No Julian trip is complete without a stop at Dudley's to buy a loaf of their delicious bread (or two!). This most recent trip we decided to eat lunch in Santa Ysabel rather than dealing with the crowds in Julian, and let me tell you - I'm still thinking about the Bajapotle sandwich I had! Dudley's is always popping but you can always find a parking spot and the line moves quickly. There are some dining tables (though not many), but we were able to get a table. There's seating by a fireplace as well, which gives a cozy feel to an otherwise industrial feeling space. If the kitchen gets backed up, it can take up to 30 minutes for your order but it's delicious. read more

As a LONG TIME customer of Dudley's this review pains me to leave. This has been a family MUST STOP over all my (30) years. We make about a half a dozen trips up this way every year. Always making them a stop either on the way up or on the way back. Grabbing some snacks for the road and always for when we got to where we were going. This time we popped our head in a little later in the afternoon then we usually do, knowing that when its later in the day we may experience what we are looking for cold possibly be sold out. When I was unable to find the one and only thing that I wanted I decided to ask a young lady that worked there. I asked (the sweet young ladies bagging the bread)" I'm sorry to bother you, i know it's a little late in the day but are you all sold out of your pull apart bread?" The young lady replied back to me that they have discontinued it! WHAT!!!! One of the best things they are know for!!!! She saw my shock and when I inquired more as to why she said she simply didn't know why they didn't make it any more but that I might want to try one of their coffee cakes. I am heart broken to say the least. I cant make my yummy French Toast with coffee cake, I use the pull apart bread. :(. A MUST STOP ON YOUR WAY TO JULIAN! We have been coming to Dudley's for YEARS!!!! We love the fresh bread they sell specially the jalapeño bread. This bakery has been serving the community for over 50 years and their service is great! With the new updated decor- Barnyard Chic, I adore the ambiance the space gives. In addition they also offer great gifts for those who love kitchen gadgets and decor. We stopped here to have sandwiches and coffee before visiting the small town of Julian. There's plenty of parking outside and the distinct building is hard to miss. After driving up the mountain this is the best stop to get a bite to eat!!! read more

We ordered the classic club, kid's grilled cheese, and London Fog. The food was delicious, and so was the drink. When we came by around 3 p.m. on a weekend, there were plenty of seats available. We sat by the bench, which was nice, and the kid was happy with it. The ladies who took our order and made our coffee were friendly, which added a nice touch to the place. The restaurant has its own little decoration goods section, and you'll need a passcode to access their restroom. Overall, it's a good place to stop by for bakery items and coffee. read more

DELICIOUS! The food was so good, from the avocado toast, to the club sandwich, to the assortment of pastries we got. They were very busy but the line moved faster than we expected. They also have the line surrounded by baked goods that you can purchase. There is a little store. As of now it's mostly Christmas decor and ornaments because we're in November. The inside can get a tiny bit loud but there's seating on the patio and even picnic tables in a field outside. read more

One of the best places to have your car break down and spend an afternoon! Came for lunch (Baja turkey and beef dip) and it was excellent - large portions, fresh bread baked in-house, quality ingredients. The espresso was fantastic too. The absolute highlights were the service (Gracie, in particular, was so friendly and welcoming), the cookies (no idea how they make them this chewy and perfect), and the little home decor shop at the front of the bakery. You can easily spend 30 minutes looking at the handmade items and the prices are very reasonable when you do decide on a couple. I don't wish you a break down, but if it happens, this is place to spend it! read more

With so many bakeries in Julian area, Dudley's is a solid option to check out. Can get very busy on weekends but service is great. My family loves their raisin bread. We got the garlic sourdough. Please consider contracting an off site baker who would individually package two slices of gluten free tapioca/rice based bread (not corn!) that you could freeze to accomodate customers who need that option. That way more families could stop in to enjoy old favorites while the 'gf' family member would not be left out or demand a different stop where they can find something gf to eat. read more

I ordered a Bacon egg and cheese sandwich from Dudley's which was $10.95. The picture on the right is what I got and I was underwhelmed and disappointed at how low quality and sparse the sandwich was -- it was it was on a burger bun. The bacon was so tough. I could barely bite through it and it's only one egg - for the price i was shocked that I got so littl. The other two pictures you see are a California thick breakfast sandwich bagel that I can get in Orange County CA-- at 602 Coffee and Acai - - for $11 - - just five cents more than the limp sandwich I got from Dudley's... :-( Notice the 602 coffee sandwich includes two fluffy eggs, substantial crisp but not overdone meat and avocado on a really nice bagel. I feel like Dudleys could do way better, higher quality, include more for the price, especially considering that they are one of very few businesses available for people to stop and eat in that area. read more

I was craving for PIE, and not just any Pie. It has to be from DUDLEY'S BAKERY . I eat Pies from around my area, but maybe half a slice only, but the only PIE that I can really Finish a whole Box of PIE in one day is PIE from DUDLEY'S! When we arrived at Dudley's, I was so excited 'coz I saw a lot of Pies on their tables! We also saw lots of Fresh Bread, but I was more focused on looking for my favorite Pie, the APPLE PEACH PIE!!! Incredible atmosphere, but not only that. The pastries and coffee are truly delicious! I am a sweet person in all aspects so need to eat accordingly:) Loved everything I tried there and what I took home. The Danish were amazing, the filling was super delicious. I have not visited this area for more than a decade and I was with some visitors from Colombia. They unanimously adored the bakery, the gift shop and that the pastries were not overly sweet. We stopped by on the way back from Julian. They never disappoint on pies and bread. We picked up a Cheddar/ Jalapeño loaf of bread, and a walnut/apple/caramel pie. This is the best pie I've had. You pay a little more than some places, but we haven't had a bad experience. read more

