After too long a break, we went back to Divino last night and had a terrific meal sitting outside. The ambiance was terrific... usually eating outside is very noisy as cars drive by, but since this is a small street, it was amazingly quiet. Goren greeted us like long lost relatives, which we were, and seated us promptly. We ordered the special scallops and a burrata salad, They were both mouth watering. For our main course we had Gnocchi and White fish. Outstanding. Yummmmmm!!!!!! Still can taste the wonderful flavors the next morning. Had some Pinot Grigio to complement the fish. We skipped dessert, although just looking and smelling the apple dessert at the next table was enough for the calorie count. As we left Goren and a number of the staff wished us pleasant evening. The gnocchi that I remembered being so good was soggy and the porcini sauce was too mild. I had been to this restaurant years ago and it has changed. It is more expensive and not nearly as good. This is my favorite Italian restaurant. The food is just delicious and service is excellent. Favorites are the divino salad, gnocchi, rigatoni al ragu, linguine seafood, prsuto pizza, the veal cutlet, a special that is comprised of delicate pasta stuffed with lobster & vegetables in a light broth, and really pretty much everything I've tried. If you know the differences between Adriatic cuisine vs Mediterranean, then you will appreciate the subtle and yet unique differences. The owners are from the most beautiful spot in Montenegro, where fish is caught daily the ingredients are picked from the garden so they bring this concept to their kitchen. Bronzino, the King of Adriatic fish is super delicious and the chicken ragu penne to die for. I especially love the homemade soups that are his mothers recipe. You will not be disappointed with any dish you choose. It is also a great place to have a private party on their second floor. Best, home made Adriatic/Italian food in LA. I would like to see a more extensive wine list from the Adriatic region and a full bar would also be nice. read more

This is exactly what I'm looking for in a nice neighborhood restaurant. The owner greets you as you enter and is warm, but professional. The waiters are all great. My favorite dishes are the pasta dishes. For house made pasta I recommend trying the parpadelli with osso bucco or the ravioli. The penne with chicken ragu and the penne with spinach sauce and chicken are both comfort food Italian style. So good. DIVINO 11714 Barrington Court, Brentwood, CA 310.472.0886 My daughter and I arrived at the little mini-mall to go to the Italian pizza place. If not there, then the very cool place across the parking lot that I had been to 3 years ago. Both were closed. BOO! Divino was open. YAY! I had not seen it before, because I don't get to this part of town that often. Truth-out: born in LA and raised in the 'burbs, I finally lived on the West Side from 1981-1992, frequenting many Brentwood, Hollywood, Venice, Santa Monica, et al restaurants. Then I moved to Santa Barbara (yes, incredible restaurants, one better than the next), then to Oxnard... another post... another day... gustatory sigh... : ( We stepped inside Divino. Okay, I haven't spent much time in Italian restaurants... in Italy... but I have spent considerable time in wonderful restaurants in Paris and NYC and the moment I stepped into this warm, inviting respite from the seas of daily b.s., I felt at home, caressed and happy. The decor was Old World European, to me reminiscent of intimate restaurants sur L'lle Saint-Louis, Paris (no offense to the non-French proprietors or their Italian predilections). It has a two-story high ceiling in the main room... does that exist somewhere on Ile Saint-Louis? Someone will clue me in, no doubt. It was night, (so dark outside, we couldn't see the parking instruction sign hidden up in the trees and each got a $58 ticket...beware) and the light was enchanting. The reasonably priced Chardonnay I ordered (Hawk Creek, Monterey, 2007) was brilliant. I got home and looked online to order a case of it, then pulled myself back from the precipice, remembering the last time I tried to recreate the ambiance of a special experience by ordering the wine that went with it... without the man, it didn't taste the same at all... but I digress. We appreciated the little extras the chef sent out... an amazing pizza bread and a cheese dumpling of some sort. Our split frutti di mare salad and entrees (mine a chicken-spinach pasta) were delicious and moderately priced compared to other West Side eateries. But the main thing was the feeling of being in that place... something about the night light, the colors, the warmth and the friendliness of the people. I didn't know it was there and didn't expect what we got once we stepped inside, but after so many restaurant experiences in so many big cities, my daughter and I have decided to call this "our place." read more

My 90 year old grandparents are regulars at this place and love it. Although the food is very good, I am giving this place one star because of the way the owner treated my family tonight. The whole restaurant was completely packed and my grandmother wondered why because it's usually very quiet on Sunday nights. When the bill came we found a folded up menu in the pocket with choices of appetizers, entrees and deserts for $25 a person on Sunday and Monday nights only. I asked the owner why we didn't get the special menu and he immediately got defensive and started yelling at me telling me because tonight is he first night and they don't give it to everyone. Excuse me???? You only give the discount menu to some people? His excuses made no sense at all. He knew my grandparents were regulars and not there for the special deal so he held back giving them the menu and gave it to everyone else in the restaurant but us. We ended up paying full price when everyone else in the place was getting a huge discount. He was taking advantage of my sweet grandparents who patronize his restaurant on a weekly basis. This problem could have easily been solved by changing our bill around, but he refused. It's too bad this happened to us tonight because we used to love this place til we realized it's run by sleazy people. read more

