Well, it's the end of District Taco for me. Ordered three beef tacos the Jefe way, and the wife ordered vegan chips and dip with guacamole. It took 25 minutes for the order to finally make it to our table. Took one bite of my tacos and the beef was cold, and missing the sour cream, not to mention that my wife, who has the iron stomach, just finished vomiting 45 minutes after we just got home. Say señor, someone is not washing their hands. And remember kids, gloves don't make your hands clean and the morons working there who come in from smoke breaks, never wash their hands. During this quarantine time, I kept to one two restaurants in the area for the days I didn't feel like cooking and District Taco has been the main go to and the food has been getting better and better as the weeks go on. I usually kept to the same menu items, but I finally ventured to another items, the Nachos Borrachos and I have to say....so good! Only recommendation, if you order this bowl, get the queso on the side as it can make the chips soft if left on too long before eating. I am Spanish, so I am particular with my food selections and District gets it right every time. Thank you to Carlos, Caesar and the rest of the team at DT (I go so much now, I know them by name ;) ) . You all have been so amazing during this crazy time in VA and in the country. This afternoon I ordered a salad from District Taco at 701 Franklin Street in Old Town Alexandria. Upon arrival I called and advised that I was in the parking lot. The young lady that answered the phone, called me back and advised that I would have to come in because my order indicated pickup. I asked if she could bring the order to my car and her manager said that she could not. I advised her that I preferred to not be around people, and if they could not bring my order out or please cancel it. Again, she had to speak with the manager and he advised to they could cancel my order It is a shame, that in these unprecedented and perilous times management would not extend common customer service. read more

I have to confess that at first I had my doubts about District Taco, but those were soon dispelled from the moment I stepped through the doors. I also ordered a side of cheese sauce which gave my tacos that extra something. The salsa bar was also an added treat, for a tomatillo sauce was a creamy delight that completely enhanced my taco experienced. The salsa bar's spicy options contributed to wonderful taco customization. District Taco was a sweet gastronomic surprise that had me thinking every time one of these delicious beauties was scarfed down an angel scored a set of wings. I don't think I've ever had this complaint at a restaurant before, but I have to say that the portion sizes are surprisingly small for what you pay for. It seemed like a bit of a rip-off, especially compared to what you get for your money at a place like Chipotle. And the tacos were just mediocre. The food is great. The restaurant is clean and friendly. The staff are quick and friendly. Must try for authentic tacos in DC.

Overall a decent experience. The cashier was helpful and acts like she enjoys her job. I wish you could pick the toppings as they were making your meal so you could tell them a little more or a little less. The salsa bar is pretty cool, the ones we tried were good! Their sodas were also different, new & cool along with their multiple coffees you can make. The food was good, but in comparison to chipotle or California tortilla I would go with a competitor. Though some of their ingredients do taste very fresh I feel like it's not enough to make it that much better. The parking lot is VERY small Indoor seating is viable. Place has lost some of its step recently. A new crew has come in November of 2019. Food prep is slower and I have gotten undersized burritos the past two visits see picture. We live three blocks from here but are going to try other places. We will come back later in the winter and spring. Hopefully this is a temporary thing. We went to the District Taco just after they opened in Alexandria, and having been to the one on F street in DC, I like this location better. It is larger, and has a lot of atmosphere going for it... WITH FREE OFF STREET PARKING! (Try to get that in DC!) Bottom Line: Best Fish Tacos east of San Diego! So, I love their fish tacos. Shrimp alternates availability on some days of the week with the fish for variety. Always available are barbacoa, beef, pork, and chicken. For three you pay $8, and it's worth it. Also the chips, guac, beans and rice are pretty good too. The burritos are huge, so you can "get your eats on" - if thats your game. And I get the fish ones wherever I can get them. Albuquerque, San Diego, Los Angeles, DC, etc. San Diego still is king, but Zaltecos in Albuquerque now has stiff competition from my back yard neighbor in Alexandria. Good roasted fish, cabbage slaw, ramalade sauce and pico. Flour or corn tortilla are also choices to be made, but the flour are obviously fresh, and home made. Although for me, I am happy with just two tacos and a Boylan's soda. Enough for me, but I will want it again in a couple of hours... because... well... **TACOS!** On entering, you'll find this old "Chicken out" restaurant completely remodeled into a very hip Taco house. Line up, place your order, and you get your order as placed, delivered tableside. Take out and eat in, it's all an option, with a full Salsa bar and an endless soda/coffee drink fountain. Burritos, Tacos, and breakfasts with choice of protiens, veggies, and toppings. A nice urban relaxed setting with booths and picnic table seating. Dress is definitely tees, sneakers and jeans to business casual. Good for kids, with kid's portions available, and adult beverages (beer) available. Friday was a good day for Nachos. that's why my friend and went on a hunt to catch 'em all! we started at some places north but they were very busy. when we got to this place it wasn't crazy inside so we went with this place. we both got nachos. we waited an okay amount of time. the cashier wasn't really nice or mean just blah like he was tired. the nachos were more like a salad with so much lettuce and pico de gallo. we were a bit upset that we didn't get a big stack of chips with cheese dripping all over them. it tasted good though so no issue with eating all of it. finally the cheese was a bit watery on the bottom of the bowl. read more

