I love this place. I don't love it because it's spectacular or earth shattering or something totally different and outside the box. I love it because the food is simple, fresh, and consistent. I drop by Dozens whenever I'm on my way to work and forgot to eat breakfast, which is pretty often. I usually get the "Steamboat", which is scrambled eggs with melted cheese and sour cream on top, bacon, potatoes, and a slice of fruit. It's always the same, and always tasty. Would I bring former President Obama here if I had the chance to take him out to breakfast? Probably not. But I'd bring my wife and kids and everyone would leave full and happy. read more

Dozens is an old school greasy spoon-type breakfast and lunch place in the heart of Denver. Located in an old house, this place is cute and cozy, but no frills and a bit run down. The menu has many breakfast classics with fun Colorado names such as a sandwich named the Civic Center and an omelette called Lookout Mountain. I had the California Club based on my server's recommendation, and I must admit it was very disappointing. For $10, it should have had more of the good stuff- there was hardly anything between the slices, and it was just bland! If my rating was based on my meal alone, it would definitely only be 3 stars, but my companion had the biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon and THAT was delicious(guilty as charged- I totally stole a bite!)! I also saw other yummy things coming out of the kitchen including cinnamon rolls and such- maybe a lackluster meal is what I get for trying to be healthy! Dozens was certainly good, especially if you're not counting calories, but did not leave me craving a return visit in the near future. However, if a classic breakfast is what you're after (as opposed to the trendy meals found at all the hot brunch places around town) then this is a good choice at reasonable prices. read more

This place is just great. I come here a lot for breakfast with my mom, usually on Sundays, and we're always greeted like friends with a warm welcome and big smiles. The food is always fast, fresh, and delicious. If you're like me, and hesitant to order something with a side of fruit because you don't want a big old scoop of soggy canned mush, have no fear! You won't find anything but the freshest, ripest stuff available here. I wish I learned that sooner, because I missed out on some waffles piled high with a mountain of strawberries and bananas for way too long. They can get busy durring normally busy breakfast hours, but if you time it right, you can be in and out in 20 minutes -wellfed and happy. Without over spending. Service was okay and so was the food. What was not okay was the hosts behavior, in my opinion. I just didn't leave very satisfied. Below are a few quotes from the hosts on the phone and to other guests: * I'm 8 months pregnant and asked the hosts for a glass of ice water, one host went to get it and the other said "you live here, and you're pregnant, and you're not carrying a water bottle?" - she could have been trying to be funny but it didn't land... * "We are too busy for to go's the kitchen won't do it" - I feel like if this may have been true, but there was a better way to say it * Told a party of 10 "It could be a 45 minute wait or 50 or 75. We don't know" - that group was not upset about the original quote time of "over an hour" and just wanted their name on the wait. After they added their name and went outside the one host told the other host "You're going to die, I tried to tell them it was 75 minutes but they still wanted to wait" * A lady asked about how much longer for their table and they said "we don't know. Could be 10 minutes could be a half hour we just don't know" - while this may be true I was just hoping for some more hospitality from the hosts... Overall the trip was fine, it was just hard to watch rude behavior. I don't feel like waiting 30-45+ minutes due to understaffing was an issue for anyone especially since there was a 5K a block away, but being dismissive and trying to make people leave or not want to wait was not acceptable behavior to me. read more

Cute little place for breakfast/lunch. We stopped in for a quick bite before touring the mint (which we actually didn't get to do) - at least it was close by. I ordered a scramble and expected all the stuff to be scrambled into the eggs, but instead it was all on top. No biggie because it was very cheesy and they used high quality bacon and yummy - just not exactly what I expected. I thought the potatoes left a bit to be desired as well. My husband enjoyed his omelette and the apple butter was a nice treat with the english muffin (both house made?) Also a small parking lot with free parking - nice! Before I say anything else...Let me just start with this: I have developed a food aversion to hollandaise sauce thanks to Dozens. My husband and I thought it would be fun to venture downtown this morning and try out a breakfast spot that our neighbor Suzanne recommended recently! Ohhhh what a brunch mistake we made!!!!! The potatoes: tragic. They were cold, hard as rocks, and simple crusty (not crispy) in the WORST way possible. The coffee: burnt. Our water pitcher: filled to the brim with ice and water. It was SO full that my husband could not help but spill water all over his crouch when trying to be sweet and pour me a glass. There was anemic baby shrimp on my Benedict. Why? Substituted for the English Muffin that Benedicts are meant to be made with: a soggy square of puff pastry? Someone please contact Martha ASAP. And lastly, hollandaise for DAYSSSSS obliterated any sense of what I was actually eating. I felt as if I was eating different textures of hollandaise. Nasty. such a cute cozy diner!! the staff are super nice & make you feel like you're family. the award winning cinnamon roll is a MUST. it's unlike any cinnamon roll because it's not bread, it's a flaky pastry. the yummiest. i got the "notanotheromelette" which was a skillet of potatoes, green peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, and scrambled eggs. i added bacon which was delicious. this entree came with an english muffin and fruit, aka a single piece of pineapple. the skillet could have been more seasoned & the veggies more cooked, but overall it was good! i recommend adding the bacon. read more

My first time ever at this location. Our server was Sheila (not sure how to spell her name, but she had short red hair!), and she was great. She seemed to be doing a million things at once so kudos to her for being as composed as she was... I ordered the steak house salad which, and I am not exaggerating, was the best salad I have ever had in my life. Service could have been horrible, but that salad would still give this place 5 stars by itself! I got the salad's streak cooked medium well, I had ranch as the dressing, and I added avacado. Turns out this was the perfect combination. I highly, highly recommend that specific salad order. I will say, I do not consider myself a salad connoisseur, quite the opposite actually, I do not like most salads. Walked in to one of the most friendly, welcoming greetings I think I've ever gotten at a restaurant. The Northsider omelette was pretty good, accompanied by a buttered English muffin, seasoned breakfast potatoes, and an oatmeal raisin cookie. Dozens is my favorite diner in Denver!! The staff are welcoming and the food always hits the spot for Sunday morning brunch.

