Drift cafe rocks! Excellent selection of smoothies, coffees and bowls. Got the blueberry recovery and was so so good! My girlfriend and friend got the other pictured so aesthetically pleasing and they both loved them as well. Place was clean, pet friendly, and the workers were kind as well especially with a line almost always out the door. Do keep in mind it is Newport so you will pay a little more but honestly was really good and would come back.

After arriving via the Providence Newport Ferry, we were looking for a place to grab some breakfast. We checked our Yelp map and wandered around the area, looking for a good venue. We drifted across the street to the Drift Cafe, and once we finally found the correct entry (downstairs using the right side of the restaurant) we entered this popular and somewhat eclectic little cafe. It wasn't easy finding an open table, the venue is small, and Drift is popular. We ordered a breakfast sandwich and all day breakfast plate, which took about 10 to 15 minutes to arrive. Both of which were hot and tasty. We'd be delighted to return here.

Have been here a few times now for coffee and it's always good. I love this cafe---it's the cutest one in Newport for sure! I'm so happy they expanded; i think the larger space suits them well! Their viral smoothie didn't disappoint. It was very yummy! I have loved everything I've had from here! Service is great. The girls here are always super helpful!

We came in here for a quick drink. I got the mango matcha and it was very good. The service fast and the menu looked great. They have a lot of seating options which was surprising because it looked like a small cafe from the outside.

Food was awesome! Service was awesome. You get your food quickly. The space was very clean for being very busy they get people in & out quickly and clean up after very quickly as well. But no one who comes is rushed it's very chill. I do think the items were very pricy for what you get in my honest opinion. But other than that I loved the place and it was a nice spot to visit on my trip to Road Island

Nice vibes, tasty food and good service. Would definitely come back. Especially to try more of the breakfast bowls. I tried the good morning wrap which was also delicious. Also the food came out very fast! They also have a wide variety of smoothies and some seasonal specials you may have to go in to see.

Great spot! Excellent food, extremely friendly staff. If you looking for a cute little spot for breakfast, this is your place. The food is fresh and flavorful. I tried the farmers scramble with sourdough. Fantastic.

Stopped by Drift on 7/5/20 for iced coffee as part of the RI Food Fights Iced Coffee promotion. Located in the heart of Newport on Thames, I was told by staff the cafe has only been open for about 2 months. What a cute place! The decor has a cute modern, beachy, casual flair that perfectly encompasses the casual-chic Newport summer vibe. They even have a few tables off the street for outdoor seating, which is prime and a rare find on the busy streets of Newport. There was a small line that moved quickly. The barista was super nice, and offered me a large iced coffee even though the coupon didn't specify size. The coffee was smooth and refreshing. While I didn't order any food, the items other customers ordered were ample portions and looked really healthy and delicious! Would definitely recommend stopping by, especially to help out a small business that's starting out during this challenging era. read more

I am out of towner who's been to Newport before and this time I brought my friends who were visiting from New Zealand and the Philippine (and one from North Carolina). I really wanted to like this place but was disappointed with the food. Daughter ordered hot oats and she said it was undercooked. Two of us ordered the farmer's scramlet and while it was tasty, we both got stomach upsets soon after. The drip coffee was delicious however. read more

Trendy aesthetics with cute sitting areas with large menu options for vegan/vegetarian/healthy choices. They make they're own syrups for the coffee, obviously in true fall fashion we tried the pumpkin spice and it was decent!! You'll miss it when you walk by if you're not looking for it, it is down a set of stairs ! Worth a pit stop for a good coffee or light lunch ! read more

