Great local diner in the heart of Prescott! I stopped in for breakfast New Year's Day after reading some reviews on here, and I wasn't disappointed! I was alone, so I sat at the counter, and not only is the staff warm and friendly, but so were the customers. I got in a nice conversation with a bartender who works at a local saloon who stopped in for a bite before work, and I felt very at home. I had beef machaca and eggs and they were cooked just right. Good portion, good food, good service. Expect it to be busy, but also expect to enjoy your stay! Will definitely come back next time I am in town. Street parking. read more

Excellent restaurant! We looked up restaurants for that area and found some great reviews for this place. We waited for about 15 minutes for a party of 4. It was around 1 pm on a Sunday. I had the chorizo scramble and it was perfect. My bf had the Spanish omelet and he said it was awesome. His son had a cheeseburger and loved it. Rounding out the order was a belgian waffle with strawberries and whip cream. His daughter was very happy with it and finished it in record time. On a side note the coffee was excellent! read more

Just gross! I love French dip, so I ordered it- cold, the meat was grey and the bun was a weird color. Didn't taste great, but the kicker was a nasty hairball on the toast my husband ordered that we noticed halfway through. I know it's a 'historic' building, but it doesn't look clean. This is my 2nd time visiting this diner. Food is delicious, love their waffles! This is the reason for the 3 stars, but their wait staff could use some training in Customer Service . Our waitress Gloria was sweet, nothing impressive but she was nice. Cathy on the other hand was a "yucky" example of what Customer Service should Not be. She seemed annoyed with us being there. I observed her throughout our meal and she was just plain rude to everyone. Maybe she's like that since she isn't working for tips, I don't know, but she is there to do a job and work with the public, the least she could do is smile or at least respond with a "you're welcome" when the customer says "thank you". I kid you not, she looked grumpy and not once responded to a "thank you" from us. I am all about supporting small business in my city, but because of her lack of customer service, I would not recommend this establishment. Sad, since their food is so yummy. read more

This is a great place for brunch or a leisurely breakfast. The dining room is a little small, but it's all about the prescott vibe. Colorful, worn down tables and chairs in a minimalist room to give it the bohemian/desert artist vibe. The only thing I ordered here (the only thing I will ever order here) are the buckwheat waffles with mango and walnuts (I was told about it from my lovely AZ family away from my real family RIP Carol). Food was 'good' priced fair. Service... Well for me not so good. Ordered their 'country' potatoes, I must have gotten confused because what I got was steak fries, why not call them steak fries or make sure customers know they are getting steak fires. When I looked at the plate and said with a questionable look, 'French fries'? We debated about what I had ordered for 30 seconds or more...she reluctantly said ' well....do you want me to 'try' and see if they will let me change them?' If you want an excellent breakfast this is the place. This morning I ordered a Southwest omelet with country potatoes and sourdough toast. This is what makes this cafe stand out: cilantro, lots of green chilis, and homemade salsa, real butter on the toast (which is toasted to perfection), real potatoes! (peeled each morning). At the Dinner Bell Cafe, I had eaten one of the best Cheesburgers i had ever recieved from a resturant. The service was good, our waitress was very kind. Fast service great food and there was not one thing I found wrong about the Cafe. My wife and I were looking for a good local breakfast place before heading back to CA. Based on reviews, we decided to try the Dinner Bell Cafe. We arrived early by 7am and the place was empty. There is an old homey feel to the place. It certainly did not have the clinical white clean feel but it also did not feel dirty. My wife and I ordered almost similar breakfasts of eggs and bacon with my wife ordering pancakes and I ordered the buckwheat waffle. All of the food was warm at best; certainly not hot. We expected more. At this time of the morning, the food should have been piping hot. While I enjoyed the buckwheat waffle, the premium price was not worth it over a regular waffle. All in all, this was one of the most expensive breakfasts we have ever had and it was mediocre at best. The service was good. The ambiance was vintage but nice. We are not likely to come back here again. read more

A good place for breakfast.! We read that the back room/patio creekside was the best place to sit and that recommendation was right on. However, the whole deck running along the restaurant could use some maintenance...especially if you are going to have waiting tables standing up and down it. Also, cash only is somewhat inconvenient for a restaurant that must rely on having some tourist traffic. Otherwise, food and service was all good! read more

Portions were out of control, but this isn't always a bad thing! But for under $10 bucks you get enough food to clog your arteries and have leftovers for the next day. Even though it was a diner for sure everything was fresh and made from scratch, I could swear the green chilies I added to my scrambled eggs were freshly sauteed, not from a can. Same with the mushrooms in my boyfriend's omelet. The apple wood bacon was so good I wanted to stab my man's hand as he reached for the last piece, stupid to share an order. We've been coming to the Dinner Bell for years. Everyone I bring here gets addicted to the Huevos Rancheros. It's a ton of food - and done perfectly. I've ordered many things from the menu and have not been disappointed yet. Had the Eggs Benedict for the first time last weekend and they knocked it out of the park. Hollandaise can make it or break it, if you know what I mean. I've been meaning to write to Guy with Diner's Drive-In's and Dives for quite some time now, but was afraid if I did that it would become even busier than it is now! But, I did just submit my entry for their show... it really is perfect! Bring your hungry friends and family - awesome breakfast and lunch! They close at 2pm - so no dinner at the Dinner Bell! AWFUL!! I needed my stomach pumped. We went to the dinner bell after reading some excellent reviews online. The place was packed and we chose to sit outside on the deck overlooking the creek (the ONE thing this place has going for it). I ordered the hashbrowns with a veggie pattie. My husband ordered eggs benedict. After a few bites of the hashbrowns, we both looked at each other and asked if they really tasted that bad. Upon investigation it seemed that our 'hashbrowns' were infact cut up fettucine noodles that had been fried in butter. WHAT?! We are both gluten intolerant and, having been served wheat noodles instead of potatoes, we both began to feel very ill. My husbands Hollandaise sauce was curdled and inedible. My veggie burger had been coated in beef fat. All in all, HORRIBLE! I will not go back ever, and will tell my friends the same. The waitress was friendly and helpful, but the food was disgusting. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! Save your stomach and head to the Raven instead. read more

