    Seafood over fried noodles
    Bradley L.

Overall, a decent spot. The best dish we got was Hainan Chicken. Super tender, with a delicious sauce. I could eat an entire chicken from this spot easily. I'd recommend avoiding the Shanghai crispy noodles with seafood. It's pretty large, and the amount of seafood you get vs the amount of noodles is a little lopsided. There's also some veggies that I found overpowering as a whole to the dish. It felt a lot like a veggie noodle dish. Everything else was overall decent.

This is a cute and intimate restaurant serving a multitude of Chinese dishes. I thought the service was prompt, attentive and friendly. I came because I heard someone rave about the vegetarian dumplings --they were solid. Quite large and filled with mushrooms, onions, green vegetables and seasoning. I ordered the veggie buns as well, but it's the same filling as the dumplings so no need to order both. I enjoyed both. I also ordered the kung pao tofu which was okay. Some of the tofu pieces were fried too hard and made it difficult to chew. The flavor was spot on. I would return and possibly try a different tofu dish, but it appears that they are better with the meat dishes so I'm not sure if it's the most comfortable option for vegetarians. Nevertheless, I liked my experience overall.

When, you have 3 cavities all filled at the same time and you can only have soft food, where do you go? Well, I go to Shanghai Taste for my comfort food. I ordered a large container of Wonton Soup. Shanghai Taste has the rich flavor and seasoned broth that soothes your stomach. The soft and tender wontons were amazing. Although, I found some of the pork in my wonton soup was not the freshest. So, I deducted one star. I also ordered the scallion pancakes and they were amazing. They were filled with scallions and very tasty. Lastly, I ordered the Mongolian Beef dish. The beef was tender, flavorful, and delicious! I ate 2 helpings of the beef. Yum! Service was very good. Extra points to the person who waited on me, because my face was still feeling the novocaine effects. The ambiance is charming. They are always putting up new paintings to improve the look of the restaurant. I do hope they add a little extra quality control to the food orders. Thanks Shanghai Taste. They are my favorite Chinese restaurant in our area.

Service was fast and the shen jian bao was exactly why they are famous. They are fried perfectly on the bottom, crispy and flavorful. Their soup dumplings skin was a bit thick. It was a good amount of soup and filling but I expected a thinner dough.

This is a solid 3.5. Lots of items on the menu so there's room for coming back. We started with the mustard greens with edamame and bean curd strips. The dish was really cold because it's been in the fridge and was the first item to come out from the kitchen. I would have liked bigger strips of the bean curd like another Chinese restaurant in the area but a nice starter. For our entrees, we got the moo shu pork and seafood pan fried noodles. The moo shu pork was as expected and lots of wraps for the large portion. I was expecting the pan fried noodles to be more like the Hong Kong style that I am familiar with. The sauce was light brown and sweet unlike what I know. There were only two seafood items - shrimp and mini scallops. The portion size was quite large. The last dish to arrive to the table was the pork soup dumplings. I was surprised to see eight dumplings instead of six. These were my favorite on a cold night. The skin had a nice chewy texture and the broth inside was yummy. It was a little disappointing that the sauces came in plastic containers. Adequate parking on a Friday night for this little shopping center.

This place is pretty tucked away and I wouldn't have seen this if it wasn't for my sister wanting to go. The place is pretty small and very busy but we didnt wait long at all to get seated, around 10-15 min. The menu was pretty packed but the waiter was super helpful and suggested some of their popular items to us. The 油条 (fried dough) was really good. Came right out the fryer to our table. The chicken was cooked to perfection, moist and tender. The sauce that was served with it was also amazing. The 烧麦 (shumai) was good but not mind blowing. But the 小笼包 (soup dumplings) we a disappointment sadly. They were cooked for too long amd the soup bursted out of each one so none of them had soup inside. The 生煎包 were also just alright, no soup inside and the dough was really heavy. This was a very homey restaurant and id say pretty authentic. If you're in the area and are looking for a nice Chinese restaurant this place isnt bad. I will come here again to try out more of their menu.

    Wontons in chili

The waitress was friendly and on time with everything. The wontons in chili were really good. Had lots of flavor and good spice. The broccoli in garlic sauce was good too but could use a lil more flavoring to add a bit more tang to it. The soup dumplings skin was a lil too hard and chewy and then meat inside had a weird and musty taste to it.

