My friends birthday was at Airpark. They don't have food so we went to the closest place with food. Went to look at the menu. Weren't even greeted. Asked what the specials are and the two ladies looked at us as if we didn't belong there. The service was already bad and significantly pricey. When we got the food the noodles were soggy and overly seasoned. The meat was tough and chewy. The chicken we got seemed undercooked and mushy. I'm not too sure what other people have eaten here to give them such great review but we will definitely not be back. I usually am not this crucial but there was nothing about this restaurant or the menu that stood out and made me feel like this would be a great experience. I don't normally eat this type of food and was looking forward to a new experience. Guess it'll just have to be elsewhere. read more

Went here a couple of weeks ago for lunch with a workmate. Tried the noodle with black bean sauce (aka: jajangmyeon) and the sweet and sour pork. Came to Dowon late one evening after my yoga class at power yoga (located in the same building). The place is located in the parking lot ($1 an hour so not bad). I let my friends do the ordering since I had never been here. Of course they got the famous black bean noodle. We also ordered the sweet sour pork, black bean chicken and stir fry vegetables with seafood. Everything was really saucy but really good. I especially liked the sweet sour pork. They give you sides like how Korean restaurants do. The raw onion with the black bean dipping sauce (I think that's what it is?) is so good! But not good if you're going on a hot date.. beware of the major onion breath. The service was also good and the Korean ladies were nice. Only complaint I have is our 3 black bean noodles took extra long and came in last. Portions are big here so it's good for sharing! I will definitely be back! read more

the food here at dowon is absolutely delicious! i've been here a few times and i always stick to my favorites~ noodles with seafood and black bean sauce (of course) and sweet and sour pork! the portions are great since it's typically family style. except for the noodles, i need that whole order to myself :) the flavor is amazing in every dish and the sides they serve along with tea is a great complement to the dishes as well. this is my go to for jajangmyeon!! read more

Well, it's a restaurant serves Korean food. But they are one of the few open restaurant on Christmas, so some credits for that. The pickles were good, I got to appreciated them fully cause I got PLENTY time waiting for my noodles to be served. Almost finished my noodles while the last course come in so we have to pack most of it as leftovers. The food is ok, the flavor is lacking something though. read more

You could say that I have a Korean drama obsession, and love to eat what I see on the dramas. One thing for sure that's in every drama that I watch is black bean noodles with sweet and sour pork. I am very happy to say that this restaurant is what I assume to have black bean noodles worthy to fulfill my cravings. Parking- there is an open parking lot shared with Ichiriki, don't forget to pay for parking and remember your stall # so you don't need to be going back and forth. I paid $1 for parking and we were there little over an hour. Only cash is accepted and if you forget to pay, be warned that you will receive a $40 ticket on the window if your car. Resturant- The restaurant in itself is pretty small, and when I went there was only one waitress who basically did everything front of house so patience is a must. Even though she was the only one, her service was great. She constantly checked on us and was very patient. Food- first things the menu is partially in what I suspect to be Korean don't quote me. There were two of us and we both ordered our own black bean noodles and also 1 order of sweet and sour chicken. The food came out piping hot in adequate time and the flavors were extraordinary. This might actually be a 3.5 instead of a 4 but I'm going to go with 4 anyways. This place is literally HIDDEN behind Teapresso on Pi'ikoi. Go around to the back and you'll find it in the parking lot. I wouldn't recommend parking here.. Just walk from Ala Moana, get some steps in, and save your money! It's a very home-y restaurant, quite small but actually pretty busy? While I was here there were people already dining, and people who came in after. It honestly felt like I stepped into a small nook in a small neighborhood.. You really forget that bustling Ala Moana is right outside, which is honestly.. Quite nice? I got Jjajangmyeon and Sweet and Sour Chicken by recommendation of a friend. SO good. Especially the sweet and sour chicken. It was so home-y, even my friend described it that way. It had a good crunch and a great sauce. I can't get enough. The only downside is it isn't a very big portion for the price of.. $19? So that's a big bummer, but yet it's still worth it and the jjajangmyeon makes up for it. It's also not a HUGE portion, but it's so tasty and filling because of what it is. I'll probably come back here, especially because it's such an easy location. Can't wait!!! read more

My go to place for seafood jajangmyeon and kkanpunggi chicken. Usually come twice a month. They have the best home made Kimchee as well.

