Extremely poor management, I am 25 years old and was not allowed to drink since my LEGAL Connecticut license is vertical. The other bars we've been to, no issue (skye bar, ocean city brewery etc). I will give credit to the bartender, he was extremely nice and tried talking to the manager twice before the manager actually came out and gave a bullshit story about how there were a lot of fake ids that are vertical. Wow what nonsense! I've worked in a restaurant before and fake ids can be both horizontal and vertical....not sure why MY license was being targeted....especially when there were only two other customers at the bar? Don't you, as a business, want to actually make money?? Hmmm maybe instead of turning away paying customers with a LEGAL drivers license, they could buy a license scanner because clearly the management has poor judgement. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. BUY A LICENSE SCANNER AND MAYBE YOU'LL ACTUALLY HAVE WELL PAYING CUSTOMERS. THANK YOU FOR WASTING MY TIME. Updated since management answered: My boyfriend is older than me, his license expired before mine and as such is a horizontal license. I received my drivers license when I was 18, on 12/13/11. It doesn't expire until 11/04/18. Why would I pay for a new license to be horizontal when in my state it is accepted and throughout our vacation this was the ONLY establishment to decline a perfectly legal form of identification. After reviewing other Yelp reviews, I am not the only person to have issues with your establishment not accepting vertical licenses. Seriously, your business can't afford a $200 license scanner? Imagine the business you would have if you cut human judgement from the equation. I'm sorry your business can't afford a license scanner, because as stated previously, your outrageous drink prices alone should be able to supplement a $200 license scanner. Also, very immature and zero logic within your response. As stated previously my boyfriend is 29, how his license is horizontal vs mine being vertical makes sense, considering we are NOT the same age. Last time I checked 25 is not 29. But again, thank you for wasting our time! We have enjoyed spending our money at other, reputable establishments. Sorry that 17 year olds with fake ids (both vertical and horizontal) are causing your establishment to turn away legal, well paying customers. First I have to say that the food is worthy of 5 stars but I gave it 4 Stars due to the interaction with Joe at the Bar yup once again we encountered Bar Staff who customer service was undesirable,when we walked up to the Beautiful building we were greeted by a very cheerful hostess ( we arrived 7/10 @ 6:05), I asked if we needed to sit at bar to get Happy Hour special & we were told that Joe at the bar would take care of us! We sat down and waited for a few minutes because bar was unmanned a young man in purple shirt greeted us & my husband asked for a beer comparable to Corona the young man did not know so he asked Joe who curtly answered "nothing"... and walked to other end of bar ...very dismissive, the hubby was ready to go after that but I asked him to hang in so he asked Joe what light beers he had on tap & he said DC Pilsner. I then asked for a recommendation on a cocktail that is sweet and fruity and he pointed to a page in menu & said everything on page is sweet but they don't do fruity drinks. Again the hubby said we should go because at this point we felt like more of a bother than valued customers but the food reviews seemed very good & I was craving Lobster MAC & Cheese. Instead of leaving we moved from bar to booth I did end up getting a Game of Gnomes cocktails. Our server was Kevin (he is from Ireland), he made our stay very enjoyable & knew the menu very well. We ordered the Lobster Mac & cheese and the Carolina Bbq wings both were delicious. The Mac & Cheese pasta was perfectly cooked and very cheesy it was not heaping with Lobster but it was present in the dish. The wings were delicious and were a nice crispy, golden brown. For a entree I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Scallops with Truffle fries and mixed vegetables. Absolutely Delicious, the fries were a little to crispy but the Scallops were obviously the Star we got 4 plump delicious scallops that were cooked to perfection. Kevin continued to check on us throughout our meal to ensure we didn't need anything and promptly removed our clean plates and asked if we would like dessert which we passed on because it was limited selection see the menu in my pics. Disappointing! Food is just okay...AND we had to wait FOREVER to get it. Our waiter kept coming to the table to apologize... giving us several different excuses. Finally we called the person we believed to be the manager over. He again apologized and said he would have our food out in under 5 minutes...he did. He also comped us on our drinks...we did not ask for this (in fact we initially asked just to pay for our drinks so we could leave and find another place to eat.) Not a good experience. Left before ordering! We arrived around 2:00 on a Monday and stood at the hostess station for a few minutes. No one came, so we sat ourselves at the bar. We waited for someone to show up...looking around the restaurant with about 5 tables seated and not a server in sight. Finally a bartender arrived behind the bar. My husband and I were seated directly across from the bartender. She proceeds to make a few drinks right in front of us, never making eye contact despite my best effort to engage her. She finished the drinks and left the bar, not once acknowledging that we were there. No smile, nod, or "I'll be right with you." Soooo we left. My husband and I worked in the restaurant industry for years. Not being greeted promptly is a huge pet peeve...it's like the cardinal rule of hospitality. Maybe she needs more training? Maybe she was having a bad day? I gave it three stars even though we never tried the food or drinks because sometimes people just need the benefit of the doubt. However, management should know about this so they can make sure their servers and bartenders are properly trained to greet customers promptly upon arrival. read more