We found this spot due to a Tik tok video and I can honestly say that it was worth it! The video referenced this place having some of the best soup dumplings in the DMV. This was my first time having soup dumplings but they are so good! The filling was amazing, the broth was tasty, the dough was perfect. I was a little hesitant about ordering food from the menu based on reviews but was happy pleasantly surprised! We got the pork Lo Mein and broccoli and garlic sauce and they were both extremely tasty. We got there as soon as they opened and I'm so glad we did! Although we were the first ones there, the place ended up being packed within 30 minutes of opening. It's a small space but they were able to accommodate everyone. The servers were very polite and informative of the menu. 10/10 would recommend

I was excited to try this place after reading about the dumplings. I came in for a late lunch. I started with the crab Rangoon which were ok. I had the chicken and broccoli which was also average and not fully warmed. The dumplings were big and were also just average - good soup but didn't care for the filling. Server was attentive.

I don't think so. This is authentic Chinese food. Most foods contain soy sauce and some sort of flour. Hope this helps.

We came on a Friday night, and had to wait about 30 minutes for seating. The dining area is basically wooden chairs and tables. Not much ambiance, but that's not why you come here. We ordered scallion pancakes, soup dumplings, eggplant with basil, and noodles with chicken. I never had scallion pancakes. Nothing I would order again. I have nothing to compare, but I assume they're good. The dumplings were fantastic. The eggplant, which comes in three varieties, appeared to be a popular item with other guests. I guess it was good. I'm not a fan of saucy food. The noodles were fantastic. I feel like we ordered wrong, although my girlfriend picked everything except the noodles. This is not a place to visit if you're looking to lose weight. The hard sugar in the eggplant alone was more than I consume in two months. I'm probably not in the best position to rate our dinner as I avoid carbs and sugar. If I were to come back, I'd stick the noodles and revisit the menu to see if there is a solid chicken option. I came here hungry and left hungry as the food was not filling, and the sugar content sent my system into a bit of a shock. Nonetheless, if this cuisine is your thing, you won't be disappointed.

It's usually packed with Asian folks who come for A&J's dim sum-style food. The food is described as "Northern style" Chinese, and it's definitely not Americanized. I've eaten many a bowl of noodles here, but my favorites are the Dan Dan Mian (with hot spicy sesame sauce and peanuts) and Xue Cai Ro Si Mian (shredded pork and mustard green noodle soup). I've also enjoyed Ma La Er Si (sliced pigs ears with hot and spicy seasoning) and Pi Dan Dou Fu (tofu with Thousand Year Egg) - things I doubt will EVER show up on a menu in my hometown. And the dumplings: oh my. I think I've tried them all, and haven't found one yet I wouldn't order again. The only downside to A&J (besides it being a drive for me) is their cash-only policy. Fortunately there are lots of nearby ATMs, but beware if it's your first visit. Prices are very reasonable and portions are perfect, so overall value is great. I have kept this place in the back of my mind, with fond memories, however, have not visited in some years due to multiple moves around the country. Recently, my friend was organizing a casual gathering for our friend group, and asked ChatGPT if there were any good recommendations for food in the area that was affordable and delicious, and A&J came up as a top choice. So I came back to A&J after almost 10 years, and the food was just as good as I remembered. The decor remained simple and unchanged, but this is very typical of Asian restaurants. The menu was large, and it's easy to order by circling items you want on the paper menu. We had a mix of noodle soup bowls (so many different flavors and styles) and appetizers, and everything we tried was delicious. Our bill came out to less than $25 per person with tip. I could imagine more pretentious Chinese restaurants downtown upcharging a lot more for lower quality Chinese food (Queen's English, for example). It was so good and affordable, that I actually ended up coming back the next day with a different friend. Overall, excellent experience, and I will be back again soon! One interesting tidbit, my coworker who grew up in the Midwest and only eats meat, potatoes, absolutely no vegetables, started going here for lunch and loves it. I think flour-based items (noodles, dumplings, buns) are really the star of the restaurant, and this can be enjoyed across different taste palates! I hope you will give this place a try.

