During COVID , this little yet amazing spot has been doing what it should. They are offering take-out and constantly sanitizing counters, door handles and offer hand sanitizer, also they provide you with a mask if you don't have one. The food is delicious , my favorite at the moment is the menudo served on the weekends with homemade tortillas. Last week, it was the Chile verde omelet. I change things around a bit. The food is prepared FRESH and since it's so good, there tends to be a line, but I promise you, the wait is worth it. I drove all the way from Paso Robles to San Miguel on a mission (unintended pun): to find the perfect Mexican bakery that I assumed created the perfect Mexican pan dulce from another trip. It had involved nuns and fundraising at the old San Miguel Mission. But that story was already told in my mission review. I had an address. I had a craving. I was going to find the purveyor of those delicate pastries, by hook or by crook. Instead, I found Dos Hermanos. The bakery had closed its doors. DH had taken over the location. Picture a bottom lip dragging on the floor at that revelation. However, it ended up good. The tiny, unassuming restaurant happened to serve some of the most fabulous Chile Verde ever. I chose to glop it onto nachos. Just the right amount of kick, just the right spin of tomatillo and herb, and a healthy glob of melted cheese. The chips were fresh and light and crunchy. So, so good, I knew this would be a Chile Verde stop for the future. Mr. B ordered a combo of tamale and two enchiladas with pork (carnitas) filling. The enchilada sauce was strange to me, tasting more like a mole. I personally did not care for it. And apparently, neither did he. The beans and rice were good. While there is a small dining area inside, mostly you find outdoor seating. The patio area is mostly protected from sun and rain. And you know how hot it can get here in the summertime. A trip here in the summer might mean taking the food to go and finding somewhere definitely air conditioned. Other than the initial disappointment, our discovery was a good one. And, meanwhile, they told me that my bakery still had one more location in Paso Robles. So off I go, still in search of the end of the rainbow. read more

Driving South from Santa Cruz to Los Angeles we stopped for gas and a restroom break. Hadn't had breakfast and noticed the Dos Hermanos restaurant across the street from the gas station. Of course, I got my phone out, checked Yelp, and found fantastic reviews. So, we popped-in for a bite. I ordered the chilaquiles, my husband ordered the green chili burrito. Both were delicious. So delicious, that my husband got a chorizo and egg burrito TO GO. We always love it when we come upon small unassuming establishments like this that knock our socks off! Lastly, they have indoor seating and two outdoor seating areas as well. One that is covered, another that is not. Hope you enjoy if you're in the area! read more

Delicioso! Well worth the wait but we were warned to call ahead and place our order. Called 20 minutes out and it was ready within a few minutes of our arrival. A veg breakfast burrito, add bacon and a chilli verde breakfast burrito. Both hot, melty and perfect for a quick bite off the highway. San Miguel does not have a lot to offer in the way of eating establishments. This little gas station made-over into a cafe is a perfect spot for a quick bite to eat, whether you are touring the mission or driving on Hwy 101. It's the typical order-at-the-counter setup. Beverages include beers and sodas. I was disappointed that there was no horchata. The food is cooked as it is ordered so you may wait for a bit. It is very good food, nothing fancy, but very tasty. This place is a joke. I didn't know it takes more than 20 minutes to make a simple quesadilla. Also didn't know it takes two people to take one order for no more than 3 people. Horrible service! Zero offer for a refund because we were waiting so long. I usually like to support small shops but when you have horrible service, I'm out. We waited.... and waited.... and waited.... finally asking what was the hold up after about 20 minutes of waiting. Stopped here on our way home. Looked nquaint but was disappointed! Says authentic mexican but it was lacking flavor and not fresh! 3 out of 4 of us were dissatisfied. I ordered just one hard chicken taco at $4. One friend had enchilada plate and a drink at 18. All agreed plates the meat ( chicken and steak) had been reheated maybe twice. These type of little out of the way places can be really cool especially if the people are friendly. Well this place is missing that as well. Not one word of courtesy. One friend asked as we were waiting if she could have all rice instead of rice and beans. "Nope" plate was already made. This is definitely a hidden gem! They are just off the 101 across from Chevron. The food is the best I have had, made fresh and comes out nice and hot. The decor is simple but the wall mural is beautifully painted and the staff is very nice. I felt like I was back in my grandma's house eating some AMAZING home cooking!! I stopped in a year ago on Labor day weekend right after getting gas next door. The place is humble and small and doesn't look like much from the outside. I walked in for a beer and tried some of the homemade thick chips and salsa with avocado - Wow!!! What great salsa they have! It was so impressively yummy I knew I would alway remember this place. So this recent Labor day weekend I went again and actually tried some of the food I saw when we stopped in the year before. I had the special, the Sopes - one chicken and one carnitas. Sopes are thicker but smaller round corn tortillas have a bean spread, hold meat of your choice, have shredded greens, tomato, a bit of sour cream and sliced avocado on top. I love these and they were super similar to the ones my family makes. My boyfriend had a wet green sauce carnitas burrito; that was recommended by the employee. He loved it as well. I also ordered a steak Torta to go for dinner later. The Torta was big and very authentic with Mexican bread and jalapenos... so good The food at Dos Hermanos is simple and wonderfully Mexican :) you gotta check out this gem on the way down on 101. This was a spot my friend and I came to on our way to Monterey. We were so hungry and desperate for lunch when we found this restaurant. The reviews seems okay but we weren't really sure what to expect. Let me tell you- to this day we are still talking about the food! I ordered the taco combo which came with two tacos and a side of rice and beans. The flavor was incredible and I finished every bite which I usually can't do. My friends ordered various other plates but so said it was one of the best Mexican dishes they've ever had. I watched an older woman make the entire meal so I knew it was going to be good! I called the owner after breaking a tooth while eating their taco salad I picked up there. The next day I called and left a message and my phone number that I wanted to speak with the owner. I never received a call back to discuss the situation. I wasn't sure if there might have been a small rock from the beans which sometimes can happen. I feel totally disregarded as a customer who's purchased food there for a very long time. I will never go back to Dos Hermanos again.
