I'm sick of places having hours and closing early anyways. We walked in at 7:39 and they were closing at 8:00. We were greeted at the door, by a young waitress stating that they had "sold out of everything" which we replied, "really?" Only to have another young man reply "really!" As he was sweeping. They had chairs on the tables on the left two thirds of the dining area and people still eating on the right side and outside. Clearly they were ready to go home, and I guess that trumped my hunger.... even though it was during business hours. Is this how the owners ask them to operate? It makes me wonder. read more

Great experience. Service was friendly and prompt. Excellent corn bread. I had the jerk chicken with black beans and rice. The jerk wasn't too spicy with a strong thyme flavor. Black beans were soupy with a strong cinnamon taste. I dumped the rice into the black beans to absorb the sauce. Delicious! read more

I cannot find words for how good this food is. I wish I could live in the kitchen. I would take another road trip just to come eat here. We gorged ourselves AND had desert for $25. The portions are huge, and the food is fresh and fast. The jerk chicken fell off the bone, and the barbecue beans had bacon in them. Went to Eatz with the family this past Saturday night on a long road trip. We are very picky about southern food and have eaten all over the south. This place was terrific and way beyond expectations. The owner was courteous and pleasant and the food was amazing. Their collard greens are cooked in a way where they don't feel greasy. Good food! They have the hands down best BBQ sandwich in the area, but my favorite is the catfish. The slaw is a very unique sweet slaw and the beans are also very good. If you want something other than commercial restaurant "heat up" food at a reasonable price eat at Eatz!! read more

Tried Eatz for the first time today. I had the pork BBQ sandwich, which was excellent. The menu says sliced, but it is shaved making for an excellent sandwich. Prices are reasonable, and the service is great. The place is small, so I would suggest not eating during rush hours. My friends and I went around 2, so the service was quick. One of my friends had the meatloaf sandwich and mashed potatoes & gravy. She said the mashed potatoes were great: real homemade mashed potatoes. I had the macaroni & cheese: this too was homemade. If you're expecting box style food with overdone flavor and spices then you might not enjoy the food. However, if you enjoy home style cooking and a homey atmosphere, you will enjoy Eatz. Famished after a short ride on The Snake ( Hwy 421), we skidded into Eatz a little before 3 in the afternoon. The place closes at 3p so I wasn't expecting a friendly greeting. I opened the door anyway. The restaurant was understandably empty. Marcus smiled and said "Come on in!", and we did. If you're a vegetarian, you'll be pleasantly surprized at this little southern gem. Most of the vegetables, EVEN THE COLLARDS, are pig free. This was our second visit to the restaurant and are always pleased with the quality of the food. We had a "carb-loading" plate of black beans that were spiced with cumin and chili, creamy mac and cheese, a baked potato (ask for REAL butter, otherwise you'll get Country Crock), and moist cornbread. This is my favorite place for home cooking in Bristol. The fried catfish is crispy and delicious. BBQ is right on, but my favorite is the cornbread and beans for lunch. Then throw a few cut up fresh onions in there you're in comfort food heaven. Just like Mama used to make. Great and friendly service. My husband and I happened upon this place as we were heading to the music museum. As we sat I looked it up on Yelp only to find great reviews. We both ordered the BBQ pork sandwiches. I had the collards, he the fries. Oh my... so good. All of it. The pork was sliced instead of shredded and delicious. The fries looked like a potato hand sliced. My greens were perfect. We absolutely loved Eatz on Moore Street! I ordered the catfish with collards and black beans; my older daughter chose the mac-n-cheese; younger daughter (and the picky one) selected the black beans with rice + cornbread; and my husband ate the Jamaican Jerk chicken. I am not being hyperbolic when I say that everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! I expected the typical Southern catfish - good, but also, of course, heavy, given that it's deep fried. But this catfish was light and crispy, even delicate. The collards were hands-down some of the best I've ever had -- fresh and even somewhat al dente, and not at all mushy & swimming in greasy "pot likker" like most Southern collard greens. (When Mr. Canty, the owner, came around to check and make sure we were pleased with our orders, I asked him exactly how he prepared the collards. He told me his secret, which he may also share with you ;-) In any case, my husband enjoyed his chicken (though he conceded that my dish was better overall) and my daughters ate everything up -- even my picky child. She especially enjoyed the cornbread. We were too full for dessert! I'll admit: We took a risk on Eatz -- our family was on a long road-trip and we ended up stopping for the night in Bristol, somewhere we'd never been before. We knew nothing about the town nor any of its restaurants. After reading a couple of reviews, we chose Eatz, and we were not disappointed. In fact, it was a truly memorable dining experience for our family. The restaurant is family-owned and operated, so there is true attention to detail and pride in what the Canty family serves. There is a warm and friendly vibe in the place. Mr. Canty said they tried years ago to incorporate healthy cooking with Southern fare, and here they have succeeded. We liked everything we got. My husband had the baked chicken which was beyond tender. I got the half rack of ribs which we shared. The ribs were excellent. They were very meaty and very smokey. For sides we got barbecue beans, green beans, mac and cheese, and coleslaw. I liked the barbecue beans the best. Cornbread comes with most entrées and it is moist and wonderful. We also had a piece of Buttermilk pie which was tasty but the slice we shared was a bit small . We'll be back for sure. read more

Eatz is a small, unassuming place, serving up some of the best food I've ever tasted. Their pastas, meatloaf, and chicken are all wonderful, but my favorite by far, and what keeps me coming back, is the catfish special on Fridays. Now, I wouldn't normally even eat catfish- who wants a bottom feeder that feasts on lake trash? Um, I do if it comes from Eatz! The only downside (if there is one) is that this is a family-owned place, so sometimes the service can be a bit slow. It is definitely worth the wait, though! Great southern food! A family run joint. Ambiance is lacking, but the fried chicken and banana pudding are about the best you'll find.