This is my absolute favorite place to go when I'm craving tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). It's not too sweet, and not too sour, it's JUST right. Dishes are more of a family style portion so either be super hungry or ready to share. I also like to order their jjajangmyun (black bean noodles). Not sure if their chef or recipe changed but the last couple of times I've been here the sauce has come out watery, so it's not as good as it used to be. Service is always quick and the lady that's always there is super nice and friendly. Parking is only $1 but be sure to pay before you head inside to avoid getting towed. Came here yesterday to try (black bean sauce noodles) for the first time ever. It was amazing. Currently craving it again already. What I didn't like about this place was that the service is a little lacking. We had to ask for water at least 3 times before getting any and it was pretty much at the end of the meal already. It also took a really long time for the waitresses to tend to us for anything. The food took quite long too. The sweet and sour pork is really good though! The food was genuinely good but it was a struggle dealing with the service. I'm not sure if they were just overwhelmed with being busy, but hopefully they hire some extra help to tend to all the customers. read more

I love this place! My favorite is seafood spicy jajangmyeon and regular seafood jajangmyeon, regular seafood has a nice flavor. You get addicted to the taste it also comes with onion, pickled radish, and kimchee. Spicy seafood jajangmyeon..... we eat this cold, I mean its good but your mouth would be on fire! I've been frequenting here for jajangmyun instead of On Dong lately. The main reason being that the tangsooyuk or sweet and sour pork is so good here! It's always really crunchy and a nice large portion; perfect for sharing. The service here is always great too. The waitresses are on point, always refilling our side dishes of onion and kimchee. This was my first time here and I wouldn't have known about it if my sister didn't invite me to go to lunch with her. She said that she was craving black noodles. They are located near Ginza nightclub and the parking is ample, but tight. Make sure that when you go you pay $1 for parking at the pay box. They are located right under the yoga studio. It is a decent size restaurant and it has 2 private rooms. It is very clean and nice. It was not crowded at all at 11 am. My sister has been there before, so she ordered for me. We got black noodles and sweet and sour pork. They also give you onions, daikon, and kim chee as a starter. The daikon is so good!!! My sister made a dip for the sweet and sour pork. There's spicy flakes, vinegar, and a tad bit of shoyu. Once we got our black noodles it looked really odd, but tasted so good!! It was nice and hot! The sweet and sour pork was hands down the best! I mean, in general, most Korean ladies waitresses are kinda mean and rough, BUT here...there are so nice xD I was very impressed! Due to their customer service, I want to rate 100,000 stars xD Their food were decent. I got sweet & sour pork (tangsooyook) and jjajangmyeon. The pork dish was more like home-made and was very crispy which I enjoyed :P The portion of port was VERY LARGE. My sister and I couldn't finish these two dishes because the pork was really really big!!!!! The lady packed left-over in to-go box for us. Very KIND. I went here yesterday with my friend to try their Black Bean Noodles (since we watch a lot of Mukbangs on YouTube and everyone seemed to love it)... I ordered 2 of the regular black bean noodles for myself and someone else at home but only rang me up for 1.. I guess she thought that when my friend and I said we're separate, we would pay for one each since we got 2.. but she ended up voiding the first payment I made, and corrected it, which she could've just rang me up for another one instead of voiding since there seemed to be no tax added looking at the price on the menu.. but I'm not sure if my refund is going to go through since I used my Venmo card? I mean I should right? But anyway, she was really nice and I understood that she wasn't fluent in English so I didn't want to make things hard for her. When it came to trying the food, which my friend and I both ate at our own homes later on, we liked it at first, but as I was eating I lost my appetite very quickly so I stopped eating... I drank a lot of water since I was feeling sick a little while after I finished eating then took a nap to see if the queasiness would go away. I woke up and I still felt sick in my stomach to the point where I felt like I had to throw up... (I did gag a few times, but I really tried to not throw up).. as much as I wanted to like the noodles, it just didn't sit right with me. ): My friend also told me she had felt sick afterwards, and the other person I bought it for said he, too, lost his appetite and did not feel that great after eating it.. I have heard this place before but never had the chance to check it out until just this weekend. I love jja jang myun (black bean noodles) and tang soo yook (sweet and sour pork) and my fiancé loves the chanpong (spicy seafood soup), esp he was hanging from day golf. Everything tasted amazing! The sides were perfect and the service was awesome! The lady suggested that next time, we can order the same soup without the noodles and with rice instead, that way since my fiancé didn't finish his soup, we could've taken the rest of the awesome soup home! The tangsooyook was crispy and cooked to perfection. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu. And, they serve alcohol! Trust me, order the Ganjajang and Ganpoongi. Everyone orders the jajangmyeon, but the secret is to order the Ganjajang. You'll never go back to regular jajangmyeon after eating the Ganjajang, which is a lot like your garden-variety jajangmyeon, but the sauce is usually prepared on order without starch. I asked my son what he would like to eat for lunch and to my delight he said Jajang Myun! I always prefer coming here because there is always plenty of parking and it's away from traffic so easy to get in and out of. Parking is only $1 and you just pay in the box before walking into the restaurant. It was the beginning of the lunch rush so it was a little busy inside but we were still able to get a table right away. Our server stood off to the side while we looked at the menu and promptly came up to take our orders when we were ready. My son recently became a vegetarian so we made sure to ask for the regular Jajang Myun with no meat. I didn't feel like Jampong today so I got the seafood Jajang Myun. Since it was a little busy it took a little longer to get our food but they were very quick to get our little side dishes with the picked radish, kimchi, and sweet onion with Jajang paste. My son gobbled up his noodles as usual and so did I. The only think I was disappointed in was the lack of seafood in my dish. Three little shrimps and barely any squid pieces. My noodles would still have meat but there was barely any meat as well. Maybe next time I should ask them to put the meat that would have been in my son's dish into mine? Other than that still great noodles and great service and will come back. I'll just get the regular Jajang Myun or just get the Jampong if I want seafood! read more

