Went to Dokodemo on their opening night and I see great things for this new East Village gem of a restaurant. They have a simple menu with a couple offerings that all make for a well-rounded tasty meal. The food is made to order and is very fresh, and you can see the chefs take personalized care in your dishes to provide an excellent dining experience. I had the beef yakisoba and the shrimp takoyaki, and both were fantastic. The beef yakisoba had a very clean refreshing feel to it; not oily or too much sauce. The shrimp takoyaki had a soft texture that bursts with flavor. Overall, both items were very satisfying and I'd definitely order them again! My friend brought me to this new Japanese pancake place. Their okonomiyaki, Japanese style of pancake is fluffy. I loved their pork one. However, my best is their sukiyaki omelet, steak in omelet. Came across this interesting new Japanesee restaurant while searching for a place to eat with my friends one evening. The place was cozy, but we were the only ones in. We had just the urge to try Japanese street food and what we got was better than expected. We had the Takoyaki and the Okonomiyaki, both of which were exquisite. The takoyaki are balled wheat flour typically filled with minced or diced octopus, tempura scraps, pickled ginger, and green onion. It was soft, tasty and declicious. We couldn't get enough. Each bite was enough to send us to heaven. Next was the Okonomiyaki, which is a Japanese style pancake. Also very delicious. It was extremely savory and blew our minds how good it was. Definitely get it with beef, that is the pairing that goes best with the Okonomiyaki! We will definitely be returning here. Takoyaki here is amazing! We got the 8 pieces for $8.50. Order up at the cashier and sit wherever you want. There's not that much seating, maybe enough for 20 people. They make the takoyaki upon order, so it's super fresh and you may have to wait a bit for it to finish cooking. We waited about 10-15 min for ours. Trust me, it's worth it. Food here is good, the taste is consistent with what you get on Japanese streets, but with too few options which makes the dishes taste more or less the same. They need to expand their staff team for better management. As when we went there around 9pm on Saturday, the lobby was full and they were so busy that they gave us the wrong dish ordered by another table. They then gave our dish to the that table and asked them if they are okay with what we ordered(which was more expensive). I wish I had pictures, but this cute place has a variety of quick and small Japanese style tapas you need. They're famous for their takoyaki but it wasn't that good in my opinion, the outside was so soft that it always broke apart when we tried picking it up, which isn't something that should happen to takoyakis. It should be slightly crispy on the outside but this was just browned not crispy at all. That was very disappointing because texture is very important in food. The one good thing I had was their okonomiyaki, stir fried cabbage and mix of vegetable with any meat/seafood topping choice. I came here midday with a friend to try it out. It wasn't busy. We ordered the beef stir fried ramen and the chicken japanese pizza and they were just okay. I had really high expectations from the reviews but it didn't wow me. There was a really strong ginger taste from both of them which i didnt really like. What a gem of a place! They have only been open for a few months, but already you can tell that customers are coming and leaving happy, and in telling their friends about this place. We came for lunch and it was not crowded, but I can see how it may get crowded on the weekends or after work. There is limited high top tables seatings and all along the wall. There is also space outside that is covered. Everything was so delicious and made to order, so piping hot and fresh! For two, we shared 4 takoyaki balls, 1 okonomiyaki, and 1 sukiyaki omelet. I like the fact that they use curvy thick ramen noodles for their yakisoba since it makes it less mushy. We tried different combinations, and found that their yakisoba matches well with either shrimp, or, weird enough, octopus!! For some reason the octopus in yakisoba didn't get as chewy as in takoyaki, maybe in takoyaki since the pan was too hot and it's sitting there longer in ultra high heat, thus it gets a bit chewier. But with the noodles, it's so tender!! Okonomiyaki was also good but yes I agree with other reviews, was expecting a larger portion and maybe different container for presentations so it'll look more glorious, haha. They use sliced fatty beef and i found it to be too fatty to my liking, so I'll stick with octopus & shrimp! Will still come back though! Good for snacking. read more