We had the fried green tomatoes to start, which were really good. I enjoyed the balsamic glaze on them, which was sweet and tangy to combat that fried breading taste when you have more than one. I had the burger special which was a cheeseburger with bacon, apple slices, and mustard-- also good but was more on the side of MW instead of MR, but I know it's hard to get a good temp on a burger. It came with Parmesan garlic fries which were really good. My boyfriend had the osso bucco with scalloped potatoes, which was presented very nicely. The meat was tender and cooked well, but the sauce is very very sweet. If you are more of a charred osso bucco fan, or don't like sweet saucy meats, prob not the dish for you. Osso bucco is usually a nice juicy cut of meat so drowning it in sauce isn't usually necessary for my palate. Potatoes were tasty. read more

We are in OC with friends and wanted to dine out. Dry 851 was able to accommodate for our larger party size by putting us at two tables in a semi private room! Our waitress, Laura, was friendly, informative, and prompt! I ordered the Strawberry Mule, which was surprisingly delicious because I don't alway like Ginger Beer. I also had the Dilly Dilly cocktail which was amazing! We ordered fried pickles and Brussel sprouts as our appetizer. Both were amazing, and probably the best Brussel sprouts I have ever had. For dinner, I got a side salad with blue cheese and the soup of the day (tomato vegetable). The soup was on the spicy side so my husband ate it, but the salad was so good. The blue cheese dressing was creamy and had big chunks of blue cheese! It was a rally fun time, and Laura was so attentive to our large group! Would recommend and go back! read more

Went there for brunch during Air show weekend. We were greeted with smiles right away when we walked in. Then we chose a seat outside. We got an appetizer which was good, sorry forgot what it was. I got the steak and eggs which was amazing. The chimichurri sauce was delicious and super flavorful. The bf got an omelet which he said was good but was on the small side. We each got a mimosa, which was average. The service was great and friendly which is surprising for OC. Came here for a quick bite to eat on a Tuesday afternoon at 1 pm post COVID. 2 servers (one who's first day was that day) and only one cook. We were sat immediately and ordered our drinks. Non-alcoholic came within 5 mins but 2 draft beers never came after 20 minutes of being there nor did they take our order. With approximately 7 tables in dining room and no one having received food we decided to leave. Offered no apologies and having to pay for our 2 root beers. Wasted 30 mins of our day. Could not have been happier with our experience at Dry 85 tonight. Our server Himali went above and beyond to give us excellent service. She checked in with us often without being obtrusive and made great suggestions. The Liquor and Cocktail list here is really worth the trip. My cocktail was the Stacy's Cardamom Has Got It Going On, it was a perfectly balanced drink and not too sweet (sweet cocktails are a sin against liquor). All of the food was excellent, especially the Cheese Grits and the Brunch Burger. If you get the burger, get the stellar French fries with it and ask for the house made sriracha ketchup, it's SO good. Actually every sauce we had was great, even the Shallot Vinaigrette for the House Salad was worth noting. read more

We came in right when the restaurant opened and we were a big bachelorette party. Cory was AMAZING. He was so attentive and he made sure we had full drinks and it was only him working. He suggested drinks to us and they were so delicious. The service was so quick and attentive. He checked in several times and even made sure we were good with our food. We called ahead and were quoted a 35 minute wait time, we were told we had to physically be there to put our name on the list so we headed over. We put our name down for a party of 2 at 730pm, by 830pm we were starving and assumed we had to be close to getting a table. When I went to check with the hostess, there were still SIX tables in front of us! She said she had a few clearing up and then there'd only be three in front of us! What! This place is great some of the best taking food I had in OCMD. I had the chicken and waffles. Very tasty although I wish they gave you more syrup. Food was great! Shared a burger with my boyfriend and it was honestly the best I've had! The only problem was the service. Due to COVID19 customers are scarce. We went for happy hour (3-6pm) and when we arrived the bar tender was no where to be seen. After a few minutes she came by took our drink and appetizer order and then disappeared again. There were 3 couples at the bar spaced out and the rest of the restaurant empty. We asked for tap water 3 times. Every time she came around we jumped to ask her for drinks or re-fills. Until dining here in March my fiancee and I assumed Dry 85 would only really be accessible to us for whiskey, due to our vegan diet. During a recent visit, my mother struck up conversation with the manager and mentioned that we (my fiancee and I) would be visiting soon but would find little to enjoy on their menu. The manager hailed the chef who not only offered to prepare a vegan dish for us but delighted in the challenge of doing so. Our meal was wonderful. The chef prepared a South-East Asian style curry with coconut milk, fresh vegtables, and noodles made from bean sprouts. The dish was lightly sweet with a nice touch of heat and the noodles had a fantastic texture. Other than this specially prepared meal, there was little else on the menu for us to enjoy apart from standard fried appetizers, side vegetables, and salads, all of which could be modified to be prepared vegan. The brussels sprouts were very tasty but a common default option for us in most American gastropub joints. The booze selection is excellent. The handcrafted cocktails were very enjoyable and the whiskey selection offered a variety of styles and price points. The only reasons for giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that the ambiance is not ideal, having more seats and tables and thus people crammed into a smaller space. This made the noise level a bit high and our seating a bit cramped (and this was during an off-season visit). Additionally, while vegan options are available, they require special requests and advanced notification. So, I encourage calling ahead if you are vegan. It is definitely worth a visit though. If you love whisky, beer, friend things and meat, then this is the place for you. If you love good booze but no so much meat and fried things, scout the menu out and call ahead. read more

