No need to yap, let's get to the hap, here it is: Cucumber Salad (Dumpling Mate) - Kind of crazy, I know, but this was my favorite dish. Super refreshing, loaded up with all the right fixings and sauces, yoooo, listen when I tell you, order this. I'd go back just for this salad. Bone Broth Mapo Tofu - My second favorite dish!! Super silky, soft tofu, topped off with a legit house sauce and fresh veggie toppings, flames for sure, another must order for me. The sauce was so good I started sipping my food in it haha Chong Qing Noodle - Awesome dish, on the spicy side, kind of reminded me of a beefed up Dan Dan noodles (which I love). Broth was hot and spicy, hit the spot and would be an awesome winter dish. Bone Broth Chili Dumplings - A lot of dishes had Bone Broth (which they make in house over a 16 hr process) and peanuts, which I love. These were solid, nice kick to em, again the sauce was delish and I preferred them over the steamed dumplings but both were good. Steamed Dumplings - 1800 year old recipe and it didn't disappoint. Good flavor, steamed nicely, good app for sure. Herbal Tea - I'm on a tea crazy right now since giving up coffee, this drink beats out coke in China every year in sales (according to the restaurant). The eggplant was the best, it was very good! Very soft juicy and tasty (only change is that maybe they should put less seasoning on top). The squid was very disappointing, it was as hard as a rock, and drier than beef jerky! It hurts my teeth to chew it!! Oh, the rice was also very hard. The most unique Chinese restaurant I've been to. I was greeted by the manager/owner (don't know) and he was very friendly and talkative. I was also greeted by a small dog that was very friendly. The manager/owner motioned me to a table and told me to sit on the side that had a bench. The dog jumped up beside me and cuddled up to me. Good thing I love dogs! I had lemon chicken. It was grilled and a little crispy. It was great and there was far more food than I could eat. Took the excess home in a box. I was surprised that it didn't come with rice, but that's OK. This place is fairly small, I would guess 15-20 tables. Half are inside, half are outside under a canopy. There is little parking, I suppose that many customers either walk from the ASU campus or get takeout orders. One thing I found odd was that while they have a printed menu, they also have an online menu that has a lot more stuff on it. And, you order from your phone, even if you're seated at a table. We also got the curry and it was mild good but very very mild, that made it uninteresting. Had the lamb skewers they were good and was the item we got that came thru with some spice. The server asked if she still wanted her food and he said it would take another 20 to 30 mins cause they are busy so she said forget it. The food is definitely above average, but for me, half the battle is just getting there and finding parking. I just parked in front of the vague restricted parking directly in front of the restaurant‍. Owner loves to talk. He is very friendly and open about his business. He has some lovely cute tiny dogs walking around the place and they're so fun to hang out with. Get this: Chong Xing Noodles-high quality soup packed with spicy flavoring. It has a slight mala/minty/numbing/spice , but it is scaled down quite a bit. Even then, only order this if you like spicy food. Lamb rice noodles - also so much goodness packed into one XL sized bowl. It's a very light, low spice dish. Definitely recommend this if you can't handle spice. Pineapple chicken - if you want a rice dish, I thought this dish paired well with rice. Eat this dish family styled and so you have some variety into your meal! Skip this: Steam dumplings - I'm not sure if it was just me, but I was hoping that it was going to be softer & juicer than it actually was. I stopped by with a few friends for lunch and decided to sit in the patio area. Every single table had dirty dishes and cutlery. Since there seemed to be just one person manning the entire front of house and cleaning, it took a bit for us to be seated. The menu is kind of eclectic and seemed to include northern Chinese, Mexican and Middle Eastern influenced dishes. I ordered the Passionfruit chicken which sounded interesting, as well as their Middle Eastern fries. Middle Eastern Fries: The fries were really good, crisp, really nicely seasoned. The seasoning blend had a good kick to it. Passionfruit Chicken (comes with rice): Crispy, deep fried chicken in a bright red sauce. I expected it to be spicy based on the color but it wasn't, it was reminiscent of a less sweet orange chicken type dish. I really appreciated that it wasn't too sugary. The chicken was crisp but once you got through all the breading, there was barely any chicken. Additionally, a lot of the chicken was tough and difficult to chew. I ordered veggie fried rice which essentially was a meat fried rice, just without the meat, and the highly recommended pineapple chicken. Both were hot and yummy by the time I made it home. Only drawbacks were arriving at the time I was told the food would be ready, only to have to wait 20mins for it to