The dining area is one room, from what I could see, but very clean. You can see the kitchen where there are stacks of steamer baskets used for the soup basket. Some table had printed drinks menu but we got a handwritten one. All the menus are laminated and you're given a whiteboard marker to mark what you would like to order. We ordered some appetizers/snacks along with soup dumplings and the crispy coconut shrimp balls. Shortly after ordering, the side dishes and appetizers appeared. The dough sticks were a simple beige food for the child who happily munched on it. It's a fried dough sticks that didn't seem too greasy. Each half can still break into two smaller sticks for smaller bites. Traditionally it's paired with soy milk but we had already ordered a lot of food. The cucumber garlic salad was crispy, flavorful, and slightly sweet. Little threads of carrot added a bit of textural difference and color. The garlic provided a small bite without overpowering the fish. It's a kid-friendly dish as long as they are okay with cilantro! This is a must order. The scallion pancake with beef with also a huge hit. It's crispy and flaky (but not crumbly) and it's served with slices of beef, what appeared to be some sweet sauce (hoisin maybe?) and thinly shredded scallions. It was similar to Peking Duck but with a scallion pancake and beef instead of the thin pancake and duck. The thinly shredded scallions add a bit of a kick and freshness that counteracts the oil from the scallion pancake. The coconut-crispy shrimp balls were a huge hit. This dish was whole, headless, fried shrimp tossed in a sweet sauce then dusted with shredded coconut, served with some slices of pineapple. It reminded us a bit of mayo-shrimp dishes but with coconut. An order of the chicken soup dumplings were placed just because most of the soup dumplings contain pork. It was recommended over the other non pork shrimp and zucchini dumplings. They don't seem very hot until you get your first big bite. Took a nibble, drank some of the broth, and then with a bigger bite realized there was still more broth! Ginger, soy sauce, and chili crisp/oil is available on the table, but the juicy soup dumplings were perfect on their own. The steamer of rainbow dumplings was also quickly devoured with the black truffle (pork), mala spicy pork, and shrimp/zucchini being the favorites. Each soup dumplings had its own unique taste. Upon hearing the shrimp/zucchini was liked because it was refreshing, an order of those were also placed. Once they arrived, I had to agree they were very good. They have a different taste and texture and even though I thought the chicken was good, I found myself quickly devouring the steaming soup dumplings. While we ate, our drinks were constantly refilled and we were asked if we needed anything, even ginger slices. With the clean, prompt, service that comes along with delicious foods, we're bound to come back to try the other foods!

White or fried rice is 50 cents. Brown rice is $1. Not unreasonable. Some people don't eat rice. We shared one fried rice and it was plenty. And it's good. I got the hot and sour soup and my partner got the egg drop. The hot and sour emphasis here is on pepper and spice. The egg drop had a nice, rich egg flavor. The entrees each were good. The kung pao dish comes with asparagus, green/red pepper snd mushrooms. The peppers were nice and crunchy. Very good. The pork dish is heavy on the ginger, but very good. The spring roll was "ok". The service started out well. We were warmly greeted and the food came out promptly. But our water glasses were empty for a long time, to the point where I was going to ask the cashier for help finding water. With us being the only customers in the place and Staff walking around (and I placed my empty glass at the edge of the table facing the center of the room), it was pretty disappointing and annoying. It's a nice restaurant with a nice vibe. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on the service - maybe there's a lot to do in the back to prepare to close after lunch.

Service and food preparation were really good…read more That said, there was a lot going on with the menu, and I wasn't sure what to order. The server didn't have any recommendations, nor could they sufficiently describe any of the dishes to me. Every entree I mentioned, I was told was food, which wasn't helpful. I ended up getting a special with pork belly. I asked it be made extra spicy. Additionally I had to order rice (because this entree did not come with rice) and an egg drop soup. The soup came out right away and was really good. My entree took an extremely long time though. And I was immediately unimpressed with the pork belly. I've realized now pork belly should only be fried. The way it was cooked in this dish left it chewy and bland. The potatoes and onions and other flavors in the dish were nice, so I took the food to go. I don't make it out to Rockville often so it's unlikely I'd return here again.

But I gotta say, my all time favorite dish is the cucumber salad. OMG I could eat it all day everyday. It is just so perfectly seasoned, spicy, refreshing, ugh I loveeee it. The hand pulled noodles are always so good. We've had the noodle soup which is also so good. Literally everything they make is good And besides Bobs Shanghai, I am certain these are the best xiaolongbao I've had in MOCO! They are BIG, juicy, soupy, meaty and so yummy. I don't like that they always forget to give us the vinegar sauce but we ask for it anyways. Highly recommend!!

The pork buns alone are worth the order…read more Got this delivered via Uber Eats and honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm glad I took the chance. Ordered the beef combo knife slice noodle soup, pork soup dumplings, pork wontons with homemade spicy sauce, and the pan fried pork buns. The pan fried pork buns were the clear MVP here, perfectly crispy on the outside with that satisfying crunch, but soft and fluffy inside. Super filling too, which is always a win in my book. The beef noodle soup was solid comfort food with good portions, and the dumplings hit the spot. Only minor thing - I wished the "spicy sauce" had more kick to it. Could've used some extra heat, but that's me being picky. For the price and portion sizes, this place delivers (pun intended). You're getting a solid amount of food that actually tastes good. Would definitely order again, and those pork buns are going to be a repeat item for sure.