Been out of the area for a couple of weeks. DT is one of our weekend "go to" places. We have usually enjoyed eating here....really good food, killer salsas, and super-nice staff. But today....ah, today is the day we sadly bid farewell to this location of DT. Why? New manager. Salsas are watery. My husband commented that the portions given for sides (such as queso or guac) were quite a bit smaller. And the final nail in their coffin.... THIS LOCATION HAS STOPPED SELLING BEER!!! Rolled in and gave our usual request for a Pacifico beer and told there weren't any Pacificos. Nope, not just a need to select a different beer...the person taking our order told us that location had a new manager who decided the location would not continue to sell beer. It certainly seems new leadership is leading this DT location in the wrong direction. Stay tuned for the recons of other locations where hopefully your salsas have maintained their tastiness and consistency, the shrinking sides hasn't occurred and the Pacificos are happily chilling in their cooler. I came to this restaurant around 4ish. I like how this place has a lot of topping selections that I would like to come multiple times to try different orders. I got the 3 tacos for about $9, which isn't too bad. The taco is a reasonable size. I'm not too sure if I ordered the wrong type of tortilla, but the tortilla that I ordered was a big soggy and not soft and firm. The meats that I ordered was the chicken, pork, and steak. I thought all three meats was delicious. I ordered all three tacos Mexican style and highly recommend that style. I am a coffee-lover and, unfortunately, I tried one of the coffee 'flavors' and I got sorta ill after drinking it. It was probably just bad coffee, but I felt weak, sore, and had a headache. So, I don't know if I was there at a bad time, but I don't recommend trying their coffee. The setting of the place seems cool. Outlets are about at every table near the window which was convenient for my low batt phone at the time. If you love tacos, I recommend it. If you love coffee, DON'T drink their coffee. read more

I still can't decide whether I like District Taco's chicken more than their beef or vise versa. They're both perfectly grilled and cooked, flavourful, and delicious. They have a unique salsa bar and my salad bowl dressing tasted very good! There're plenty of tables which makes it good for casual outings with your family and friends as well as casual work gatherings and meetings. All their fountain machine drinks are made with cane sugar (YES! No corn syrup). Staff is pretty quick which is perfect if you're on your lunch break and don't have plenty of time to wait for your order to be ready (and if you're starving, of course). At the restaurant, I gave my name and an employee gave a bag, but I found out after getting home that she gave an wrong order so I had to return to the restaurant to get the right order. The employee and the manager simply told me that it was my fault for not checking the order w/out even a hint of apology for giving me the wrong order. Poor customer service and attitude. I'm from Southern California so when I moved to the east coast I needed to find a quick, easy and inexpensive Mexican food staple. Well, here it is!! Breakfast tacos are awesome. And now you can get carne Assad without paying extra. I can't do cheese and so I order without the cheese. Add the salsa verde and it's delish! The coffee is from a local roaster, which I'm a huge fan of. Not just that the coffee is reliably tasty every time (never burnt) but that it's supporting local business. Lunch and dinner I opt for either tacos or a burrito bowl. Of all the meats I can't pick just one, but as of late al pastor has been a popular go to. It is marinated pork with fresh pineapple. I haven't been disappointed by the carne asada or the chicken ever. I've also been adding "salsa de chile" to my bowl; it's an extra $1 but so delicious. The guacamole topping is a lot extra so I usually just wait till I get home and either add avocados or a guava cup we get from Costco. I highly recommend this place! Everyone is very friendly and it's always clean. The bathrooms are better than average and the overall vibe is casual and fun. read more

Don't waste your time here. If you do, they will probably get your order wrong. Ordered a burrito from this place a few months ago and they messed up my order. Decided to give them another shot tonight and they forgot to add chicken to my chicken burrito! Then when I called the store to get a refund, the manager wouldn't speak to me because they were busy. On top of that, the teenage kid that answered my phone call was extremely unprofessional. The best part is all the add ins you get to put on and each taco in the order can be a diff type of meat. It was super surprising that they wrap each individual taco when they give you your order. Almost every time we eat in or take out there is something wrong with our order. This is especially frustrating when we get home and discover something isn't right and have to go back to get it fixed. The food is pretty good and I've always been a big DT fan, but we've basically stopped going to this location out of frustration. We always bring up the problem when we return our orders, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. The beans and chicken were good, but the side of tomatoes the put in with my to-go order made the tortilla very soggy by the time I got home. We were in the DC area recently and came across District Taco. We do not have DT where we live. The staff was a bit slow taking orders. First, had writing the taco 3 packs that 2 of us ordered. Then, inputting the order into the computer. Took a little while. The tacos were pretty good, but seemed to be be a bit sloppy. Rushed? Thrown together quickly where the meat was in one glob, the lettuce bunched together, etc. We unwrapped the tacos to evenly distribute the contents. Not a huge deal, but something I would add to the management suggestion box. We ate at the counter seating facing outside. Dirty. Sticky. I went to grab napkins and water to wipe down the counter. Overall, not a bad place to grab lunch. The place was busy (Saturday afternoon) with young families/kids and all age groups. Pleasant atmosphere. Room for improvement, but overall good experience.