Awesome little spot. Drinks are on point, the interior is all vibes and the outside view lets you know you're in the country. Youve made it out the city! The lavender matcha is amazing. The mocha uses this DEEP chocolate kind of flavor, its amazing. The walnut muffin is that buttery kind of soft-type. Customer service and speed were quite nice! Wow!! We've been coming here for years. They recently renovated and I'm totally impressed. Looks like Johanna Gaines came in and decorated the place. It's very nice and cozy. The bread has been the same since the beginning of time and I love that that has not changed throughout the years. Bathrooms need a code to enter the door. The code is found on the receipt. Service has always been friendly. The line can get a little long because there are only two registers (maybe three?). Only one was open when we were there. Favorites: Date nut, jalapeno, fruit bars. Their pastries also deserve a shout out. Wish they had a sample box with all of them ready to buy. That's a great idea, hope they run with it. :) Parking is never an issue here as people are always coming and going. There is a Tesla charging station nearby which is a bonus. read more

Oh Dudley's bakery, nestled in the foot hills of Julian and cuyamaca mountain. This little bakery serves up freshly baked pastries daily, sandwiches and coffees. We stopped by the other day on the way up to fort cross, which I highly recommend if you have children. I decided to get something for my sweet tooth on the way back to town and picked up a pastry that was so delicious I might just drive back from Chula Vista just for the pastry alone! It was a strawberry and cheese pastry from one of the tables. Arrived a little late so a lot of the items in the case were gone which I was really bummed about. I'm definitely going to try more items when I come back. I love the ambiance as well, it's very country style and the scenery around is beautiful as well. read more

Very popular, especially after 11am on a Sunday. Great deal for buy 4 loaves, get one free. Easy to miss the small sign. Prices are $6.50 (jalpeno round, sourdough loaf, garlic sourdough loaf) while most others are $7.50 (apple nut, raisin, cinnamon, jalapeno cheddar, asiago with olives, Hawaiian bread). Had a great breakfast sandwich--bacon really makes it tasty but I would not recommend the grilled cheese--just some white sourdough on a panini press with cheddar. Also would not recommend Italian sandwich--bread is to dense and needs some Italian dressing too. Ordered a bunch of other pastries--blueberry cheese tart (that's not the exact name but close) was a winner, along with the chocolate chip cookie, and croissant. Cinnamon roll and blueberry scone were fine but nothing special. Service was friendly; nice lady let me go back to the bakery windows to help me decide what to order. The place is adorable with eating tables, baked goods for display, and house items for sale. Fun to decide what pastries to order! WOW. The breads for the sandwiches were absolutely extraordinary (it is a bakery after all ). Each sandwich bread was pressed on a panini machine, making it perfectly crispy all throughout. We ordered the tuna melt (pictured), grilled cheese, and the Bajapotle. The Bajapotle was definitely a highlight -- spicy with a delicious, flavorful sauce that really stood out. Paid by card Dudley's is located in it's own little plaza and offers a lot of plaza parking around. It's across from Julian Pie Company so if you want more dessert, you can walk right over. I went here on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed so it took a while to get to the cashier. Luckily on the way you could shop for breads and desserts. I ended up getting an iced dirty Chai, raspberry pistachio muffin, cheesecake, raspberry almond cookies, and chocolate muffin. The raspberry pistachio muffin and cheesecake were the best but I didn't care for the raspberry almond cookies much. Decent place but nothing really "WOW"-ed me. I had a little trouble ordering because I had to repeat myself to the cashier over 5 times, so it took forever to pay! She couldn't remember what I wanted from the case so it was frustrating. She should've written the items down if she couldn't remember. Overall this place was a cute spot and I would probably go back if I were in the area. read more

Stopped by Dudleys for sandwiches to eat during our hike. We got the club sandwich and tuna sandwich which were really good. Our friends got the tuna melt. The club sandwich was huge and loaded with so much protein. Really great cross section as you can see from the picture. Good amount of mayo and avocados as well. The tuna sandwich was pretty dry, so go for the tuna melt if you can as that one has cheddar which makes it tastier. They also have pastries and breads which I would like to try next time I come back. Service was ok, had to wait a few mins for everyone in our party to get their order but we didn't mind because the place was really nice and cozy with plenty of seating. Great food - we split their Club Sandwich which was huge & delicious. They have great baked goods as well so they are super busy in Oct & Nov. They have a pretty spacious indoor dining area & some small tables outside. There is a grassy area with larger picnic tables, some shade, & dog friendly by the east parking lot. Delicious fresh baked Breeeeaaad! We bought a loaf of each: rosemary (Vegan-yah!) olive oil, Irish potato, and garlic sourdough. All crusty exterior and soft moist inside. Wonderful! The pastries looked good too, sadly none vegan so I passed but they have some seasonal pumpkin and apple ones that look good & vegetarian friendly. Nice assortment of packaged cookies for tea or sweet snacking as well as a big cupboard full of beautiful fruit jams (a bit pricey at $10 each), but they look delicious. Always a treat! read more

Can't beat this bakery for their fresh bread and variety. Been stopping here for many years. Dudley's is a local treasure. We love to make a picnic centered around their date but or apple nut bread (so soft & fresh!) which make delicious almond butter sandwiches. There's a nature center nearby with outside tables & the Inaja lookout just up the hill would be good places for a picnic. read more
