I've wanted to come here for years but never got around to it. Finally, last month, I was in Los Feliz with some friends with nothing to do. The Drawing Room came to mind immediately. It's a dive bar, for sure. It's small - not much space to stand if you don't get a seat, but it's not overly crowded. It has a mediocre beer selection but what else would you expect? What I really liked about this place was the jukebox. Five songs for a dollar?! What a steal and what a great selection. Was the Drawing Room worth the 4 year wait? This place seems to be packed with older townies, which gives it a small town vibe. The drinks are standard. The service is fine. There's a parking lot and street parking. But I wouldn't make it my destination for a night out. Because the drinks are cheap it might be a nice place to pre-game, but beyond that it's not very appealing unless hanging with a bunch of middle aged regulars is your idea of a party. read more

This is actually a great little bar to go to. The drinks aren't spendy and they have some rad bartenders. It's small, but the seating is great and they have a decent jukebox. Crowd during the day is more middle aged drunk ass dudes that are hilarious. During the night you get a lot more young people. And not necessarily the hipster kind or snobby kind either. Mixed and fun people. I'd give it 4 stars if it weren't for its SHITTY KARAOKE. Avoid Sunday nights unless you are a regular. Been there several times and so have other people I know. usually the same result. You wait forever because the KJ plays favorites to regulars. He'll ALWAYS put regulars ahead of others so you might see several people sing two or even THREE times before you get up. This would probably be a great karaoke spot if it weren't for that, though. If want to be a regular and go through that than it might not be so bad, but having been a KJ myself before that's just poor business and social habits. Other than that I love the bar and go there more than most for sure. It's definitely dive, but one of the better dive bars you can find in L.A. and Dive is more my style. read more

Love this place! It's got that chill, laid back, dive bar feel minus any of the sketchiness of other dive bars. It's a great place to come to with friends, or even just pop in for a couple as everytime I've been I've met really cool, interesting people. The bartenders are great, Buck in particular as he can pour you a stiff drink while also having a deep philosophical conversation on Shakespear. BONUS: There's almost always parking. read more

I'm into dive bars and this one just may take the cake. Dark and seedy with a sticky floor that probably hasn't been mopped in months. Years? Ever?! There ain't a window in this place, which is certainly an intentional effort to keep the eyes of the boozed up working-world castaways safe from that big ball of fire in the sky with a 6am opening hour. We strolled in late on a Monday night to catch the end of the worst Monday Night football game in history and were "greeted" by the bartender. The rest of the crowd gave us a once over and must have deemed us sketchy enough to hang. We ordered a round of a few beers, a whiskey on the rocks and a whiskey ginger for just over $20.00. The prices are not on par with the visible overhead but you gotta pay for the free pizza and butt scratch sausage somehow, right? Waaaaaaait. Rewind. Did Brad B just say free pizza?! And butt scratch sausage?! Yes, my friends. I did. For Monday Night Football you can help yourself to box after box of cheap pizza that every drunk in the bar has put their paws on. Grabbing the pieces, ripping them apart, passing over the slices with veggies on them and condensing the leftovers into one schmorgesborg box of dive bar pizza heaven. Eat your hearts out, folks. It looked disgusting. So now you're wondering what butt scratch sausage is. Yes, yes. It's not easy to find, but they have it here. It starts as your typical sausage in a crock pot stewing in water, beer or mop water - who knows? Then something amazing happens. A drunk 4'6" man with dirty greying facial hair, a beat up ball cap and sagging pants will stroll directly through your game of darts to check out the free pizza. Once he has tested the pizza's temperature with his finger, he will pass on it and head over to the crock pot containing the sausage. Just before reaching it he pauses, sticks his entire left hand into his pants and scratches his butt. The vigorous scratching will go on for about a minute and covers all surface area before the hand is removed and the journey to the corner continues. It's now when the magic happens. He will insert aforementioned left hand directly into the crock pot and christen the sausage water officially giving you butt scratch sausage. Not many will notice the sausage transformation take place, but all will enjoy equally never knowing what exactly makes the sausage at the Drawing Room so damn delicious. read more

If you haven't been to DR at 6:00 a.m. on a Sunday then you're missing out. Regular hours are of course great, too. Don't freak out about the cash only business-there's an ATM. Bartenders are hit or miss with their friendliness (except Mario and Scotty) but what they all have in common is a heavy hand with the booze. Maybe because of this, I left my wallet there one night and went back the next day and got it back with money and all still in tact. Definitely the warmest, homiest bar around. read more

