If you are ever in this area, it's an absolute must that you come to this bakery! I have been coming here since I was a little kid just not as frequently as I would like to since it's quite far from where I live. I came this past Sunday, it was a little busy inside, but plenty of parking and barely await to check out at the register. It's really cute inside, lots of little things you can purchase and some tables and chairs so you can sit and eat while you're there. The ladies working were so friendly, and answered all my questions about the sweet treats. I purchased a cinnamon roll, cinnamon raisin bread loaf, and a blueberry scone. All were delicious! The only thing I managed to get a picture of before consuming was the cinnamon roll lol so I have uploaded that picture. I absolutely love cinnamon rolls, and it was super delicious, I loved it and was able to stretch it out for three servings. My friend got a double chocolate cookie and some strawberry rhubarb jam. So glad my friend introduced me to Dudley's! The service was great! We stopped in on our way home from Julian, and I got a brownie, and chocolate croissant, and vanilla cake with cherries. This large bakery has a lot of indoor seating. They also have a large selection of bread, pastries, and drinks. I couldn't decide between the Avocado Toast and Veggie Sandwich with salami so I ordered both. The avocado toast came with a thick piece of bread and a lot of fresh avocado, olives, feta cheese, and balsamic. I enjoyed it. I took the sandwich home to enjoy later. I enjoyed that too. It's been a few years since I have ventured to Dudley's Bakery. I had company in town, and we stopped on the way home after visiting Julian. I cannot tell you the disappointment I had in the quality of the products I purchased. The Vanilla Cake with Cherry had what looked like a thin, sprayed layer of something cherry flavored below the crumb top. And I could not taste any hint of vanilla. The Jalapeno Cheddar Bread had only speckles of cheese and jalapeno throughout and was not very tasty. For what they charged I expected better quality like what they delivered in the past. On our trip to Julians, reddit and tiktok told us to stop by Dudleys. Dudley had so much baked goods and yummy pastries! We bought some bread, some pastries, a fruit tart, and a couple of sandwhiches! I got the breakfast sandwhich. Yum ate that right up. There is pletny of indoor seating as well as outdoor. There is also a small shopping area you can walk through. Since we went around the holiday season they were selling a lot of knick knacks that would make great presents like ornaments or trinkets for stocking stuffers. The food was really impressionable so I recommend this as a stop for anyone who wants to grab a bite before hitting julian (its also less croweded... long lines but guaranteed not as long as if you eat inside julian) read more

Visited 5/17/2024 Hi Guys Just want to let you all know that I finally decided to re visit Dudley's Bakery in Santa Ysabel a little ways out of Ramona heading up to Julian. They fresh Bake some excellent Breads and Pastries. Always nice to pick up a loaf or two fresh and soft straight from the ovens. They have a great Deli with fresh made to order Sandwiches on Bread baked that same day. I ordered The Classic Club on Sourdough. It's loaded with Turkey, Ham, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Avocado and Mayo on Dudley's Fresh Baked Sourdough. It was Amazing. It's now my go to sandwich deli. The sandwiches are triple deckers loaded with flavor and large enough for two to share. I'm looking forward to trying more of the small menu including The Soup of The Day. Overpriced garbage. Not your cozy little bakery any more. They went corporate and it sucks. If I knew how much my daughter paid for a microwaved bacon egg and cheese I would have thrown it back in their face. Poor cooks and stupid people microwave eggs. That's criminal and Dudleys corporate is a thief. If i wanted crap i would have gone to a convenience food mart. Charging your greedy prices for microwaved food is robbery. The place looks like the set from a Hallmark movie and smells like freshly baked bread. What else is there to say? It's got basic coffees and fun lattes (the raspberry one was a big hit!) and teas and pastries and soups and sandwiches and an entire bakery of goods to choose from! What's not to love? Honestly it's one of those spots I almost don't want to review because I don't want people to get there before me and buy up all the rosemary olive oil bread! Both my husband and I have been going to Dudley's since the 70's. One of our favorite stops when we go to East San Diego County. Today (Thursday) we stopped in around 9:00 am and were so disappointed. A first for us! They hardly had any bread. My husband found his favorite in the day old bread. We usually buy three or four different loaves but not today. Since one of the new owners had owned a pasty shop, I had hoped for wonderful pasty but nope. Not much of a selection and no cream or custard filled which I had always loved getting as a kid. We're thinking maybe it's because it's a week day and we've usually gone on weekends. Been here a few times and i must say I love their coffees, they have a nice selection of baked goods, sweets & breads and some discounted but have to get there early to get any. On the weekends it gets crowded as everyone is out driving through to Julian or towards Borrego Springs, it's midway and a favorite pit stop. What I like is that it's the only place nearby we can actually go and do freshly prepared sandwiches and either eat there, park somewhere and enjoy the fresh air and views or eat at home as there are no restaurants near us (Farmhouse 78 is right there but always crowded on weekends, though looks good based on popularity). So it's kinda our only takeout choice that's fresh and delicious. They also have gifts and cute country decor. A popular place among locals and do yourself a favor, don't wear an LA baseball team shirt (hint hint) as they recently played the Padres short of this review and it is SD Padres territory. Chose the club triple decker with avocado and ham And turkey and bacon on their fresh sourdough bread for a sandwich to share. It was almost five star but the avocado and lettuce was very skimpy. The meat was ample but needed more veggies to even it out. Took quite awhile for my hungry self to wait but that's okay. Probably closer to 15 minutes. Clean and crowded with a steady stream Of customers buying bread and lunch. Happy place with happy people enjoying their outing away from City life. Like many others have said Dudleys is a great spot to stop on the way up to Julian . Kind of stumbled upon it as it was early when we arrived into town and it was one of the only places that was open . We were on the hunt for some good breakfast pastries and this place did not disappoint. They had a great selection of breads and fresh baked pastries, and they also had good coffee and espresso's. I honestly came back here three days in a row in the morning, just because their breakfast items were delicious my bad for not taking pictures of every mornings treats . The girls working there were friendly and helpful and the reason for the negative one star is that the guy making my latte made it wrong and when I tasted it, I told him I think he made a mistake with this and when I asked him to remake it the way I wanted it he rolled his eyes when, in all honesty it was his mistake. Julian offers mini bakery choices in and around town so options are plenty but I felt like this location had something different from the others and it is definitely worth checking out. We've visited Dudley's Bakery or bought bread in stores for decades. My husband recently stopped by and got 3 different loaves for us to share and enjoy. I'm so disappointed! The bread is sliced thinner and is much less dense/has more air bubbles. It has lost its' deliciousness, chew, gets over-toasted much too fast, and doesn't support a grilled cheese as before. Why did they change the recipe?? We will not be buying loaves anytime soon. read more