My husband and I ate at the Dinner Bell and had a very poor experience for the second time. The first time we both noticed that the eggs tasted bad and we notified the waitress who didn't seem to care at all. We did not finish our meal. The waitress brought the check and did not offer anything else. Later we both became sick from the breakfast. This time I had the eggs benedict which was drenched in melted butter, not Hollandaise sauce like it was supposed to. The hashbrowns were very greasy. My husbands salad was chewy and the bread for his sandwich was also coated in way too much butter. We are both experienced cooks and know what food should taste like. There are plenty of other great restaurants in this town like the Raven, Lone Spur Cafe, Sue Annes Apple Pan and more. We will not be returning to the Dinner Bell and we don't recommend it to anyone else. read more

Really, this place should be called the Breakfast Bell. I've never had any meal other than breakfast here, but it's the only place I'll eat breakfast in Prescott. The servings are enough to feed a third-world village, and yet I've cleaned my plate each time I've been there. I'd bet on their chicken fried steak in a Pepsi Challenge against ANY other chicken fried steak in Arizona (yes, even that one). A great breakfast place is essential to a good vacation. Eating breakfast in the hotel rarely satisfies the taste buds nor the sense of adventure. Exploring downtown Prescott, we came upon the Dinner Bell and it became "our" breakfast joint. Eating in the main room or the patio worked for our group with three kids ranging from one-year to 12-years old. Pancakes, eggs and waffles were delicious. Coffee was good and flowed freely from our on-the-ball waitress, and the price was reasonable. We went back for breakfast on each morning of our 4-day vacation because it was a great way to start the day. read more

We loved it here! First time visit from the valley in town for the bike race. I got the southwest omelet with their country potatoes and it was yummy!! They also have the option of making your own omelet and I love that. Hubby got the blueberry waffles and they were great. Have always had a good breakfast or lunch, every time we've been to the Dinner Bell Cafe. The waitress's have always been friendly and prompt. Ate there this morning. It's true as someone noted, the Dinner Bell is a diner. The difference is that the food is extremely well-prepared and the coffee is great! I like my eggs over hard and at almost everyplace I eat that means they burn them. Not so at DB, the eggs came out so perfect I didn't think they had done them right, but too my surprise they had managed to cook my eggs through without burning them. Yeah, the server was a little grim faced, but that's just the way some people are. She wasn't unpleasant, just business like and not inclined to stand and chat at length with the customers, even the regulars. I'll take good food and quick service anytime over bad food and a server who chat's you up to get a good tip. My only complaint is the fruit. I ordered a small cup and it tasted like it had been prepared yesterday. read more

Saw that this place had some pretty good reviews, so my husband and I stopped by as we passed through town. The staff were somewhat friendly, the service was very fast, and the food was good but average. The reason for my rating was due to the fact that I found hair in my hash browns...twice! The 1st time - I let the waitress know about it and asked for another order of hash browns, she was kind about it and they came out really quick. Then halfway through my second order, I found another hair. At that point I gave up. The waitress was never apologetic and I didn't even bother to tell her about the second hair. read more

It's in a nice spot, right on the creek, with a nice patio area. The food is average and forgettable, if you are lucky. If you're not lucky, you just might get the sh*ts. Sunday mornings are crowded with locals, otherwise it's pretty quiet. It's cheap and quick, with a nice Prescott atmosphere. Turns out that the owners of Bill's Pizza used to own this place. What a surprise. They were busy with renovations in the front and we were ushered around the back. At first I thought this was going to be one of those meals but wow. I opted for the 2 eggs Toast and Bacon accompanied by potato wedges. The eggs were done to perfection, the bacon was tasty and the potato wedges the best. They were soft inside with a pleasant crisp on the outside. The coffee was really very very good. My wife had the omelette and she raved about it being very tasty. The only negative point here I would mention are the prices. There breakfasts are expensive but the food makes up for that and we will definitely return. The biggest plus was that the bacon and the potato wedges were not drenched in oil and I was most delighted about that. Worth a place to try out for breakfast. read more

Can't really give this place the 3rd star for our breakfast experience today. It's amazing how a grumpy waitress/server can sour an experience. I will give 4 stars for the ham steak that Mom ordered and for the Chorizo Scramble I ordered. 2 stars for everything else I tasted (yes...I have a wandering fork...LOL!)
