We've been to Dosalas numerous times and the love the atmosphere & location. The menu is pretty pricy but the food is good and the cocktails are always on point! we normally order a bunch of shareable appetizers and a Paella to share. The staff are always incredibly kind and attentive. We were just there earlier this week and I want to call out our server, Kevin. we had a group of 8, with 3 teenagers. Kevin was so attentive, kind and kept things moving for us without being too pushy. He also treated our teenagers like normal human beings instead of an after-thought. Went to Dosalas last night for quick lite fare before heading to First Friday Art Walk in Vancouver. We arrived early, about 5:15p so maybe they were staffing up for later in the evening, but as we walked in there were 3 young hostesses to greet us yet no one was available to answer the phone 15 minutes earlier when we tried to call to inform them we would be a bit late for our reservation. Instead we got a very cumbersome automated attendant. We sat on the covered and heated patio - Dosalas has absolutely prime real estate, particularly if you're seated on the patio. The sense I got was that Dosalas is going for a little hip LA/SoCal-ish vibe - so if that's the vibe you like, it's fine, not my thing for the PNW - I vacation in SoCal for that. The staffing was way over the top - we had probably 4 different people come to our table to ask us how the food was, could we get anything else, more drinks, more anything, etc. Lots of staff walking through - one gets the sense that the manager told the staff "don't let me see you standing around". It was a bit much. That said, the wait staff were very pleasant and food was delivered promptly, which worked out for our evening plans. The food was good but the prices were high and many of the entrees were for multi-serving (which wasn't clear to me on first glance) Three of us had four appetizers, one glass of wine and two MOCKtails - one of which was a virgin mojito that was basically sour and a splash of soda, no mint, no fresh lime, and a ton of ice. The bill was $110. I had the guacamole trio - great guacamole but the seasoned and fried corn tortilla for the "chip" was too crunchy and thick - straight up tortilla chips or casaba chips would've been better, the cheese bread was three little (smaller than mochi) cheesy bread balls, cauliflower tempura - which was very good. This place will appeal to a younger, more affluent (clearly Vancouver is experiencing a demographic shift which is both good and bad) crowd overall. Too pricey for my taste for what we got and they really need to work on staff work flow and how to deliver high-end service. This would be a great place for a special occasion, say valentine's or anniversary, etc. where the experience on the waterfront is really what you're going for, certainly not a quick bite and then off for the evening. The parking in downtown will need to be addressed at some point with all the building and growth going on - but that's not Dosalas' issue. read more

We tried this place for the first time. The restaurant has a beautiful interior. We had a reservation but still had to wait and out table was on the balcony in freezing temperatures. They made attempts to make it warm with overhead heaters and a middle gas fire but it was not enough. Our server was unattractive and we had to wait long times for service and specially drinks. Most of the food was good but some dishes were not worth the price. Once our ($20 each) frozen margaritas finally arrived they were terrible. $55 paella was bland and soggy. If you have a group DONT COME! We spent over $1,000.00 and they wouldn't separate the bill. They charged us double the price on 4 different drinks and put other items on our bill that we didn't eat. They even charged us for the dessert they brought for our birthday girl that we didn't even ask for. It took over 45 minutes to figure out who is paying what on the bill and it still doesn't add up. But because they were closing, they rushed us to pay on one credit card when we still had tons of questions that they weren't willing to help us with. This is not customer service at all! The last time I checked, I don't work there Nor do I have any paychecks coming in from this place. So why should I have to break it down for them? I didn't realize after a halfway decent meal and a few drinks that I had to be a mathematician. To top it off, they charge 20% gratuity after tax for subpar service. So the bill was 800 and then tax was 68 and they calculated the 20% tip based off $868, not $800. That's so unacceptable! NEVER COMING BACK! read more

Artie was personable and great to hang with while I wanted for my colleague to arrive. Really appreciate him going above and beyond to charge my phone! Right off the bat you notice how stunning the decor is. The hostesses were attentive and helpful as they walked us to our table. I think my favorite part is the variety of cocktails they offer. I got the Coco Chanel and it was the perfect mix of sweet & citrusy. I also tried the Grilled Octopus - I am very picky about my seafood and would definitely reorder. I'm trying to be as fair as possible on the review. We went here once it was a blast the great food, awesome drinks and then we left. The whole thing felt more fun because it was a novelty, but the food is OK it's not great and the other stuff like getting a drink in a gilded cage cute once but that's it. It was the second time that we came with a large group of people out of town. We ordered drinks and lots of tapas and you could just tell from us and the good time that we were having it was going to be easily a 12 or $1300 check. Also it was on a Wednesday evening so it's not like it was packed or anything. Two orders for our vegetarian friends were