Updating my review because I love this place so much and I hope it lasts forever. I've gone here probably 10+ times since I have found it and tried quite a few things. All amazing and always consistent with great service. Just going to list a few dishes worth trying: - sticky rice shao mai - lamb with cumin - general tsos - braised tofu with veggies - scallion pancake wrapped beef - beef noodle soup - eggplant in garlic sauce - also try their asian drinks! The herbal tea and the orange soda is yummy - might as well just post the menu I really should get better at taking photos when I eat here.. can't help myself and always forget when digging in. read more

Food was terrible. This restaurant is the worst restaurant ever not only in Chinese restaurants but also among all other restaurants I ever ate. Ingredients didn't seem fresh at all and cook quality was the lowest. Of course the taste was the worst ever. Aside from the fact that raisins makes no sense in this dish I h ave a nut allergy and could not eat this. when I told the restaurant this they blamed me for not telling them I had a nut allergy instead of owning it should have all ingredients on the menu and gave me a hard time about replacing my meal with a cheaper option that I could eat. read more

Best Chinese food I have found in the Boston area. Hands down. I've been in pursuit of good Chinese food for over the better part of a decade. Can't believe I'm only just now discovering this place. The soups were delicious - hot and sour was just the right amount of spicy and not too greasy; egg drop was perfect. The pork soup dumplings were also excellent. Not too greasy, perfect textured skins and proportion of meat. The home style tofu and stir fried string beans were also delicious. Only dish we didn't love was the sesame chicken - but perhaps it's more about not loving this dish generally vs that they didn't execute it well. The service was fast and friendly. Prices are reasonable ($100 for lunch for family of four). We ended with a yummy boba tea. Street parking is also pretty convenient around there. read more

I finally made my way over to Dumpling Xuan and it's now one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Not only are their dumplings and spicy dishes good, they make amazing niangao as well! I am always thinking about reasons to return. The pork xiao long bao are very good! Flavorful hot soup, sturdy (but not too thick) skin. Fresh ginger in the dipping sauce (though I would rather have soy sauce than vinegar). It definitely made me want to try more dumplings next time! The niangao was the star of the show. Probably one of the best I've ever had (and I order it whenever it's on the menu). I love the addition of bamboo -- it adds flavor and texture that elevates the dish. Great flavor, perfectly cooked rice cakes, tender flavorful pork, and crunchy veggies. I would come back just for this (and have). The hot and spicy fish fillet was recommended by the waitress. I honestly thought we were getting the boiled fish fillet but this was a delightful surprise. Delicious savory and spicy flavors in the seasoning, tender, crispy, and hot fish fillet...and the peppers were a nice touch as well. I loved it! I would definitely get this again. The eggplant in garlic sauce was pretty sweet and the eggplant was less tender than I like, but it was pretty good overall. The second time we went, we also tried the chive and egg pocket which was tasty, the mapo tofu which I thought was nothing too special (but we did get it vegetarian, which may be different from usual), and the dry chili chicken which was good but not my favorite iteration. Overall the niangao and hot and spicy fish fillet were super delicious and I can't wait to come back and gorge on dumplings next time. The staff are super friendly and accommodating of dietary restrictions and the restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating. I will certainly be back soon. read more

We chose Dumpling Xuan based on some of the other Yelpers I follow - and we LOVED it! I don't think we're food snobs, but we find that many of the local Chinese restaurants are totally boring. Dumpling Xuan is anything but boring. We had their Pork & Leek dumplings (A+ delicious) and Chicken w/cashews (usually pretty ho-hum, but their version was superb). Nice staff, nice decor, and a very pleasant evening! Next time we'll get some adventurous dishes. read more

I was greatly pleased with all the dishes we ordered tonight for takeout. We ended up going with the classics of Shrimp and noodles, pork dumplings, generals Gaus, and fried chicken strips. All the dishes were tasty and fresh. My favorite was the Shrimp noodles ( lo mein) and probably the chicken strips. The fried chicken strips did not match what we saw online but were very tasty. The pork dumplings were large and tasty but was hoping for a bit more filling for there size. Excited to find a local chinese restaurant that has great quality. Please be warned, if you order from your phone you may get charged more money. I noticed on Sunday when I ordered on their website I was charged $4 more for both dishes - so an $8 premium for ordering from my phone vs. that what is listed on their current paper and online menu. Apparently I was not actually ordering from them I was being funneled through Doordash even though all the branding I saw on the ordering page is Dumpling Xuan. I would not have ordered through Doordash. This just feels crappy. read more

