a noodle person, my husband preferred this dish and devoured it. Pork meat sauce dry noodle with handmade noodles 4/5 - It was a good dish overall. The meat sauce was delicious, like a lu rou fan type of flavor. However, the meat to noodles ratio wasn't great. The handmade noodles were the thick type and while they're well made, I don't think they go well with this dry dish (they prob would be better in the soup dishes). I wish we got the thin noodles instead. Glad we finally tried this place and we'll def be back. If the lu rou fan tastes similar to the meat sauce on the noodles, then I def want to try that next time

service was good, we came in when it was quite empty and within 15 minutes of sitting down, it quickly became a full house. Still, we were given pretty good service and can't complain! The vibes feel very homey and nostalgic. It feels like dining in at a close relative's place. That's also how the food makes you feel. Beef Shank and Tendon Noodle Soup w/ Handmade Noodles - 8.5/10 - Wishing it was a fattier cut of beef, and not a big fan of the tendon, but the broth and handmade noodles blew me away! Very comforting. Shrimp Fried Rice - 9/10 - My girlfriend's favorite. Even after my girlfriend told me she was full, she kept eating more and more. I also loved it. Perfect seasoning and flavor. Pork Chop - 7/10 - Very good flavor. Wish it was a little crispier though. Spicy Wontons - 6/10 - Not my favorite. I think I'll opt out for XLB next time. Steamed Veggies - 7/10 - Super flavorful. I thought it was some Chinese vegetable at first, but it was lettuce! I didn't know you can make it like that. Pickled Cucumber - 9/10 - Simple and good Wood Ear Mushroom Salad - 9.5/10 - Something about this flavor profile was so complex and yummy! Teas - 9/10 - Super comforting with our meals :) Overall, great experience! We'll be back.

My favorite place to get beef noodles in the Bay Area. Super tender and flavorful beef. Love the chewiness of the thick wide noodles. Broth is amazing too. The food comes out pretty fast and service here is nice.

I got the braised beef shank noodle soup and handmade noodles were sooo chewy and yummy but there were only like 5 noodles in there and like 4 pieces of beef shank. The beef shank was pretty tender tho and the broth was flavorful. The popcorn chicken was alright, it was a little bit dry. The chili wontons were also alright, not amazing but not bad. Not sure if I'd be back because the portion size for the price is just not worth it :/

Haven't been here for a while so I decided to come back and see if it has any menu changes. Overall it is still very similar. Their food is still as good. I got another hot noodle soup. Broth is flavorful and delicious. Their pork cutlet is really really good. Service is ok. They are attentive and are willing to help. The restaurant is a big place. It is clean and spacious. Will return.

They serve solid Taiwanese beef noodle soup. I really like their hand made noodles. It's semi thick and has a nice bit to it. This location offers a lot of parking. If you get certain menu items, they offer a small discount on certain appetizers if you pair them together. We also tried the century egg and tofu appetizer since we saw that it was popular, I thought it was just ok but it was mainly the sauce. Sauce just wasn't for me. Definitely would come back and try their other noodles!

Swung by after an apartment viewing on a Saturday afternoon for an early dinner. It was busy around 5pm but after 30 minutes, it was packed! Definitely felt assured after the crowd came through. We ordered the pork chop fried rice, beef combo noodle soup, and the wonton with chili sauce. Everything came out so tasty and savory! The decor inside was also super comforting and clean. Definitely someplace I would come for a comfortable meal. 5/5 dinner! Expected to be a regular moving forward.

I'm a fan ! Duan's is my Asian comfort food ! The dishes are flavorful and give the homey vibes. Like I wanna be eating this bowl of soup on my couch in a blanket. Flavorful rich broth with the perfect pair of braised soft beef with tendon and chewy noodles. Praise the braise ! The mushrooms were delicious !! We had a party of 9 and were seated pretty quickly. Orders were taken quickly, chopsticks and napkins arrived shortly after, and the food right after that. Ordered #1 with handmade noodles. The broth is flavorful with a hint of heat that tickles the back of your throat. The handmade noodles had a fantastic chew to them and were cooked just right. The brisket and tendon were tender and delicious, and the waiters were very kind and efficient. We had a friend from Taiwan with us and he said the food was "legit", so that underscores the positive review! Will definitely come back when we're in town!