This place was by far my favorite place to get breakfast in Newport. Such a cute little cafe with AMAZING food and really great coffee. The girls who work there are extremely friendly. Came here on a trip to Newport and so glad we stopped by! Service was amazing and we tried the Be Zen and Oats n Honey lattes. Both were good but definitely recommend trying Be Zen! This is an amazing spot!! Check it out if you live in or visit Newport, RI. We were told to go here by a few of our friends who live in Newport. First I will say it's an amazing atmosphere. Nice decor, very inviting, and they even have art hanging up by a local artist. They also have super cute macrame chairs to swing in! I got a pumpkin latte. I was curious if they use real pumpkin. I asked and it turns out they make their own pumpkin syrup for the lattes in house. So, that was a bonus! We were told the food was great. So we went prepared to have some breakfast. I had the Sunset bowl which was to die for. It was super fresh and filled me up! My fiancé had the spicy bird scramlet. It has goat cheese paleo buffalo sauce drizzle on top. I had some and it was delicious! He said it was like nothing he has had before. He highly recommends it! They truly do have some unique dishes. Good options for vegans as well. On top of everything our service was great. They have a choice of breakfast, lunch, smoothies, bowls and much more! We will be back soon! Thanks for the amazing service and food Drift! This place made my rainy day! I'd been meaning to come here since COVID struck & I finally made it two years later. I got their signature açaí smoothie bowl & it definitely hit all the right spots. LOVE all those textures in my mouth - crunchy, chewy, smoothy! Can't wait to go back & try their warm bowls. And word on the street - they're opening up a poke bowl shop next door - YES PLEASE! Drift Cafe has a much larger menu than you'd expect from a coffee and smoothie spot. We went on a Sunday morning and it was pretty busy. Our group had four adults and two kids. There was something for everyone and we waited for less than 10 minutes for coffees, eggs, and some smoothies. The space is cute, clean and a little boho. There are a few seats and small tables, so during busy times, I'd suggest ordering ahead or to go. The staff is very friendly and handles the crowds with ease. read more

Drift cafe is a great breakfast/brunch spot! Although almost all the yelp photos I saw were of smoothie bowls, they offer breakfast sandwiches and eggs+toasts as well! Plenty of street parking outside. Free metered parking during off season, Nov-April :) We went in for a quick breakfast, ordered a bagel sandwich and a scrambled egg + toast. The food came really fast, and portioned very well. During the warmer weather, I'd definitely grab a breakfast sandwich to go and walk around the area :) its very touristy! The inside of Drift cafe is super cute, plenty of small tables all around but a cute bench and swings near the front of the cafe. It wasn't crowded when we went in on a Tuesday morning, but Im sure during the warmer weather, itll be a popular spot and there would definitely be a line for those swing seatings :) read more

The wait was super long for an açaí bowl, but to me that's a sign of the food being good and fresh bc they have to make it from scratch! I got a latte as well and it was delicious. This will be my go-to in Newport when I want a smoothie bowl or latte different than Starbucks. read more

Amazing!!! I got the sunset bowl and it was one of the best açaí bowls I have ever had. The maple almond butter is incredible. If you love açaí bowls and delicious coffee, this spot is a must!! All of the syrups for the flavored coffee are homemade (vanilla, lavendar, etc.) and so delicious. read more

This place was a perfect walking distance from our hotel on Thames street. It is close to alot of markets and restaurants. I ordered a decaf iced latte with Turkish flavor and oat milk and it was delicious. The robust flavor of the coffee was great. Even my husband's regular brewed coffee was good. My husband ordered the spicy bird scramblet with a side of bagel. It looked so healthy and flavorful. He was very happy. The inside was very cute and trendy. read more

After a morning well spent at the Cliff Walk, we found Drift Cafe, and it was the highlight of our morning coffee runs in Newport. The line was out of the door when we got there and we waited about 20 minutes to get to the register. 20 minutes to drool at all the food and drink that people in front of us were eating or taking out. The 4 girls working the machines and taking orders were very efficient. The cashier recommended the cold brew with oat milk and cookie butter syrup - sold! It was fabulous and not overly sweet. We also had the Buffalo chicken scramblet with a sesame bagel, black bean scramblet and a chicken salad sandwich. Definitely an acai bowl and a chai latte the next time I get a chance to go. Prices were very reasonable and the food was excellent! read more

I think it would be better if you add an egg or some protein, but the bagel was soft on the inside but firm on the outside. The cream cheese was great but not a full coat, which I thought was strange. I like a thin layer of cream cheese but I think it was rushed so I get why it wasn't evenly spread, no worries. I also ordered the seasonal chocolate malt latte and it was delicious. It's like if melted chocolate ice cream were a coffee. The food and drinks are delicious, but this place is way too popular for its own good. It is pretty pricey and a very small place. The decor is great and the workers are helpful. Definitely a little overhyped but I understand why. It was just a little overwhelming for me.