I'm not sure if you've heard or not, but I kind of have a crush on breakfast. I mean, sure it's mostly on the bacon part, but I've also had my eye on Belgian waffles, biscuits and gravy and the occasional omelet. And so I've now kind of developed a giant crush on Dozens. They are clearly an egg-heavy menu (get it - Dozens?), but they offer plenty of other options if you are of those anti-egg people. Plus they have delicious French press coffee, which is enough for 2 to share or 1 to overindulge in. The atmosphere is adorable as has been mentioned. It's just a little, old house that's been revamped into a comfy, homey restaurant. The only thing I found strange were the server's shirts were a little short, like belly showing shirts, but everyone wore shirts underneath those shirts. read more

Great food. Very accommodating. Called a couple days ahead to reserve a table for 8 on a Sunday morning. I was told that they did not take reservations for Sunday mornings and that those were the busiest days, but I could call ahead the morning of to give them a heads up that we were coming and they would start seating accordingly so that they would have a table for us shortly after our arrival. Very cool! Not too many small restaurants willing to do that. We ended up just showing up instead and were seated surprisingly quickly for there being a huge event at the Library (a block away). Unfortunately, my group grew a bit more than I expected, so as chairs were added, our table was a bit uncomfortable and we felt like we were in everyone's way, but that was our fault, not theirs. They were quite accommodating. They have great menu options and all of them sound so good it is difficult to decide. They also have low-carb side options, instead of the regular hash browns and bread! Yay! I got my grubbin green chile omelet with cottage cheese & tomatoes on the side, delicious! Parking is a little dicey. If you are lucky, you can find a spot in Dozens lot. Metered parking is free on Sundays, but you may have to hike a bit. Just give yourself a little extra time to park. Also, the place is very small, so be prepared to wait, but the wait is well worth it. If you want to sit on the patio, be prepared to wait quite a long time, as it is quite popular and quite small. read more

Decided to try this place on a whim. Its close to where i live and i pass it by all the time. I get to my table and i immediately notice a dirty coffee cup. The food was...exceedingly mediocre? I've eaten here many times now, and there are many positives -the food itself being the biggest positive. Their omelette's and notanomelette's are pretty original, the vegetables are fresh, and their offerings of apple butter and french press coffee somewhat unique. I also like the building being a modified house. At first I found the bathroom scary, but realized that it was clean and actually pretty functional though crowded....just a little dark. Before today, they would have received 4 stars, and even now I feel they deserve 3 1/2. I went for an early lunch from jury duty to find it not very crowded. My waitress was prompt and friendly, but the other waitress on duty was conversing so loudly in the next room, I could do nothing but listen to her discussing reality television, her boyfriend, and her political views. I noticed other people glancing her general direction with a bit of annoyance as well, so I don't think it was just me being petty when I felt like asking her to turn her megaphone voice down a few notches. So I would give this a 1/2 star deduction. The other star deduction is for having to bring your payment up to pay, which is a pet peeve of mine in places that are above the greasy diner in stature. Today the cashier/host was outside on his phone for quite some time, didn't notice me, and an off duty person in a beer shirt took care of me. Let's keep in mind three stars isn't bad, it's just not spectacular. I ordered Anothernotanomlet which was a skillet type breakfast of potatoes and veggies topped with cheese, two eggs and an English muffin. I thought it was really good once I added hot sauce and some salt. It was really freaking temperature hot though, so I was staring at it drooling for awhile before I could even begin to try and eat it. It provided enough food for breakfast AND lunch. I do think it's weird that they don't have pancakes, but it seems as though they are very "egg centered" at this particular breakfast place. That's fine with me since I wanted savory breakfast. The ambiance is like The Egg and I or Perkins. Not too great. The seats were really uncomfortable, and I had a "booth" seat which was more like a bench with some padding on it, and the seat part is so small that you can't lean back at all. So you have to sit pencil straight all through breakfast. I don't like being forced into good posture. You have to pay for your bill at the front in a cramped little entry way and we had to wait for awhile which I didn't like. Seemed too IHOP-ish to me. Five of us from out of town visited Denver and found Dozens on Yelp.com. We decided to try it. We absolutely loved the atmosphere, the vibe, and the quality of the egg dishes. (The omelets were a little bit of a surprise-- all of the ingredients are under a pile of fluffy eggs, which were somehow cooked into a swirl-like design. Though it wasn't my preference, it was aesthetically pleasing, and the taste was still good.) Recommendations: the bacon, the home fries, and the French press. Now, why I gave it 3 stars... first of all, the cinnamon roll really is not that great. It's sort of flat and bread-like, instead of the doughy mound of syrupy confection that I was expecting. Also, it does not come with icing. This item was the most surprising because so many other Yelpers had raved about it. Second, my French toast was very mushy (almost slimy?) in the center of the bread... almost like it had soaked in the egg mixture too long before cooking. Third, the wait staff wasn't quite as friendly as I would have expected from a place with such a "homey" charm. Finally, there just weren't that many non-egg options.