Please consider contracting an off site baker who would individually package two slices of gluten free tapioca/rice based bread (not corn!) that you could freeze to accomodate customers who need that option. That way more families could stop in to enjoy old favorites while the 'gf' family member would not be left out or demand a different stop where they can find something gf to eat. read more

Living in Oside and currently working up in Julian I find the munchies creeping up on me as I head down the mountain. I've tried a handful of spots, most not bad. Then, I remembered my childhood and the annual trips with my Mom, aunts, uncle and cousins, we would take in the Fall...the height of the apple season in this idyllic, mountain town. With those memories beginning to flow, I recalled how on every single trip, we stopped at Dudley's...usually to grab a loaf of bread or an apple pie. It was a "must do" for my Mom. So here I was, pulling up to that same building, but this time I'm trying out their food menu. It is a simple menu: sandwiches, salads and a coffee bar. I've tried 4 different sandwiches and none have disappointed! The Italian (classic meats), grilled cheese (solid), but I recommend the one that has added chipotle sauce on it. Homemade I might add! A bit spicy but if my kids can handle it, so can you! Which leads me to my current fav...the Bajapotle. Homemade chipotle sauce all smothered up on it, turkey, greens, avo, pepper jack and a toasted bun that makes it crunch. Good Stuff! They have every kind of baked goods: Coffee cakes, fresh baked cookies (manhole size), cinnamon rolls (mini) and so much more! Coffee bar seems to be the most popular but I'm not a coffee guy so read some other review! They do have some cool, unique gifts to select from. My sister is really into the style they present, so for her recent BDAY I got her a flower press. Not my gig but totally hers! With Easter around the corner I got my youngest girl a stuffed bunny. As a LONG TIME customer of Dudley's this review pains me to leave. This has been a family MUST STOP over all my (30) years. We make about a half a dozen trips up this way every year. Always making them a stop either on the way up or on the way back. Grabbing some snacks for the road and always for when we got to where we were going. This time we popped our head in a little later in the afternoon then we usually do, knowing that when its later in the day we may experience what we are looking for cold possibly be sold out. When I was unable to find the one and only thing that I wanted I decided to ask a young lady that worked there. I asked (the sweet young ladies bagging the bread)" I'm sorry to bother you, i know it's a little late in the day but are you all sold out of your pull apart bread?" The young lady replied back to me that they have discontinued it! WHAT!!!! One of the best things they are know for!!!! She saw my shock and when I inquired more as to why she said she simply didn't know why they didn't make it any more but that I might want to try one of their coffee cakes. I am heart broken to say the least. I cant make my yummy French Toast with coffee cake, I use the pull apart bread. :(. Look like I have no need to stop here any longer, an will have to change our road tips to head towards Schat's bakery more often read more

This bakery has been serving the community for over 50 years and their service is great! With the new updated decor- Barnyard Chic, I adore the ambiance the space gives. In addition they also offer great gifts for those who love kitchen gadgets and decor. We stopped here to have sandwiches and coffee before visiting the small town of Julian. We sat by the bench, which was nice, and the kid was happy with it. The ladies who took our order and made our coffee were friendly, which added a nice touch to the place.
