Stirred fried rice cake. Overcooked rice cakes with zero flavor. Needed some salt

Wow what a disappointing experience. Thought we'd give this location a try because we loved the Ellicott city location. This location is not up to par. Dumpling district is inside the kung fu tea, and you order at a kiosk on the left when you walk in. First and foremost. The soup dumplings were disappointing. As the Ellicott city location has some of our favorite soup dumplings, the ones here were just not good. We got mala and soup dumplings. The mala had ZERO mala flavor. No spice, no peppercorn flavor. At least half of the dumplings were broken (some soup leaked out), though most still at least had a little soup inside, but the soup was just too sweet. The pork soup dumplings had a thicker skin than the mala. None were broken, and the soup was, again, too sweet. The soup for both were also just lukewarm - we are in the store immediately after it came out, so no it wasn't because we took it home to eat. We got the fu qi fei pian (spicy beef tendon and tripe slices) which we loved the spicy flavor and the portion size in the Ellicott City location. Here, the tendon & tripe were very tender and slightly tangy, but again the theme today seems to be not spicy & too sweet. It was just the slightest bit spicy, without much numbing peppercorn flavor/spice. Also the portion size was TINY for $16. Not worth it at all. The stir fried rice cake may have been the most disappointing. It looked brown and flavorful, but wow was it the most plain and flavorless thing we ate. It seemed like they forgot to season. It wasn't even sweet, and there was 0 salt and despite it looking brown from soy sauce there wasn't any salt/soy sauce flavor. The rice cakes themselves were also way overcooked to the point of being mushy instead of chewy. Husbby and I can and have made better rice cakes at home than this. We don't think they make their soup dumplings in house - our theory is that the Ellicott city location makes soup dumplings (you can literally watch them make them) and they must get it frozen / shipped to this location, but I just can't understand why the flavor is overly sweet and not even spicy. The complete opposite of what we remember the Ellicott city location had. Mala was some of our favorite with the numbing mala flavor. We will have to try the Ellicott city location again to see if overall quality has gone down, but for sure we will not come back to this Laurel location. We were full but so disappointed and unsatisfied. We wanted some hearty hot soup dumplings, but we just got lukewarm overly sweet/ flavorless food.

Everything is packaged to go so can take home if you don't finish eating there. Don't forget to carefully bite a little bit into the soup dumplings first so the soup inside doesn't squirt out all over you. Good to remember if it's your first time trying soup dumplings. We tried the highly reviewed rainbow soup dumplings, and I have to say I haven't had good soup dumplings since Bangkok, but these come very close. I really enjoyed getting to taste all six flavors. My favorite was the pork and truffle one. Delicious! The dipping sauce was good, too. I also ordered pork chops and fried dough in addition to a couple more rainbow dumplings to go! Definitely going back.

Nan Xiang was so successful they opened a giant new spot across the street from their original location a few years ago. I was very surprised to see a branch of Nan Xiang here in the burbs of MD but hopeful we'd get the same experience. First off, it's not a sit down fill service restaurant which is fine. Order at the kiosk and get your food in to-go containers...quickly and efficiently. As for the food, it was a bit disappointing especially compared to the experience at the Flushing flagship. It's not bad...but just different. The rice cakes with pork were probably the best of what we had but on the oily side. The Pork Chops over rice had a soy sauce based seasoning and no real breading and no sour mustard greens which usually comes with this dish at other restaurants. The Beef Noodle Soup was just mediocre as well. Lastly the Scallion Pancakes are a bit on the fluffy/floury side so just different as well. Overall I'd give them a try if you've never had this type of Chinese food...just know that there is a better version of this place in Flushing if you are ever visiting the city.

Asian Court Restaurant is within walking distance of a supermarket and other shops, which is conducive to one-stop shopping. We had a 7:00 PM reservation for seven -- planned largely around my son's birthday request and his love of Dim Sum. Unfortunately, Dim Sum isn't available on Tuesday nights, which was a minor disappointment since our previous Sunday visit gave us the full Dim Sum experience. We shifted to ordering family-style and were genuinely pleased with the meal. The Moo Shu Pork, Peking Duck, Chicken Fried Rice, Mápó Dòufu, and Bok Choy were all flavorful and well-prepared. Everything came with won ton soup and tea, which was a nice touch and added to the overall experience. The atmosphere feels authentic and comfortable, and the staff was friendly throughout the evening. The manager tried to steer us toward several suggested dishes -- it was a bit unclear whether this was purely helpful guidance or an effort to highlight readily available items -- but we appreciated the input and did enjoy the bok choy recommendation. Pricing was reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, despite the Dim Sum surprise, it was an enjoyable and satisfying dinner. We would absolutely return -- just on a weekend next time for Dim Sum.

This is primarily due to the owner / chef retiring. This restaurant is a wonderful place for dim sum on weekends. However, they do serve dim sum (without the carts) everyday so if you want your dim sum fix on during the weekday, this place is the way to go. Their shrimp and pork dumplings are delicious. Their shrimp crepe, chicken feet, fried taro dumpling, rice wrapped w/ leaves are also really good. Be sure to ask for hot oil on the side so you can spice out your dishes if you want. It's sad to see this restaurant go. They are really a wonderful local business that has been around for over 10 years. The staff here are always friendly and their dishes never disappoint. If you are in the area before they close on 1/1/25, be sure to support your local Gourmet Inspiration. Great family owned restaurant that never disappoints. It was good once you added soy sauce and a little hot sauce or spices. there were other items that came out for dim sun I would've liked to try but they came much later in our meal and we were done. We also ordered Vietnamese eggrolls that were flavorful and the string beans with tofu. The prices are very reasonable the staff were very nice. The place became crowded by the time we left And I have to say it was clean that is a big plus.

I ordered the Singapore noodles, which were packed with flavor and loaded with beef, chicken, and shrimp. The portion was so big that it honestly could be split between two people. I barely put a dent in it while I was there and ended up taking most of it home and eating off it for a while afterward. But the real showstopper is the bottomless drinks. For $18, you get bottomless Mai Tais, lemon drops, and mimosas, and the best part is they do it all day, not just during brunch hours. You can pull up at 7 p.m., get dinner, and still do bottomless drinks, which is something you don't see very often. Between the massive portions, the flavor, and the all-day bottomless option, Han Palace is an easy five out of five for me. If you're in DC and haven't been here yet, this is a must-go spot.
