We ordered the soup dumplings along with some other popular dishes we saw other tables get. The soup dumplings had good flavors but the wrapper was not as thin as I would like it. I would rather get their pan fried dumplings which were super juicy and had an amazing crisp bottom layer. The green beans were my absolute favorite as they had a nice snap/crunch while maintaining the spicy/garlicky wok flavor. The scallion noodles were also surprisingly good as they looked bland but actually had lots of flavor from their fragrant scallion oil. We ordered 5*soup dumplings: homemade, lots of filling, 8 dumplings in one order. 4*Sauteed Fish Filet Wine Sau: not enough wine sauce. The owner said that some diners always request less sauce and salt, so it was cooked with less sauce, but we are more accustomed to original flavor. This is a cute and intimate restaurant serving a multitude of Chinese dishes. I thought the service was prompt, attentive and friendly. I came because I heard someone rave about the vegetarian dumplings --they were solid. Quite large and filled with mushrooms, onions, green vegetables and seasoning. I ordered the veggie buns as well, but it's the same filling as the dumplings so no need to order both. I enjoyed both. I also ordered the kung pao tofu which was okay. Some of the tofu pieces were fried too hard and made it difficult to chew. The flavor was spot on. I would return and possibly try a different tofu dish, but it appears that they are better with the meat dishes so I'm not sure if it's the most comfortable option for vegetarians. When, you have 3 cavities all filled at the same time and you can only have soft food, where do you go? Well, I go to Shanghai Taste for my comfort food. I ordered a large container of Wonton Soup. Shanghai Taste has the rich flavor and seasoned broth that soothes your stomach. The soft and tender wontons were amazing. Although, I found some of the pork in my wonton soup was not the freshest. So, I deducted one star. I also ordered the scallion pancakes and they were amazing. They were filled with scallions and very tasty. Lastly, I ordered the Mongolian Beef dish. The beef was tender, flavorful, and delicious! I ate 2 helpings of the beef. Yum! Service was very good. Extra points to the person who waited on me, because my face was still feeling the novocaine effects. The ambiance is charming. For our to-go lunch, we ordered pan fried meat buns, noodle with shredded beef, and noodle soup with pork and preserved cabbage. The total came out to be $38 after tax. We thought the lunch was really good. Our three year old son loved the meat bun! He can only eat two but he's pretty full afterwards! We loved the texture and the flavor of the bun! The noodle with shredded beef does not have soup (there is another version that contains soup). This is by far my favorite dish from the restaurant. The incredible heat and spice plus the noodles make a great combination. My wife loved her preserved cabbage noodle soup as well. The dish was really cold because it's been in the fridge and was the first item to come out from the kitchen. I would have liked bigger strips of the bean curd like another Chinese restaurant in the area but a nice starter. For our entrees, we got the moo shu pork and seafood pan fried noodles. The moo shu pork was as expected and lots of wraps for the large portion. I was expecting the pan fried noodles to be more like the Hong Kong style that I am familiar with. The sauce was light brown and sweet unlike what I know. There were only two seafood items - shrimp and mini scallops. The portion size was quite large. The last dish to arrive to the table was the pork soup dumplings. I was surprised to see eight dumplings instead of six. These were my favorite on a cold night. The skin had a nice chewy texture and the broth inside was yummy. It was a little disappointing that the sauces came in plastic containers. The chicken was cooked to perfection, moist and tender. The sauce that was served with it was also amazing. The 烧麦 (shumai) was good but not mind blowing. But the 小笼包 (soup dumplings) we a disappointment sadly. They were cooked for too long amd the soup bursted out of each one so none of them had soup inside. The 生煎包 were also just alright, no soup inside and the dough was really heavy. This was a very homey restaurant and id say pretty authentic. We found this spot due to a Tik tok video and I can honestly say that it was worth it! The video referenced this place having some of the best soup dumplings in the DMV. This was my first time having soup dumplings but they are so good! The filling was amazing, the broth was tasty, the dough was perfect. I was a little hesitant about ordering food from the menu based on reviews but was happy pleasantly surprised! We got the pork Lo Mein and broccoli and garlic sauce and they were both extremely tasty. We got there as soon as they opened and I'm so glad we did! Although we were the first ones there, the place ended up being packed within 30 minutes of opening. It's a small space but they were able to accommodate everyone. I'd