My husband and I came to this restaurant as it is close to our resort here (we aren't from the area) we were immediately impressed by the kindness and quickly welcoming nature of the host and wait staff. Our server Lindsay, made us feel very comfortable and not rushed despite coming in closer to closing. The food was AMAZING. My husband got a burger and I got a flatbread and it was filling and very beautifully presented. The music and art decor is spot on and makes you feel at home ( a rich at home experience haha). I loved how I felt here every second. The food was delicious (we got the Thai burger with the Beyond Burger and the winter vegetable curry). My cocktail, the Bee-yoncé was amazing! And our server was very attentive and friendly. But what impressed me most about this place is that when my dad and I told our server we wanted to split our two entrees, rather than just bring us a couple of extra plates like most places would, they actually split our burger in half and split the curry in half for us and presented both really well. First you have to know about it. Next you have to find it. Then you need to be able to get a table. And after you do you will swear it is all worth it. So happy this is not some Manhattan knock off. This is a small place, nicely decorated with a good menu. The FOOD however is the star. We were a threesome in on Saturday Night around 8PM. The joint was packed but that was fine. Wait was short (could have been shorter but for some reason patrons feel that before and after their meals they should be allowed to sit and bury their heads in their cell phones... but I digress). Menu is not pretentious and neither are the prices. Started with the calimari... perfect taste and crunch. Nothing soggy or chewey. The on to the Atlantic Salmon. The best plate of salmon I ever had was at a place in Victoria BC... until now. The salmon had the lightest of crunch on the outside and the meat inside was perfect. It was served over a risotto that was... well I cannot describe it except to say if there is a perfect way to prepare it, they have nailed it. Place is loud. It's cramped. Some of the best entertainment is watching some of the people around you offering their opinions on the wine and the food, pinkie raised, noses in the air. I came here on a Sunday night and it was not busy. I ordered the shrimp and sweet potato appetizer, salmon with risotto with a side of grilled asparagus. All the food was amazing. I went here with a large group (10 adults, three children) in between shows at the nearby Colonial Theater. The staff were very accommodating and nice, but did seem a bit overwhelmed by our large group. Nonetheless, they were very kind and helpful, and they did a great job at suggesting food for the children to eat even though they don't have an actual children's menu. Of note, the food provided to the kids was of great quality, I get very annoyed when I pay $5 for boxed Kraft mac and cheese, so I appreciate the extra effort! Now on to what the adults ate. Everyone at my table was happy with their food, which is a rarity in this group. Lots of things were had... a delicious chicken sandwich (with potato chips on the sandwich, not the side, awesome!), burgers, pasta, mussels, steak, and salad. I shared with my husband the mussels, a creamy pasta dish that I can't remember the name, and a side of fries (because who doesn't love fries?). All were AMAZING. The sauce with the mussels was so good, spicy and fresh, that I wanted to drink it right there. The pasta was so delicious and creamy, but it was a little heavy, so if you order it and aren't totally ravenous, I would share it. The French fries were awesome and crunchy, if a little bit salty. Overall, this was a great place to eat. I am in the area often visiting family and this is one of the better Pittsfield restaurants I have been too. District still shines! The food and beverages are terrific. PEI mussels, flatbreads, burgers, truffle fries are all delicious. The service remains excellent--efficient, friendly, and kind. I have noticed, however, their prices are creeping up. Mussels now top $20 and the flatbreads run around $16. Understanding that labor and food costs are on the rise, but don't want District to "price out" families and regular clientele. read more

Stopped here on the way to Williamstown for the weekend. Wifey and I liked everything we tried on a menu that is diverse and well-executed. Started with a roast crispy pork cutlet, which was delicious and just a little bit different than any we had tried before. Beet salad was really good as well, although could have used a few more beets. The mussels were fantastic. Very fresh, so a great texture and the way they were cooked in a tomato broth with chorizo was a really great twist on traditional mussel broths. Came with grilled baguette that we could dip into the sauce. The most delicious and unique thing we tried as the Mako Shark, which came with a burre blanc, risotto and roasted cherry tomatoes. Now roasting cherry tomatoes is a delicate process, you put them in the oven too long and they turn to mush but these guys know how to cook them perfectly. The flavor combination of the rice, tomato and shark was amazing. Each on their own was interesting but whoever is head chef there had done a lot of experimenting to get that flavor profile. The shark itself was like a steak, had a nice rich flavor with a charred and tasty crust. Great service and decent wine selection too. Really impressed with everything we had here, would definitely come back. read more

District is a classic example of the modern American trend in gastropubs. It does a great job. Public in North Adams receives rave reviews and based on the quality of the food and persistent and personable service I can see why. I enjoyed a terrific piece of Mahi over a sweet Sriracha tomato broth, which refreshingly used the condiment in an easily overpowered dish of flavors. My fellow diner enjoyed her burger which in a world of upscale burgers, was much more reasonable than the usual; charred like a good backyard burger like one would hope. The wine list is lengthy and a good glass doesn't mean high cost. I was very pleased and hope to visit district again. A meal is best served in a memorable environment and District offered just that. read more