3.5 star Good and responsive wait service. But we felt that the speed of food delivery had slowed down. We waited longer for the food to come out, and it was puzzling especially because our orders were their popular items. We haven't been here for awhile. Since the kiddo missed their Century Egg Tofu, we return for a weekend lunch. The Century Egg and Tofu is as good as before but we only regretted that the menu had changed and they no longer offer a combo meal including an appetizer. Nevertheless, we still enjoyed the dish, and kiddo enjoyed her beef noodle stir fry. I tried their traditional flavor combo that came with a bowl of beef soup, a bowl of minced pork over rice and a plate of lettuce with sauce. It's indeed an all-time favorite that can't go wrong with my kiddie taste buds. The beef soup is just a clear broth with a few slices of beef but the meat portions are reasonable and the flavor is good as the Taiwanese cuisine likes to use ginger to wash away the bloody taste of beef. The half meat half tendon beef noodle soup came out the latest and compared to the Flaming Ox Taiwanese Noodle in San Jose, we could immediately tell the difference. I don't particularly enjoy the flavor of the Sichuan pepper, so I don't appreciate their 23 spices recipe. The tendon was cooked nicely but the beef was clearly losing to Flaming Ox as the cut was smaller and the meat much rougher. As usual, this place was packed at lunch hour, so be here before 12 is still a sound advice.

We arrived right at opening for dinner on a Saturday and already saw families flocking in, so it clearly has strong word-of-mouth appeal. The menu is extensive but not overwhelming, and everything we ordered came out surprisingly fast, keeping the energy high even as it got busy. We tried a good variety, including century egg, fried chicken, fried fish cakes, noodles, and rice dishes. I enjoyed all of them, though they leaned on the sweeter side overall, which gave the whole meal a cohesive, indulgent vibe. A Taiwanese person in our party noted that the flavors felt more like "fast food" style Taiwanese eats rather than traditional home cooking, and he found it too sweet for his taste. Still, that perspective added to the fun of sharing different takes on the food. It does get packed quickly, so plan accordingly, but the speedy service means table turnover isn't too long. Plenty of parking in the plaza makes it easy to access, especially for larger groups or families.

Delicious beef noodle soup and fried rice! The broth is super rich and savory, you can tell it's been simmering for a while, and the noodles had that perfect chew. Fried rice came out hot and a little smoky, every bite had egg and veggies, not was not greasy at all! Staff was chill, food came fast, and prices felt fair. Low-key place I'd totally come back to when I'm craving comfort food.

One of my favorite Taiwanese noodle places in South Bay! My favorite is the C5 - noodle soup with beef brisket and flat noodles. Sometimes I go between flat and wide noodles. Came here a couple of times now but on my most recent visit we ordered: - Sichuan Mala Beef Shank Noodle Soup (3/5): spiciness was good but not very flavorful otherwise, could have used more salt - Classic Beef Shank Noodle Soup (3/5): I don't think this place has good beef noodle soup, their broth has an unusually strong Chinese spice flavor that I don't prefer, also slightly bland - Simmered Chicken Noodle Soup with Drumstick (5/5): tbh it's not all THAT special but I personally really love the herbal broth flavor (reminds me of herbal hotpot soup base) and this type of broth suits being more on the bland side The noodles themselves are just ok. I usually LOVE wide hand-pulled noodles but I've tried all the options here and think their thin ones actually have the best texture. If you want good wide hand-pulled noodles you can go across the street to Liang's Village. I would say the best thing about this restaurant is their "combo for 4" meal set that comes with 9 dishes + 4 drinks for $105. FLAVOR (3.5/5): Came here because of the viral video recommending this place but the flavor of the beef noodle soup is just okay! Perhaps I'm spoiled by having the authentic version from Taiwan and other places in the Bay seem to taste better. The soup you can definitely taste it's been simmered for hours. The hand pulled noodles are on the thicker side. The brisket beef noodle soup version is just like hot pot beef. INSTAGRAM WORTHY (4/5): The place has been remodeled and it's pretty nice inside, open seating and spacious to maximize seating. They even use blue and white China bowls to serve the noodles. SERVICE (2/5): Don't expect fast service or much service here at all. Take initiative to flag down the servers if you need anything at all, don't wait for them to approach you. TAKEAWAYS: Mediocre at best, I think it's worth one try but it's not on my go to spots for when I'm craving beef noodle soup. Came here for a small gathering after a friend recommended their catering and it did not disappoint! The place is clean and hygienic, super spacious, and there's convenient parking right out front, which is a big win in Cupertino. Heard about this spot from a Taiwanese friend and finally checked it out for catering with a small group from work. Convenient parking right by the building, huge plus already. Inside is spacious, clean and hygienic, nothing sticky or greasy anywhere, which I really care about for food setups. Duans kitchen is a great place to go in the winter time. Their beef noodle soup is good but their broth wasn't as flavorful as I wanted it. The combo comes with a drink and side of choice. Overall (4/5): Duan Chun Zhen is a place where you can satisfy a very specific Taiwanese beef noodle soup craving. This place is a clean restaurant that brings great consistent beef noodle soup. Ambiance (4/5): The place is clean and the interior decorations are great. It's very bright, but a tad too bright in my opinion. My only real comment on a potential improvement would be around color choice. Everything is a bit monochromatic but that's just me. Service (5/5): A little inconsistent with the check in but they are nice folks. No complaints with service Food (5/5): They do beef noodle soup very well, and everything on the menu is essentially a variation of the beef noodle soup. I've tried a few different soups but they all are almost the same thing with different toppings. I would basically come here exclusively if I'm craving some Taiwanese style beef noodle soup. read more

