Hidden gem at the John Wayne Marina. We had the calamari, Reuben and fish tacos. Calamari--It was lightly breaded, pepper-y and fried to perfection. With a squeeze of lemon. Yum! Fish tacos served with some slaw on homemade corn tortillas. Husband enjoyed them with a side of saffron basmati rice. Reuben--This was my favorite. The rye bread was out of this world good! Ratio of meat to bread was just right. It was so good I saved half so I could enjoy it again. And the dipping sauce for my sweet potato fries reminded me of bread pudding. Nice balance to the saltiness of the pastrami. The best part of it all? The staff and service. They were very pleasant and welcoming and very attentive. No cup was ever empty and our table was cleared quickly. They were all great! Thank you for this wonderful dining experience! My husband and I went to the Dockside Grill for dinner last Wednesday. We did not have a reservation, but we were seated in about 15 minutes. The hostess was ok, seemed a but flustered, and just let us wait in the small entry without communicating how long it would be to be seated. We were finally seated at a 2 seater table by a wall in the back room. The kitchen must be on the other side of the wall as there was frequent banging occurring from the other side. Our waitress was polite, but not overly friendly. We did find her to be very efficient as she was serving about 5-6 tables in the back room and handling it well. The food was fine, but I found it to be somewhat disappointing. The stuffed mushrooms appetizer was good. Definitely the best thing that we ordered. The fried calamari appetizer was ok, it was more deep-fried (over fried) than flash fried as stated on the menu. My husband's entree, linguine and clams, was ok - it seemed to be missing something (herbs?) or possibly too much broth...? Also, it seemed like the linguine was on top of the clams, instead of the clams on top of the linguini and maybe that is why the linguini looked (and tasted) so bland. As mentioned, the service by our server was good once we were seated. I was disappointment with the food, however, I would give DG another chance next time we are in town. read more

We stopped in for an appetizer, after a day of driving and exploring. We initially went in just for the calamari, but ended up ordering the Scallops and tortellini as well. OMG! It was all soooo good! The tortellini was creamy, cheesy and full of flavor. The scallops? They melted in your mouth! They were un-F'ing believable!! They were cooked perfectly and the sauce was amazing. We ending up sopping it up with our bread after the scallops were gone! They were a little pricey for what you get (3 scallops), but in our opinion they were definitely worth it! The service was, again in our opinion, perfect as well. They were attentive, but gave us our space to enjoy each others' company. The food came hot and quick. They were busy when we arrived and had to wait for about 30 minutes (the place is small), but like I said, it was definitely worth the wait!! read more

Come hungry!!! This was our second trip up to sequim, about 2 1/2 hrs from where we live. The food here is like no other. It's so delicious, everything from start to finish. If you're in the area I highly recommend you going (10 people in our group and we're all foodies & we all just can't say enough about the food and service here!!) Extremely rude hostess that was blatantly lying about walk up table availability. Called to check availability when about ten minutes away, got voicemail and left message. Called again few minutes later, got through and was told there while reservations were booked there were walk up tables. Ok great! Drove over. My wife goes in as I park and then she comes storming out not 30 seconds later: not only does the place reek of spoiled fish but the hostess, without making eye contact, was like "sorry we are full." My wife, incredulous, recapped the phone conversation from five minutes prior. To which the hostess replied "Oh well the tables are full now." We get back on the road. Five minutes later hostess returns my first call, not recognizing my voicemail, to ask if I wanted to come down since "there looks to be walk up tables available but they aren't guaranteed..." I used to love this restaurant but the last time we were there I witnessed an incident that was disgusting. A couple came in, they told the hostess they had a reservation, she had them step aside while going to get another employee who came out and looked at the couple and spoke to the hostess. The woman was overweight and the impression I got was they didn't want to seat her where other customers would see her. Finally, after other people who came in after them had been seated, another employee came out and seated the couple. I heard the woman ask what the problem was since they had a reservation, but the employee just shook her head. I had heard of this kind of prejudice but never witnessed it. This place is truly a gem on the Olympic Peninsula. While you will spend a good deal of coin ( especially if you have some adult beverages) , the atmosphere, small size, and view of the marina is excellent. It is not loud, not too pretentious, and the staff is super nice. When some people complain about reservations vs walk-up seating, please recognize this is a small restaurant. Plan ahead and make the reservation. While there was some available seating when we arrived, we saw quite the ebb and flow of open tables. Now as far as the food and experience? Top notch. My wife and I enjoyed our meals, and took leftovers back to our airb&b for dinner the next day. It was intimate and a terrific choice for a Mother's Day getaway. read more

Out of state visitors on July 7th. Fantastic staff, food and experience. Stopped by without a reservation and was told there was no availability. We were standing outside, making new plans when Melody, came out, told us there had been a cancellation and they did have a table. We had the "special" Alaskan King Salmon. Absolutely the best salmon ever and prepared perfectly. We enjoyed Max's presentation of desert specials and his attentiveness to detail. We received a special dessert (on the house) in recognition of our 50th Anniversary. Thanks to Melody, Max and Chef for an A+++ evening! read more

