This place has became my FAVORITE donut shop in San Diego for several reasons. 1. Their donuts are ALL delicious (at least the several that I've tried). This place has my favorite buttermilk donuts hands down AND they have 5 different flavors: plain, glazed, maple glazed, chocolate glazed, and blueberry. They are ALL that good. They also have a blueberry donut which is on point and tastes like actually blueberries. Their apple fritter has real apples. And you just can't go wrong with old-fashioned donuts. 2. The prices are super cheap! All donuts are under $1 (I think the buttermilk bars are $0.85 and the others are all cheaper) when I know other places charge well over a dollar for their buttermilk bars. 3. This place is open late so I can get my donut fix whenever. Some people complain about the staleness. The donuts here actually keep well! I'm sure a few seconds in the microwave wouldn't hurt if you want warm donuts but I still found my donuts to be good even the next day when I've discovered I've left them in my car overnight.... 4. They actually HAVE donuts I want past noon! Unlike VGs who run out quickly and have no mind to actually make enough to last past 9am, this place has delicious donuts even past lunchtime. Lovely no frills little mom and pop donut shop! They open very early and later than most, but in my experience they can tend to run out of stuff by late night so for you vagrants out there that want a nighttime snack you may find the supply is low. I always get the blueberry donuts here! 70 cents each and full of blueberries, super soft and not too sweet. My last visit here I also tried the APPLE donuts which may be even better than the blueberry. Definitely don't overlook the apple bois just for the blueberry hype, they're great and very cinnamony. The man who was working yesterday was so courteous and friendly, I felt so welcomed! My boyfriend and I had the blueberry, buttermilk blueberry, chocolate, pink sprinkle, and custard donuts, which came out to $4.05. It is cash only here. I've stopped in twice now and have tried the apple fritter (my favorite!), raspberry-filled glazed, cream-filled chocolate and the infamous blueberry. In fact, I mentioned that I'd heard great reviews of the blueberry on Yelp and was offered a sample right on the spot. Definitely tasty! I mentioned that I had just moved to Mira Mesa to get a house with a yard for my dogs and when I returned later in the month, he remembered me and asked how my dogs were liking their yard. This is a classic old-school style donut shop that I've been going to for 13 years. The same sweet old lady has been working there the whole time. There's nothing special or unique about this place. It's the standard, small, Asian-owned donut shop that used to be mainstay until bagels started increasing in popularity, and people started requiring more foo-foo crap. This place is all about the regular coffee and donut. The prices are the most reasonable of all the Mira Mesa/Miramar area donut shops. Also, even if I just get one donut, I'll usually find 2 cream-filled donut holes in the bag as well. Donuts are kind of dry, but tasty. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy fancier donuts at times, but there are days when I just want a plain glazed donut or one with sprinkles or even a cake donut. This place delivers for sure as they have almost every type you can think of short of the "extra fancy" donuts. You won't find a donut covered in Fruit Loops, but you can be sure that Donut Stop has all of the classic types of donuts. Although I love them, I very rarely get donuts. However, we happened to be in this shopping center last night, and I could see through the window of the shop that the shelves were fully stocked. Then, someone opened the door to go in and the sweet aroma of donuts wafted out. I was hooked. Everyone has their go-to donut, and mine is the humble glazed buttermilk bar. At about 8:45 pm, everything looked fresh, and I could see they were in the back working on making more. The cream puffs looked amazing, but I could only handle one sweet this trip - next time I'm getting one of those for sure. My donut was awesome, a perfect example of a buttermilk bar. The glaze was excellent too. And, it only set me back .75. This place must be a local favorite because in the ten minutes we were standing outside, I saw no less than SEVEN people go into the shop - and this is at 8:45 pm on a Wednesday night! I've been coming to this donut store since I was a kid after church on Sundays. The donuts have been consistent through out the years. The owner back then was a very nice guy. He used to add a couple free donut holes to the dozen my family used to buy. Now I think its his son that took over the operations and they still hook it up with a free donut! My favorite donuts to get are the Maple Bars, French Cruller, or the Apple Fritters. They have a wide range of different types of donuts to choose from. They also have coffee and cold milk if you get thirsty. I love coming here if I ever crave donuts. The place is small but hey its a donut shop. I will definitely come back here on a weekly basis!! I set up some filters for my searches to only include places that were open now and near me. Not only was the Donut Stop open, but it had several glowing reviews. Score! The place really is just a hole-in-the-wall donut shop, but once I saw that counter full of donuts I didn't care. They had a great variety of donuts including chocolate iced, blueberry, maple bars, giant apple fritters, and bavarian creme. Even though it was 9pm at night we watched them put out a fresh tray of warm donuts. I have to mention that the people running this establishment were so nice. I stumbled upon the amazing dough factory during one of my breaks from work to pick up some Cheese Balls at Valerio's a few doors down. It was about 2pm and the "open" sign was lit. WHAAAAAAAAAT?! Oh, heck yes! Besides the fact that they're open until 10pm.. (YES, TEN P.M.!!!!)... the donuts were pretty close to perfect. Dough was super soft and tasted like they just came out of the oven (err, fryer?). They have these Cinnamon Roll-y donuts.. which I think will be my new go-to cinnamon roll. Honestly probably one of the top donut shops I've been to. The blueberry cake donut is just to die for. I never heard of blueberry donuts until m&ms in the oc area so when my bf told me about blueberry donuts here I was excited to try it out. I'm not a fan of cake donuts but this one isn't too cakey it's just the right amount and the blueberry compliments it well. 100% would choose this shop over m&ms bc waiting for 2+ hours is not worth my time. The chocolate swirl donut is one of the originals and these are my top go to donuts there (partly cause I'm basic and just love chocolate donuts). My bf also enjoys the apple cake and apple fritter. He also said the buttermilk donuts are too dense so just skip out on that. I usually get the blueberry donuts here. A dozen was around $5. I bought a box to work once and I was hero of the day since everyone loved it so much. Maybe if I keep bringing them I will get a raise. This place is a mom-n-pop/family ran donut shop and everyone there has always been super friendly for every one of my visits. I always tip this shop since their prices are sooo cheap, I almost feel like I am ripping them off for walking out with such cheap donuts. T_T I would always get an occasional free donut when I order a lot and although I am not a die-hard donut fan, I think the quality of their donuts is superb. Price cannot be beaten since it is SO cheap and you get a good selection too. They also have day-old-gold donuts which they sell for $3 a whole large box. I always eye the whole box since I love sweets and carbs but to prevent myself from eating the whole box myself, I have never purchased one. I always think it's cool that shops sell their day-olds for cheaper instead of wasting them or being shady and re-selling them the next morning.
