I was so excited to try this place! We came down from Maine for a two-night stay just to stroll around and eat delicious food. I'd had my sights on Earl's after reading some great reviews. The minute I walked in, I felt this dueling banjos atmosphere of tiki outpost meets garden suburbia - almost a "Blade Runner" vibe as one looks up at the illuminated skyscrapers through the glass of the outdoor bar & patio seating. We did not have reservations and I knew the risk; we are staying at a convention center and many groups had converged on this hotel for meetings. My wife and I got REALLY LUCKY to find two unoccupied seats at the upstairs bar, directly facing the grill. For any of you who have worked in or managed kitchens, or functioned as a server in a high-end production machine such as Earl's .. you know this seat can be a blessing and a curse. It was great to watch and see and HEAR the "behind the scenes" motion machine, as we sipped our drinks and looked at the menu. Our server Caroline was lovely and accommodating. As we chilled out at the bar (I usually dislike having a "d-Luxe" dinner at a bar seat) we selected entrees and enjoyed the action around us. It was very busy, due in part to the convention traffic. At some point in time, there was a glitch, and perhaps only a fine dining veteran would have caught this. I caught it. I had ordered a unique plating experience .. and although I was still relaxing and taking in the scene, I spotted it leaving the grill when finished. I actually was seeing the steak being grilled in real time .. temp: rare. I had ordered a ribeye with peppercorn sauce and double grilled broccolini in lieu of garlic mashed potatoes. It left the grill, plated, and went under a lamp, ready for pickup. My wife had chosen for dinner a Filet Surf n Turf with grilled shrimp. Now: my assumption was one of two: Either the filet went out slightly BEFORE the ribeye or, more likely, it was put up first. As I continued to watch the rare ribeye hang out under the lamp, draped in hot peppercorn brandy sauce, with neighboring inharmonious broccolini feeling forgotten about, I think we both finally realized that another server grabbed the medium surf n turf that should have been partnered with the Ribeye. That happens - it happens a lot actually, I have seen it in our kitchen BUT this does not have to occur as often as it does. There can be a very rudimentary marking / signaling / color-code system put in place. Or just paying attention works, too. At this point I am aggravated and incensed that this kind of place could hedge this rookie mistake. The peppercorn ribeye has now left the interrogation lamp and has been lovingly placed in the land of misfit toys. It has now been 30 minutes. I am timing this, actually excited to see how they are going to correct this maneuver. We don't know where the filet went and the line is momentarily clear and there is no filet on the grill. Puzzling. It is about this time that I stop Caroline and ask her to listen to something I want to share with her. I gesture for her to lean in closer. "I want to let you know about something that is currently in the pipeline. My dinner has been plated and ready for just around 40 minutes now; it's right over there (pointing) and several of the chefs have picked it up and poked at it and made confused faces but have not really inquired with anyone about it. I can understand that maybe it is waiting for its filet counterpart, but it has been 40 minutes and there is not a filet & shrimp in sight. Do to this asynchronous misinformed oversight, the entire vibe and excitement of dining here is now nothing but embers, and I want both steaks remade, synchronously, and this is not a request. It is a guideline of what is to happen." Can you even believe it was another ten minutes before Caroline began explaining to one of the kitchen overseers what I had patiently explained to her? I have been on her end of it and it is not fun for a server to be tagged on this .. no less, when it involves $150 worth of prime meat. No one wants to waste that kind of money, but as I sulked and looked over at the ribeye, whose blanket had now congealed and whose lifelight was barely faint .. the dry broccolinI .. the once juicy and crisp pieces of fat on the marbled steak .. the love for this dining room and atmosphere was now extinguished, and we asked to pay for our drinks, and communicated that we would not be paying for our dinner which was still partially in purgatory. I was very sad that I didn't get to eat that steak, freshly prepared. And my wife felt the same dismay. For clarification, we did not eat our steaks; we left. I would heartfully like to praise the kitchen manager (plain clothes guy) and our server, Caroline, for their many alternative suggestions to satisfy us. I love Earl's. The service is always amazing. Staff are friendly and attenative and usually knowledgable about menu items. Their menu items are delicious and there are so many items to choose from. My personal favorite has been the angry lettuce wraps, they are the perfect blend of refreshing yet savory. I have gone to Earl's just for these wraps. I genuinely talk about them so much that my friends texted me condolences when they were taken off the menu (please bring them back). Their cocktails are also delicious, I am a big fan of the marilyn monroe (now the passion fruit martini). The prudential location also has a great vibe to it. I arrived in Boston after an 8 hour drive with my family. We decided on Earl's after viewing their menu here on YELP. They seemed to have ample options for me and because of my dietary limitations I always view the menu before dining at an establishment. The ambiance is nice maybe a bit loud but nice overall. My kids ordered a sprite and coke both arrived FLAT and no sweetness. The manager comes out to discuss some of the dietary concerns regarding because my son ordered something GF. Then another manager comes our table to argue with me about the fact YELP has this menu wrong and it's not their fault. I was shocked at his inability to understand that had zero to do with me as a customer. He said something about this YELP page being posted by customers uploading the menu and I literally handed him my phone to show him this is posted under their restaurant and he became even more hostile. Such a bizarre response. Regardless I was floored he argued with me embarrassing me in front of my step daughter who we drove to visit. We ended up ordering kids meals and the food was unbelievably small portions and lukewarm at best. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone based on poor management responses to guests and the quality of the food and service we received dining there for the first time. Went to Earls for brunch after a nice run -- our second time here, and once again, it didn't disappoint. We sat at the bar patio outside -- perfect vibes, sunny and relaxed. Service started a little slow but picked up quickly, and the staff was friendly throughout. The bartenders' recommendations were spot on -- the mango margarita and key lime pie were absolutely on point. Both were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. This was my third time coming to earls and I honestly love this place so much. The two times that I came in for food, I had lunch and dinner. Please make a reservation because the line can get very long during peak hours. I had a reservation for lunch (years ago) and decided to venture back for a late night dinner after a long day of traveling. I was so happy that they are open late and scarfed down all my food. My server was so nice and attentive. We loved the chicken tacos, guacamole & truffle fries. The portions were large and well worth the price. Since we came towards the end of the night, it wasn't too loud or busy. A few days later, we came back for some drinks and there was not space for a table so we went to the bar. We almost left but then saw people leave from the bar and rushed to snag the spots. Our bartender was super nice and poured us some great drinks. That was disappointing, since we selected this location because we wanted to dine on the patio. Once we got over our initial disappointment, we opted to stay and we were sat in a corner booth farthest from the patio. The restaurant was busy and it was LOUD, there were points in our conversation where my friend and I were screaming at each other just to be heard above all of the chatter and noise around us. I ordered the clam chowder to start, which sounded interesting because it has chunks of tomatoes and big bacon bits throughout. It was tasty but didn't resemble any clam chowder I've ever had before. I also ordered the surf and turf and our server did his best to upsell each step of the way. I ended up paying extra for the lobster tail instead of the shrimp the dish comes with and added the herbed butter to my sirloin. As we sat at our table I couldn't help but wonder... in a restaurant full of staff, how can a table feel so alone? We came for a birthday dinner and a good time. What we got was 2.5 hours of cold food, missing drinks, and a server who disappeared the moment she got sat a big table. I guess we should have seen the signs when we had to get up and grab our drink menu from the host stand--because apparently, menus are now DIY. And just when she reappeared, she casually dropped a story about being drunk last weekend--while avoiding bringing us our food like it personally offended her. Located inside Prudential across from Eataly, Earl's has a lovely large space to dine! They've got a bunch of seating options such as lounge, bar, and rooftop patio (it's more like sunroom bc it's enclosed). To be honest, I was disappointed with the food here but I had heard that their drinks are worth it. We ordered a margarita pizza, some tacos, and crème brûlée for a quick bite after finishing shopping. Looks of the food were deceiving this day; The pizza came cold and very flimsy... not very edible. It was bland, as well. The tacos were not the best but it is what it is. Now, the crème brûlée was very, very sweet. Even with it being extremely sweet to the point of tasting bitter, it was probably the best thing we ordered. I am hoping it was just an off day when we went because I do enjoy the Assembly Row location. Nonetheless, Earl's is still a cute place to go for their patio. Fee does not go to staff, which it explicitly states, it's just random, non-transparent change they tack on when your bill comes. It is shady. The food left much to be desired, and the prices of some of these items were honestly ridiculous. I also felt as though the drinks were on the watery side. If I am going to pay $20 for a drink, it better be strong! Anyway, I ordered the chicken parmesan with risotto as my entrée. I will say that the portion was huge, but the food itself was almost inedible. Both the chicken and risotto were incredibly salty. I had to ask the others at my table to try the chicken to see if it was salty or if it was just me, but everyone agreed that it was too salty. As a bunch of people tried the dish, there was not much left on the plate, so I didn't want to complain to the server about the dish that was almost completely gone. This is a review specifically for having a private event at Earls. We were hosting a corporate event and found 'The Cocktail Lab', this is the first floor room of Earls in the Prudential. For a private event, there's a minimum food and beverage spend that includes the use of the space, servers, private bathroom etc. Highly recommend! The process was so simple. Vicky helped us pick out a date and secure the space with a simple credit card form. A month prior, we choose our food options that would be served family-style on the bar, as well as Aperol spritz towers and custom cocktails. We brought in simple decor (conical flasks and beakers) due to the science theme. Christy handled the whole event perfectly, Sierra and Kelly and team were so professional and friendly, they were also proactive in advising us on where we were with the minimum spend and suggesting some upgrades, martini espressos and champagne toast to help us meet it. Our guests felt well looked after, cocktails are delicious and there are great no-alcohol options so our non-drinking guests felt included. Food was fabulous, tacos and sushi and flatbreads work well for sharing. Excellent location, elegant yet cozy space, phenomenal service, excellent organization, would happily hold another event here. read more

I came here for brunch after a day of volunteering at the Hynes Convention center. It was easy to make an appointment in the morning for Saturday brunch. We started off with calamari - it was delicious! I tried the new Nashville hot chicken sandwich with truffle fries. The sandwich was very good - I loved the special sauce - but it fell apart easily. My only complaint is the dirty martini was the third drink I had to order because the first two I ordered couldn't be made (one because the machine to make frozen drinks wasn't working and then again because they were out of an ingredient). I know things happen but that just seemed odd, especially being out of an ingredient on a Friday afternoon. Food came out really quickly but bad service was slow. Three consecutive items being overcooked is enough for me to cross them off the list. I will note they did remove the dumplings from my bill.
