Enjoyed a casual southern lunch with family at Dixie Grill on a stormy day. There is a large parking lot and I found parking in the first row by the restaurant. Puddles of water was all around us but we all like the rain and we were all dressed in our casual clothes anyway. The hostess sat us down at a table near to large screen tvs playing bowl games and it was a pretty full restaurant. We were glad to get a table. I took photos of the food and drink menus. I liked reading the creative liquor drinks even if I'm not a drinker except for coffee/foo foo drinks. I ordered my usual favorite- fried catfish with grits and coleslaw. The catfish is moist and fried just enough so the fish does not fall apart. My mom ordered the snow crab and other family members got the ribs. Delicious and cleaned the plates. We all ordered dessert. I had the chocolate pie and it was perfectly made - yummy decadent indulgent chocolate topped with delicate whipped cream. We have had take out before and it hit the spot! We had tried the meat platers and catfish and decided to dine inn for a birthday celebration. Our family was expecting great fresh food since take out was good but not sure what happened. Maybe a day off for the cook? My burger was not seasoned at all, tried to save it with salt and some bbq sauce but i feel that should be the cherry on top not the food saver. My kids chicken tenders had no flavor! The catfish was way off that my daughter didn't even finish hers which never happens. The meat platter came out warm and was cold within 3 minutes. When my kids say "we should have gone to mcdonalds" i said no way then i took a bite of their food and said the same thing. Probably will pass on this from now on. read more

So it was my first time being here to eat ( I have one prior experience at the bar in the evening). So it was a cute setting, very casual and tv's all over to entertain people. The experience me, my two friends and my friends child had was something else. Our waitress Savannah didn't give much of a good customer service experience. She came to ask if we wanted appetizers and after only one of us ordered she literally walked away not allowing any of us to order anything else. It was pretty full but they were fully staffed in different sections. My friend asked for a take out box and got an empty cup with no water or anything in his cup. She also took a long time to ring us up. She didn't smile or ask how anything was. The servers were very polite, I wish they helped us instead. Savannah did make sure our soft drinks were full tho so that was the only plus. We got the catfish with beans and mashers and gravy, I also got the Mac and cheese. So the catfish was juicy, tender and cooked amazingly. Sadly there was no seasoning at all on the food. The Mac and cheese tasted like box Mac and cheese, the beans tasted like bush's and the mashers and gravy tasted like water (it had instant mash vibes and didn't even taste like it had butter in it). Also with the sides the temperatures were very different where you could tell certain things were sitting and got cold. It was a meh experience and I guess I should've looked on Yelp to see what things were rated higher food wise but that's on me. Idk if I would ever come back or ever recommend here to anyone. My wife and I came here for dinner per her request. No issue with parking as they have a good parking lot out front and overflow area. We checked in with the hostess, showed our vaccine cards, signed in, and waited for about 10 mins to be seated. There were a few other couples outside waiting with us. We were seated in their patio area which proved to be a little windy on this day to the point I found myself crossing my arms to avoid a chill. Not a big deal but something to be aware of if seated outside. The server brought popcorn in a basket, although a little stale, but we had to hold the basket from flying away at times. The server took our drink order and I had my usual sweet tea which comes in a tall glass. My wife ordered a mojito which she noted they did not skimp on the alcohol. I wasn't impressed with my sweet tea which is unusual for Dixie Grill as it tasted watered down. I wanted to tell our server but she was nowhere to be found for awhile and by the time we received our food, there was no sense getting another tall glass. I ordered two meats- pork and brisket with two sides- mashed potatoes and gravy, and bbq baked beans. I enjoyed my meal which is hard to go wrong when you put bbq sauce on it. My wife had a burger and fries which she indicated the fries tasted like freezer burn. We typically enjoy the Dixie Grill but weren't wowed on this occasion. read more