A hidden gem we found on Yelp while craving a dark, rich, beef noodle soup one night! Hidden behind a closed Mandarin Gourmet building in Cupertino - the parking lot is spacious and the interior is lovely, clean, and modern. Service was spot on - two very friendly servers came to help us throughout our meal, offering helpful suggestions when asked with a happy go lucky and bubbly attitude (which is rare for a Chinese or Taiwanese place!). The beef noodle soup were was spot on! A beautifully rich, savory broth paired with the house thick noodles and veggies. Priced well for about $13-$17 a bowl. Maybe this is a perk unique to me but I've ALWAYS just craved beef noodle soup without the beef itself but everytime I've asked - I've gotten weird looks or offered a veggie broth instead. I usually just end up ordering a standard beef noodle soup and picking out the meat separately- which is such a waste. I was THRILLED they have a no meat but still beef broth option here. The steamed veggies ($6) were a perfect app to get your greens in while not overspending and we also really enjoyed their milk tea ($5, premade, no ice, not too sweet so it complimented the soups well). They also have a matcha or earl gray soft serve ($6) that was decent. The earl gray overpowers the matcha a ton so wouldn't recommend getting the mix but the soft serve itself was fine. I have been ordering food via DoorDash for at least 15+ times and recently, at least 5 times in the past two weeks. I also went here with some other friends and their kids and had a fun time! Everything is done well and great side dishes. For Lunar New Year, there are games and coloring books for the kids. The tomato soup with handmade noodles are so amazing! It is a new recommendation by my friend and is my new go-to. My friend is friends with the owner, Rommie, it turns out. A nice and friendly guy! TLDR: They serve really solid noodles and broth. My favorites are their chili wontons and the tomato egg noodles. (So good I literally come almost every week) You can choose between three kinds of noodles: handmade (thick and chewy), flat (great for a thick or rich broth), and thin noodles (personal favorite, great for absorbing broth flavor). Their beef noodle soup is very nice in any form (original, spicy, with tomato). I've also had their dry noodles with brisket which was also lovely, but mixing them with the sauce from the chili wontons really takes them to the next level. Honestly, you can't go wrong with this place. The chef special stewed beef noodle soup is also a solid choice too. It's the lightest broth they have I think and full of umami. Cost about $100 after taxes and tip for two beef noodles, one rice plate, one dry noodle plate and 3 sides, 3 drinks. Got the tripe beef noodle soup and the amount of noodle and tripe they give was not worth the $25 I spent on it, barely filling but the tripe itself was good. The salted egg yolk over tofu was not worth the extra $8 with the drink but it was worth trying. Drink was okay as it was refreshing compared to the noodle. Golden radish had a sour taste to it and again, was not worth the extra $8 wit he the drink. Service was really bad, no one came to refill our water or give us the tab at all. Since 1948, Duan's Kitchen had been selling homemade Sichuan sauces and braised dishes for a living as a Chinese immigrant in Taiwan. After she passed away, the family opened a noodle store named in memory of their grandma Duan and the aromatic Sichuan dishes she used to make for the family. Duan's Beef Noodle Soup is a bowl of phenomenal flavor that took nearly 18 hours of sophisticated preparation before serving. Start from stir-frying 23 different Sichuan spices and beef tallow to allow the flavors from the crushed peppercorns and other spices blend harmoniously in the simmering pot. I got the beef noodle soup with the wide noodles since it was a chilly day and I wanted something warm. In the past I've gotten the tomato and eggs sauce noodles, which was very tasty and not a bad option for a hot day as the noodles themselves come out cold. Make sure to bring some floss if you get the beef noodle soup, some of the meat gets stuck in my teeth every time. Service does tend to be short so don't expect anyone to wait around for you to order or extra pleasantries. But this isn't surprising given the type of restaurant so it didn't detract from the meal. The check comes to you when you're about done so there is no need to flag anyone down after finishing. I would definitely revisit if I have cash on hand and am in the area. I would recommend this spot to anyone interested in authentic Chinese noodles, hot or cold.

