If I could I would give a negative or 0 star. Food was absolute slop. I got the ham with potatoes & sauerkraut. They brought out a ham hock that was half fat, the sauerkraut bled onto the potatoes which turned them to sour mush. So the meal was barely eatable. The coffee was strong and good but gave me powdered creamer, another loss of points. For desert the chocolate cake was pretty good, but again, no better than store bought. My companion got the apple strudel that had hardly any apples and when I tasted it it was doughy with no apple to be seen. My companions meal look unappetizing and she said it was not good either. To top it off, the service was terrible. Even though it was not busy at all (three other tables) she never checked our water or asked if I wanted more coffee. My companion did say the beer was very good. When I walked back to the bathroom I noticed as I walked by the kitchen that the floor was dirty all the way back to the bathroom. Finnally, for the cost I found it to be possibly the worse dinning experience I've ever had. My friend is Hungarian and i have spent time in Austria and Germany, so we had really been looking forward to a good authentic meal. We were both sorely disappointed. The spaetzel was not cooked properly as it was doughy and cooked many hours before. The tokany was tasteless. A very poor representation of Hungarian food! My friend had the Eisbien which was unimpressive as well. We then had the Apple strudel and the hazelnut chocolate roll. The strudel was lacking in apples and the dough was soggy. The hazelnut chocolate roll was good. The price was astronomical! The service was poor also! She never asked how the food was and didn't offer to refresh the coffee when dessert came. Sorry, doesn't hold a flame to Haus Murphy, which is understandably a hard place to beat. They were out of a lot of things. We were told the owner comes in the morning and makes all the food so they often run out of things. Which I think is weird. The pretzel was hard, like crouton hard at some points, cheese was nothing special. The chicken schnitzel had a 'garlic sauce' but it also had dill in it (which isn't mentioned on the menu) and that completely ruined it for me. It was NOT good. Honestly- we will probably wait a few months and try again, as we get that trying to compare to Haus Murphy is hard, that place is everything. So I'm not totally ruling this out yet, just think maybe they have some things to work out. The front dining area bar is nice, the back area of the dining area where the pool tables are is not very nice. Not used, kinda dirty. We sat out in the back at the picnic tables. Really disappointed, no one told us there was live music on the patio first of all. Ordered 2 pretzels and beer cheese for appetizers for 6 people. One was burnt. We all ordered meals. We had extremely slow service, close to an hour wait for our food. Goulash was not what we thought it would be only 2 pieces of potato in a whole bowl of meat and gravy Paprikash was ok. This restaurant offers good food, and an interesting atmosphere. By far the best food they have to offer is their red cabbage and sauerkraut. They are the best I have eaten anywhere. Unfortunately, they are considered side-dishes and their potions are extremely small. There is too much meat and not enough of anything else. I would much rather have half the meat and at least twice as much red cabbage and sauerkraut. I do not intend to return until after Covid-19 has seriously declined. Go here for the fabulous and authentic selection of German beer, go here for the live music, go here for the superb service. But don't bother if you're looking for authentic "fine" German food. Take it from someone who lived in Germany and Switzerland for a decade. Let's start with the beer selection. Absolutely awesome! You will not find this selection anywhere else in Arizona. The owners of Edelweiss hit a home run here. Larry the accordion player hits the second home run. He's a master at the squeeze box. And he's really entertaining. Our server Gregg is the 3rd home run. He was extremely professional and very efficient. Probably one of the best servers I've ever experienced in my 66 years. Edelweiss can be very proud to have him on their staff. Unfortunately the food was anything but "fine." We were a party of 4 and we all had a different schnitzel. Every schnitzel was breaded. A Jaegerschnitzel is never breaded. I had the breaded cheese as an appetizer and the breaded cordon bleu for dinner, both filled with "European" cheese. I guess I never ate at the right European places during my extensive travels throughout Europe because I never met that cheese anywhere. In my decade of eating in German and Swiss restaurants I never saw mashed potatoes on the menu or on my plate. Where was the sauerkraut? The red cabbage? The potato salad? And who puts paprika on cucumber salad? So this is why I had to give this establishment only 3 stars. Go for the beer, the beer garden, the great entertainment and the service. Eat dinner across the street at Casey Jones. You can't go wrong with that plan. In all fairness I would go back to try the selection of wurst (sausages) and give this establishment another review. This place was great! A pleasant (and cleaner) change of pace from its predecessor. There was lots of energy in this place, which we noticed immediately upon entering. Loved the German theme and the live accordion player. We started off with a pretzel, which was huge (and delicious). I had the smoked ham, my wife had the chicken cordon bleu, and my mother in-law had the cabbage rolls. We kinda all shared - and each dish was hearty and filling. Great beer selections, both in drafts and bottles. Service, though very friendly, was scattered and slow. First of all, I was born and raised in Germany. Their food is alright.. for the Schnitzel, which was the only thing good. Gave you a side of warm cucumber salad and dry Spätzle. Second it's over priced, my fiancé and I got 2 meals, 1 appetizer, and 2 beers. Total was $81. Third, we wanted to split our bill down the middle.. the following morning I checked my bank account and I was charged the full $81, while my fiancé was charged $40.. Called the restaurant the following day, and one of their employees say that happens every now and then and that they try to catch it before it happens. HOW IS THIS A THING?!?! Imagine ALL the people that don't check their accounts the following day that got over charged... so after 2 days of chasing down the Boss of this place.. they tell me that they've voided the charge and that the extra $40 should be in my account within a couple days. I wouldn't have been this upset if they would've compensated something for this HUGE inconvenience, and the funny thing is, I rarely check my mobile banking app... glad I did that morning though. So if you're interested in over paying for awful "German" bar food, and on top of that take a 50/50 chance you'll get screwed on your bill. THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. My family and I showed up at this restuarant looking forward to eating on Saturday 1/17/2020. My husband told me that it was really good. The host took me back to a table for 4 and didnt really tell me where I was sitting so I guessed it was a table by the wall. We sat down and this is where things started to get really disappointing. Multiple employees looked at my family, but no one helped us for over 20 minutes. The waiter who clearly had the section we were in helped others as they were seated and already sitting but not us. After the 20 minute timeframe the host assisted us and finally gave us water, we also ordered a pretzel which came out pretty quickly. The host grabbed waters from the bar and we ordered. The host did not come back and refill our waters and during that time one of my kids spilled a drink, which we cleaned up and someone delivering our pretzel took the whole table cloth off. We also waited a really long time for our food. We got there around 620pm and didn't get our food until after 730pm. I watched people get their food before us who sat down at 715pm. 3 of our plates were not as warm as they should have been and my food was cool and did not have flavor. I will say that the red cabbage, sauerkraut, and potatoes that my other family members ordered was so delicious, but the service was terrible. I understand businesses get busy and have bad days, but this was unacceptable considering the price point of 68.69 for cold food, disorganization, timeliness issues, and lack of customer service skills with most of the employees. read more

I would place Edelweiss in the top 3 easily. My family, which includes our two school age kids visited and were not disappointed after Yelping German food in Phoenix. This used to be our favorite restaurant. Tonight was the first time we have been there since the quarantine. Honestly, I think they have new owners. It took our waiter 15 minutes to take our food order. After 45 minutes, our appetizer came out with the entrees. My spaetzle was cold and there is no way my Schnitzel Cordon Bleu was not frozen. ( it was a perfect little rectangle, it looked like a hot pocket) When our waiter asked how everything was we told him and he could care less.