Okay, so here's my experience with this restaurant and the owner. I come to the place with business in mind and was thinking about eating there because I heard it was okay food. To my dismay and disappointment, the owner was very arrogant and would not even look at me in the eye and, was rude! His name is Goran Milic, he has a very brush-off attitude is very pompous it seems. I honestly don't see how a person like that can make you feel at home of course, he'll do anything to get your money cuz it's money that he wants so he'll be nice as long as you give them your money. I would not recommend this to anybody based on his attitude that's my opinion. I'm super disappointed. My family and I have been loyal diners at Divino since I was 15 years old in high school. We've hosted parties here, dinners, etc. We developed a great rapport with the owner, Goren, and the service has always been absolutely exceptional. Every time we would walk in, he would greet us with a kiss on the cheek and asked if we wanted our regular table, making a point to make sure everything was lovely for us. Last night my mom, girlfriend and I went to Divino after making a reservation. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Tuesday night and there was one available (dirty- as the diners had just left- but hey! were patient people). They seemed a bit under staffed and like they were running around like chickens with their heads cut off, so we assumed maybe some people had called out sick. Goren, the said owner, was even bussing tables, cleaning up messes, etc. We didn't get his usual greeting, but once again, chalked it up to it being extremely busy. Goren assured us we would be seated shortly, and went about his business. For those of you who have been to Divino, you know there is absolutely no convenient space to wait for your table. You are either in the doorway, or standing on top of someone else while they're trying to enjoy their meal. If you're not seated within a few minutes, you are undoubtedly in the way. After 5 minutes passed and the table we were to be seated at was still dirty and no one, and I mean no one, had been there to clean it up, we were still patient. Ten minutes passed, we moved out of the way a handful of times for people coming in, and people coming out. We avoided servers with hot plates, plates with soup, pastas, sizzling steaks. After twenty minutes of standing in the doorway, Goren assuring us several times we'd be seated momentarily, and in turn no one touching the table to clean it, we gave each other the look and walked out. Had we never been to this restaurant before, we would have vowed to never come here again. But because we have been loyal customers of Goren and Divino for over ten years, this felt a bit like a slap in the face. Normally I'd give Divino 5 stars, but after that experience, it's really a negative 1 review. But I met in the middle at 3. Will I go there again? Unfortunately, I highly doubt it. They lost their loyal customers. read more

After reading multiple reviews regarding this restaurant and seeing that it had Zagat ratings, I actually tried it out for their well perceived Gnocchi. Party of 12, the service was already bad to begin with. The waiter was apathetic, and seemed really annoyed. With the price point of this restaurant, I was expecting small portions of great tasting food. The portions were indeed small, and the price for any dish was $20 or more. The food quality was way below par, for what we were paying. The gnocchi was under flavored, though very soft. The special spinach Rigatoni was also VERY unevenly flavored and bland. The one good food, was the rosemary pizza bread (as many have stated already) and there was one decent Lobster spaghetti special. Everything else was very unimpressive. The waiter only softened up his attitude, after he spilled a plate of spinach and potatoes on my friend's jacket, in which we did not receive discount nor free food. Rather, they offered to pay for the cleaning fee, and left it at that. It was a highly disappointing experience, and i hope others don't feel the same way. However, it will be my first and last time to go to Divino. read more

The food here has become subpar: the Orecchiette Branzino not only had arugula green sauce (as it should have), but the fish part was mysteriously tasteless, not fresh, and flat out icky--my wife was too polite to our guests to send it back (we waited a fairly long time to receive our meal). She ate 2 bites and stopped; I ate one to confirm the disaster The Pappardelle was ok but it had microscopic pieces of Osso Buco. The beet burrata salad and the tricolore salad were seriously unappetizing. The creme caramel and tiramisu were blah. Costco desserts are better. We had to drink a gallon of fine wine -- brought by me to the restaurant -- in order to survive the night. At least the corkage fee was reasonable. It's time for Divino to leave its precious locale and let the new come in. read more

Divino is located in a cul-de-sac in Brentwood. We wouldn't have found it unless we took a nice walk. The restaurant was mostly full, which is a good sign. We were underdressed for this restaurant as the rest of the people were in evening attire (perhaps that accounts for why it took fairly long to be seated even though there were quite a few tables available). Once we were seated, we ordered some sparkling water and some wine. The service was very good. The ambiance is somewhat romantic, lightly dimmed which was nice. The Minestrone soup was delicious, although cold. The Divino salad, greens with feta cheese, diced tomatoes, and pine nuts was quite good. My girlfriend ordered the gnocchi and I ordered seafood linguini. The gnocchi were very soft, and didn't quite resembled what I am used to, but my girlfriend liked it. The pasta was ok tasting, and was in ample portion. All in all a pretty good dining experience, though it felt a bit on the snobbish side. On the downside, the bill for the type of food was on the high side as it came to nearly $100 for two people, which we didn't think was worth it. I can't see myself craving for this place again, but not a bad place, just pricey. read more

I couldn't think of one poor issue with this restaurant itself. Outside of poor parking options, this is the perfect date night outting. The room is tight and cozy and the food was delicious (gnocchi with meat sauce) and the zucchini ravioli was even better. The best part? Their service. read the generally excellent reviews and was swayed to give divino a try. sorry to say that it didn't live up to those reviews. the wait staff was inattentive with an attitude...i found the friendliness of the busboys refreshing and wished they had waited on us. the food was overpriced and not memorable in the least. the chicken fantastico was a decent sized portion but poorly presented and overcooked. spinach salad was pretty good. the tiramisu was a tiny potion and overpriced at $9.50 and almost all cream. only redeeming part of the night is that we lucked out and picked a good bottle of wine from the interesting wine list. won't return. read more