Tried this place out with a female friend recently. We were specifically looking for a dive bar in the area which was between us, location-wise. Maybe I'm getting too old for proper dives, but my experience was not a positive one. Got there around 6 or 7pm looking cute, maybe too cute for this place. The bar was full of men of varying ages (25-60?); almost all of them looked like locals. Some of them looked hammered (already??) and downright creepily stared at my friend and I. There was only one other female patron at the end of the bar with a guy. They were watching whatever game was on the tv and screaming at it loudly whenever something did or didn't happen. Kind of strange (and highly annoying) for a dive bar in this part of town, but ok. The biggest disappointment was approaching the bar for a drink. We each ordered a Fat Tire, which came only in bottles. (This place does not have any taps.) The female bartender was, let's say, curt. She seemed really put out and treated us as though we didn't belong there or something. As soon as we sat down and started drinking, I asked my friend if the beer seemed flat. She agreed that it did and I considered saying something, but figured it wasn't a big deal, so we kept chatting and drinking the stale beer. When we finished that beer, we decided to stay for one more. My friend went to the bathroom and I again approached the bartender for another beer. I politely told her that we were going to order a different beer this time, because FYI, the Fat Tire is flat. Her response? "Ok, order something else then." Yep, we are going to, and I did, but I didn't need the bitchy attitude. I mean, what kind of bartender says that?! And we were charged full price regardless. You'd think she might say that this one is on her. Nope. Needless to say, we won't be going back. Also, I know this place is supposed to be a dive, but the bathroom was really gross. As in, not sure the last time they cleaned it, floor was a bit sticky, it smelled really badly, gross. I had wondered if there was a video camera installed by some perv kind of gross. Finally, if you do decide to visit this nastiness, please note that this place is cash only, so if you don't want to pay all the fees like we did, be sure to grab some cash first. What's with all these people calling the Drawing Room a dive bar?! This is a few steps up from my usual watering holes. It has chairs. There's no metal detector. Hell, the dart board's not even real. All that said, this is a great place to get hammered. The bacon wrapped sausage guy hangs out outside on weekends making sure that you're able to satisfy drunken cravings. The people are friendly--except for the guy who yelled at me about my dart playing style a few weeks back. "Dude," I wanted to say, "They're plastic tipped darts, I don't care HOW many trophies you have--plastic tip means I can throw however I want." Except he was big, so I said nothing and sulked into my suds. Hmm. Maybe it is a dive bar. Dang. read more

Great place any day of the week. Drinks are super cheap and super strong. I've never walked out of this place unsatisfied. It's full of every type; the old, the young, the hip & the dirty. Generally there is good music on the jukebox and a game I'm ignoring in the background. It is a small place so if you're traveling in a large group, the weekends may be more difficult to move around &/or find seating. Always worth it if you just want to get your drink on. And as I learned with one of my fellow Yelpers, it's a great place to stop and have a few before heading off to Albertson's to grocery shop! read more

Drawing Room gets five stars because it is dark and kind of gross and a little weird and reminds me of many bars in Philadelphia. It is not bougie and I have never had a hard time parking in the lot. Also KARAOKE on Sunday and lots of regulars and I think there is a pool table but by the time I am here I am usually too drunk to notice things like pool tables. read more

Favorite dive, favorite bartenders, favorite jukebox, and favorite regulars in LA. Girls bathroom is better than most dives, guys restroom is worse. To the reviews complaining about the wine selection, they're a cocktail bar in a strip mall, so that shouldn't really be a shock. This is a gem of a hole in the wall bar if a laid back dive is your thing. The guy that runs the place isn't old enough to be anyone's great grandfather, so whoever has dealt with inappropriate comments from the person who says they run the bar, that guy was probably lying to you about who he is. That is super upsetting and I'm sorry to hear that but neither the owner nor manager fit that bill, so I think it's just some creep. read more

Use to come here about a good 7 years ago.. at first it was pretty mellow and okay and we where enjoying ourselves.. Cash only spot ( boo) ... then I went out for some air and some guy was crying and I asked him what was wrong and he mentioned that his daughter had suddenly passed away and I told him I'm so sorry for your lost, then he went on with how he blamed himself for her death and I told him what I thought was to comfort him, then who know what the hell got into him but he blew up at me and I was in total shock.. then he proceeded to go inside the bar and literally yell to the whole bar about some bitch outside ( that be me) and about his daughter and who knows what else he was blubbering, the waitress came out and I was WTF? she explained he just lost his daughter, I was that's no excuse.. I was literally frighten to go back in and had the waitress bring me the bill outside... Keep the drunks who are already drunk out for the safety of others..I still play over my mind what happened? I can't even review this place 100% since we where only there for about 30 minutes before all this drama went on... but from the time I was there, the crowd is mixed and sorta rude, the bathroom was DIRTY, I don't like that it's cash only bar, so there went added atm fees to my account, the bartender as nice as she was, just didn't go with the vibe of the bar, good jukebox, okay decor and crazy drunks who will beat the crap out of you for being nice... If you happen to go on a night when Christina is there, have her whip you up one of her concoctions...I am privy to the cactus cooler...i mean...it DOES taste like a cactus cooler! I don't usually go there on Friday or Saturday because like most bars in LA, it is filled with overly eager college students or B&T folks...but on Sundays....come prepared to sing your ass off and do it well, because Ill be there judging your shit like i was Paula Abdul! I am a dive bar lover. The dirtier and grungier the better. This place is awesome!!! I met up with a friend last night and he suggested this place. I went to Yelp and read the reviews and decided to take a chance. I am so glad I did. I loved it. The bartenders were really nice and made my two vodka sodas very strong. And they were only $5. What a deal!!! The place is a little dirty but I don't care. I like dirty in a bar. The ladies room was pretty darn clean. Another going point. They must have cleaned that day. There wasn't too many hipsters in there I must have missed the hipster parade that hangs in there. Was meeting a friend here for a drink. Bartender 'cards' us (we're both over 30). Friend has a temporary license from the DMV. That (plus deep facial lines and grey hairs) wasn't enough for them. They refused service. Now, I "get" that it's the law you have to be 21 to drink. It's also probably the one law this place actually adheres to. But I'm tired of these affected 'dive bars' with their authoritarian rules. You can't be "hip" and "cool" and also act like assistant prosecutors for the state. Rustic Inn is right across the street.
