Our first visit to Don Pedro's had amazing service. Miguel was friendly, attentive, and honestly the best part of the meal. Unfortunately, the food didn't match the service. Everything tasted overly Americanized with almost no seasoning. The salsa and pico lacked any vibrancy or lime, which didn't give us much hope for the entrées. My arroz con pollo had no real flavor or authenticity, and my fiancé's chicken quesadillas came with a hair in the guacamole. They removed it from the bill, but the damage was done. We had a family dinner here last week. We enjoy the tableside guacamole, fajitas, margaritas. The guac is made at the table which the kids loved. We were looking for a filling lunch before boarding a flight at CLT, and Don Pedro did not disappoint. First of all, the post-Valentine's decor in the place was festive and awesome. Look at that ceiling! We were promptly seated and brought a generous serving of corn chips, mild tomato salsa, and tall ice water glasses. Whenever trying someplace new, I look for the house or chef specials, so I tried the Carnitas de Puerco. That pork was fantastic - slow roasted until tender, and then I'm guessing it is cubed and flashed fried prior to serving. Crispy and well seasoned on the outside, and tender on the inside. It was really enjoyable. The cactus salad was a little bland, and could use a something - maybe a vinegary dressing - and the rice was a little dry. However, mixed with the beans, guacamole, and sour cream, it was a very hearty delicious meal that I would absolutely order again. read more

Everyone loved the environment and the reminder of Mexican culture. We came on karaoke night, which is a win in my book! This was my second time here per a friends suggestion. The first time I came I was turned away as they changed their hours due to Covid and the hours posted didn't reflect their new schedule. This time we came in late and sat at the bar. The bartender was very nice and was helpful in suggesting her favorite margaritas. My friend has a mango frozen and I went with a fresa margarita. This one isn't on the menu but it's made fresh (Jose Cuervo gold, triple sec, freshly squeezed lime juice and something else lol). It was super good but I was a little surprised to see it come up as $13 on the bill. The chips and salsa were good and I also ordered a "small cheese quesadilla" which I later found out was just their regular size appetizer ($8.95). It was good but way too cheesy for me (if that's even a thing) and got kind of hard to eat because you had the inside and outside covered in cheese so I just had half. It was convenient and overall a good late night snack but probably not my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. read more

This is my go-to place for Mexican food for takeout and lunch. Their queso is one of my favorites in Charlotte they also have a great fresh guacamole if you are dining in. My boyfriend tends to get the fajitas and I will mix it up. Every dish that I've gotten there has always been good quality. The quesadilla, the chimichanga and the chicken tostadas are a common go-to. if you are in the area I definitely recommend it. read more

Always down for a new Mexican spot. So i decided to try them out for the first time after always passing them by. Figure they may be sort of a big deal since another Mexican restaurant i frequently visit mentioned Don Pedro's one day in anger as if Don Pedro's was their biggest competitor. So i said "self" lets go see what the hoopla about. When i arrived the one thing that stood out to me here was the employees all were dressed alike in gear from their culture which i off the bat thought was cool. The next thing that strikes me for sure is the bar. Someone put some kind of thought into the skull as the backdrop of the bar etc. Now lets get to the food. You guys i am so mad because i accidentally deleted all of my pictures from my phone except for my drink, which i had a mango margarita. I ordered a chicken/rice and beans platter which was pretty good, the rice was a little dry but everything for the most part was OK. The staff here, everyone and i mean everyone was super friendly, and attentive. I don't know rather or not this is protocol but once i finished up my meal my waiter brought me out what appeared to be some type of sweet dessert chip with which cream and strawberries on top. If you need a classic, decent, affordable Tex-Mex spot without any fancy fru-fru additions, Don Pedro's is your place to be. My favorite part about it is the fact that it is huge so I've never had to wait for a table, even with a large group. I would not call their food gourmet by any stretch of the imagination, but you get what you pay for. They also have Dos Equis Amber on tap and serve it in two different sizes, which is nice. Their margaritas are your classic sugar mix, again, you get what you pay for. I see this place basically everyday but never thought much of it. Today I had a craving for Mexican food. I googled this place and to my delight it has a ton of positive reviews about the food and service. I decide to check it out after work. The place was empty so service was quick. I ordered a shrimp dish on a bed of lettuce and a cheese quesadilla with fries for my son. My food came out and I didn't know what to think. The shrimp were big and split down the middle but not devained. So I literally had to clean the shrimp myself before tasting it. It was flavorful, but I could not get past the black vein staring me in the face. I lifted the lettuce to get some rice but for some reason there was a layer of cheese between the rice and lettuce. The melted cheese on the lettuce made it unpalatable. My son's quesadilla was filled with cold cheese and there was a thick layer of cheese on top of the quesadilla too. My son did not touch it. There was a server and bustboy (woman) standing a table away from us the entire time we were at the restaurant. It was bad enough that the food was not edible, but I had to try to enjoy this experience under the watchful eyes of restaurant staff. My server was diligent in ensure my sweet tea stayed full. But that's about it. She never checked to see how I liked my meal or if I needed anything else. I had to ask the bustboy for my server so I could pay my bill. When I was leaving, my server was standing near the entrance conversing with another server. I waved and told her goodbye. She looked at me but did not respond. So much for the great customer service everyone boasts about. read more
