I don't understand how this place doesn't have five stars. This is the best breakfast place in Carlsbad, in my opinion. Every time my husband and I go there the food is fresh, hot, and delicious! I usually get the Zorba with American cheese instead of feta with their crispy hash browns--so good! All the veggies in the Zorba are fresh--never frozen and never soggy. My husband gets something new every time and he absolutely loves everything he's had there. Their banana walnut pancakes are amazing! So are their blueberry pancakes, they always use fresh, plump berries every time. The service is great, too; the women who work there (we've never had a male server, it is usually the same three or four women working every time) are always prompt and friendly. It can get pretty busy on the weekends, but my husband and I are early birds so we've never had to wait for a table. read more

I go to both Kitchens but I prefer going to this Carlsbad location simply because they serve the chorizo benedict. I have yet to order anything else. I'm addicted to this simple yet oh so damn delicious plate of food! Honestly, the only time I ever try the other food is when my girl orders so I just pick off her plate. Don has a great location down in Carlsbad Village. You're always greeted with a smile when you come to Don's. They have tables outside so you can enjoy the weather and be a weirdo and watch people pass by, I'm that weirdo. You can always sit inside at the table or at the bar. The place always has patrons but funny enough you don't need to wait long to sit down. The food comes out at a great pace if not a very fast pace. Your coffee will always be topped off. They have a great menu and even specials posted on their walls. Please get the Chorizo Benedict!!! The stuff hash browns are amazing as well. You'll always leave full which is alright, just take a couple of laps around the Village and you'll be fine! I'll always come back! read more

As much as I wanted a fatty bacon and buttery English muffins. I went for the spinach/mushroom omelet with a side of hash browns, and wheat toast. Half way into my delicious breakfast I forked it into the hash and found a dark black hair sticking out. I immediately lost my appetite. I was bummed and determined to eat everything because I haven't been eating a whole lot. This coarse piece of hair just ruined it for me. I'll check it out again maybe next time.... =/ read more

I've been going to Don's for several years now and it just dawned on me I never reviewed it for Yelp! A very good breakfast, friendly staff, a little tight quarters inside the smaller dining venue, but the quality of food and good service negates that. The menu prices may be a tad north of what you'd expect, but you do not get cheated on portions, we often take 1/2 of the plate home for a 2nd breakfast. You won't go wrong here, enjoy! read more

Went to Don's for breakfast on a Monday so it wasn't that busy. I just moved to Carlsbad from NC and wanted a southern breakfast. Was able to find a seat outside. They have the typical "sit anywhere" method which I personally enjoy when a restaurant isn't too busy. They have great breakfast specials during the week so I ordered the french toast with bacon, eggs ($7.95 special) a side of grits and a coffee. Server was very friendly and my coffee cup was constantly refilled with hot coffee and was never empty which I enjoyed. The special was delicious and what I expected. The grits weren't like NC grits but they were okay. Overall great experience and delicious country breakfast. Would definitely come back. However, I would probably avoid it on the weekends because I can see it getting crowded since it has limited seating. read more

I have given this place a few tries but never again. Took the whole family there today and it was not a good experience. Tables, chairs, umbrellas falling all over the place. Food was absolutely horrible. Our hamburgers were cooked so much they were basically charcoal. I could not even understand the handwritten check to know if I was charged correctly. Don's has been around for awhile. Why my husband and I decided to try it for the first times a few month ago boggles me, because now it is our Saturday morning breakfast spot. We are early risers, so we are stuffing our faces by 7:30 AM most weekends. It seems to get very busy later on, and it doesn't accommodate many, so be prepared to wait if you are rolling out of bed after 10 after too many cocktails on a Friday night. The servers are super friendly, and make an effort to remember you and what you order after a few times there. Lots of specialty items to choose from. My husband dies for their corned beef hash and eggs, says it's the best he's ever had. Skip the toast and go for their home made coffee cake or biscuits and gravy. read more

Went out this weekend for a nice breakfast. We read the reviews on yelp just to find a place to eat and thought we'd better give this place a try. I would have to agree with most of the reviews...the good ones anyway. We got there early and there were two tables open, one inside and one outside. We chose the outside. Inside was a little muggy. We sat down first since the other people in our party hadn't arrived yet. They asked us what we wanted to drink right away, they weren't impatient with us about our ordering...since it was our first time and the menu goes on and on....quite a selection. I got the spinach & mushroom omelet and my husband got the cheese omelet and added homemade salsa. Both were delicious. Fresh ingredients and VERY tasty! Coffee was overflowing and we couldn't ever even finish a cup. Very good service and the atmosphere was fun. I think we'll be back there. Maybe we'll try lunch! read more

Don's Country Kitchen looks absolutely adorable. From the diner counter to the handwritten specials on the wall, everything screams "yummy comfort food served with a smile". Unfortunately my food wasn't particularly yummy and the smile was nowhere to be found. My food was, much like the service, really bland. The scrambled eggs, hash browns and pancake looked great when they arrived, sadly they had barely any taste. The potatoes were the worst offenders - absolutely no taste at all. It was like eating crispy air. The pancake was the best part of the meal although I could have lived without the big scoop of butter served on top. The service wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. The staff didn't seem miserable or anything, just on auto-pilot. All in all a very '...meh' experience. Must confess that I'm super disappointed as I had high hopes for the place. read more

This place has AWFUL customer service. When we walked in, no one greeted/acknowledged us. And then when we sat down and were clearly ready to order, the employees completely ignored us. It took at least 15 minutes of us sitting here looking around before we were even acknowledged. Ive worked in restaurants and customer service most of my life, so i understand that things get hectic. But theres never a good reason to completely ignore and disregard customers! Not cool.