been to Shanghai Taste before, but it had been a while. Perhaps there are new owners? The food tasted fine, although I broke out in hives afterwards (MSG? something else??). What was objectionable was the service. I dislike having entrees follow delivery of the soup by like 30 seconds. Don't rush us! He was cleaning all around us, while we were eating and about 30 minutes before they were scheduled to close. He put the bill down in front of the guy. When I objected and asked why he hadn't put it in the middle? He said "because he's the boss!" Obviously, that hurt his tip, as I was the one paying. Finally, at about 9:02 (literally), he came back to say "we're closed" and shooed us out of the place. It's so close to home, and the food has been good before. Decent Shanghainese food. Have been coming for years and always thought it was good enough esp their pan fried soup dumplings, spiced fried pork, but quality of some ingredients weren't that high. E.g. noodle with beef and long horn peppers, beef is not as good as other places I've had this dish, just never tasted as fresh/better meat quality. And sometimes the chopping of the peppers is sloppy/lazy appearing compared to other mom/pop places who seem to take more pride in their food prep. Tonight they put all these burnt scallion pieces which has never happened before. It felt like they dumped a bunch of black scallion pieces that were left after making scallion oil -yuck. Had to remove them all as they were bitter. Also this is the first time they severely overcooked the noodles in their Shanghai lo mein that my son usually devours. He said he wasn't sure if he wanted to order from here again and they were so mushy. The chef knew this and still served it. The women who are usually there were not there tonight, only 3 guys one of whom didn't have great customer service skills unlike the daughter (I assume) who was always very friendly in the past. The pork and chive flower however, while good, had very little pork, probably not even 20% of the dish. Its very flavorful, but disappointing. The crispy beef wasn't really what I was expecting. This dish was too 'Americanized'; it's literally more like meat candy. Fried to a hard crisp and really sweet. Maybe we can request it to be fried less hard and less sweet, but that was a surprise. Found this place thanks to NOVA foodies FB group! The roast pork was packed!!! A nice flavor no carrots or peas but the plate was affordable and can last two days. Enjoyed their eggroll and the pan fried dumplings were packed. My mom ordered a combination rice noddle and it had a nice charred and crisp flavor to them. Again the portion was worth the price. I feel like Shanghai Taste gets over shadowed by Bob's and other Asian restaurants on the pike. However, this place has been around for over a decade. Their soup dumplings are comparable to Bob's and on the weekends, they offer a bun-style soup dumpling. They have a lot more entree options than Bob's, but I don't think they have dim sum items. A very small Chinese restaurant my family and I have been going to for several years. It's In a small, run-down shopping strip with only a few stores next door. A bit of a turn off is that there's a veterinarian office next door. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and the restroom is for customers only. I've never seen mice or roaches but the restaurant doesn't appear very hygienic. The decor is outdated and would only recommend dining in for small parties (5 people or less). The food overall though is really delicious and affordable. They're known for their soup dumplings (Xiao long bao) and other northern Chinese dishes. It's a decent variety of food and I really enjoy it. Service is excellent as well. Their kitchen is pretty fast and the waiters/waitresses try to take your order as soon as you're ready. They clean off tables as soon as you leave for other customers to be seated. My family and I were fortunate enough to have gone during a slow time so we were the only diners. I would say this is a great option for carry-out. read more

Ordered carryout recently. Disappointed in just about everything. The chive pocket tasted old and was refried. Definitely didn't look or taste fresh. The XLB were chewy. The fried gluten was very sweet. Only thing that was ok was the rice cake stir fried with pork/veggies. Note that they've shifted during the pandemic. Besides the fact that this place is a lot cheaper compared to other competing places in the area, I'm not sure what else is good. Also to note, this place is carry out only so maybe that attributed to the poor taste of the food? My friend and I got pork XLB and stir-fried green beans. Both were only $20 which was nice! The pork XLB comes with 8 dumplings for $8 and the green beans were $11.50 for a large size. The portion size was quite big. However, when we got back home, I found that my dumplings were pretty deformed and a lot of them were punctured. Sadly, even the less deformed ones did not have a lot of soup in them, making the dumplings pretty dry and flavorless. I was not very impressed.