Dumpling Xuan was one of the few places nearby that was open on Christmas that we hadn't tried yet, so we decided to order takeout. My partner ordered the spicy chicken, which was good (but not amazing) & super spicy even for him (who has a pretty high tolerance for heat). I ordered the home style tofu, which was drowning in watery sauce & only came with a few vegetables (I think I counted 4 tiny pieces of bell pepper, 2 mushrooms, & 2 unidentified veggies which I think were jicama). The tofu was okay flavor, but super soggy/limp/wrinkly. I ended up draining most of the sauce since it was so soup-like. We also split an order of scallion pancakes which were really yummy & the best thing in the bag. Unfortunately, both of us felt sick almost immediately after eating and were still feeling it the next day. We had about half of the food left, which we ended up throwing away out of fear of getting more tummy trouble :( For two entrees, the side of pancakes, & 2 sides of rice, it was about $70 (which is a little too high for us to risk trying again). read more

I tried the juicy buns with pork and the spring rolls from dumpling xuan it did not disappoint. I called ahead and my order was ready in 10 minutes. I came slightly earlier than 10 minutes and was able to pay with cash, they prefer cash, and then I took a seat in the booth by the window until my food was ready. Ready. It was ready in a couple minutes and the whole place seemed rather quiet, but it was just 5:00. On a Thursday. A lowkey spot in Cambridge that serves delicious, authentic dumplings. The Taiwan noodle soup with beef was light but incredibly packed with flavor; the beef was tender and soft - definitely a must try. Of course, I also had to get the buns (xiao long bao). The wrap was light and thin, the pork was flavorful and bursting with that savory soup when you bite into it. This place is always so full and I truly understand why. The menu is extensive, there's something on the menu for everyone. Even as a vegetarian, I couldn't decide what to pick from. Me and my boyfriend Randomly tried this place for dinner, and I'm glad we did! We go the teriyaki chicken skewers, crab Rangoon and the shrimp friend rice. The crab Rangoon was good and the teriyaki chicken was amazing, even without sauce like I expected. So good. The rice was also really really good. As far as affordable Chinese cuisine goes, this is probably the best deal in the Cambridge area. I've enjoyed their juicy pork buns (xlb), their rice cakes with chicken, and their dan dan noodles. Everything has been flavorful and well portioned. The one thing I highly recommend against, however, is the spicy crispy chicken. You'd think this would either be boneless, or that the bones would be obvious enough to pick out. That wasn't the case here. The bones almost blend in with the chicken, making you have to be super careful while eating, and requiring that you often unexpectedly have bone in your mouth that you'd have to spit out. This was not a pleasant eating experience, and could be a choking hazard. It did not appear to be a standard cut of chicken; it almost felt like they'd fried the extra bits of chicken that nobody wants. read more

The pork-chives steamed gyoza were generously portioned and flavorful. The sauce was a bit sweeter than I liked, so I just used the vinegar from the soup dumplings. 4. The healthy vegetable medley was customized for me by the Chef! They were very thoughtful in making the dish ~ I asked for no salt and more broccoli and they were very accommodating. The veggies were lightly dressed in a little oil and made for a healthy balance to the other hearty dishes. The server lady was warm and friendly. Very welcoming and hospitable service. It was not overwhelming or too salty. Our favorite was the order of Shrimp Dumplings! These are the best dumplings I've had in my entire life! The shrimp were so fresh and they were so perfectly light! The outer part was not "doughy" like other places. The waitresses were super nice too! This is my go to Chinese restaurant in East Cambridge. It's a tiny hole in the wall with fantastic food and service. I came here with my first gen Chinese parents who loved the food here as well. They are known for their dumplings and other iterations (soup dumplings, baozi). We ordered their shumai which is not the Hong Kong style with meat. Instead it has sticky rice 油饭 and was super tasty. Their soup dumplings were excellent and very soupy. The beef roll was my favorite, a little sweet and savory wrapped in a crispy roll. The picked greens and fish soup was also fantastic and was a good size. Their garlic sautéed greens (ask about their veggies of the day) were delicious and also more than enough for the three of us. Eating family style is definitely the way to go here. I will definitely be back. There is limited street parking so I would plan accordingly. read more

The place is a MUST! I just read through the last few comments and grabbed some stinky tofu, dumplings, Dan Dan noodles and the beef pancake. We ordered for delivery, and they were pretty quick. Everything was so good! The pork and cabbage dumpling and the pancake were my favorites, but the Dan Dan noodles were really good also. One thing I won't get again is probably the stinky tofu. That must be an acquired taste because it definitely didn't grab me this time around.