The beef brisket was tender, but the sauce itself was a bit bland overall; it was salty enough but felt a bit boring after a few bites. Adding some of the soy sauce at the table gave some savory sweetness to the dish which I recommend. Sampan Congee - Flavor was really good, and the peanuts were a great add to this given its crispy texture and savory taste. The congee itself was pretty standard and not the most velvety texture I'd prefer, but still pretty decent. Curry fish balls and pork skin - has a kick, decent curry flavor. No complaints as it was pretty good fish balls and pork skin. Service was super fast and friendly. Would recommend if you're craving some congee and rice noodles.

Once you flip that coaster to green, the parade of meat begins. At around $80 per person before tax and tip, you'll absolutely get your money's worth. The ambiance was excellent. Live piano music set the mood without being overpowering, the lighting was just right, and there was never an awkward bottleneck at the salad bar. Everything felt well organized, which made the experience surprisingly relaxed for such a busy restaurant at peak dinnertime. Now for the important part: the food. They started us off with their gold foil-wrapped tableside top sirloin. A little gimmicky? Sure. But it was delicious and made for a great benchmark against the rest of the meats. One thing I really appreciated was the lack of "filler meats." I genuinely enjoyed almost every cut that came around. A few were slightly salty, and a couple leaned a bit tough, but overall the quality was consistently high. Ironically the servers walking with the filler stuff were the friendliest of the staff and never pressured you to get them (grilled cheese, pork sausage, chicken, etc) Over the course of the meal I had filet mignon, several varieties of top and bottom sirloin, beef ribs, lamb chops, multiple picanha preparations, and even shrimp. I counted 16 servings of meat--probably somewhere around 2,000 calories if I had to guess. Surprisingly, my favorite item wasn't even the beef, it was the grilled pineapple. Juicy, perfectly glazed, warm, and just sweet enough to reset your palate between heavier cuts. I went back for seconds without hesitation. Hell at the end of dinner, it made me crave pineapple juice. Do not sleep on this. As for the meats, the beef ribs, spicy picanha, and bottom sirloin were the standouts: incredibly tender, flavorful, and worth saving room for. By the end I was so full that dessert wasn't even a consideration. I don't see myself coming here every month, but it's one of those dining experiences everyone should try at least once. If you're celebrating something or just want to spend two hours eating an unreasonable amount of excellent meat, this is the place to do it. 4/5 for food, rounding up for attentive service and fun experience. Would recommend.

I had a great time at Duan Chun Zhen Noodle House! Parking was super easy, which was a big plus. The place has a nice, cozy vibe with a mix of modern and traditional decor. The staff were friendly and took good care of us. I tried the Tomato Beef Shank & Tendon noodle soup, which was amazing--the broth was rich, and the beef and tendon were tender and delicious. Tried this spot in Cupertino last weekend after a friend wouldn't stop hyping it up, and wow, worth it. Super convenient parking, walked right in. Place is spacious, clean and hygienic, you can actually relax and eat without feeling cramped. Staff was really friendly, kept checking in on us in a nice, chill way. Awesome noodles.
