substantial and not dry nor over sauced with hoisin's or bbq sauces. I would drive the 4 hours from Cambria to eat a half dozen easily. The fried shrimp balls were amazing , 99.99 shrimp filling and .01 egg white the shrimp flavor comes thru not dry in the least bit and filling !! 3 per order and less than $4 bucks, prices are very reasonable and the food is flavorful x 10, so don't miss out, there's soooo many good things to try, the sui mai, noodles, potstickers, custard tarts I could go on but really give this a try. Friendly staff, decent prices, relatively clean, and good sized portions. Even though Dim Sum King has been around for years, they haven't skimmed on their portion (it would be a shame if they did, and I would probably stop coming here). I love the dim sum to go concept. You can also mix and match different types of dim sum which is great. In addition to dim sum, there is a limited selection of entree dishes which are quite good, especially the beef stew, coconut curry chicken, and fish filet dishes. What I like the least is their fried rice and chow fun. Neither have much taste (though my kids really like their fried rice). If you get a rice / noodle, I highly recommend the chow fun. One other downside is that they often won't have food available, though I guess it means the food is also not sitting around all day. It's tough when you have a craving! My wife and I are avid dim sum eaters, typically on the weekend, usually after a night of drinking. Mayflower in Milpitas has been our go-to for a long time but the service has went downhill fast even prior to covid. It's not fun to constantly be ignored or to have to wave down a server as they are literally rolling by your table and then pay $100+. Sometimes you just want to order and eat! We knew we HAD to find a back up spot. Dim Sum King is not AS good as Mayflower BUT it will satisfy your craving and save you some money! The quality and portion of the food is not bad for the price. Even before covid there was not much if any seating at this restaurant, it seems to be a to go spot. I recommend ordering online and picking up because they can get very busy BUT if you order and wait there are more options aside from dim sum. Granted we haven't tried everything on the menu but what we typically order has been pretty good. We usually order: King's Feast (3 entrees & noodles/rice) Sesame chicken, chow fun, salt & pepper fish or chicken, vegetables 2 orders of har gaw 2 orders the Shrimp/Chive dumpling 1-2 orders shrimp pocket 1-2 orders shrimp balls 1 order fried sui mai egg tarts sesame balls We usually make it out of there spending $30-$45 which is not bad for all the food we order. I came today after seeing the chaos at the dim sum restaurants for mothers day. The line wasn't too long and there were lots of people taking orders. Nomnomnom I go here much more than I care to admit. But how can you complain when you can satisfy your dim sum cravings in a fraction of the time it would take at a sit down restaurant? We usually get the usual dim sum options: shui mai, ha gow, shrimp in a blanket, shrimp balls, egg tarts, buns, etc. Sure it's not the best dim sum ever, but we've never been unsatisfied with our meals aka there wasn't anything we thought we would never order again. It can get a little pricey for it being "fast food", but you're kind of paying for the convenience. On top of that, I ordered a party tray of chow mein once, and everyone at the party loved it and asked where it was from. I have yet to try their other non-dim sum foods though. One day! I've ordered take out from here a few times and it is always consistently delicious. Even after a 15 minute drive home, the items are still hot! Too far for us to go on the regular, thank goodness b/c I would easily be here ALL THE TIME. Favorites are their siu mai, meaty porky salty goodness. Crazy shrimp ball, packed with shrimp and won ton strips deep fried. I like to dip the crazy shrimp in their sweet and sour sauce. Their footballs are good too, love the mochi like crunchy dough on the outside. Their sesame balls are consistently good. So many choices of dimsum dishes, from steamed dishes, fried dishes and baked dishes and everything was displayed so it was really hard to resist. Almost all dimsum items were sold per 3 items (kinda like an odd number) and as of right now, the price is $3.75 for 3 items for almost all items. I got the shiumai, hargow, chive dumpling, pork potsticker, and fried shrimp ball. Everything was delicious, and they give generous amount of meat. Everything was as expected, except the siu mai wasn't my favorite iteration of the fish. Nonetheless, the flavors were all great! The size of the dumplings are fairly large as well. Which Anglo-Saxon out there added an "r" to the end of HA GOW?? Educate yourselves, guys, and don't be an idiot and say 'har'. Even you, you ABCs. *shivers* I don't get why it's written like that on the menu all over Canto restaurants. #endrant I ordered an order of ha gow ($3.45 for 3 pieces), chicken feet ($3.45), and a side of soy sauce noodles (~$5). I liked their noodles the