Was told this was a very good beef noodle soup restaurant. But honestly, it's good but still the best for me was in Taiwan . Noodles were excellent, beef was tender, bak choy was good, unfortunately the soup base didn't rise to the level I expected. Service was okay. If the waitress knew you, she had no problem chatting it up with you while the other customer (12 inches away) got to stare at her back and buttocks while eating. Lastly, after finishing our beef noodle soup our bowls sat there for a good half hour with no waiter or waitress asking if we would want anything else or the bill . Had to get up and ask for the bill before we left. Ambiance is loud and echoing. Hard to hear the person sitting right across from you at times. Duan Chun Zhen Noodles is located where the old Cupertino TOGO's sandwich shop use to be. Sadly, the ambiance of TOGO's was far better. Parking if good but only because the adjacent Mandarin Gourmet Restaurant closed. Honestly, I would have given this 3 Stars but the Beef Noodle Soup was good so they got 4 Stars from me. read more

Had the tomato egg noodle as a I had a craving for comfort food, and their spin on it was unique and flavorful. It came with a fried egg, which was fluffy yet crispy and paired really well with the tomato soup! Hit the spot for sure. This is always a spot I forget but every time I come it's so good and comforting. Husband had the pork chop fried rice and said it was delicious. I've been here twice now and it hasn't disappointed! Pictured: D1 and D8 I'm always on the hunt for good beef noodle soup on par with Taiwan's and this is one of the best places I've found. I love the aromatic stock (you can really taste the spices) and the texture of the handpulled noodles are great - very chewy. Also approved by the Taiwanese parents who don't like things overly heavy or salty. I like the twist on the beef noodle soup with the Sichuan spices (since this was founded by a Chinese immigrant in Taiwan). I personally liked the Tomato Beef Noodle Soup more than the normal Beef Noodle since the sweetness from the tomatoes really adds to the flavor! One thing that I think could be better is the softness of the tendon - it could be cooked a little longer so it is easier to chew but still delicious. read more

My partner and I were quickly seated on a Saturday afternoon, and I thought the inside was super modern and had nice lighting! The Pork Chop Fried Rice was a decent portion to share between the two of us, and we had a bit of leftover after our meal. The pork chop was juicy and had an addiction crunch to it! Came here on for Saturday lunch because we were craving Taiwanese food and it hit the spot. Staff were extremely friendly and attentive, and we were seated immediately. There was a set menu for two people that came with ~3 entrees and some appetizers but we weren't a fan of the rice options and substitutions were not possible (we asked). We decided to order a beef noodle soup instead and their pork cutlet. The beef noodle soup had a rich broth to it but it didn't come with as many noodles as I had expected. Decided to pop into Duan's Kitchen for the first time since I was craving something warm and hearty. It looks unassuming from the outside but I was wowed when I walked in. I ordered the G8 combo - minced pork rice with the pork chop and four seasons green tea. The pork chop fried rice is now $16 (up from $13) and the braised minced pork rice is $9 (up from $8). The pork chop fried rice is still one of my favorites. Din tai fung has a similar one, but if you don't want to wait in long lines, this is the spot to go. Also, pairs well to share with someone getting noodles. Each individual piece of rice in the fried rice is nice and separately - I'm not able to achieve that level of fried rice perfection at home! Saw there is a new beef noodle soup in my neighborhood so had to give it a try! They have been open for a while now so the line isn't crazy which I like! The server is friendly, though sometimes could be a challenge to get their attention when things are busy. I got their normal shank/tendon noodles and also the garlic/mala noodles so far. I prefer thin noodles so I chose that both times. I would say the broth is good, it has body but not overly fatty/rich. The meat is tender enough (but I have had better). Noodle texture is nice, I know the thick hand-pulled noodles is their speciality but I appreciate them offering the thin noodles too. The garlic/mala flavor is not that spicy, I wouldn't call that mala, maybe "mildly spicy" is more appropriate. I will try their real mala flavor next time and see how that one is! Overall a pleasant experience, my tummy was happy and had some leftover too! The restaurant is frequented by small groups and families, so sometimes can get a little loud, but that doesn't detract from its delicious flavors. read more

My kid loves noodles and chicken so yeah lol. My other kid is just a baby so they will be enjoying the food later. Ambiance wise the place is very spacious and clean. I am peeved there's no changing table and honestly restaurants like these nowadays are not really kid or baby friendly. This place was not really one of them since I had to lift up my 30 lbs year old to wash hands. Step stool would have been nice. The service was just okay. It's like surprising for the staff to see me bottle feed my baby...I can't imagine if I was nursing with a cover over. Let's talk about the food. Honestly, I've had better Taiwanese beef noodles soups. The house made noodles didn't taste that fresh to me or house made for that matter. The broth was just average to me. My husband agreed. The beef portions were average for the high price you pay. Don't even get me started on the pork chop over rice. You can refer to my photo. It's like they ran out of meat right at opening their restaurant or something. It was thinly cut pork too so yeah... not filling for that dish and not worth the price. The place is tucked in the back corner of a plaza that could make it hard to find. Found it last minute as we were just in the area and didn't know what to eat. Came on a Saturday evening and by 6pm the place was already packed and there was a waitlist. I would say that the food here is pretty decent for the beef noodles and other things. They have a special for 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, and 2 drinks I believe for $55 which was pretty good. The service was excellent. They were fast attentive and overall pretty nice. I'm updating my review because I actually really enjoyed the noodle especially the mixed beef spicy noodles with hand-pulled noodles. I think the soup is extremely flavorful and I love the noodles. It's not a lot of noodles so if you are hungry you may need to order extra noodles. Occasionally they run out of hand-pulled noodles which is a bummer but the other noodles are not bad either. So why not the 5 stars? It's because I really don't like how they hawk over you when you pay and that the default choices for tips is ridiculously high at 20% post tax. Even the other choices of 18% and 25% are ridiculous. Tip should be pre tax and probably 10%-15% for this kind of eatery. Don't even use inflation as example as tip is % based so not subject to inflation. Here is my previous review: I think the actual rating I'd give is 3.5 as it's alright but nothing special enough for me because it could be better. Although the restaurant came from Taiwan, the food is originally from Sichuan because the person who started it was from Sichuan who migrated to Taiwan. On the wall, there is an inscription detailing the history of the place, which I thought is pretty cool. The food of course is extremely Taiwanized as it's not very spicy like what I'd get in a proper Sichuan place and the 13 spices (the signature flavor) is definitely missing half of what I'd normally associate with 13 spices. The noodle is alright but can be more chewy. The soup base is also alright but lack the authenticity. However, we must realize that Sichuan food in Taiwan really is so-so and my guess is that either Taiwan lacked the proper peppers or that the local people just can't take authentic Sichuan food. Therefore, I'd recommend that you go in with the expectation that it's Taiwanese noodle rather than Sichuan noodles. The reason why I chose to give it 3 stars instead of 4 is that they mess up simple dishes such as mixed tofu with thousand year eggs. It's such as a classic dish and there is absolutely no reason to mess it up with those drizzles. Service is good enough and courteous. The place is bright and clean. If you read my reviews you know I put a bigger emphasis on food than other non-essential stuff such as service or atmosphere, so I chose to give it 3 stars instead of 4.