completely forgotten. The lamb requested rare came out well done. This plate alone is $100 and anyone who knows anything about lamb - you never want it well done. The music was blaring and it's not because I'm getting older and I think those kids to turn down the music, it was on a Wednesday and we couldn't even have a conversation at the table. Also I think that's why the orders may have gotten screwed up because they couldn't hear what we were ordering. Some of the staff were wonderful and others had a little bit of an attitude, seemed a little cranky. We went here because we thought our out-of-town friends would enjoy it. Unfortunately not even just because we spent so much money, but every person who comes into that restaurant should be treated special, their orders listened to, the orders to come out correctly, not to have to wait and this is the truth 45 minutes for a piece of cheesecake. 45 minutes. Whole thing was a mess and again I keep going back to the fact that it was a Wednesday and there were plenty of seats available so it's not like the place was overrun. Overall some of the food is good.. This time got the mussels and clams and it was extremely spicy I couldn't eat it, the bread wasn't toasted like before and it seemed to have changed overall, I remember ordering it before and it didn't have a red broth with ground sausage. Short rib sopas were also pretty spicy, the corn patty underneath isn't very good. The service is really slow, they need more servers if they want the capacity they have. The music is extremely loud, don't go here for a date. When you walk up the stairs you can see up everyone's dress due to a glass wall. They need to figure that one out, ASAP. This place is nice for a fun girls night, but you can not hear anything other than the music and you are sitting a foot away from the other table where everyone can hear your conversation. The food was mediocre. The lobster was over cooked and it was the size of shrimp. Rice was crunchy from being over cooked as well. This place is over priced for what they give you. read more

I was really excited to try this place for date night! I made my reservation on open table for 3pm on Saturday. I showed up 20 minutes early and before I could even say I was there for my reso the hostess told me they were no longer taking walk ins. The greeting was less than warm or welcome and when I told her I had a 3pm reservation she told me they wouldn't be able to sit me until then. After 20 minutes of waiting we got sat in an empty restaurant and I was confused as to why we were asked to wait so long (could of been shift change). Our server was kind and attentive and I wish I knew her name. The food service was relatively fast and the drinks were good! Not Happy. Worst customer service and hospitality We've ever experienced. We made reservations way ahead of time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I even called to double check on the reservation. I asked for a possible table by the window or to sit outside so we could have a romantic evening. Upon arrival we waited 25 more minutes beyond our reservation time. Nothing was said like, oh welcome! Happy anniversary! Nope, nothing was said. When we finally walked up the stairs we waited longer to be seated. It's very awkward and felt disorganized. No one seemed in charge. So we finally get seated. She proceeded to take us to the right all the way back to the mirror wall and sat us in the middle of a booth and a smaller table on the end. We were only a foot away from each person sitting next to us. Literally packed in like sardines. Hearing their convo, and so close my husband had to move his bag cause it was touching the guys arm. Completely unacceptable. No one wants to sit next to strangers that close during an intimate romantic anniversary dinner let alone at any time at an expensive dinner. I wanted to cry. We ordered one drink to be polite and not storm out. Then quickly paid and left. We did not order food cause I couldn't imagine eating a meal how we were seated. Even the couple next to us couldn't believe they sat us so dang close. I would have expected more from a higher end restaurant and actually care about their customers and not just packing them in for $$$$. The lack of gratitude and warmth at this place is appalling. Not a friendly place. When I told the girls down stairs what happened she would barely look me in the eye. Basically said sorry with no emotion or care to even make the situation better. We were choosing to spend our hard earned money on a nice dinner date and instead got treated like garbage. My girlfriend and decided to check out Dosalas for our date night. She in particular had been really wanting to check this place out, and what kind of guy would I be to not take her? We made our reservations a week out and we were seated promptly when we arrived. Instantly we took in the scenery and smells. The place is decorated well, and the food smelled amazing. Our waitress was also very friendly and so were the other staff members we encountered. Ordering was a little confusing, as it sounded like the portions were huge. We ordered the Mexican Street corn, Brazilian cheese bread, and the lamb chops. The corn came first. It arrived in a very small dish and there was plenty for one person. Clearly the rest was on its way. I was ready to dig in. It didn't come though. Next came our cheese bread. We were presented with 4 small bread balls each smaller than a golf ball. They are almost 2 bites each. I was still wondering about the rest of the corn when the lamb chops arrived. The taste was really fantastic. Each lamb chop, and there were 3, had 3 to 4 bites of great flavor. In hind sight, perhaps the lamb was small and underdeveloped? Not sure as I haven't seen lamb chops this small. No we were not full. No we were not satisfied, and no we won't be going back. We went to Red Robbin after to fill up. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you have a small appetite and big wallet. The food was very mediocre for the price. We had a weird experience. We ordered a few items that we specified to the server as "starters, before dinner". Yet they came out after dinner. I was on a double date and my husband and friend's husband ordered the steak as their main course and my friend and I got a salad. The boys got their steak and finished eating before we ever got our salads. We each only had one drink which was just OK because our server never came back to ask if we wanted another. When we asked to speak to a manager someone came out who did not seem like a manager and explained that things just come out of the kitchen as they are ready. No apology, nothing. Even though we explained to her we ordered items specifically requested as starters. And there is no way our husband's steak was cooked faster than it takes to make two salads. This was my second time at Dosalas, which was vastly different than the first time. There was 5 of us today. My sister & my niece ordered the chilaquiles Rojas. My sister enjoyed hers, but my nieces egg was basically uncooked. We know the difference between Sunnyside up and uncooked. We brought it up to the server. She removed the plate then came back and said her manager said it was supposed to be like that. She didn't offer anything else. My brother law and I ordered the chipotle chicken sandwich. Mine was great but my brother in laws chicken was burnt and tasted like it. The majority of his sandwich was left on his plate and the server took it away and didn't mention a thing. My mom got the sopes crab Benedict and she thought it was great. So, 2 meals out of 5 were messed up & the server offered nothing. I got the bill, and noticed I was still being charged for my nieces meal so I mentioned something to our server. She said, "this is what my manager said to do". No discussion or anything. Typically, I would not say anything but this really felt neglectful, so I did. Our server said she had to talk to the manager again. They did come back and removed the $17.00 for her dish but it was really uncomfortable. I only ordered a soda as my beverage and it was an hour and 15 minutes before I was brought a refill, which was after I got the bill.. just seemed strange. Dosalas is like that precious gem you think you've found on Tinder and turns out to be the biggest douche that only talks about themselves. Dosalas talks a big talk but def can't walk the walk. Dosalas tries to butter you up with their sexy decor and instagramable wall art but just like any douche canoe they just can't finish the job. The menu seems enticing with the plethora of options however the Paella for Two was filled with tiny, dried ass muscles and clams and pretty much mustered up to seafood version of a hamburger helper. We also shared the carrots which could have used any seasoning...salt and pepper would have done the trick. The drinks were meh and tasted like juice. They were out of several beers as well. We went as a party of 7 and while everyone got their food...it took another 15 minutes before the birthday boy in our party got his salmon dinner...and oh wait also ordered wine which was presented in a dirty glass with floating chunks in it (server said he would comp it, but then magically didn't when the bill came around). But the worst of all was our obnoxious server who just didn't get the vibe...too loud and butting in at every moment. But don't worry he got his 20% tip because parties of 6 and over are automatically charged that (otherwise the tip would have been much lower). Overall this place is overpriced and nothing special, drinks lack actual alcohol, and service is just lack luster. Dosalas is the epitome of a pig in sheep's clothing. You're better off being satisfied with Taco Bell and some Tequila from the liquor store. read more

Dosalos was a fun and memorable, if expensive, experience. We were looking for a place for a festive family dinner for seven people. Saturday evening, so it needed to be someplace that took reservations. If we had researched better, we probably would have picked someplace else. That said, the food was superb and the service was excellent. With a live DJ, the noise level was just under "painful." We really wanted to try this place, so we booked a spot for Saturday brunch. It was my wife and I, 2 people. Initially, the space looks nice. The decor is quite overplayed for Vancouver, and just overplayed in general. Miami vice vibe, but it's quite out of place. We asked to be seated outside on the balcony area, so we were led to that area and given a table for two butted up against the building. We asked to be able to sit at one of the approximately 10 tables out closer to the waterfront so we could have a bit of the view with our meal, and we were told that those seats were for groups of four. The restaurant was not very full at all for a Saturday at noon, so we asked for the manager's word on this, so our server said she would check with the manager to see if we could sit at one of the empty spots with a view. After just a bit of a wait, she came back and let us know that No, we could not move to one of those spots, only groups of four people. A bit resigned to our spot by the wall with less of a view than we had wanted, we settled in and took a look at the menu. My wife really wanted a seat with a view, so, seeing some tables for 2 up by the windows inside by the bar, we asked if we could move to the inside for a seat with a view. Our server said we could go ahead and make that move, so we headed into the restaurant for a spot with a view. The food.... We looked through the