most (and it looked like it was made fresh when I got there). To my disappointment, the dumpling skin of the ha gow was too thick albeit the flavor profile was spot-on. The chicken feet had a different kind of marinade, I think, that I didn't quite like and the skin wasn't braised loose and soft. Wish their portion cost is cheaper, though. $1.15 per ha gow doesn't seem right. Overall, Dim Sum King hit the spot for any dim sum cravings you may be having, or any Cantonese fast food dish cravings, for that matter. They are located in a plaza with plenty of parking. We come here quite often for the weekend dim sum to go, there are always a long line during lunch time and their food is always consistent and good. Their price is fair, $3.45 for most items and comes with 3 pieces. This time we ordered party trays for delivery for our work lunch in Palo Alto. I looked at their 3rd parties delivery options like Grubhub and other ones, it had such bad reviews stating items delivered were cold, which is not a fair review for Dim Sum King since they have no control for the food delivered late. So I opted to have Dim Sum King deliver themselves, they charge us $20, which was well worth the price as all the food was still nice and warm. I like the fact that if you want, they will cook your order fresh. I like some of the food - but not exactly all of it. It's a regular veggie chow mein that doesn't have much to offer. It's just ok. Fried fish - 8/10 crispy and fried fresh for my order. It has a good spiciness and the flavor is there. It's not a heavy coating so you get a good fish to coating ratio. Broccoli with garlic - 10/10 I wish there were more veggies in this, a nice medley would be ideal. It was cooked perfectly and didn't lack any flavor. Coconut curry chicken - 10/10 tender pieces of chicken and potatoes in coconut with Chinese curry. This is the best dish yet! Eat over steamed rice for ultimate yumminess! Siu Mai - 8/10 3 pieces of steamed pork and shrimp dumpling, cooked very well. But depending on when you get it (id suggest around lunch or when they first open, it may be over steamed and over stuffed. Mine tasted good, but not the best Siu Mai I've ever had. I want to make sure people understand what the point of this restaurant is. I'm not trying to purport that this place is better than a sit down dim sum restaurant staffed by middle-aged Chinese ladies who could be your auntie pushing around steam filled carts and stamping your table cards. That experience is unique and not offered at this location. This place is specifically meant to fulfill your dim sum cravings when you don't want to wait an hour in line for an actual dim sum restaurant where you watch other people have a great time while you're starving on a Sunday morning with your friends or families. Having eaten dim sum for over 30 years, I can at least say the quality and flavor of this food is at least comparable to a mid-range to high quality dim sum place. Honestly I would give this place six stars if they also had beef tripe with radishes but I doth protest too much. Pro tip: order ahead on the Yelp app and schedule for pickup to avoid waiting in line and you can get your food in the time that it would take for you to drive over there instead of waiting in line to order on a Sunday. I've been coming here for almost a decade and have always loved their food and service, but recently there's one employee that has made me question coming back. FOOD: I usually get the siu mai, pan-fried shrimp & chive dumplings, radish cake, steamed pork buns, sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf, chow mein (thick noodles), ice cap taro bun. All very delicious! SERVICE: I have never had an issue with the service until recently. The employees here have always been so nice and pleasant - one of the main reasons why I would keep coming back (besides the good dim sum). A few months ago, I came in and the employee (tall young man, black-framed glasses, tattoos on forearms) that took my order was very rude... I was taken aback by his attitude. My friend also noticed and was upset with how this employee spoke to me. It is generally very loud inside this restaurant (due to the loud fans), and with the face masks we're wearing, it can be difficult to hear. This employee snapped at me when he couldn't hear what I said. "I CAN'T HEAR YOU." The tone of his voice and attitude was so disrespectful to paying customers. I didn't come back for several months until this past weekend. I was waiting in line and saw this young man taking orders again. He was being stern and unwelcoming to the customers in front of me. He sternly dictated to one customer "stand over here" (to be close to the chow fun he was ordering), but that elderly man ignored him and stayed where he was. It made me really anxious waiting to have to interact with him again, but luckily another employee took me order! In the future, I will probably call in my order for pick-up, so I will not have to risk dealing with that employee. If he does not have the soft skills to interact with customers, he should not be taking customer orders.
