Since Wahib's Middle East restaurant sadly shut down I have yet to find a favorite Middle East restaurant but Dolan's - being a unique mix of East and West - has taken its place when I crave my favorite meat lamb. Yesterday for lunch we had the Big Plate Chicken, lamb skewers and a vegetarian noodle dish. For dessert we tried the honey cake. We liked all the dishes. The server was very polite. I never tried Uyghur food before but now I'm a believer. My wife back a long time ago visited the area of China where Uyghur people lives. She remembers the food being good. So when this placed opened we gave it a shot. Had polo noodles, gosh nan and Laghman All prepared with lamb and great. Laghman made with fresh hand pulled chewy noodles. Polo rice was delish w picked cabbage and yogurt, and gosh nan was suburb. Good balance of flavors and healthy and food with substance. The ambiance is a good unique ethic experience as well. Ordered take out from this place and it was surprisingly good. We've never had Uzbek cuisine before so we did't know how good/bad it would be. We ordered the Big Plate Chicken, Fried Naan with Beef and their Lamb Kebab. The Chicken and the Beef dishes were fantastic. They were well seasoned and full of flavorful. It has been a long time since I learned about Dolan's and I'm surprised it's taken me so long to finally try them! I came with a small group of 3 around 11:30 on a Saturday. The restaurant was not busy at that time but they definitely filled up as the lunch hour progressed. We ordered the classics: laghman, lamb polo, big plate chicken (bone-in) and a few skewers of barbecued lamb. The skewers were the first to come out, and they were generously sized chunks of lamb, tender and juicy. If you're familiar with Chinese style skewer barbecue, this is what all 烤串儿 should aspire to be. The pieces are bigger and the skewers are longer than other places in the SGV that might claim they serve the same thing (Xinjiang BBQ I'm looking at you). The lamb polo and laghman were the next to arrive to our table. I dug into the polo first, as it had been placed right in front of me. Polo is the Uyghur version of pilaf, a cooked rice dish flavored mainly with carrots and lamb. The lamb in this dish was sliced and laid atop the rice, rather than being mixed throughout. I thought it was good, but the portion was small. The next dish to try was the laghman, a saucy and peppery beef and vegetable stir fry served over a nest of these amazing hand pulled noodles. My favorite of everything we ordered; I could have just gotten a plate for myself and I would have been so happy. The last dish was the big plate chicken, one of the most famous/well-known dishes of Uyghur origin. It is a spiced chicken stew served over potatoes and flat hand pulled noodles. The potatoes and noodles serve to soak up most of the sauce from the chicken. Dolan's version of this dish was darker and spicier than I remember having anywhere before. The portion was HUGE, exactly the way "big" plate chicken is meant to be served. I will definitely have to be back, if only to order the laghman again, perhaps with a samsa on the side next time! Really delicious food that is halal. I ordered the laghman (5/5), big plate chicken (4/5), beef manta (4.5/5), and honey cake (4/5). The portions for the big plate chicken is more than enough for 2 people and really good. My favorite dish was the laghman -- soo good and perfect amount of flavor with perfectly cooked noodles. The beef manta is also very good paired with chili sauce and (surprisingly) the sour cream. The honey cake was very unique...some parts were dry but when there was enough cream it was very good. Never had Uyghur cuisine before so it was fun trying something new with my foodie hubby. I have to say that the food is a bit of an acquired taste, so if this is your time, then give it a few tries. We had the big chicken plate and remembered how much I love the flat noodles. In fact I next time I'm going to get the extra noodles or see if they have a plate of just the flat noodles. The extra fee is worth it because it's hand pulled. If you're hunkering for Uyghur cuisine then you might want to give this place a try. Or even if you want to try something new. Staff is nice and there's parking in front. Food is a bit pricey and the place gets loud really fast. Glad we didn't bring the kids as they wouldn't get the spice combo. read more

I had a friend visit from Kyrgystan and she really missed KG food. Since I knew Donlans had lagman, I brought her here. They have 10% off with Yelp check in but be careful since I showed them and they didn't apply it to the bill. Anyhow, lagman was very good! I was happy that their food was authentic! Noodles were hand made and chewy. Their samsa was also excellent. However we did not like the qudoc since we are used to the one with potatoes not cooked carrots. It was also not that flavorful. This was all new to me. I have never in my life eaten Uyghur Cuisine (from the Xinjiang region) until now. Dishes are very thoroughly spiced, so if you enjoy big flavor this is the place for you. Spicy.. yes.. but more pepper-y than the traditional burning sensation spicy. Tip: Due to the heavy spices the taste and smell will continue to linger in your mouth up to two even three hours after your meal. Bring mouth wash if that bothers you. Food Recommendations: Big Chicken Plate: Plate of coated rectangular flat noodles, bone in chicken, bell peppers, and potatoes in spiced chili oil. By far my favorite dish of the lot, goes great with rice. Available in two portion sizes (small and large). Uyghur Goshnaan (meat filling wrapped in dough): The meat filling is good but I definitely think the star is the breading (hot). Everything here was so good! As soon as I walked in I was amazed by the decor. Wonderful ambiance. Mike was my server for this meal and he was super funny and kind. We ordered the big plate chicken, tofu with chives, and goshnaan, but the star of the show was the house tea! Super flavorful. It was so good I stayed an extra 30 minutes just to savor a couple extra pots of it! Portions were great, and I had to order a small order of big plate chicken to go. Please support Uyghur restaurants! I only know of 2 in LA County and both are great. The special tea here is delicious and served in such a nice tea set. We shared a lot of food, including the Uyghur salad (dressing was great), samsa, polo, goshnaan, big plate chicken, diced noodle, lamb Tower Kebab, and baklava. The handmade noodles were all great. My favorite was the diced noodle and lamb Tower Kebab. Their food was a little on the salty side (except for the goshnaan and polo) but you can probably specify if you want less. Dolan's Uyghur Cuisine is awesome! One of my new favorite restaurants in LA. Well, actually the San Gabriel Valley. The indoor dining is inviting, tastefully furnished. We dined outdoors due to Covid and had a reservation. Service was decent. Not great and not bad. The menu has a limited selection but all 7 dishes we ordered were winners! The boneless big plate chicken was fantastic, as was the beef with naan and the pumpkin buns. The laghman with homemade noodles was out of this world. The goshnan meat pie was yummy. Basically you can order anything on their menu with confidence. All 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. I cannot wait to return with out of town friends or family. That good! read more