We came so excited to eat here as we did last year on our family vacation. We had a server with an attitude right away n it definitely felt like because we had kids with us they weren't interested in serving us. I was told they have no milk to offer kids we were refused extra sugar until we used what we had for iced tea. Once the food order was placed she went ghost. Never came back but once to check on us. Then we needed boxes and the bill n we had to wait over 20 mins after boxes n bill was dropped another 10/15 minutes before I had to get up and find someone else to pay the bill. I am a server and I was embarrassed for this restaurant to have such a terrible server who was so unwelcoming and it's sad because it's a decent place n we will NEVER return and are regulars here at OC. Loved our dinner here this week. I visited on a Monday with my mother and daughter. It was an early dinner since we were out my with my 3 month old. To start, the service was really fantastic. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Other wait staff also jumped in to keep service moving when it got busier. We really enjoyed our cocktails. The sazerac was fantastic and only $10. It was really perfect, chilled no ice. Only criticism on their cocktails is that they need better ice for those that do include it. For dinner we had the salmon salad and the Osso bucco (pork) with apple butter. Both were delicious. If I was here longer, I would frequent for both cocktails and dinner. read more

I really wanted to like this place. The ambiance is pretty cool but that's about all this place has going for it. Well that and a pretty awesome selection of bourbon. Overall the food we ordered was very bland. We ordered the Brussel sprouts of the day which was supposed to have some kind of cucumber dressing? I couldn't tell and they were just meh. The bourbon wings were surprisingly tasteless but at least ours were cooked fully unlike some of the reviews on here. I guess that's a plus? The seafood Mac and cheese was just pasta, some cheese, and barely any crab meat or shrimp. I imagine this is the type of food that would be served at an assisted living with how bland everything was. Everyone on here raves about the drinks and it was really the biggest reason we decided to come here. We tried four of their cocktails and none of them were particularly great. Overall everything was too sweet and the taste of alcohol was minimal. Like, one drink supposedly had Hendricks gin, which typically has a pretty distinct flavor, but it was definitely lost in this drink. These are definitely not worthy of being $12 each. 3 stars cause at least our server was nice and we didn't have a long wait for food and drinks. read more

This place has been open for over a year. I wanted to make sure they worked out any kinks and wanted to make sure it survived the first year. I was sadly disappointed in the food. I ordered a Fried Chicken Sandwich and it was two small chicken strips in between a stale bun. I thought they just decided to cut a wedge of lettuce and placed it in between the bun. The chicken lacked flavor for sure. The tomato bisque was so thick that I thought it was marinara because it sure looked and tasted like marinara. The cheese and grits was the best of the dishes we ordered. The only good thing about our meal was the cocktail. The bourbon selection was very large. Kudos for a large selection. They really need to hire a new chef to step up the food to match the tasty bourbons. read more

You should Only go for drinks!! I had a horrible experience! I will not be back! Horrible server, cold fries, not appropriate social distancing, chicken wings were under cooked, seafood Mac and cheese zero flavor with one shrimp. I took two sips of my drink and didn't really enjoy it, I notified my server if she could take it back and remove it from the tab and I'll just take a water. The server comes back saying the manager refused to take the drink off our tab. We asked to speak to the manager, the manager never came to the table. The server returned and said she spoke to the "owner" and the owner agreed. This tells me the server lied and tried to pull one over on us which is completely unacceptable. Social distancing was not appropriate to many people at the bar to the point their behinds were almost touching our table EW! We ordered wine and beer, the chicken wings with pomegranate sauce, the steak and quinoa salad, and the salmon salad. Everything was great. I didn't quite understand the constellation of the salmon salad. I typically always order salmon salad everywhere I go and must say that the different ingredients didn't go well together but I still ate it!