be cooked. Also, hubby said that it was very dirty in there, not sure if it had just not been cleaned in a while since it was so late at night. Lastly, I was trying to order an item that is pictured on the website, the person on the phone was not very helpful in trying to figure out the item so they lost money there. Portion sizes are HUGE. We made the mistake of thinking the portions would be on the small size due to price of plates, but we were sorely mistaken. The owner even came by our table and said "this must be your first time here, looks like you didn't know about our portions". We had the kung pao chicken (good, but salty), orange chicken (our fave of the visit), steamed dumplings (second fave), and beef skewers (overcooked and dry). Staff were super friendly and attentive. The owner sat down next to us and visited, telling us about the new dumplings he's testing out. He even offered to give us samples of ones he brought in earlier, but we were too stuffed. I went to this place yesterday with my family and it was our first time eating here. When we went inside we were greeted by Shely ( hope I spelled it right lol ) who is also our server. Went here with a friend and we split the Chong Qing Noodles and Eggplant appetizer. Both dishes were delicious but I was positively surprised by the eggplant the most. It was nicely seasoned and as someone who doesn't eat eggplant often, I enjoyed it! Would recommend it if you're in the same boat and want to try something different. The Chong Qing Noodles was packed with flavor, but it did hurt my stomach after, so I wouldn't order it again. They have 2 cute dogs roaming around inside the restaurant. Personally this restaurant is an enigma to me. The first time I tried to visit, the kitchen was closed due to a kitchen issue. The location is challenging as their are few parking spots and often you have to park in the back next to a dumpster area. The interior reminded me of a teenagers room curiously laid out with lots of stuffed animal/food items and even the large bar was untidly covered with stuffed animal/food shapes. there is a cool looking paper dragging the drapes throughout the ceiling area. The most interesting decor was the vintage payphone. There are only about 6 tables in the dining area, and some are pushed together. The menu and ordering is contactless and many items reminded me of Chinese street vendor orders mixed with a middle eastern influence of lamb and pita bread. A sheet on the table made recommendations but I was a bit apprehensive to believe since this business started out as a food truck. A friend and I ordered pineapple chicken, around the world fried chicken, and chicken fried rice because the description said it included bone broth. What made the dining experience unappealing is that while you're dining in, it isn't a complete restaurant experience. Everything seems à la carte and dishes do not seem tied together in any way. I think the food would be better as a takeout experience. We sat at a table with a vinyl tablecloth and single dishes came out that lacked consistency with their names. pineapple chicken was not bad, but did not have a pineapple flavor and some of the pieces or not consistently crunchy. The around the world chicken was crunchy dark meat with some Chinese spices. The bone broth chicken fried rice with soggy and I ended up leaving it because it lacked flavor. Service: I was greeted by the young server immediately, he was very kind and attentive. He informed me my order that I had called in about 20 minutes ago wasn't ready yet. He provided me with a water and I was greeted by the owner's two adorable, friendly dogs! I played with the dogs and my order was ready after 5 minutes. Order: Pineapple Chicken with chicken fried rice, $10.99: This definitely caught my eye! It's advertised as their best selling item so I HAD to order it. It definitely did not disappoint! Think orange chicken but better! Not sure that I really got a pineapple taste but the sauce was yummy. I opted to upgrade from the regular rice it came with for chicken fried rice (not sure how much the upgrade was). Good but there definitely could have been more. Definitely was not enough rice for the entrée. Beef Skewers, $10.99: The seasoning is definitely on the spicier side but not too spicy. Just the right amount of salt. Definitely wish the beef itself were larger pieces; felt small for the price of $11. Fried Beijing Dumplings, $10.99: My initial thought was that I've never had dumplings shaped this way before, lol. A little doughier than usual because of the shape but the pork filling was traditional. More expensive than average as most dumpling orders of 10 are between $6-8. Does not come with sauce which I believe they state on their menu. Overall I am impressed with the quality of Dragon Flame; the taste is there. However, I do feel like the quality/quantity ratio could be better; I paid ~$40 for 3 dishes which I don't have an issue with; my issues are that there should be more rice included with the pineapple chicken, the beef on the beef skewers should be larger, and the fried Beijing dumplings should at least come with sauce.
