I walked in here at 2 am welcomed by the sweet smell of donuts baking. The cook acknowledged me with a smile and asked how he can help me. "A dozen donuts," I say. The display racks were half full and I was somewhat worried that perhaps the donuts were made much earlier during the day. There isn't really any specialty donuts. The only donut I saw out of the norm was the blueberry donut. I looked around as he grabbed my dozen and when he returned he could barely close the lid. Perhaps the 6 twists I ordered took a lot of space. He sealed the pink box with some tape and told me to be careful. "$9," he says with a smile and when I give him the money he tells me to have a nice night. I get home 30 minutes later to a hungry daughter and when she opened the lid she gasp and said, "how many did you order?" I took a look and behold over a dozen donuts. 18 to be exact. I grabbed a twist and took a bite. It was so soft! If I had no teeth, I could still eat the donut. I tried the blueberry and there was pieces of blueberry inside. It had a crisp outside with a soft interior. All the donuts tasted fresh. Although you won't find a bacon topped donut or any other specialty donut here, the classics are still delicious. Even late at night when you get the cravings you can stop by here 24 hours a day and expect a soft donut. I will definitely come back when the late night donut urge strikes again. read more

This just might be my new go-to local donut shop for one reason...... BLUEBERRY DONUTS! Yes, that's it. Blueberry donuts. I had my first one of these savory creations back in February at the Donuttery and it was game over. BEST DONUT EVER MADE. Worth every calorie. Came here specifically for those and they were kind enough to side aside six of them when I called. The other donuts were pretty good, too. I would recommend the maple bar, but the chocolate bar was just... meh. Couldn't taste the chocolate flavor too much. A dozen will cost you $8.99. The dozen price is a little steep, but that's because I compare every donut shop to the Donuttery now. Service could also improve, since the employees weren't all that friendly and didn't even smile once. The fact they take credit cards is a plus. read more

I will never come back to this place again. I occasionally went to the Donut Tree when no other donut place was open and the donuts were usually average. Once I had a donut that was just made and it was a-ok, but I don't know how often they make their donuts. The last time I went I decided I wanted a large cinnamon roll, but it looked so stale, so I simply asked when it was made. There is definitely a difference in taste between donuts purchased from The Donut Tree and those purchased at a chain donut shop. For one, the donuts here taste fresh and are oh so soft on the inside. My favorite donut from this place has got to be the plain donut with white icing and peanuts on top! That is sooo delish, especially when you dunk it in hot coffee. Their maple bars, glaze twists, danishes and muffins are excellent!!!! The best time to grab some these donuts of course is in the the morning. Come afternoon, many of their items are sold out. I've always felt that the prices here were somewhat high, but the service (at least in the mornings) is consistently kind and amiable. The doughnuts always smell great here! One major plus about this place: service hours are 24/7 so you can walk in whenever you feel like grabbing some awesome doughnuts! I usually prefer to come here around 2am - 6am when it's not as crowded and there are fresh baked doughnuts. The main things that I order here are usually the ham and cheese croissant, the cream-filled doughnut with chocolate glaze on top, or just a chocolate doughnut. There is a wide variety of doughnuts, but get here early or else all the good ones will be gone. The price here is pretty good. Every item is usually about $1.00 - $2.00. Sometimes if you buy at least a dozen doughnuts, they'll thrown in a few free ones. I never tried the coffee here, but I know they do sell it. There are some seats inside and outside of the store, along with a restroom, and a counter for your sweeteners, stirs, straws, napkins, etc. The employees are extremely nice with good customer service. Tips: if you're coming a bit late, try to call first to see if they have the item you want to buy. Usually, they'll tell you if it's in or not. If the item you want is not in yet, they'll tell you when it'll be ready. All in all, I'd definitely come back here and recommend this place to people who crave for doughnuts at any time of the day. read more

I came here with my boyfriend for something sweet after dinner. He was craving donuts all day and told me he came here twice before and the donuts were hot, fresh, and delicious. I was a little skeptical about it being fresh donuts because it was about 9pm when we decided to go; however, since the shop advertises as being open 24/7, i assumed they would have fresh donuts continuously throughout the day. He got a chocolate custard filled donut, and i got a chocolate donut bar. I really wanted to enjoy it, but it was probably one for the worst donuts I've ever had - cold, stale, and bland. Talk about angry owner. I understand that it was slightly late (it was around 10) and my friends and I went to grab a donut. This angry older man behind the counter kept giving me the evil eye as if I did something wrong by looking. He walks over and says "what do you want?!" and I say "I'm still looking" and for some reason that pissed him off even more? I've been living in the Nut for a good portion of my life (how about all of it, or 3/4ths to be specific) and I had never gone into the Donut Tree until now. I had a curiousity in going ever since I was young because of it's cool name. I don't care for donuts much but these ones are pretty good. I don't care for coffee either but they have tea and hot cocoa - they have really good hot cocoa too, it's made with milk. None of that gross bitter water-like shit goin' on here. Guilty pleasure: Donut Holes...and everything else in this store. I normally go in the morning on my way to work or before my workouts (i know...don't judge me) so they are really fresh! If you love croissants, they have some wonderful flaky ones here that are also made freshly in the mornings! You can see the croissants sitting on the racks still! I'm a huge donut fanatic...and this is one of those local classic donut shops that you appreciate being in your neighborhood...nothing but classic donuts, regular customers, and friendly owners. Hands down MY default donut shop. It is conveniently right next to the chevrons, so I always poke in while I fill my gas or when I go to the bank. ahhh I JUST LOVE THIS PLACE!! I lived in Irvine for 4 years and I never found a donut place as yummy as this. Donut Tree seriously has the best donuts!! When my brother got married and he and his wife stayed at our house for the first time, we all told her she absolutely had to go to Donut Tree to get awesome donuts. She was in LOVE!! "The best donuts I've ever had!" and we can't agree more. We live right across the street from Donut Tree and sometimes at night if you open your windows you can smell the fresh donuts being made! Delicious! My younger brother and I have made many late night trips here! Every time I fill up gas at the Chevron in that plaza, I make a trip to Donut Tree. :) This place is a major hit in Walnut, and it's super cute to see retired old men in the morning with their hot rods parked out side sitting and enjoying their donuts. Let's be honest. The 'Nut isn't exactly tops on the list of places to visit. It's within spitting distance of the IE (in fact, it has a 909 area code), it seems mostly industrial, and the nearest Trader Joe's is in Brea. Still, the Donut Tree is one of the few shining beacons of hope for this sleepy burg. But wait, you say, how can a donut shoppe prop up the collective aspirations of an entire community? By not being content with pumping out mediocre circles of fried dough. I really don't know what it is about these donuts, but I love them like a fat kid loves cake. The glazed raised donuts are nice and airy; plump but not dense. The glaze is sweet, but not overpowering, and it cracks when you bite into it instead of leaving that semi-liquid residue on donuts that have been sitting around too long. The apple fritters are large and in charge, crispy outside hiding a soft interior filled with cinnamon and tasty apple bits. The old-fashioned are also delightful, but a standout is the chocolate they use for frosting the chocolate donuts. So many donut shops use this chalky paste that leaves a gritty feeling in your mouth, but the chocolate at the Donut Tree is smooth and creamy. A+! They always seem to have a pretty good selection, which is nice because some places only stock the basics when business is slow, and they're open 24 hours, so you can get your donut fix at any hour of the day.