Our group of eight recently had dinner at the Dockside. The food and service was outstanding. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. Our only criticism is that they had us wait outside for close to thirty minutes for our table. Even with our reservation, we stood outside in the cold even though our table was prepared and empty. They made some excuse about their policy not seating people when they're short staffed. Wouldn't it have made better sense to seat us, and perhaps sell some cocktails? Although the meal was outstanding and we had a nice dinner, the experience left us with a bad taste. read more

We enjoyed our lunch. I would recommend making reservations. The restaurant seemed pretty full and I don't think we were six feet from the table next to us. Maybe 3 feet. All staff wore masks properly (over the nose). We ordered a couple of cocktails which were okay. We got raw oysters and crab cakes which were both pretty good but not the best I've had. Same goes for the chowder. The coconut prawns were good and the dipping sauce was great. I wish I they gave 6 prawns instead of 4. The fries were really good. My boyfriend got the burger and it was great. Service was excellent. Attentive without being over bearing. Overall I would give it 3.5 stars if 3 is good and 4 is great. read more

While on a brief vacation in the area, and in selecting a special restaurant to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary, we chose the Dockside Grill. We were not disappointed. The staff is so courteous and professional. They seated us right on time. We started our meal with crab and shrimp stuffed Portobello mushrooms and followed that with their house salad topped with a marvelous balsamic vinaigrette. My wife had a halibut filet topped with a crab sauce. I had their classic Pacific Northwest Cioppino. The meal was amazing and the service was top drawer. We watched the young waiter show the desert tray to an adjacent table, but just could not partake after our meal. Next time for sure. The Mud Pie looked tempting. If you are in the Sequim area and looking for a "special place for dinner", I highly recommend the Dockside Grill. read more

Anything for fresh oysters, I am telling you! We ordered take out from this divine little spot and had a picnic right on the marina. It was so COOL. The restaurant was pretty, but the social distancing was a little off for me, personally. No big, we just ordered to go. We ordered a lot of food too - but them FRESH oysters were amazing with the lemon and cocktail sauce. The caesar salad was a tad bland, but the mac and cheese was super tasty. The bacon, chicken sandwich was also pretty good. The main reason I went was because I wanted the oysters and they also have french onion soup on the menu that was so tasty. We were originally going to eat on the patio, but they stated the patio could only hold 2 people per table, so this note is just to reference that. All in all, a really great afternoon by the water with some yummy food. read more

Excellent ambience and service! Super friendly, very attentive. Food came out at a great pace. Food: 1. Crab and shrimp stuffed mushrooms - 5/5. Came with 7 giant pieces. So savory and tender. The sauce it came with was so good we ended asking for more bread to dip in it. Highly recommend. 2. Dozen oysters - 4.5/5. The oysters were pretty good and the sauces it came with were yummy as well. Definitely satisfied my oyster craving. 3. Calamari - 4.5/5. Solid calamari. 4. Seafood bisque 4.5/5. It was a lot creamier than I expected but there was a good amount of crab pieces and it was pretty tasty with bread. 5. Fettuccine alfredo with shrimp - 5/5. This was a very good fettuccine. Sometimes people make it too salty or too heavy. I felt it was the perfect flavor balance. 6. Bouillabaisse - 3/5. This was my first time eating this dish so this may be an unfair rating because I don't know how it's supposed to taste and I don't have anything to compare it to. It had a smokey bell pepper flavor which isn't my jam. Other reviews loved this though so you may still like it. Overall excellent food surpassed by even better service. Would definitely come back here with friends or family. We ate at another sit down in Port Angeles that was the same price and this had much better food, service and ambience. If you're staying at Olympic Lodge, this is worth the drive. read more

I was skeptical after had a bad seafood dinner at Port Angeles, but what a great surprise: the seafood here are the best I have ever had, the oyster stew, the sea food stew in tomorrow sauce, the mushroom sauce appetizer... everything was perfect, served in very warm temperature, the staff was also warm and kind. Ordered the coconut prawns, old cooking oil or bad prawns? Either or, just bad! Cesar salad... holy cow... hold the store bought dressing! One and only highlight were the calamari appetizers. We know good seafood diners and this was sadly a huge disappointment. Overpriced for the view!?!?! Go for a glass of wine and enjoy the view, but don't waste the time eating here! read more

The appetizer (stuffed mushrooms), crab melt, and pasta with clams, plus dessert, somehow wasn't all too heavy for 2 people because of the amazing ingredients. Not a good feeling about this place. The gal I spoke to on the phone used the same canned response (we are short staffed and haven't listened to phone messages". Sorry there is nothing I can do. Tired weary travelers we were as we found this place on a Saturday night but we found a great place. We didn't have reservations & they were full luckily there was a table outside. We ate off of the specials list & regular appetizer menu. The crab & shrimp stuffed mushrooms, baked oysters, house salad & seafood bisque soup were all very good. I called and they offer to give me prices on anything I wanted but since I was lunching with two other people I didn't want to be their "secretary". They claim that the prices get copied and pasted by outsiders and used nefariously. (not sure why other establishments don't seem to have that issue.) We opted out of Dockside Grill because none of us on fixed incomes want to be surprised or embarrassed by pricing once we are seated at the table and we sure don't want to wash dishes! Delightful! Right at the Marina doc with lovely view! Had the seafood salad. Never had fresher or better scallops, crab or shrimp; cooked to perfection. We'll be back for dinner next time.
