First time here and it was terrible. Dont get me wrong the food is good, but the service here will make everything taste bad. Nobody here wants to work except one or two servers, unfortunately neither of them were mine. I sat at the bar because of the crowd thinking that it would go smoother than it seemed to be for the seven parties that were waiting forever. The general manager clearly had been drinkin on the job and had run ins with several customers, so its safe to say it wasnt them all. I was brought here by a friend, so they dont have to worry about me again anyhow. Food was decent. Customer service was horrible. Waited 20 mins for our waitress to get our drink orders. Took about an hour for my appetizers to come out. There was only 5 if us in our party. I ordered fried plantain that came out burnt and my greens were tough and bland. The manager told me there were no refunds and or exchanges if the greens weren't good more people would complain and I had to just deal with it. Worst customer service I ever experienced. I am new to Chicago and have traveled the world. And was Referred Dixie Kitchen. I have eaten here 3 days in Row. The Jerk wings are real from the islands. Never hadAny jerk sauce that taste this good. The spaghetti is amazing and the red beans and rice you have to try the sides. The service is outstanding and I give them an A+. They have the actual Pat O'Brien's Hurricane mix and their Swamp Water drink tastes just like a Grenade. Now to the food. Everything I've tried there has been delicious. If you do make it out, you HAVE to get their jumbalaya. It would be a 5-star review if it weren't for the slow service we've received on a couple occasions. We waited for over an hour for food which was good. Unfortunately I have nothing good to say about this business tonight. I decided to try Dixie Kitchen at their new location by calling my order in. Well after dialing the number for the fourth time and listening to it RING and RING and RING, I finally said perhaps they are super busy and can't get to the phone. I have eaten at this establishment at the old location and the food was good so I decided to drive over, place my order in person and wait. I decided I would also ask if they had a new number. After an extended wait, the manager, who was the only one working the front counter acknowledged me, I greeted her and said, "hey is your phone working because I've been calling?" She said with sarcasm and hand on one hip, "I took it off the hook". It was at that moment, that I turned to walk out of the door. No Mamam, your food is NOT that good that you would sacrifice Excellent customer care and even more that I would accept it. Perhaps a 2nd person at the front counter would help and the Manager could manage and not appear so overwhelmed. If the phone was off hook because the call volume was high, perhaps a 3rd person could be hired to oversee that area. Take the "call in" option off your website if you can't handle this function. So to recap; your customer service left a very bad taste and I choose not to be bother, especially if management has no issues with this behavior. I lived in Louisiana for several years and this place is equal or better than the ones in Cajun country. The gumbo is excellent as well as the jambalaya, po-boys, shrimp, oysters, etc. Peach cobbler is very good too. The Southern Sampler is a sure shot palate pleaser! Kept getting passed up for "regular diners". 2hrs later we were finally seated when one of our members who is a regular diner talked to the manager. A hour later we were given our food order with a 20% added charge for a tip for a invisible waiter. When complaining to the lady blonde manager was told we work as a team. The team was asked over 4 times to refill a coffee from various staff. Umm lady your team was missing. Service is horrible!! The general manager is extremely unprofessional and has a piss poor attitude with complete lack of customer service skills Was never offered dessert, was more in a rush just to push us out of the restaurant. Asked for a menu to see the desserts and never came back to take the dessert order. I first ate at Dixie Kitchen and Bait Shop when it was located in Hyde Park; (Chicago,Illinois). I was very pleased when a location opened in Lansing, Illinois about 12 years ago. Through the years I have taken many friends from out of town there to eat. I have always been pleased with the service and food UNTIL NOW! I requested CANDIED SWEET POTATOES from the waiter and he gave me a LUMP OF MASHED SWEET POTATOES. HE didnt say we only have mashed sweet potatoes UNTIL AFTER THE FOOD WAS SERVED. I wasnt offered a replacement. There is a big difference between sliced sweet potatoes with the wonderful juice; that generates the CANDIED FLAVOR and a DARK HUNK OF MESS which I received. When I asked the waiter Mike, where are my Candied Sweet potatoes he replied "THATS WHAT WE HAVE". IF I HAD BEEN TOLD THEY WERE MASHED WHEN I REQUESTED CANDIED SWEET POTATOES; I WOULD NOT HAVE ORDERED THEM! A GREAT WAITER know the difference. Employees have an infant baby in the kitchen while preparing food. Absoluter ridiculous. Terrible manager. I order an alcohol beverage that tasted terrible and too strong. I took two sips and i told the waitress i am unable to drink this. So she sends for the manager possibly owner. I had a blast last night! The food was excellent; the service was wonderful, no complaints at all. They even had a live dj! I felt as if I was at the Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I've started only coming to this place for their excellent fried green tomatoes, and I get those to go. They have gone down in quality. They need to clean the place, improve upon customer service, and turn down the music so people seated near the bar can hear themselves. The final straw for me was the CASH ONLY change. I rarely even carry cash. My mom stays around the corner, and I used to make more frequent stops to take her some "home cooked food" on the go, but since I don't always think to stop at the bank for cash, and refuse to PAY to use their ATM, they miss my business now. It's BERY rare that a food establishment doesn't take debit/credit cards these days. People who didn't see starting. No one is going on the other direction!