menu a bit, and our server came to talk a bit about how things work. She let us know that the kitchen puts out small plates, and in no regular fashion, so it was best to treat everything like family style, and share the plates as they came out from the kitchen. She recommended that we order 2 or three things per person. The plates are about $17-24 each. The food portions on those plates are somewhat small for the price. We ordered three different plates, Sopes crab Benedict, $24, Dungeness crab toast, $18, and Dulce de leche French toast. The food was pretty good, about a 3 star rating for the food. Quality was good, portion size was small, value for price was a bit low. The one item of note to us is that the Dulce de leche French toast was a very sweet dish, and was not actually French toast. I would call this dish a bread pudding. It is that type of consistency and recipe. The drinks.... We ordered three drinks. Pablo's mistress, $17, Summer lovin sangria, $24, and Frosé, $13. The drinks were small for the pricing, except the frosè, that one was a proper size. The sangria was actually a joke. The price is insane for the quality and quantity, and it was served in a golden French press. There was enough sangria for one wine glass serving size. Pablo's mistress was a decent cocktail, a bit underpowered and undersized for the price, but decent taste. The frosé was a frozen concoction out of a slurpee-type machine, and it was tasty. We shared this one kind of like a dessert. Overall, Dosalas looks like they are shooting a bit too high for our market, but are failing to hit that mark. The decor is nice, but overplayed, the food is cooked nicely, but you will either leave hungry or broke, and the drinks across the board are overpriced and small. I think If you talk big about yourself, you better be able to produce that result, and Dosalas fell short of that. They may be able to stay a bit busy with visitors from out of town, but I do not see that this is a restaurant that locals will visit multiple times. (Also, those tables outside that were reserved for only groups of 4, that we could not sit at....there were still about 8 of them empty by the time we left) read more

They automatically charge 20% for party of 6 and more, so of course they didn't care to pay attention to our table, we kept having to ask for utensils, napkins, and to refill our water. Waited 15 minutes to be seated when we had a reservation. Took 17 minutes after being seated to even be acknowledged and given water. Waiter left and didn't come back for about 10-15 minutes to take our drink order. Finally ordered one appetizer and drinks (Tuna Tostadas and margarita sampler). Got our drinks but never got our appetizer. We got to talking to the table next to us who were seated after us. They had to ask their waiter to see where our table waiter was. Our waiter showed up after a bit ( he appeared to be working behind the bar as I noticed him back there). Told us something about how food was rolled out from the kitchen (BS). We figured out they gave our appetizer to the table next to us. Waiter disappears again behind the bar. We're into this just over an hour now. Waiter finally comes back and I nicely ask for the check. I see him behind the bar talking to what appears to be the manager. Waiter comes back over and says meal is in them (rightly so) although we really didn't even have a meal. Whole experience was an hour and 15 minutes. Glad they acknowledged the issues without us having to say anything but they definitely need to work things out. For what is supposed to be an upscale restaurant our experience was horrible. For reference I've never walked out of a restaurant without paying or leaving a tip that's just not how we are but this was without a doubt a service issue. read more

I went to this restaurant for the first time a few nights ago. It took my girlfriend 2 weeks to get a reservation for 4. That said, I thought that it would have been great experience, but I could not have been more wrong. What you're paying for here is purely the atmosphere, certainly not the food or drinks. The portions are small and marginal taste-wise; not to mention super expensive. The menu is limited and our waitress had a challenging time explaining to us the items on the menu. We could not even figure out what the main dishes were, let alone the appetizers. She then told us that all of the food including the appetizers would come out at the same time when served. There were 4 of us at the table and when all of the food came, including the main dishes mixed in with the appetizers, the table was ridiculously full. This place is definitely a one and done visit. Even after reading some of the not so good comments we still decided to try this place. The layout of the place was really nice. We decided to try sitting outside for the view even in November as it was heated, and we were not disappointed. It felt like you were inside even after asking them to raise the screens so we can enjoy the view. We ordered the Brazilian cheese bread, tempura cauliflower, pork belly skewers, empanadas, paella, lamb chops, half chicken, mashed potatoes and Mexican street corn. Overall everything was tasty with the exception of the mashed potatoes which were too mashed and not the consistency we care for but taste wise they were ok. They also have a Tequila cart that they come around with to sample and learn about various Tequilas they have available. We tried a few that we have never had and were pleasantly surprised at how good they were. Service was good as well however it did slip a little as they got busier. They were very rude and unprofessional with the Approach and act like we can't afford to pay the bill of $300 plus and they act like we not going to pay. Drinks & Food over price & overrated!
