This is one of my sister's favorite boba spot by her house and it is my first time being here. She was very stoked to learn that Lee sandwiches will be next door. But let's get back to a review. I'm going to break this into 3 portions: location, customer service and drink quality. Location was super easy to find with plenty of parking all around. Customer service felt a little rush. If you're a newbie, come prepare and don't forget to tell them if you need to adjust your sugar and ice level. For the drink quality, I'm not a fan of ding tea franchises in north cal. But socal is different. We got a total of 4 drinks. Each average around $5. I got the signature milk tea with grass jelly, adjusted less sugar and ice. I'm used to boba drinks with a strong tea flavor. I didn't feel that with the drink but whatever they used, it has a high caffeine level. I got the monster milk latte for my husband. It comes with boba and also adjusted sweetness and ice. I tried his and didn't like it. I'm going to say that their drinks do not run sweet sweet. So next time I'd get 75% sugar instead of 50%. My sister is a huge fan of the taro milk tea so she got that. My brother in law got jasmine milk tea with white boba. Overall, rating 4 for me. Was not super impressed with this place. First of all, the staff was extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. The shop is very small and cramped, and made me feel a little claustrophobic. I wouldn't come here to hang out for long or to study. There's ample parking outside, but it's located in a busy shopping center so parking could be hard to find during busy hours. This has the be the worst boba place I've ever been to. It was my first time having Ding Tea and the menu had a decent selection so I was optimistic. I decided to be basic and order a Thai tea w/ boba because it's just a solid choice when trying out a new boba place. You can't possibly mess that up. BOYYYYYYY was I wrong. Took a sip of it and instant regret and complete waste of money. I had to ask my friends to try it because I just couldn't comprehend what I was tasting. The common conciseness was that it was completely watered down. Like if you can't make Thai tea correctly, you should just pack up and close down the shop. The waffles here are okay, more like mediocre but the drinks are an absolute hit. It is more on the sweet side so just be aware ahead of time. Service is as quick as it goes. This is the worst customer service I've received in a boba place. Ding Tea has amazing drinks, and I'm glad they opened one close to me so I don't have to drive all the way to Clairemont area to fulfill my cravings, so I came here 2x, both with horrible experience. First time I came here I asked for just a Thai tea with boba easy ice and they gave me 75% ice. I was real polite about it when I asked for a remake because maybe they didn't hear me the first time, and the guy just gave me a stare as he took my drink and so I sat down waiting for it scrolling on my phone. They didn't even bother calling out my drink, so my drink just sat there, and when I realized that I've been sitting for a while, I went up to the counter for the status of my drink, and the guy was like "you're drinks been there". The second time I went here, long story short, i went here with my boyfriend and he got the taro and i got the passion tea. Now keep in mind I'm familiar with the menu since I have been a huge fan of the company, so I took a sip of my drink and it tasted a bit off to me, so I simply asked to get it remade, with manners as well, and a different guy straight up told me "we don't do remakes, sorry." I WAS LIVID, never in my experience of ordering ANYTHING that is related to food service have I been told they don't do remakes. I asked why not, and he just said "Oh it's policy". Policy my ass. Here's another policy: Policy is keeping your customers happy. I was just astonished and it caught me off guard that it just happened to me. One of the worst experience I've encountered at a Ding Tea location. Not the best management! I came here on May 21st, 2019, at 10:37 pm. I was craving some boba at the moment and decided to go to Ding Tea. As I walked into the establishment, the employee (girl) with thick eyebrows greeted me. Good start for a second. While I was looking at the menu with my friends, I noticed that she began using her phone taking selfies and texting. Unprofessional. Talk about professionalism where it labeled around the store. How ironic? The Vietnamese owners or managers were around her, too; I guess they don't care about being professional, especially towards customers. Whether or not you are at the register, you have to be professional in the workforce. I ordered the Wintermelon Milk Tea half sweet, no ice with golden boba. Extremely disappointed with the outcome of the drink. I haven't once been appalled with the outcome of my drinks from 10+ Ding Tea locations in SoCal. My drink wasn't filled up all the way!!! I immediately question the management if that's what they even have here regarding with my drink. I had two people to talk to me about filling my drink all the way. I get it that's a small amount loss, but I pay for what I order. Am I right? Customers pay for what they want! They said "You order no ice" and "We can only fill it to 90% of the cup". Bruh. One of the best boba shops I encountered in the area. There is plenty of parking and seating however, service was quite slow when I went (there were only 2 employees working). I ordered the season guava tea and was pleasantly surprised. The guava flavor was strong and they added a dried plum which paired well. I was able to adjust the sweetness so it wasn't overbearingly sweet. I've came here pretty often since it opened cause it's so much closer than the one in mira Mesa. I really like the strawberry yakult drink in mira Mesa but I feel like it taste gritty down here so I decided to change up my drink and now I always get the lychee yakult. It's good and isn't gritty like the strawberry one. Thai tea with coffee jelly is good too. Quick update: after multiple visits, they're a lot more prompt with keeping up with orders, even on a busy day. They have the best grass jelly topping in all of San Diego. My Mom lives near here and I would see their sign every time I visit her and have been anticipating their grand opening for months now. Well the Grand Opening is finally here! And they had a BOGO deal. Long lines are expected for opening weekend but I thought there would be little to no people at 930p, on a Sunday night. Boy was I wrong! There was at least a dozen people in front of me, and another dozen who already ordered and are waiting for their drinks. Man, Asians really love their teas and boba. And I'm one of them. I should've walked away and went home but endured the line. It wasn't so bad. Maybe waited 30 minutes for 2 drinks. My bother and I got the BOGO deal and he ordered a passion fruit green tea & I had the lychee green tea. Both came with golden boba and not you're usual black boba. You can adjust your sugar and ice level which is nice because some places make their drinks way too sweet. I definitely tasted the tea in my drink, and not the syrup. Overall, good drinks, good selection/variety on the menu, lots of parking (unlike anywhere on Convoy) &friendly staff. Nice addition to the neighborhood. read more

Boba!!! Has been boring for the past few years, at least in my opinion. Kungfu Tea, Share Tea, Boba Time, Tapex, Mira Mesa Ding Tea, Tapioca Heaven, Infinitea, Up2you, Bambuu... I have been to most if not all of the boba shops in SD. I dont know what to drink anymore because I mostly taste sugar and powder from most of these shops. THEN!!! Cystal boba came around at DING TEA on 5807 University Ave. It changes everything for me!!!. It brings back the excitement i have for milk tea back, when Tapioca Express was the first and only boba shop in San Diego. Signature Milk Tea with crystal boba is BOMB!!!. I was a little misled about the location of this Ding Tea and thought it was on the SDSU campus, but it's actually a 10 minute drive from the college! I was also a bit disappointed because I've heard so many great things about this boba chain, but their drinks tasted okay to me. I tried the Monster Bobo Latte and thought it tasted pretty good, but it honestly didn't live up to all the hype it has been receiving lately. Their golden boba is very flavorful and delicious, but I wasn't a big fan of their crystal boba because of the texture. I heard many people talk about their Yakult drink series, so I'll probably try that the next time I'm here. Overall, Ding Tea isn't the best, but it's also not the worst. Their drinks are still very yummy and I wouldn't mind coming here for a quick boba fix before and after classes when the cravings kick in; however I still prefer other boba shops over Ding Tea. read more
