Wait time were super long as usual, the wait for a table was 3.5-4 hours. Lucky we waited in the bar line instead, that took about 40 mins. Came back here for the soup dumplings Kurabota XLB but a bit disappointed because the soup was not as full like water balloon as before. But the dumplings still tasted flavorful. I discovered adding chili oil to the dumplings it brings out the flavor at a higher level. The chili oil was so fragrant mild at the beginning, the spiciness intensified later, I had to keep reaching for the water to bring down the heat lol but I still like it! It's been a while since I've been to DTF, I do like this location more than when it was in that small plaza on Baldwin Ave. Our host (very welcoming and personable btw) found us a table in a relatively quick time. There are new additions and deletions to the menu since I've last visited. We got the typical pork XLB, beef noodle soup, shrimp & pork spicy wontons, and cucumber salad. These are their foundational dishes imo and they're just as good as I remembered them. They don't have Shanghai rice cakes anymore (rip), so our waitress recommended a new dish, fried noodles with skirt steak. This turned out better than expected, not something I'd expect DTF to have but was well-executed. Good wok hei on the noodles and veggies, savory soy-based coating without being too greasy, and the steak is tender without being too overwhelmed with other flavors. I have to thank our server Connie for suggesting this dish and having a courteous attention to our table after letting her know it's our first time back in a long while. We also tried the dessert sesame XLB with a side of sea salt cream because we wanted something different from our typical chocolate XLB order. It was a great way to end the meal. Other than the food, I really like the location being in the mall because it feels a bit exclusive to dine there with the nice dim-lit interior, and cleanliness almost seem like the when the location first opened. The interior was also well kept and the appearance is upscale. Everyone who eats here needs to understand this is a Chinese family style restaurant, meaning you SHARE the food. A person ought not to eat from a dish ordered. Grab a small plate and bowl and share. This also allows everyone at the table to try more food. Things you do have to order is the pork soup dumplings, spicy beef noodle soup and the spicy wonton. The flavor is top notch. I would avoid the minced meat noodle as it was not seasoned well. Ask for chili oil on the side. The tofu salad is good and the cucumber side was okay. Good crunch, but not truly marinated in my taste. Overall, a must try spot. I noticed when it's busy they start to slip up and forget, having to ask them a few times before we get what we requested. They give out a new set of utensils and plates for desserts which is appreciated. They also pack your leftovers for you. Our visit this time was a bit disappointing compared to my many previous visits. They don't leave the chili oil on the tables anymore so you have to request it, and when it comes the portion is super tiny, so we have to keep asking for more which makes us seem needy and places more of a strain on the workers. She also wanted to shop at specific stores that are all within the Santa Anita Mall. Weekends are always so busy! You can feel the energy as soon as you walk in. We were seated in an area with a group of about fifteen 13 y/o boys who were all over the place. The adults with them did absolutely nothing to manage their disruptive behavior. We weren't concerned at first because they appeared to be finishing up. But later realized that they were not, so we had to endure them for half our lunch. Once thing I would say is to order the OG xlbs and don't go for the crab pork ones cuz the crab does something to it and I think pork is just so much sweeter. Today I randomly stepped into a Din Tai Fung thinking, been a while since I had their XLB, and in my head I've set the bar so high that when I was consuming both baskets of XLB, the pork and the crab/ pork, the soup dumplings tasted very ordinary, nothing special, a bit dry, soup was lacking sweetness, lacking Umami and that richness. I know consistency is there thing, but I don't know, somehow I remembered as a kid in Taipei, going out to the Xinyi location, it was magical. And so the only thing I can conclude making this trip out here is other restaurants around Los Angeles have definitely upped their game with soup dumplings because DTF didn't feel that special today. Service and dining atmosphere is great as usual. But if I had to wait to get seated, I'll travel elsewhere to feed that Xiao Long Bao void. Probably Good Alley. read more

Excellent as always- fast service, friendly staff, clean restaurant. I was able to check in on the app about an hour prior to our estimated seating time, which was super convenient. The food came out quickly and was hot and delicious. I tried the sesame noodles for the first time and i was absolutely blown away! Will def be ordering those every time now. Excellent food, made carefully and with what seems to be high quality ingredients. Staff are attentive enough and the environment is very nice. There are a few other locations I prefer, but this is a great spot and I recommend for anyone seeking dumplings, pork chop fried rice or seaweed salad - among so many other great options read more