It Hurt So Good:…read more The day hath finally come! I could finally try The Nitro Bar. My husband and I previously saw the line prior to entry, and both realized that while we waited for our lunch reservations we could finagle and get our coffees. The trepidation was tremendous. I couldn't wait to finally try these seasonal beverages; all the hype on social media, I knew that it was gonna be worth it. When we finally got to the register, something overcame me. I couldn't just try one drink and my husband wasn't getting anything that I really wanted to try so I made some excuses about allowing my family members to try whatever I get and I ended up choosing the Cookie Whip latte, the Caramelized Banana Matcha latte, and the Red Velvet latte(original choice would have been the toasted coconut latte, but they ran out of the syrup because it was just too good.) In the refrigerator off to the side we noticed that they had chai puddings, banana pudding and overnight oats; so we thought to ourselves what the heck, let's grab a chocolate cherry chai pudding and a banana pudding. Both were good but the banana was something special. Then we heard my name called and we were able to sample the goods. That first sip of the Banana matcha latte, holy shit, my taste buds were elated. I nearly downed half it before realizing I had my other lattes to try. The Cookie Whip.....the hype is real my friend, it's crack. The sweetness yet not overpowering the coffee. The whip....by the time we rejoined my family while still waiting for lunch, the cookie whip had disappeared. I gave my mother the Red Velvet Whip. She tried it...then she tried the matcha and preferred that. I gave her the rest and tried the Red Velvet myself. It was good, the whip had a nice balance of cream cheese however the clear winners were the matcha and cookie whip (I should have known as I rarely go for the actual cupcake, that's on me). Yet I stilled sucked on that shit til that sound occurred again, air slipping through the straw indicating the last remnants. Mind you I'm a tea girlie....I rarely have coffee and I just downed two lattes and half a matcha. I knew my immediate future would be impacted....the reservation at Wally's Weiner's finally was called and I immediately sat down in a daze. I took a deep breath and knew I needed water. As someone who struggles with vasovagel syncope reactions (google it, it's a ride let me tell ya) I knew I couldn't let it get that far. Let's just say I hydrated and used every bathroom I encountered while in Newport. Wrecked my opportunity to enjoy my mother's birthday dinner at White Horse Tavern and prayed to the gods that I didn't go to panic town. So would I go back? Hell ya. Would I recommend all those drinks? Hell ya. However what I will remind my myself is to pace yourself baby. No need to go ham. I can come back. Thank you Nitro Bar for the intense detox, mommy felt a little bloated today.

So either the large influx of tourist help keep the business alive, or other patrons chalk it up to "well it's Newport and things are expensive". I think in a more competitive market this business would be forced to lower their prices, but hey power to them. $5 for a banana is legit comical and legendary....for what it's worth it was a good banana.

Thanks to their monthly specials, I've become a cold brew lover (instead of iced lattes) and always look forward to seeing what's new. Whether I'm meeting friends for a casual catch-up or a "work" meeting, there's always a perfect spot to settle in, both inside and outside. What makes Custom House even more special is their commitment to the community. I love seeing them partner with local organizations and offer food-sensitive options so more people can enjoy what they do. Their recent giveaway with Friends of Newport Skatepark is another great example of how they continue to give back. Thank you for being such a wonderful community staple. On our first trip we got the iced honey bee and iced matcha. The honey bee was delightful and sweet but not too sweet. While the matcha was probably some of the best matcha I've had. We came back the next day and ordered 3 of the matchas. It is veteran owned and they offer military discount. I'm a little sad there isn't a location close to me because it would easily be my to go coffee shop.

The Grand Island Reserve was a perfect combination of lobster, stone crab claw, mussels, scallops and little necks nestled in an amazing broth. This comes with two sides (of note can't get any of the mac and cheeses with this) and grabbed the tallow fries and charred broccolini both very fresh and delicious. After a hot towel with lemon clean up from the feast turned our eyes to the dessert menu and had to try some of the homemade pie. Glad we had a little room left as both the key lime and coffee pie were amazingly good. The service from start to finish was impeccable! Hostesses provided warm welcome, server was on point with great recommendations all around, table was consistently bussed to even clean the shell bowl a couple times along with various staff and even the chef checking in to see how the meal was progressing. As the season picks up, highly recommend setting a reservation, which was super easy from their website, to ensure your party can enjoy a great night out to enjoy some fresh seafood! The food and drinks are delicious, but this place is way too popular for its own good. It is pretty pricey and a very small place. The decor is great and the workers are helpful. Definitely a little overhyped but I understand why. It was just a little overwhelming for me.