I placed an order through Grubhub on Halloween. First of all, I received 2 delayed delivery messages. Im not sure why. I ordered buffalo wings, extra crispy with fries. I received 3 pieces of wings that weren't cooked thoroughly (see photos). I was very disappointed and upset this happened. Perhaps they were in a rush to close up for Halloween that my order was not complete, but doesn't make it right though. The ceiling looked wet (most likely from the raining day), their chairs seemed as if they were about to break and the overall restaurant looked like it could be better. However, we got a great server (forgot her name) but she was friendly and was on top of it. Took care of our party of 8 and everything was good. The food was good, i had the cuban sandwhich. Met some friends here on a Friday night and sat at an outside table/bench. Seats 8 just fine! The beers are 16 or 32oz! I love that. I opted for a 16oz Lagunitas IPA, but the 32's are impressive - my friends swear by the mai tais. The ambiance is relaxed and fun. The food is good. I ate the smoked pork poutine fries and a side of coleslaw. Next time I'll try either the brisket plate or the fish n chips. Lots of good choices. And they have 6 different bbq sauces! Sooo delicious! I'd definitely come back here! There is also a saloon upstairs called Whiskey Dix - which was AMAZING FUN- that I'll share a post about on that page . Was not satisfied with the brisket. It was dry and lacked flavor. When I mentioned it to the waiter the only thing she said was "would you like me to take it off your ticket". Haven't been here since they moved to Aiea. Last time was when they were on Ward. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. We also got the crab salad, cajun calamari, and the firecracker shrimp. The calamari was very good. The shrimp was like buffalo sauce. The salad was very good. I really enjoyed the chicken fried steak. Mild flavor but very generous portion. Its hard to fond chicken fried steak on this island. The service was good. Got seated right away, even though it was happy hour. Food came out pretty quick. Its a little loud but in a fun way. Good family place with some games and lanai seating. We live in Aiea so I think we will go back again. read more

It's been awhile since I visited Dixie Grill. Why have I waited this long?? I ordered the catfish plate. Wow. Absolutely delicious. Flaky white fish with a light crispy coat on the outside. Please give my compliments to the chef. The sauce that it comes with is so good. I tasted a hit of lime. I'm assuming it's some sort of tater sauce. My sides I picked were Mac n cheese and cold slaw. The Mac n cheese was great. The cold slaw was ok. My opinion, I love Mayo. It was lacking Mayo. But I still ate it. Plenty of catfish too. The portion was so much, that I couldn't eat it all! Despite passing by Dixie Grill for many years, I finally got to try them last month. I love Southern BBQ and I heard good things about this place from family. Sad to say our experience didn't live up to the expectations. We were immediately sat outside in their little patio like area and when we got there, it was packed outside. But luckily, we had the whole outside to ourselves right as we ordered our food. We got the calamari and smoked pork poutine for appetizers. We had entrees like the pig tail mac and cheese, I got the 3 meat combo with pulled pork, beef brisket and andouille sausage and cornbread casserole and mac and cheese as my sides, my mom got the beef brisket sandwich and my boyfriend got half a rack of ribs with mac and cheese and brussel sprouts. I'll say the highlights were the calamari and smoked pork poutine. Except the poutine needed more gravy. But overall, the food was disappointing. Meat was just okay. By itself, it didn't have much flavor to it as I really had to load it with BBQ sauce. I also wasn't a fan of the sausage as it was pretty rubbery. The side mac and cheese was extremely bland. On the menu, they note they use 3 type of cheese in the pig tail mac and cheese and we quickly found out one of those cheese was gorgonzola. It was overpowering and just gave the dish a sour note. On top of that, service was really lacking. We ended up having to grab sauces from another table, go up to someone to ask for more napkins and remind our waitress about drinks we ordered. We saw the busboy more than our waitress. Overall, really disappointing experience and wouldn't come back here again. read more

Remember when there was Tony Roma's in Waikiki they had the best ribs. Now Dixie grills ribs are moist and succulent,combined with their rub and grilled to perfection. One rack can feed 3 people . Add the extra side to compliment it. Fas and courteous service. The drink price during happy hour are reasonable. Good place to watch football with draft beer or shots. There aren't many southern bbq places on Oahu, so my fiancé and I make an effort to come to Dixie Grill any time we're in Pearl City. It NEVER disappoints us. I am somewhat of a popcorn connoisseur, so the fact that this place always brings out a basket of popcorn to start with will grant automatic points in my book. Most recently, we went last night. The waitresses were a little less attentive but that was definitely our fault for coming around 8:30. They are usually super friendly when we go though so I wasn't too bothered by it. The food was still bangin, though! My fiancé ordered the country fried steak with coleslaw (he always orders coleslaw anywhere that it's offered) and the mashed taters. They didn't have any mashed haters so he settled for the Brussels sprouts. Best mistake ever. They are our new favorite side dish from here. They deep fry them so