I am fairly new to Northern Chinese cuisine (seems borderline Korean, given that most owners, employees of these types of restaurants are Korean and they serve a banchan of sorts). Being a HUGE noodle fan of all sorts (pasta, ramen, udon, soba), after trying ja jiang myun (black-bean noodles), I have been a fan of Honolulu's northern-chinese restaurants like On Dong and Eastern Paradise. After seeing the temporary closure of On Dong due to a kitchen fire, I found via Yelp (OF COURSE) about Dowon. It doesn't have a sign frontage but is located on the backside of Ichiriki Pi'ikoi. Parking is paid ($1 per hour in the lot adjacent, put money in small money box, located on the diamond head side of the lot under the stairs). Of the aforementioned northern-chinese cuisine restaurants, Dowon is definitely the nicest and cleanest of them. Same basic banchan of white onions served with black bean sauce, homemade daikon, and kim-chee. We always order a seafood ja jiang myun, which is a black-bean sauce that is both salty and a tad sweet. The sauce is very thick, but still is smooth. While it has small bay shrimp and squid, there are also chunks of cabbage. Comes with what looks like spaghetti, but with less eggs than an Italian noodle. I like how it is served separate from the sauce, which you add together and mix, mix, MIX!!! We also regularly get the Gan Poong chicken or pork (Ggan pung gi), which is peking-style fried garlic chicken or pork, and topped with finely diced pieces of carrots, garlic, and peppers (not sure what type). We also enjoy the cold jellyfish and the jamppong, which is a spicy seafood noodle soup. They serve domestic beers, two types of shochu. Prices are pretty reasonable, usually about $40-50 for two people, with drinks. read more

Shoutout to Regina K. for letting me post first; you're the best! :D Anyway, a couple of people were asking me about some amazing new jia jyang myun place that apparently opened up near Ala Moana, and I obviously have no clue. I was told it was really authentic, just like they do in Korea, and super good. Psssh, I'm a grandma, and mostly live under a rock, really. The restaurant in question is right behind Ichiriki and located where the old Jong Ga Jip restaurant used to be (correct my spelling if I'm wrong), hence, the layout is the same, if you've ever been here when it was still Jong Ga Jip. The restaurant is super clean and looks incredibly new though. Since it's a bit hard to find, I'm going to assume (and hope) that they won't have much of a wait time. My group and I went during lunch, so while it wasn't packed, there were a few other groups with in the restaurant with us. We got out usual Korean sides, which were good. Then I obviously ordered the jia jyang myun. I can't tell if I've been swayed by the hype but it genuinely is super good. The black sauce is flavorful and coats the noodles nicely while the noodles itself had the perfect texture. You guys do not want me to start complaining about other places giving me a big block of noodles that are stuck together or too mushy. Ick. While I'm saddened to hear that I can't get the stone pot bibimbap from Jong Ga Jip anymore, jia jyang myun at Dowon Chinese Restaurant is a worthy replacement to fill my tummy. read more

This place has mediocre food at best and is waay over priced for the quality and quantity they give. I ordered a $22 entree and they charged me extra for RICE !!! I would think the $22 for 7 pieces of garlic shrimp would cover a bowl of 7 cent rice !!