It Hurt So Good:…read more The day hath finally come! I could finally try The Nitro Bar. My husband and I previously saw the line prior to entry, and both realized that while we waited for our lunch reservations we could finagle and get our coffees. The trepidation was tremendous. I couldn't wait to finally try these seasonal beverages; all the hype on social media, I knew that it was gonna be worth it. When we finally got to the register, something overcame me. I couldn't just try one drink and my husband wasn't getting anything that I really wanted to try so I made some excuses about allowing my family members to try whatever I get and I ended up choosing the Cookie Whip latte, the Caramelized Banana Matcha latte, and the Red Velvet latte(original choice would have been the toasted coconut latte, but they ran out of the syrup because it was just too good.) In the refrigerator off to the side we noticed that they had chai puddings, banana pudding and overnight oats; so we thought to ourselves what the heck, let's grab a chocolate cherry chai pudding and a banana pudding. Both were good but the banana was something special. Then we heard my name called and we were able to sample the goods. That first sip of the Banana matcha latte, holy shit, my taste buds were elated. I nearly downed half it before realizing I had my other lattes to try. The Cookie Whip.....the hype is real my friend, it's crack. The sweetness yet not overpowering the coffee. The whip....by the time we rejoined my family while still waiting for lunch, the cookie whip had disappeared. I gave my mother the Red Velvet Whip. She tried it...then she tried the matcha and preferred that. I gave her the rest and tried the Red Velvet myself. It was good, the whip had a nice balance of cream cheese however the clear winners were the matcha and cookie whip (I should have known as I rarely go for the actual cupcake, that's on me). Yet I stilled sucked on that shit til that sound occurred again, air slipping through the straw indicating the last remnants. Mind you I'm a tea girlie....I rarely have coffee and I just downed two lattes and half a matcha. I knew my immediate future would be impacted....the reservation at Wally's Weiner's finally was called and I immediately sat down in a daze. I took a deep breath and knew I needed water. As someone who struggles with vasovagel syncope reactions (google it, it's a ride let me tell ya) I knew I couldn't let it get that far. Let's just say I hydrated and used every bathroom I encountered while in Newport. Wrecked my opportunity to enjoy my mother's birthday dinner at White Horse Tavern and prayed to the gods that I didn't go to panic town. So would I go back? Hell ya. Would I recommend all those drinks? Hell ya. However what I will remind my myself is to pace yourself baby. No need to go ham. I can come back. Thank you Nitro Bar for the intense detox, mommy felt a little bloated today.

During our recent visit to Newport, we stumbled upon a delightful café nestled in the heart of the city. This spot quickly became a highlight of our trip, offering a wonderful array of healthy options, including gluten-free, plant-based, and vegan dishes that cater to a variety of dietary needs. We started our experience with two smoothies: the Turmeric Detox--a vibrant blend of banana, pineapple, turmeric, mango, ginger, and raw honey--and the Berry Good, a refreshing mix of strawberry, banana, raspberry, blueberry, and almond milk. Both were perfectly portioned, and the flavors were spot on, leaving us more than satisfied. For our meal, we tried the Hash It Out, a savory dish featuring sweet potato hash with red onion, roasted red pepper, organic spinach, and two free-range fried eggs. While we initially expected the sweet potatoes to be more finely sliced, the larger chunks of that and the veggies still worked well with the dish, which was cooked to perfection. We also ordered the Southside Scramlet, a tasty combination of scrambled free-range eggs, black beans, pico de gallo, and avocado. The café was kind enough to substitute the cheddar with their house-made dairy free cheese which melted very well and tasted great. Service was good throughout our visit. Though the café can get quite busy, resulting in a bit of a wait at the counter, the staff handled the crowd efficiently. After ordering, we were given a number and you find your own table to sit at. Located in the lower level of a building, the café has a unique setup where you descend from street level into the space. Both the indoor and outdoor seating are below grade. Despite this, the space is bright and nicely designed, making it a pleasant spot to enjoy a meal. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the quality, flavor, and service at this café. My favorite Newport spot! I have sent multiple friends and family members to Drift when they're visiting the area and everyone has raved about their experience and food. awesome gluten free options. I have celiac and the staff was super knowledgeable and careful. Great place to go for those with food allergies- they assured me that they prepare things completely separately from other items.