they're extra crispy and then toss em in some sort of sweet and tangy sauce. Idk what the sauce is but I'm convinced it's magic. I ordered the pulled pork Mac n cheese, which I've had before but couldn't stay away from. This time it was a little less cheesy, but honestly the pulled pork on top was so soft and juicy I didn't miss it. It kind of reminded me of the ribs they have, I was wondering if that was the meat they used. I also ordered a side of the cornbread casserole for us to share and it was so good. so buttery and soft, nothing like normal cornbread. I'm personally not a big fan of corn kernels in my cornbread but my fiancé loves it so it could be a me thing lol. This place deserves a lot more love. Went to Dixie Grill with my daughter for a ladies day lunch. We were craving some good southern style bbq so we thought we'd give it a try. We went on a Monday around noonish and it was very easy to get a table. We opted for outdoors at one of the picnic tables. The sign at the entrance said to seat ourselves so we did! The restaurant is off the main road with an outdated sign but the entrance was inviting. It's an open air dining room so it really didn't make too much of a difference if we sat in or outside. The only downside was the flies. They were EVERYWHERE. They would not leave us alone and when our food came, forget it. The flies were awful. Our server was prompt and brought our drinks quickly (Diet Coke & roasted lemonade) the lemonade came in a huge mug! Very good. She also brought out a basket of complimentary popcorn. It was nice and buttery and salty. We ordered the frickles with spicy aioli and they were delicious. We each ordered Smoker 2 with 2 Sides. I had the pulled pork, brisket, macaroni salad, and coleslaw. My daughter had the cheddar meatloaf, turkey, fries, and mashed potatoes and gravy. The pulled pork was tasty but a bit dry. The brisket was super yummy. It was tender and had a nice layer of fat. Just how I like it. The macaroni salad was ok. It's not Hawaiian Mac salad. It's definitely a southern macaroni salad. Not bad but not Hawaiian Mac salad level. Coleslaw was good. Nothing to write home about. The cheddar meatloaf was delicious. The flavors were so good! The turkey was similar to the pulled pork. Kinda dry. Fries were nice and crispy, the mashed potatoes were pretty much what we expected. Restaurant potatoes & gravy. Not bad but not great. The server brings a big basket with different southern bbq sauces to enjoy. That was a nice touch. The brisket and meatloaf stole the show. Portions were big and prices very fair. The 3 stars are because the food tastes great.. I deducted two stars (all my reviews start out at 5) because the phone order service is trash. I ordered ahead because I dint have time to wait on my lunch break. when I arrived I was greeted by a young hostess in a purple shirt who ask me how she could help. I told the hostess I was there to pick up my order. She replied "ok just go sit at the bar" they'll bring it out..... I decided not to react naturally. I went to the bar... I didn't see anyone tending the bar. I did see an older gentleman eating his food next to where I was sitting. After waiting patiently for ten minutes or so.... I went back to the hostess and told her "I'm just picking up a takeout order, they said it'd be fifteen minute, but that was longer than 15 minutes ago and I've been sitting at the bar for a while now'. She told me "just try waiting around there"... she shoooed me to the front of the bar, when it wouldn't have taken very much effort to get the bar tender's attention and tell them I was waiting on my food. My food was there, getting cold, behind the cashier's machine. Trash. The bartender was polite and cashed me out. Dixie owner/operator the food is good, please improve your to-go order service. It ain't like mama fixed it... first thing that came to my mind. Had the fried pickles to start, just awful they do the full spears that pull out of the breading. For my meal I went with catfish, with smoked Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes n gravy. Didn't finish did not take it home with me. The Mac n cheese looks like Kraft out of a box and I am wondering if they get the smoke flavor with liquid smoke or chemicals, it doesn't make sense. Beer was ice cold and server was attentive. I received my cod and wavy fries but the cod was definitely sitting in oil for a bit because you can tell and the ends were very crispy. As soon as the fries cooled off they were very hard. Hubby, daughter, mother in law and myself came here for an early dinner. It was already busy inside but we got sat at the table outside. Our nice waitress got our drink orders. Fountain drinks are not refillable. They charge for a refill. Rip off! I got an iced water and fish and chips for my entree. The crinkle cut fries were good although my fish tasted like it was frozen. I only ate the fish inside and some of the crispy layer on the outside. The ketchup was of the thicker kind. It was okay but I like my regular ketchup. Service was good and the waitress checked up on us a few times. My food was just okay. I'm not much of a meat eater and I try to go healthy.