Took two tries to get dinner here, first time was jam packed and left. More successful second time, had to wait for a table but not too long. As for food, had small salad which was quite good and asparagus plate-which was guite small for 11.95. I think it was 4 pieces of asparagus with sun dried tomatoes and mozzarella. Hard to share with the wife. Very tasty but very small. Also ordered the spicy shrimp tacos, excellent and got three, so portion size was good. I also ordered the salmon risotto mid sized plate, which had peas and tarragon. Salmon was a little fishy, but overall the dish was good. Wife though it wasn't that great for risotto Portion size was not too bad. Overall the dining experience was good but left there wanting a bit more in some of the portion sizes. Had some lemony calamari for an appetizer which was very good. I had the District Burger and added smoked gouda and an egg and it came out great. The fries that came with it were "ok" but nothing great, I probably left 3/4 of them behind. No dessert as we were going to a show down at the colonial theater so didn't have time. read more

Great spot in the Berkshires and our second time coming. An intimate and cool spot. The Brie burger was tremendous, juicy and flavorful. The steak tacos were good, hearty portions but missing a little something interesting in them. Great set up with the small bites to large bites on the menu. The cocktails were all interesting. I had the gold rush and their tequila negroni. I enjoyed both. Their wine selection was also interesting - something for our next trip. Service was excellent, especially given how crowded they were. I was kind of let down by this restaurant. You walk in and it's looks like you're in Boston in a hip and trendy restaurant. The place smelled amazing. I called ahead to put us on the wait list but when we arrived we were told the wait would be longer. It was fine we ended up finding seats at the bar. The food and drink menu looked amazing. However the bartenders were a little rude from us and rolled their eyes when we asked for a refill on our drink and for a side of marina sauce. They weren't really friendly and weren't big fans of them. It was busy but you can still smile. The food was alright. I got the bacon and blue burger which was noting impressive and it was over cooked. I asked for med rare and got well done. The thing that saved it was the amazing truffle fries. My boyfriend got the margarita pizza and it was slightly cold. We didn't even bother to complain about the food to the bartenders because we knew that we would just get ignored. We came to Pittsfield to see the sights in the Berkshires and ate both nights here. We were not disappointed in ANYTHING we chose. The first night we had the Mussels. They were served over a bed of greens and were delicious. I had the Mac and Cheese. Do NOT confuse it with what you get in a box. OMG ... it was incredible. The pancetta and seasonings were fabulous. I may need to get my cholesterol checked!! The second night we had two different fish dishes. The salmon and the snapper. Both were out of this world! The combination of sweet and savory was perfect. I cannot express how wonderful our experience was. My mom and I went for an early dinner. Brittany, our server, was lovely and perfectly attentive. She recommended the swordfish which was such a beautiful dish. Thank you for the perfect recommendation. The swordfish was lightly charred, served with tender asparagus, soy braised barley, and a garnish of the crunchiest, tastiest calamari (what??? Amazing!) Perfect. Cannot wait to go back. One of the best meals I have ever had. The cheese tray was absolutely delicious. The cherries were so good I asked for the proper name so I could look up a recipe. Not only did she bring me the name, but also the recipe! How great is that? The meal...phenomenal. I got the risotto with sausage and it was so good and filling. So much so, I could only eat about half. I took the other half to go and ate it as part of my breakfast the next day! My husband really enjoyed his fish (forgot what he had). He didn't have a bite left on his plate. The place can be a bit tight depending on where you get seated. There really is no call ahead seating. We ordered brie burger and risotto. The burger is juicy and cooked exactly the way you want it. I would love to have some fig jam to balace the overall flavor if they could offer some. The drink menu was unique and offered plenty of choices. The Granada was a refreshing garden drink perfect for summer. The melon salad was a perfect mix of fruit, feta, and cucumber water. My fiancé enjoyed some of the best grilled salmon he has had in a long time. It was moist and fresh and served on a bed of risotto. The wait staff was very attentive. The wait was very long. Much longer than the 20 minutes we were told it would be to sit 2 people. The food was pretty good though. I had the Pan Roasted Salmon with risotto and my girlfriend had the Grilled Flat Iron Steak. The steak was a little undercooked which was unfortunate. Thoroughly disappointed in this spot. Based on the reviews I was expecting a great meal in a great atmosphere. I travel frequently for work and rely on Yelp for meals and District had rave reviews and I'm still trying to determine why. I sat at the bar and ordered the petit filet- shortly thereafter my meal arrived and the filet was charred on the outside- and not in a good way. It just tasted burnt. Very burnt (though cooked to perfection for medium-rare- thus the two stars). I moved on to the green beans which were cold and unseasoned and ended up eating all of the fingerling potatoes because that was the best part of the dish. The staff was nice, though not attentive, my wine glass was empty throughout my entire meal. Once I finished I was only offered my check- not another glass of wine. Save yourself a trip. read more
